Places to stay in Horsley
We are 3 miles from the historic village of Corbridge with its great shops, pubs and restaurants, one and a half miles from Hadrian's Wall, 20 minutes from airport and 25 minutes from Newcastle. This is a newly refurbished old stable which is a cosy hideaway in the Tyne Valley. Extensive walks are available on this working farm. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and dogs (sorry, no cats). Sadly owing to recent experiences we now need to charge £5 per dog per night.
  • Amazing apartment, really spacious and cosy. Beautiful location as well!

  • Ailsa's Cottage is a delight and exactly as it is described, a warm, cosy and very welcoming cottage. It has everything you may need plus being perfecty situated to enjoy the stunning Northumbrian countryside and local attractions. My partner, dog and I spent a wonderful couple of nights there, it was not nearly long enough! It is Ailsa's little attentions to detail that set this cottage apart from many, I cannot rate it highly enough.

  • I really don't have the words to say how beautiful this little cottage is and how much we enjoyed our stay. We spent most of our time walking and exploring around the beautiful areas or sat in front of the fire in the cottage relaxing. Lovely little touches, beautiful views, super clean and cosy and just what we needed for a break away from normal life 😁 We can't wait to come back! Thank you so much for having us and making sure we had everything we needed. Would 100 percent recommend anyone to stay here xx

  • Excellent spacious, warm and cosy accommodation. Easy to get to in a stunning area of the UK. Ailsa a great host. Corbridge is delightful and Roman Museum worth visit, exceptionally well done if you are interested in the history of the region. As is Hadrians wall. If you are National Trust Members go to Housestead to walk the Wall as you can use your Card there.

Comfortable and cosy double room with en-suite that faces out onto the garden. Our house is in a quiet cul-de-sac so you won't be troubled by traffic noise. You can park directly outside the front door. We're happy to get anything in for your breakfast and we message you before you arrive asking what you'd like so we can make a dash to the supermarket to get it. Don't worry if you don't want anything but a cuppa - that is fine. Check out is at 10am, but we're flexible.
Comfy double bed with freshly washed and pressed bedding. Extra blankets can be provided, but this house is pretty warm. Hang your clothes in the wardrobe or place in the chest of drawers. If you need an iron/ironing board please just ask. Shower in your own private en-suite. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and fresh towels are provided. A hair dryer can be provided. There's a large free standing mirror in the room. There are plenty of sockets for charging your mobile devices and you'll have access to WiFi. We'll show you around the kitchen where you are more than welcome to make hot drinks or cook a meal for yourself.
Mill Vale is a really quiet estate so you'll be able to grab some peace and quiet. We're very close to both the A1 and A69 and only a 20 minute drive to Newcaste City Centre (traffic dependent!). Newcastle Airport is only 6 miles (15 minutes) away. Newcastle Metrocentre is 4.2 miles (13 minutes) away. The Tyne Riverside Country Park is close enough for a pleasant evening stroll. There are some fantastic running/walking/cycling tracks around here. We're minutes from The Hadrians Way (Route 72). We recommend The Percy Arms, Walbottle (0.6 miles away) for a reasonably priced bite to eat. It's a 10-15 minute walk or 2 minutes in the car. They serve food from 12-3 and 5-8 Monday-Saturday Please note that on a Sunday they finish serving food at 4pm. There's also The Keelman & Big Lamp Brewery which is 1.2 miles away. A 5 minute drive or 20-25 minute walk. They do not do Sunday Lunch. Sunday-Friday 12pm-8pm, Saturday 12pm-9pm. If you like Indian food - Ma'ida Table Spread is only a 15 minute walk away. They are open Monday-Sunday from 5.30pm-11pm. Please google the places to look at their menus. I'm not able to add the web addresses.
  • Too the stress out of a very stressful moving day

    David2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Simon and Louise's place was perfectly situated for Newcastle Airport. I was able to fly in, check in earlier, and also leave on an early morning flight the next day. Simon was kind enough to offer a lift to the airport, which I graciously accepted. Both Simon and Louise were very quick to respond to any communications. They are very gracious hosts. Also, as they are both keen runners, if you are up to a 12 mile jog -- this is the place to go. The bedroom ensuite was absolutely right for my needs, very clean with everything that one would need for an overnight stay. I would definitely recommend staying at their place. Thanks so much!

    Yael2020-02-14T00:00:00Z

    Trevor2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We would highly recommend Wendy as a host and her home is very homely and welcoming. Very clean and lovely touches with fluffy soft towels and tea facilities in the rooms. All the ingredients for a spot on breakfast. Beds were very comfortable. House had all the facilities required including a hot tub which unfortunately we didn't have time to use, but was all set at 38 degrees ready to use. Very good value for money and would definately go back if we were visiting the area again.

    Caroline2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and John's house and hospitality are great. We had a brilliant holiday. The rooms are, spotless, lovely and spacious and the added touches like the offer/ability to play games and watch DVDs was also brilliant. We didn't try the hot tub but it was available to use. The kitchen is well equipped and we had space in the fridge for our packed lunch pieces. Wendy and John are both friendly and helpful, giving us ideas of places to visit as well as cups of tea. Thank you. We'd definitely recommend a stay here.

Recently renovated (August 2019), it sleeps five people comfortably in two bedrooms which can be made up as twin or double facilities. The ground floor has a newly fitted dining kitchen with all necessary amenities and a living room with an inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove. A gravel courtyard area with flower beds to the rear.
The self contained holiday cottage is well suited for couples, families and friends. A well behaved pet is welcome. It features all the amenities required for a comfortable holiday break: from wood burning stove in the living room to an outdoor barbecue in the quiet, enclosed yard to the rear. The area is ideal for walking and cycling. It provides an ideal base for a gentle, relaxed break or a family adventure exploring the history and countryside of the Tyne Valley and Northumberland.
The cottage has a front garden with seating area facing south and is situated a few metres from the graceful churchyard of St Mary the Virgin where the famous illustrator and engraver Thomas Bewick is buried. An 18th century packhorse bridge spans the Whittle Burn which runs into the Tyne a short distance down the road. Located next door to the old Ovingham village post office, Elmhurst was built in the 19th century as the postmistress’s house. To the rear of the cottage is a secluded area with seating area, firepit and barbecue. The property has been newly renovated as a holiday cottage and finished to a high standard.
  • We had a great stay at Elmhurst Cottage. We loved the setting. Everything you needed within walking distance. Well stocked shop, great local pub with great food, lovely local walks and near to train station. You can be in Newcastle in 25 mins, Hadrians Wall is also not too far. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and tidy with lovely period features and everything you needed for a great stay. We would highly recommend a stay at Elmhurst and we would definitely book again if staying in the area.

  • Such a lovely cosy cottage to stay in for a weekend away. Beautiful log burner, and small touches such as fresh flowers. Absolutely couldn't fault the cleanliness of the property, the beds smelt so amazing we didn't want to get up! Really handy having a dishwasher too, plus a smart TV to log into accounts such as Netflix and Prime.

    Harriet2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the cottage for 3 nights over New Year. Meeting Christopher with the keys was easy and we were soon unpacked and settled in. The cottage is beautifully decorated, furnished and well equipped for our stay. The place was spotless, the linen and towels of lovely quality. Locally we had a great time visiting Hadrian’s wall, Hexham and many lovely local walks. We can’t wait to return. Thank you

  • Christopher’s property is stunning. Set in a quiet village it’s so accessible to many local attractions and even only 25 minutes into Newcastle by train from the local station which is a 10 minute walk away. The house is stylish, spotless and so comfortable. The bed was amazing, so cosy and comfortable, with lovely bedding and towels too. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again.

  • I don’t want to ruin the surprise but this cottage is really so very excellent I’m going to have to! The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils and really great fridge, oven, dishwasher and washing machine so its a great place if you need to stay a little longer and don’t like washing up like me. There is a comprehensive file to help you get around the place. The living space is both roomy and cosy all at once. The pictures just don’t do it justice! I had enough room to do physio while my friend watched telly on the super comfortable sofa. There is also a cute love seat too. And if that isn’t romantic enough the wood burner really sets off the space and helps make it über cosy and atmospheric. The parking space is really convenient and right in front of the cottage. No wandering with heavy luggage! The fridge being so roomy meant I could stock up on everything for days and the only thing we needed to leave for was to buy more wood as we got through it all so quickly being so enamoured with the wood burner (haha) I used this place to study and then take breaks between to eat and chat. It is super conveniently placed for Newcastle and also I’d still use it as a base to explore Northumberland too as both are in such easy distance. I loved everything about it. Claire was so good at letting me know what to do by text and on the app. I knew if I needed help she was there. I really appreciated her thoughtful message and helpful instructions at the beginning of our stay. I look forward to coming back to work and rest again in the lovely peace and quiet.

  • This is our second trip here and will not be our last. The only downside of trip for me was that the winter weather meant I was not able to sit out and enjoy the loverly garden - hopefully next time.

    Paul2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Superb place - very comfortable and ideal location - its close enough for easy travel to Newcastle and surrounding attractions but also far enough away for peace and quiet along with easy parking etc. Liked it so much that I have already booked here again for another stay as soon as it became available again.

The renowned Northumberland coast is less than an hour away.

So not only have we thought of comfort but also of potential allergies. •The shower room has a full sized shower, with lashings of hot water and big fluffy towels, a wash basin and of course a loo! •Toiletries & loo roll provided. •Two comfy chairs and a small table allow you to relax whilst enjoying your Continental style breakfast. Tea, coffee, fresh milk and kettle provided.
We are located a short walk from the village of Wylam, a friendly village with lots of local amenities, traditional local pubs and places to eat.
  • Good value place to stay - goo access for walking Hadrian’s wall. Morag was extremely friendly - thank you.

    Janaki2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very much enjoyed staying at Morag's place, communication was great and prompt! When we first arrived we were greeted by Morag and of course the lovely Trudy (who is the most lovable dog ever!) She was pleasant and playful with our dogs too which immediately put our minds at ease. The little stable itself is comfy, warm and inviting. After a countryside walk I enjoyed a nice hot shower and got ready for our evening out which was just along the road to The Boathouse. I would recommend this gorgeous little retreat to anyone who just wants to get away from it all. We will be back!

  • Lovely cozy place, warm and and very welcoming host. Highly recommend this place.

  • You will get a very warm welcome here from Morag and her enthusiastic co-hosts Trudy (border collie) and William (ginger tom) who were delightful. The stable is very cosy in winter, and I would bet is lovely in summer too. We will return to find out!

  • Fantastic host, great location with short walks to lovely farm shops and local pubs, very friendly animals too

    Georgie2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed staying here. It was a short walk from the station and the village and therefore perfect for non-car travel and for eating out. One warning though - you might fall in love with Trudy the dog!

    Hazel2019-10-17T00:00:00Z

Big, bright, ensuite double room in a Victorian terraced house, in the pretty village of Wylam. We are 1.5 km from the Hadrian's Wall path (if going east to west), with riverside walks/bike rides from the door. It is 20 mins on a scenic train to Newcastle or Hexham and an easy drive to the coast. A kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits are provided in the room. Breakfast of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, toast and preserves is also provided (special diets catered for).
Our house is near the popular Hadrian's Wall path (1.5 km to the nearest point, for those walking east to west). We are by the lovely River Tyne, with beautiful riverside walks. It is a great area for cycling, with cycle route C72 (part of the C2C route) passing about 100 yards from our door. It is very near to George Stephenson's Cottage for those of you who are railway enthusiasts. Also only five minutes' drive or 20 minutes' walk from Close House golf club. Easy parking is available outside the house and there is space in the house to keep bikes safe. The little road is very quiet with only gardens on one side of the road. The room itself is big and bright, with two velux windows, a sofa, TV and small fridge. The bathroom is ensuite and for your personal use.
Wylam is a quiet, pretty, riverside village, with all amenities- a few shops, chemist, four pubs (three of which serve food) and two restaurants.
  • Would highly recommend this accommodation. The attic room and bathroom have everything that you would need. Judy and Neil are very friendly and hospitable. Their house is centrally located in the village, close to the shops, pubs and eateries. We shall return (assuming they'll have us back!).

    Anne2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • THe attic room is just advertised but the little touches make this B&B exceptional value for money. WE've never had a fridge in a B&B before let all one with a small bottle of prosecco inside. THe " real" coffee was also unexpected. JUdy was a really welcoming host and made us feel at home.

    Timothy2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second visit, lovely room and great breakfast.

    Will2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great Airbnb experience! Judy and Neil are very accommodating hosts who truly make you feel like you are their special guests. From little touches like cookies by the bedside, to local tips and directions (painstakingly written out), this is an ideal stay.

    Mary Lou2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely host and great accommodation, ideal if you’re walking the HWP. Room was spotless and very comfortable, breakfast was just right. Would definitely stay there again.

    Carol2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • A quiet village location, lovely home. The atic room is much larger than the photo suggests. Very helpful hospitable host. Everything perfect.

    Richard2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • I wish we could give 10 stars for Judy and Neil's hospitality. We were walking the wall and the weather was just awful. They picked us up and drove us home, dried our clothes and shoes and made sure that we were warm, had dinner, and an amazing breakfast in the morning. The only downside was that our stay at their lovely home was just too short. Everything was amazing. Thank you!

    Petra2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The room is in the attic of a nice house: very comfortable with a nice small couch and your own bathroom. From the windows you have a nice view. Judy and Neil are extremely friendly and very helpful. We had a wonderful breakfast and would highly recommend this place.

This charming, semi-detached holiday cottage is set in the ‘picture postcard’ village of Hedley on the Hill, only 15 minutes from Corbridge in the south of Hadrian’s Wall country, in a very pretty part of this friendly, unspoilt county. The views from the village across the Tyne Valley are spectacular, and the property has a rear sitting-out area to relax in. This is a charming base from which to tour the many attractions in the area, or make a holiday out of a visit for a special event, such as the Great North Run or a university graduation ceremony. Corbridge is a historic, pretty little market town with charming pubs and tea rooms, and the area is perfect for cyclists and walkers - the whole of Hadrian’s Wall can be followed on a special trail and many Roman forts can be visited along the route. Head to Newcastle with its museums and shopping, bustling Hexham or historic Durham. Sample some of the local produce in the many delis and farm shops around the area. Roam free in rolling countryside, visiting quaint villages or head to the city and see the Angel of the North, or visit BALTIC and other museums in Newcastle. Don’t miss the Heritage coast, less than an hour away, by heading north and sampling the many castles and miles of golden sandy beaches. An ideal location from which to explore this wonderful county from inland to the coast. Hedley on the Hill, near Stocksfield, United Kingdom

Ensuite bedroom plus private, unique living room space overlooking garden and woodland. Less than 5 minute walk from Stocksfield train station and bus routes between Newcastle and Hexham and around a mile from National Cycle Route 72, Hadrian's Cycleway. Handy base for exploring Roman sites of Corbridge and further west along Hadrian's Wall. Off road parking and secure bike storage available. Guests have their own side door. Access to the Rowan Suite via staircase to the first floor.
The price includes a continental breakfast hamper with granola, croissants, fruit and yogurts. And please note, I don't add on a cleaning charge, so the final price is my nightly price plus the AirBnb Service charge only. The Rowan Suite is the upstairs of a recent extension. It is reached by a separate staircase from that in the main house, so there is an instant feeling of privacy. The staircase opens into a lovely lounge, full of light and with a cosy woodburner for cooler days. The bedroom, with its ensuite shower room, is through a door from the living room. The view, which many guests comment on, is over woodland and gardens, and is very tranquil and green. It gives a timeless sense of being right in the countryside, yet you are only a 5 minute walk from Stocksfield railway station. The living room for guests has a bi-fold door and Juliette balcony , and when fully open the whole room becomes almost an outdoor space. Lovely for lazing in the sun or watching the night sky! The house is also home to a dog and 2 cats. There is a small sofa bed in the living room area which could be used for an additional guests - by prior arrangement only. It functions as a low single bed - or it can be split to create a double floor mattress or 2 single ones. It is in the living room area which does not have curtains so will get light as the day dawns. It is visible in the photos of the room. You must contact me in advance to discuss details if you would like to include additional people and there is an additional charge of £10 per person.
My house is on a very ordinary street - but the interior space is very special. The back overlooks woodland which is tranquil and accessible - and there are local walks through more woods and along a local burn. One of my guests recently uploaded a video of the view from the lounge's Juliette balcony - it's on You Tube as 'Rowan Suite New Ridley'. Nearby, Prudhoe (c 3 miles) has several restaurants and take-aways - Indian, Italian, Chinese and fish and chip and the Wellington pub in Riding Mill (2 miles and accessible by train and bus) serves food. Excitingly, The Blue Bell Inn, Mickley just outside Stocksfield has just re-opened (August 2019) and should be serving food - check facebook for details. Also nearby is the acclaimed Feathers Inn at Hedley on the Hill which has an award-winning menu. Pre-booking is essential there. Local market towns of Corbridge and Hexham both have an excellent selection of pubs, coffee houses and restaurants and plenty of independent shops. Stocksfield makes a good base for days out to explore sections of Hadrian's Wall, The Sill Landscape Centre, Beamish Museum, English Heritage or National Trust properties such as Belsay Hall, Wallington Hall and Gibside - as well as heading into Newcastle. There are a number of local artists and crafts people offering workshops and courses in the area - The Rowan Suite is perfect accommodation while you learn a new skill. The Suite is also ideal if you're attending a wedding or other event in the area. With it's separate staircase, once you have checked in, it doesn't matter how late you arrive back again, you won't need to worry too much about disturbing the household. It's only 4 .5 miles to Healey Barn and 8.5 miles to Vallum Farm - both award winning local wedding venues, so you can always get a taxi and leave your car. I'm happy to consider early check-ins for you to change/leave luggage, car etc if you're attending an afternoon ceremony. Just ask! (And don't overlook proximity to train and bus routes- you don't even need a car to get here)
  • This place was ideal for our purpose and we had a lovely relaxed time staying at Chris's place. She's a lovely host and we really enjoyed our breakfast hamper in the morning.

The breakfast hamper was a basket of lovely surprises with juice, yogurts, granola, fruit, delicious hot croissants and divine homemade lemon curd. Chris is a wonderful host and when we arrived had lit the wood burning stove in the private living room, which she did again in the morning before breakfast. An excellent spot to explore Northumberland and the Hadrian's Wall area, highly recommended, we will definitely go back.

  • Colin and Penny's place couldn't have been located better for us, as we were cycling Hadrian's Cycleway and only needed to detour a little off the route to reach it. Their house is absolutely beautiful (especially the bathroom - I enjoyed a nice soak in their roll top bath), and their hospitality was outstanding. Colin even helped me with some bike maintenance and tips. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay with Colin and Penny.

We offer a stay in a vintage style shepherd hut for luxurious glamping within a stone’s throw of Hadrian’s wall. Relax in a secluded rural location, let the calm return and recall a gentler age with long hot summer days and carefree innocence, or cosy up alongside the woodburning stove and unwind. The hut has a wood burning stove with oven, and a separate hot plate to prepare delicious meals.
The shepherd hut is vintage in style and offers a unique holiday experience. Although traditional and retro in feel the hut offers all modern conveniences. It is the most warm romantic space. We can provide breakfast baskets and one pot meals making the hut an ideal place for walkers.
The hut is situated in a secluded rural location in open countryside.

Cottage anex with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Open plan downstairs area with dining table, kitchen, sofa and TV. Near Hadrian wall and world class golf course Close House. Twenty minutes drive from City Centre
Cottage out in the countryside, with plenty walking routes and nature in all directions. Close to the river Tyne down the hill to Wylam village. Heddon on the Wall also a 20 minute walk away. Large open living area with bedrooms and bathroom up stairs, and large garden and driveway.
The house can be a little trickly to find, as a little hidden from the road. We can provide extra detailed instructions to the property which will avoid any confusion on the road!
  • The cottage is more spacious than expected, spotless, with good outdoor space and friendly, inquisitive sheep in the field next door. It is ideally situated for accessing Newcastle (10 miles away) and Hadrian's wall. We were greeted by friendly hosts, and a kitchen with fresh milk, bread, biscuits, coffee, tea, jams, butter, wine and lager! We only stayed for three days, but from such a convenient base were able to adequately tire out an eight year old girl with trips to the theatre, the Life Centre, ice-skating, and a fabulous 3 mile walk (from Steel Rigg Car park) around breathtaking sections of Hadrian's wall. None of the above had been effectively organised in advance, but were easily sorted out from the cottage. It proved ideal for the three of us, and could easily have accommodated another due to the huge living area.

  • Everything about our last minute stay in Sylvia’s brilliant little cottage was perfect from start to finish. The directions were very clear, and the check in via the lock box was really simple and easy. The space itself is really homely and cozy and has all the facilities we needed for the weekend. Devra responded to messages extremely quickly to answer any questions we had. The cottage is located in a great place, just off the A69, it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere in the peaceful countryside but is on main routes and just 20 minutes from Newcastle. Thank you very much.

  • From the moment we arrived to Lynn’s beautiful home and property, we felt welcomed and cared for with all the special touches, lovely gardens and attention to our needs. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated in the period decor and bright. We were able to chose a convenient time for breakfast, which was delicious and served in another lovely room on the 1st floor. Lynn gave us her time to direct our train ride into Newcastle as well as driving in to revisit a part of the city once lived in years ago. We would love to stay here again, but for longer as the entire surrounding area is beautiful as well. Thank you Lynn.

  • This place is amazing!! We went to visit family and attend a wedding and decided to stay for a few days. Debbie was an amazing host, she met with us on arrival, showed us in and chatted to us about the local area. She told us where to walk the dog and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring these walks. The house itself was beautiful, exceptionally clean, with lots of extra touches such as tea, coffee, sugar, milk, toilet rolls and toiletries available in case we had forgotten anything. Beds were all super comfortable with good quality bedding. During our stay Debbie was available via text or phone call for anything we needed. This is a fantastic base for exploring the many local attractions or for taking it easy and enjoying the beautiful scenery. We will definately be returning again soon, so happy we have found such a lovey place to stay that is so close to our family.

  • Fantastic place to stay. Debbie was super helpful and the property was great - ideal for our stay for a family wedding. The house was clean, with plenty of space for 6 people and a lovely garden. We even had biscuits and tea/coffee left for us which was great. The town of Wylam is really lovely, with good places to eat within walking distance from the house. Would definitely stay here again if we visit in the future.

  • Omg amazing hospitality, location... The personal touches in the house made it feel like a home from home we had an amazing time. Fantastic and friendly hosts who made sure we had everything we needed every step of the way and we can't wait to visit again. Thank you so much ❤️

    Amanda2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We have recently had a 6 day stay at Twin Pines. Debbie was very helpful every step of the process and provided very quick responses to my many questions. The house had everything we needed and the village of Wylam is ideal. The area around the house was so quiet all the time we were there. We made use of all the pubs which are all different in their own ways. Our favourites were the Boathouse and The Ship. The small COOP had everything we needed for our stay and the pizza place in town did excellent pizzas (we had them as takeaway as the place was always filled booked). The station is a 5 minute walk from the house and has regular trains to Newcastle city (as well as other places). Wylam was well placed to get to Hadrians Wall and Beamish Living museum all approx 20 min drive. Cannot wait to return and spend longer exploring the local area. Thanks Debbie

This is a very spacious en-suite first floor guest bedroom in our 280 year old Queen Anne family mansion house, set in 7 acres of manicured gardens looking out towards the river Tyne. The house is furnished throughout with many antiques and collectables so care is expected. The estate is walking distance to several good pubs and restaurants and a supermarket, and close to transport routes. We have a friendly, elderly cat. Plenty of secure private parking on the driveway.
This is a large bedroom furnished in the English Country House style, with a very comfortable bed and antique wooden furniture, and even an old 70's style analogue tv with a digibox. It looks out over the North lawn of the 7 acre grounds that surround the house, down towards the river, and if you have the window open you can sometimes hear sheep bleeting in the fields or the local rowing club marshalling their teams on the river. The bedroom has an en-suite toilet and basin, and just across the landing is your further private bathroom with bathtub and shower. There are endless possibilities for lovely walks around here, with paths that take you down through the woods to the riverbank and our former lakes. The house originally had 350 acres of grounds, but now most of those are looked after as a nature reserve. It is still not unusual to see deer grazing on the lawns, and foxes and badgers also appear in the twilight. The walks also take you past several delightful pubs, so you can break up the journey with a refreshment stop. In the village we have 2 great pubs that both serve food, and also Indian and Italian restaurants and a big co-op supermarket, so everything is within easy reach. We are 9 miles out of Newcastle and less than 2 miles from the MetroCentre, so every kind of retail pleasure is closeby. The bright lights and night life of Newcastle are just a 25 minute bus ride or a 15 minute drive away (about £12 in a taxi at the time of writing 2019), so we are also handy for the Arena, the Sage, St.James's Park and the GNR, and just 3 miles from Newcastle Business Park and Team Valley. It's the closest place to feel like you are 'in the country' but still be on the edge of town. We are avid collectors of all sorts, mostly vintage and retro items rather than precious antiques, and also have a collection of classic cars, so fellow collectors are most welcome.
We are situated within easy reach of the coast and some lovely beaches, less than a hour's drive to both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District, a short drive from Hadrian's Wall and Keilder Water, and an easy daytrip to the Scottish borders. We are on the edge of Newcastle and Sunderland, Durham and Hexham are all about 25 minute's drive.
  • Spacious and comfortable room in a lovely home. Help yourself breakfast and a friendly relaxed host. Weather conditions meant I was unable to look around the extensive grounds - will have to wait until next time!

  • This was a great little cottage - 2 big bedrooms and a dining room with a sofa bed. The kitchen was small and didn’t have an oven but perfect for our needs. Adrienne very helpfully has left us everything we needed for breakfast. It was very clean and Adrienne was very responsive for all our questions. We would definitely stay again.

  • Adrienne’s home is super clean and very comfortable, perfect for two couples or a family group. The property is very rural, you can see horses in the fields outside, although you can easily get to Newcastle by car. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property to people who enjoy walking but who also want to visit the brilliant city of Newcastle.

  • Fantastic find. Loved staying here. Excellent location. Great tips from the host in the local area, which pubs were dog friendly etc. Recommending this place to friends already.

  • What a beautiful escape to the countryside! Lynne is the most amazing host, she was warm and welcoming! Breakfast was lovely with a great selection of fruit, cereals and toast. Very good coffee too! A great base to explore the area with Hexam and Corbridge for shopping really close by. I had two dogs with me so Lynne's utility/boot room came in handy to keep the dogs in there after their morning walk and the walk was literally from the front door. The house is gorgeous and the rooms are big, bright and tastefully decorated. I can't recommend highly enough! Thank you from me, Hugo and Hector (the labradors!)

  • Lynne and her family made us feel very welcome. We had a beautifully decorated room with two windows overlooking the surrounding countryside. To be able to close the traditional wooden shutters at night was an unexpected delight. Breakfast was lovely, served in a room full of interesting items to look at. We would love to return next time we visit relatives.
