Places to stay in Holcombe Rogus

Places to stay in Holcombe Rogus
A rustic stargazer where you can fall asleep watching the stars and wake up to the sound of birdsong! A rural spot, far from street lighting, the sky lights up on clear nights. Simple, basic, but unusual accommodation. This is a wooden A-frame structure with enough room for two to sleep in with a mainly glass roof.
Where else can you stay in a stargazer?! Our large Devon stone house in a quiet valley on the edge of the pretty village of Holcombe Rogus, surrounded by countryside. The house is half a mile from the village, which has a small shop, a garage and a pub. The Prince of Wales pub does pub food as does the Staple Cross Inn which is about 3 miles away. (food not available every day) Both Dartmoor and Exmoor, and the north and south Devon coasts, are about an hour away, and there are plenty of pretty walks close by, including the Great Western Canal. The cathedral city of Exeter is 40 minutes away, and the market town of Taunton 30 minutes. Nearby Wellington and Tiverton have a range of shops and supermarkets. There is quick and easy access to the M5 at both junctions 26 and 27, and is a 15 minute drive from Tiverton Parkway Train station. We also have available a single room. Please see separate listing.
  • Neat star gazing opportunity in a warm and relaxing way. Lovely quiet place.

  • Simply amazing with lovely hospitality. Couldn’t have found a better place to stay surrounded by beautiful nature. Thank you again Tess and Richard!!!

    Charlotte2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • COSY, FUN AND QUIRKY! My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our night in the little stargazing hut! Tess and Richard were kind and friendly hosts, and made us feel very welcome. We had the use of a private bathroom during our stay, with a lovely hot and powerful shower, and the conservatory to keep our bags in. Tess and Richard very kindly allowed us to bring our Thermomix, so we spent the Saturday evening sharing their kitchen, as we cooked a Mushroom Risotto, and enjoying a chat with them. So much nicer than going to a restaurant! In view of our dietary preferences, we used our Thermomix on the Sunday morning, too, to make a green juice and smoothie. Richard also made us a loaf of homemade malted bread, which was lovely. Cereals and preserves were also on offer. The stargazing hut itself was very cosy, and there were plenty of duvets to keep us warm. A fun way to sleep under the stars, and a very enjoyable experience all round!

  • We loved our stay with Tess and Richard who were wonderful hosts and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The hut was great and we could see so many stars and ended up downloading a stargazing app so we could tell where the constellations were, just beware of a few small friends if you’re frightened of bugs/spiders but they kept to themselves. Would highly recommend for a few night to just chill out and spend some quality time away from busy day-to-day life.

  • Tess and Richard were very welcoming and relaxed. The star gazer was very cosy and a lovely space to stay. I would thoroughly recommend a night there!

    Lydia2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Tess's and Richard's place as well as their warm hospitality.

    David2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly what it said- lovely star gazing hut with cozy vibe. Intentionally basic to not distract from nature & starry nights. We had a lovely weekend

    Luis2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Tess & Richard are fabulous hosts, really helpful with tips on where to eat etc during our stay. The hut is lovely and cosy - plenty warm enough with the extra duvets we were given. Lovely breakfast too, and really useful to have use of the conservatory for storing belongings, and enjoying the evenings. Overall a fab trip, and was really happy to meet such lovely hosts!

  • A real rural retreat, large barn suitable for anything really. Excellent all round.

    Dan2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Was a lovely space, large dining table in a high topped ceilinged room. Lots of sleeping space, nice and quite surroundings. Highly recommend Just be careful on the track down to the barns, if your car is slightly lower like mine you may knock the underside of the car.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at the barn. I was looking for somewhere to stay and do some work free from distractions and this was perfect. Ali had started a fire before I got there so the barn felt very cosy from the moment I arrived. Kitchen has everything you need to make a proper meal, and the hot shower was great. I was a little worried about coming down the 'steep and bumpy' driveway but in the end it was no problem for me in my little hatchback! Thank you Ali for a lovely stay.

    Cecilia2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and amazing little barn. This was a great place, off grid, perfect for writing. I really enjoyed animals around and the log burner. I highly recommend the place.

The cottage has a lovely feel, with wood burner and Aga. Rural, but easy access from the M5, and parking for two cars. Fabulous place to use as a base for good walking & exploring the South West. A car is necessary & a desire to be off the beaten track, although good food & beers a 10-15 min walk to the village. Large rooms, comfortable furnishings, quality linens. Fully self contained with central heating and everything that you would need to make an enjoyable break.
A quiet cottage attached to Walders Court, a grade II listed property dating from the 1600's. Used as the setting for the novelist R.D. Blackmore's novel, Perlycross, he being more famous as the author of Loorna Doone. Private and tucked away with your own entrance. Ideal for those needing a stopover, easy access from M5, J26 or J27, or those seeking a base to explore. Excellent walking, and a short 45-60 minute drive to Exmoor and Dartmoor. Entrance is via a flag path that leads from the parking area to the front stable door of the Cottage. The front door leads directly into the kitchen/dining area. This is a spacious room, equiped with an Aga for cooking and warmth, (separate heating system on thermostat to ensure the cottage stays warm) dishwasher, and washing machine, plenty of cupboard storage and a small fridge freezer. A kitchen table, large enough to seat six completes the area. An open staircase leads from the kitchen to the upstairs bedroom. The bedroom overlooks the entrance courtyard and the entrance gate. Furnished simply, with a 5' bed, comfortable mattress & quality linens. En-suite bathroom, with bath, washbasin and toilet. Returning to the kitchen. From the kitchen, three shallow steps lead you into a small open plan cloakroom area, with storage for coats and shoes. Access to the ground floor shower room and toilet is located here. The cloakroom leads to the living area. The living area is a light and airy space, with a small woodburning stove. It is furnished with a two seater settee, and a two seater pull out bed settee. Television and wifi access available in the living area. Please note - we are a rural community with slow broadband speeds. If you wish to stream movies, the broadband often fails. It is reliable for emails and other applications that need less speed. Outside, access from the front door is the small side garden. This is for your sole use while you are at the cottage. The garden is surrounded by a shrub hedge, beyond which is a country lane. As the season progresses the garden becomes more private and secluded as the shrubs become leafy. During the winter the garden is more exposed due to the nature of this hedge. BBQ and fire pit available for your use. Points to note. The ground floor living room can be easily used as a bedroom, with the shower room close by. The lounge opens from the cloakroom area, and although there are no doors, because of the dogleg style, there is privacy if it is to be used as a sleeping area. The main bedroom is accessed from the open plan stairs that lead from the kitchen, so any noise from the kitchen will be easily heard from the bedroom. Some windows, overlook the courtyard of the main house. These will not affect the privacy of the Cottage, as you cannot see into the Cottage from the courtyard. Finally, for those very tall, (over 6ft) the shower is fairly compact due to restricted ceiling height - feedback from guests are that the shower area is more than adequate for tall persons!
We live at the foot of the Blackdown Hills in Devon. We sit underneath The Beacon, a short 10-15 minute hike up the hill to a fabulous 400 year old ancient monument used to call all good men and true, to arms, to ward off the Spanish invasion. The Blackdowns are one of the Westcountry's hidden gems, forming a tranquil, beautiful, and relatively isolated landscape on the Devon and Somerset border. Steep ridges, high plateau, valleys and springs create a charming mosaic of countryside dotted with farms, villages and ancient features. We are a 15-20 minute walk from our local village, where you can find The Culm Valley Inn, renowned for it's locally sourced food, real ales and lively atmosphere, a true village pub. Crossing the ancient packhorse bridge will bring you along to the Strand Stores, great for a good cup of tea and slice of cake, all home made, with lots of goodies to take away. We are equal distance between the North and South Devon Coastline. An hours journey can take you to the delights of these shores, into the moors of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Slightly further afield is the Eden project, but very accessible as a day trip. If you are a National Trust member, we have several properties on our doorstep for you to explore. Full details of what you can find are in our 'Welcome Pack & Information' on arrival

  • A great place for a peaceful and relaxing weekend break. This is a lovely cottage - very welcoming and comfortable - in a good location. Rosie was very accommodating and friendly.

    Jacki2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Rosie's cottage - it's the perfect mix of being off the beaten track but also with good amenities nearby (pub and shop/deli within walking distance, as well as other pubs, shops and points of interest a drive away). We visited Exmouth which is a 30 minute drive away, and would recommend a walk up to Culmstock beacon and also to the Tarr Steps in Exmoor. The cottage was cosy, clean and kitchen well equipped. Thanks Rosie!

There is TV, movies, music, games and books for enjoyable relaxation. The kitchen is well equipped for enthusiastic cooks with supplies of our own apple juice and cider. A local farm shop ( with cafe ) is a source of good local produce. There is garden space just for the cottage for relaxing, alfresco eating and drinking but visitors are welcome explore our large garden ( a work in progress ! ) There are great pubs in local villages which can also provide excellent beer and food.
Explore the moors, coasts, history, and gardens of Devon, starting with a walk along the nearby Great Western Canal. The area is rural with surrounding farmland, and a village with a pub, plus well-stocked farm shop and cafe, is about 1.5 miles away. The small market town of Tiverton is about 4 miles away with a twice weekly market, local museum, varied shops and supermarkets.
  • Our stay at Annie’s was short but sweet. The space was clean and stylish, with a cozy log burner and luxurious bathtub, big well stocked kitchen and just an all around well designed space. The bed was incredible, we slept so well! There were so many goodies and thoughtful touches too... fresh flowers, apple juice, etc. Her gardens are beautiful even this time of year and it was lovely to stroll through and birdwatch. Annie is generous and kind and really took the time to make us welcome; her and I had a nice long chat one rainy morning about her work and the property and their apple processing... it was lovely. Would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend!

    Laura2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, lovely personal touches and really nice space to relax in. Private, clean and all the amenities you need. We brought our own logs for the fire, but no need as they have lots and it was perfect for the chilly evenings! We especially enjoyed the Canal walks and a pint at The Globe pub after 😊 thanks for the homemade apple juice and nibbles Annie 💖

However, in these extraordinary times we felt it might be reassuring to understand what extra measures we are taking to avoid any potential contamination, however unlikely. Check in: We are now operating a remote check-in policy to reduce physical contact. We will phone you on arrival to check you have settled in and briefly run through a verbal meet and greet. We will email instructional video clips to help explain the property in more detail. Unfortunately early check in or late check out will be suspended for the time being as we need all available time to carry out the additional cleaning. Keys should be left in the door and will also be throughly cleaned. Cleaning: We have always felt a little uncomfortable leaving any of the cleaning to anyone else so carry our all cleaning ourselves (and have done for some time) this gives us the peace of mind that no corners have been cut and the high standards are maintained all times. All laundry is also done in house using anti bacterial additive. The idea being the fewer people involved the lower the risk. For extra security all cleaning is now carried out while wearing rubber gloves and a surgical mask just incase we are carrying the virus and are not yet showing any symptoms. Between every guest we: Fully deep clean the property. Anti bacterial or bleach products used on all cleanable surfaces with extra care taken with all handles, cupboard doors, taps, switches and tv controls etc. All floors cleaned and treated with anti bacterial products. Throws and cushion cases washed. Cushions, sofa and rugs sprayed with anti bacterial solution. Pillows, duvet and mattress sprayed with anti bacterial solution. Hot tub: All exterior surfaces cleaned with anti bacterial solution. Filters changed Non chorine shock added Slow release bromine tablets added Advice from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) on any transmission through pools and hot tubs is as follows: “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” Please note: (Especially returning guests) We have had to drastically reduce the amount of complimentary items we traditionally have provided. All condiments, oils, tea and coffee have now been removed for obvious reasons. We will still limited qualities of dish washer tablets, washing up liquid, toilet rolls and hand wash or soap. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need further information, we are more than happy to discuss anything in greater detail as required.
Set conveniently between north and south coasts and two national parks (Exmoor and Dartmoor) it is an ideal jumping off point for daily adventures. If staying local there are many walks and local pubs to explore. Roberta2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time at Eden Lodge! First came a warm welcome, first by by message - with lots of hints and tips, as well as directions that reassuringly matched up to the sat-nav; and then in person, to show us around. We arranged for a guest last minute for our first night and our hosts were very accomodating. After that we had the place, and the countryside to ourselves. First night we got some Devon cider in us and spent far too long in the hot tub. Once it was down to the two of us we cracked open our welcome message and plotted a course for the canal path, and on the one day of sunshine we had a picturesque stroll to make it to Sampford Pev, get refreshments at the Globe, before heading back before dark. We also stopped at the Prince of Wales on the way back, but were a little disappointed to find they had the kitchen closed for some time. Nice place though and got to meet some very cute doggos. Returning to the lodge we soaked our tired feet and legs and got the fire going for an amazing night's sleep. The rest of the trip was miserable weather so we either cwtched in the warmth of the stove with a book and some Netflix, or warmed up in the tub whilst watching the birds brave the weather to get to the feeders. One of the most relaxing, wholesome holidays ever.

    Adam2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely accommodation in such a peaceful setting. The hosts have gone to great extent to make the lodge as tranquil and secluded as possible, not overlooked at all. Dog friendly with a secure garden, log burner and good heating so still warm and toasty in January. Hot tub has great views and we enjoyed a spot of star gazing. Would certainly recommend and would love to return in the future.

  • Loved our stay at Eden lodge. We stayed over Christmas and was the perfect get away. Lodge looks exactly as pictured and was lovely and clean. We were met by Corinne on check in who showed us around and even bought us some yule log and mince pies which was a lovely touch (and was very yummy). The dog loved the garden which is large but secure so we didn't need to worry about her getting out (shes a Springer spaniel so is a good at these sorts of things) she loved roaming the garden while we lounged in the hot tub. Couldnt have asked for a nicer space to spend Christmas. Hosts are lovely, we didn't want to bother them too much but when we did they were great. Already thinking of returning in the summer!

Home Farm is a great rural retreat in a village setting whilst remaining accessible for many amenities in both Devon and Somerset.
Ours is an ideal location for a countryside stay or to break the journey when heading west!
  • A second visit within four weeks speaks for itself. The comfort, the space, the breakfast and the welcome, absolutely brilliant.

  • A warm welcome and comfortable beds awaited us. The spacious bathroom and sitting room were lovely and the log burner was a highlight; perfect for the winter evenings. The village was lovely and it's a good area for exploring some stunning countryside.

  • Superb stay in Holcombe Rogus. Carol and Pete were so welcoming, kind and helpful. Really lovely to be able to relax in the lounge too. Shame we were only staying one night.

    Emma2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Carol and Peter made us very welcome , the tea and cake was delicious! Extremely comfortable stay with great facilities including lounge and dining room for breakfast. Peter was kind enough to book us in to the Staple Cross pub which is highly recommended! Lovely village with an interesting church to look round if you wish.

    Avril2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t care how long you look, you will not find a couple so accommodating, friendly, thoughtful and genuine as Carol and Pete. They have such warmth and a generosity with their time and consideration for their guests. The house is just beautiful, the bedroom, bathroom, lounge and dining room have everything you could wish for. The location is just stunning. The perfect retreat to come ‘home’ to after a day out and there is so much of interest within a reasonable distance in any direction, starting with the immediate vicinity where there are many enjoyable walks to be had. The first of which has to be a visit to the Church to witness the master craftsmanship on display in the form of carpentry and wood carving by the hand of Carol’s ancestor (Great Grandfather, I believe?). There is nothing in their control that I would change in the provision and attention to detail that we experienced during our wonderful time with Carol and Pete. I hesitate to recommend this as the ideal destination for any of you reading this, not because it does not deserve my full endorsement, but because you might book the very same days that I would like at some point in the future and that would leave me very disappointed indeed!!

  • Such a friendly family :) Home Farm is lovely and you’ll have a wonderful and comfortable stay x

  • Carol is a great host and went out of her way to make us feel really welcome. The accommodation is spacious with good size bedroom and large bathroom. It was lovely to be able to use the large sitting room too. Excellent location for those wanting to be in easy reach of the M5 motorway at Tiverton. Quiet location within a pretty village.

    Jennie2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Carole and Pete are wonderful and hospitable hosts. They took the time to talk to us and settle in better. Their house is a beautifully renovated farmhouse and we had at our disposal a private room with a double bed, a bathroom, a sitting and dining area and an outdoor terrace. The house is in a charming country corner easily accessible.

This cosy, spacious apartment forms part of The Old Butchers - a large property home to an arts and crafts studio. We are located in the heart of Uffculme, a pretty village with two pubs, a café, fish and chips bar and two local shops. The area is great for dog walking, hiking, fishing and cycling with the river Culm close by. Uffculme is close to junction 27 and mid distance between Exeter and Taunton with a nearby rail link at Tiverton Parkway.
The flat at The Old Butchers is a self-contained annexe with an entrance via the craft studio at the front of the property. Don’t feel shy about looking around the studio! You’re welcome to use the extra space for colouring or other crafty pastimes!
Our village has a square with a cafe and a Co-op where everyone parks! The centre features little cottages that meander through narrow roads, past a medieval church and down to the river Culm. An old working wool museum named Coldharbour Mill is just a short walk from the property down an old mineral line.
  • A lovely flat in a cozy little village. Super charming and amazing value for money! Perfect if you want a little weekend break with some beautiful walks nearby - highly recommend!

    Marnie2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is a beautiful well thought out space cosy and comforting, as in the way it's furnished. It is a good size and has everything you need for a nice relaxing stay. Lisa kindly supplied some food basics which is a very thoughtful and much appreciated touch. Lisa is a fantastic host very friendly and welcoming and its such a treat to be able to look at all the lovely art work as you pass through the studio. I'd highly recommend this place for a little get away or if you are needing to stop by the area. Local shop just a minute walk, cafe and chip shop also pub. So a great little location. I hope to be back again one day soon.

We went for dinner the first night at the Ashill inn and it was delicious food, would definitely recommend. • Lisa’s place is utterly charming. A gem, Sparklingly clean. Stylish eclectic and vintage decorative pieces, all combine to create cosy space with everything you need for a comfy stay. We stayed one night and it was absolutely perfect. Delicious sup at nearby Ashill Inn - smoked haddock scotch egg with curried mayonnaise so yummy. So lovely to have milk in fridge teabags and breakfast things Thankyou Lisa

  • I came on my own and it was a great place to get away. Great amenities and space. The accommodation is based on a farm which has some nice walks starting on the grounds through woods, lanes and other natural spots. You are also near Haddon Hill and Wimbleball lake which are great to visit. Ali was excellent with great communication and happy to help me with any questions. I would definitely reccomend staying here.

  • What a wonderful place to stay, as you drive down a small bumpy farm lane you come into a place where time stands still. No wifi, no mobile phone reach. You hear the birds singing and the farm animals, but most of all quiet. Very good value and plenty of comfort, with woodburner, fresh flowers, a fully equiped kitchen, completely selfsufficient and the whole barn for yourself. Would definitely come back!

    Lies2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The converted barn was really great and Ali was very helpful and accommodating.

    Sascha2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great getaway from busy lifestyle. Wood fire, space, cosiness and nature. Ali and Sam are very welcoming. I recommend the place.

    Emma2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot for exploring the surrounding area or for finding quiet solitude. Ali made me feel welcome, checked in on me, and also gave space. She's an awesome host and a caring person. There are excellent walks right out of the door and the countryside is just beautiful. It's definitely best to have a car for exploring, but Ali was awesome about helping me get to and from Wiveliscombe for supplies during my time at the cart shed. The kitchen was well set up for cooking, the living space was warm from the radiators even without the log burner, and the shower was piping hot.

  • We had a 4 night break here, with 5 boys (aged 8 -12) it was beautiful house, with stunning views. Despite storm Dennis, we enjoyed the hot tub every day. There are so many outdoor and indoor activities that the boys were fully entertained and we had little need to go anywhere else. The kitchen is beautifully equipped, wanting for nothing during the stay. Highly recommend holiday. The icing on the cake was a beautifully made Victoria sponge on arrival 😀 thank you Cath

10 minutes from the M5 and an easy drive to both North and South Devon coasts (30-45 mins) The Shed is a set in a secluded part of our garden with beautiful views across the fields and a view of the Culmstock Beacon. It is separate from the house with an en suite shower and toilet, a small kitchen area with fridge-freezer and a patio for your exclusive use. It has underfloor heating. Perfect for couples but a double pull out bed can be provided for children. It has TV and WIFi.
The Shed is a new build that offers peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. Tea and coffee are provided along with basic cooking equipment. Breakfast is not provided but, at your request, we can supply basics such as fresh bread, marmalade, butter and locally sourced eggs for your arrival. If you don’t feel like getting your own breakfast there is an excellent café/deli 3 minutes walk away that does a very satisfying breakfast. Also excellent for lunch! The local riverside pub is a short 5 minutes’ walk through the village and serves very good food both at lunch time and in the evenings. There are plenty of great walks, or just simple strolls along the river. For cyclists, this is an idyllic location. For example, Beer, on the Jurassic Coast is a 50 mile round trip – also Exmoor and Dartmoor are on the radar for enthusiastic cyclists. There are many shorter round trips to be enjoyed for those who do not want to go so far. Both my husband and I are keen cyclists and would be able to give help and advice on the best local rides. BIkes can be securely housed during your stay. Or simply come and relax, breath in the Devon air and enjoy the peace and quiet of the gorgeous countryside.
  • Moyra was so patience with our later than expected arrival. It was so lovely to be greeted by her and her friendly dog at that time. The shed is so welcoming and comfy we felt right at home as soon as we walked in. Well kitted out kitchen, lovely hot water and really helpful leaflets etc to hand. We had a super meal at The Culm Valley Inn which is a 5-minute walk and spent a day at Longdog Smithys learning how to forge steel - a super few days and will be back, thank you so much.

  • I highly recommend this room in a pretty Devon cottage not far from Tiverton parkway station. Lovely bathroom too. Caroline is very welcoming and the room is set out beautifully. It's a lovely cottage with a great garden. In case you're wondering, it does have WiFi as well. Halberton is also a very sweet little village; 250 yards from the cottage is nice pub that also serves good food and has friendly staff. To conclude, I couldn't recommend this airbandb highly enough. Go for it!

  • Lovely quiet place to stay, room was great, amazing value, wonderful host. Can’t fault it!

    Grace2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is a warm and elegant person, living in her home is very free and comfortable, just like in her own home, the bed is clean and comfortable, the bathroom is next to the room, the kitchen is large, and you can use it casually. Because I was rushing to London for a train, Caroline deliberately drove me to solve my big problem, thank her very much.

Luxury self-contained shepherd's hut on the Somerset/Devon border. Situated in the peaceful rural countryside with beautiful views across the rolling hills. Our spacious hut is set in it's own secluded garden space with patio area and firepit. Ideally placed for visiting the Quantocks, Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills, it is also close to a good range of shops in the nearby market town of Wiveliscombe.
Our hut is brand new for 2020 and contains all you need for a relaxing stay. It has an en-suite shower and toilet with all toiletries and luxury Egyptian cotton towels provided. The kitchen area is well equipped with pots and pans as well as including a double induction hob, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. A welcome pack including tea, fresh and instant coffee, sugar, milk, butter, bread and eggs from our own chickens will be provided. The double bed has a super comfy mattress with plenty of extra legroom. Sitting in bed provides panoramic views over the countryside. The living space contains tables and stools and a small sofa as well as an electric stove for those cooler evenings. A selection of games and books are provided. Outside the hut is a bistro table and chairs and a firepit for al-fresco dining. Parking is beside the hut and you have your own private access to and from Shepherd's View with a keysafe for your convenience. The area is full of wildlife. We have counted over 45 different species of birds in and around the garden. The adjoining field is often visited by roe deer. The dark night sky allows superb star-gazing opportunities.
Our shepherd's hut is surrounded by open countryside with many walks available. It has uninterrupted views across the neighbouring fields and over to the rolling hills of Somerset and Devon. It is a beautiful and quiet part of West Somerset. The River Tone with the West Deane Way alongside are just a few minutes walk away. The Quantocks, Exmoor and The Blackdown Hills are all just a short drive from the property. Walking books and maps are available in the hut for those wanting to take advantage of the outdoors. A number of National Trust properties are within easy reach. For garden lovers there are a number of properties worth visiting including Cothay Manor, Hestercombe House and Gardens and RHS Rosemoor (about 50 minutes away). The Rock Inn is a highly regarded gastropub and is just 3/4 mile away (15 minutes to walk). Winter closing is Sunday evening and all Monday and Tuesday. Wiveliscombe is a lovely little market town and well worth visiting. It still contains a good range of shops, 2 pubs, 2 breweries (with on-site shops), a fish 'n' chips shop, an Indian and Chinese take-away. Visit the Courthouse for morning coffee and homemade cake or a delightful fresh lunch. Sheppy's Cider farm shop and museum is just 25 minutes away. The West Somerset Railway runs from nearby Bishop's Lydeard to Minehead. Check out our Guidebook for more details of places to visit and things to do.
  • Quiet and cozy for a perfect romantic getaway. Maggie was very accommodating, especially considering the uncertainties at the time we visited. The shepherd's hut is an amazing use of space, with everything you could need, and a lovely view. Maggie and Graham provided fresh home-made bread and jam and cookies, and also milk and orange juice and eggs (mostly from their own chickens!). Will definitely be going back.

    Iain2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place really is a hidden gem! It’s just a perfect getaway for a couple! Nicely isolated but a very short drive to several lovely towns and villages! Plenty of pubs and restaurants with lovely food in particular The Green Dragon in Wellington! The shepherds hut is finished to a very high standard and the thoughtful touches in there really make it something very special! The breakfast is absolutely delicious too!

    Joe2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie and Grahams little hut is beautiful, immaculate and so so so cosy! Iv never been to somewhere they put all there thought and effort in, and the thoughtful touches of freshly made cookies, bread, jams and butter are over and beyond generous! When you get to the hut, just take a moment to absorb the view, and listening to sound of pure quietness, and the sound of tweeting birds! What could be better?! Blissful! The perfect retreat, and we will 100% be back! Kieran and Janey

  • Wonderful place to stay. Idyllic surroundings and quirky five star accommodation with lovely homely touches. Highly recommended 🤗

  • What an enjoyable stay. Perfect all round for what we needed. Maggie and Graham were easily contacted and welcomed us warmly. The feeling of being alone sat in the middle of the rolling hills, but to know there are friendly faces not far away if we needed anything was nice. The shepherds hut is delightful and cosy, giving enough space to relax. Maggie has filled the space beautifully with cute home touches and trinkets, there is everything you need and a few extras. We enjoyed the freshly laid eggs, homemade bread, cookies and jam. The weather has been very cold, but the hut is well insulated and the heating is adequate. We are looking to return to stay again during the summer months to benefit more from the beautiful outside space. Top hosts-Top trip!

    Lianne2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie was a brilliant host. We had a lovely peaceful stay and the little touches with the breakfast box and fresh bread and biscuits was a fab touch. The views in the morning was beautiful. Would really recommend. We will definitely be back.

    Rachel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie's 'hut' is a delight. It's beautifully finished and very comfortable. The electric fire kept us toasty warm, even in mid February. Sitting with a cup of tea and looking out over unspoilt countryside was wonderful - the sheep grazing in the adjacent field completed the scene. Maggie's homemade produce was a really thoughtful touch. For peaceful relaxation, the location is just perfect and we'd recommend it 100%. Maggie & Graham were very friendly, helpful hosts.

Eden Cabin is a brand new purpose built beautiful rural retreat with a picturesque garden, extensive countryside views and private sunken hot tub. Ideal for those looking for a peaceful get away or romantic break. Inside you'll find modern open plan living, dining and kitchen area with wood burning stove. The main room is flooded with light from glazed walls on two sides leading out on to a patio running the full length of the building, also a covered private deck with sunken hot tub.
With several years of experience under our belt we have put all the lessons learned into this brand new contemporary building. Set over a single floor to make access available for all, we have created a fully stocked kitchen diner leading into a comfortable lounge area with wood burning stove. This space is surrounded by glass on two sides providing access to the glorious rolling countryside views without compromising privacy. We have also extended the structure to allow for a covered semi sunken hot tub and decked area. This enables guests to enjoy the option of venturing outside and indulging in the luxury of a private hot tub or alfresco dining in the most inclement conditions. The front of the larch clad structure is laid to patio, bordered by a comfortable lawn and leading to a private bbq and dining area. If feeling adventurous there are many local walks or if hungry a selection of local pubs to cater for all tastes. With country houses to explore, national parks on the door step and access to both north and south coasts there is more than enough to keep you entertained. Exeter city is also just 20 minutes drive. Covid 19 As Eden Cabin a single bed property and the foot fall is extremely small, the location is an isolated rural setting we feel your risks are as low as you could hope to find during this crisis.
Set in rolling hills on the Somerset Devon border, Eden Cabin is a great jumping off point for much of the Southwest. Day trips to either the north or south coast are well within reach as are two national parks of Exmoor or Dartmoor. If staying local there are many walks and pubs to explore along with the charming town of Wellington. Great cafes, independent cinema and craft and art shops are among the many independent retailers on offer (there is also two small supermarkets including Waitrose)
  • Rob and Corin have created an amazing space, that is perfect for a couples get-away. The cabin was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and the little touches made it feel incredibly welcoming and homely. The hot tub made for relaxing evenings, and the comfy sofa and wood fire was the perfect way to unwind. We will definitely be visiting again.

    Iain2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rob and Corin are lovely, warm and caring people who think of what their guests would want when staying in their accommodation. They both respect guests privacy and make themselves available if you need anything. The cabin is in a beautiful location with stunning views and is so very quiet and tranquil with lovely walks. The cabin is spotless and has everything you need for your stay so you can just sit back and relax. The hot tub is a lovely touch and is situated in a spot which is sheltered from the wind and rain and you can sit back and look at the outstanding view or watch the garden birds feeding. A Kingfisher also visits at certain times if the day. The garden space is well kept and there is the option to use the bbq when the weather is brighter. We stayed at Eden Lodge last year and enjoyed our time there so when we found out Rob and Corin also had a cabin, we were pleased when we found out it was available for Valentines weekend. This little cabin is so comfortable and if you buy your food prior to your arrival, you can literally just close yourself off from the world. I would certainly recommend anyone to visit. There are a few local pubs but I would recommend The Beambridge Inn where you can have a lovely carvery as well as food from their menu but please be mindful, it does get busy so you would need to book a table.

    Karen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin set in a beautiful location. Incredibly stylish and well presented. Ideal for the winter get away we wanted. Hot tub and log burner made this an extra special place. The lay out of the cabin had been really swell thought out. Lovely lights around the hot tub made for a romantic evening relaxing. The tv bracket was genius... I'm into my gadgets and that was brilliant. Overall this is a lovely romantic getaway with a private garden in a beautiful location only a short walk down to the canal. Would highly recommend and will more than likely be back.

    Andy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had fantastic 3 nights stay at Eden Cabin. Both Rob and Corin were really helpful. Eden cabin is surrounded by the nature landscapes and yet it’s private. • Such a wonderful cabin to escape to for however long you need. My partner and I spent 3 nights in the cabin and it was really just what we needed. The fireplace and warmth of the hot tub is lovely in the winter and the quietness of the surroundings adds so much value. Rob and Corinne were both so lovely and helpful on the whole process too and we even arrived to a slice of cake!!

  • My friend and I had the most wonderful stay at Emily and Johns beautiful place. Their home is gorgeous and our room was large and very clean, with an en suite shower and very comfy bed overlooking their stunning garden where we spent a lovely time in the mornings. A simple breakfast was also provided which was great and set us up nicely for our days exploring. Thank you Emily for giving us some fab advice and recommendations on places to see. The local pub was unfortunately booked on our last night but Emily recommended another place not far (The Blue Ball Inn FYI) which was incredible. I would definitely recommend staying at Emily &John's place and if I am ever fortunate to visit beautiful Somerset again, I would stay with them again in a shot!

  • This was a one night stopover for us to break up a trip to Cornwall. It was a great choice. The place itself is set in a tiny village. It’s very peaceful and there’s very little traffic around. The pub is only a few minutes walk away and Emily had booked us a table there for our dinner, the food was lovely. Our room was large and clean. The shower was decent and there were tea and coffee making facilities. We had access to most of the house and garden. The house is lovely and we spent some time in their wonderful garden. Emily and John were both friendly, one of them was always on hand. It’s a very relaxed environment and Johns playlist added to a nice ambiance. If we’re passing through again we’ll definitely be looking into staying here again.

A great equipped kitchen, and a very cosy living room to snuggle by the fire. The shower was amazing too. Great for dogs, he loved saying hello to the chickens and sheep, and great to have a wander round the farm and into the dog friendly field. Lovely rural spot yet a short drive to Cullompton Tesco superstore for supplies. Perfect little getaway!

We were visiting family with our one year old and Anna made sure we had everything we needed; high chair, cot, baby bath etc. The place is easy to find and Anna and Alasdair were on hand if we needed them - even bringing us a mug of rice when i realised id forgotten to bring some for our dinner! The space is well designed and stylish - we would stay again if we come back to the area.

  • Ropemakers Cottage was everything we had hoped for and more the space was so liveable and surroundings beautiful. 6 min drive from Wellington and the shops and beautiful outdoor space for kids I enjoyed morning walks before the family woke to see the chickens and explore the tree house. Ideal for grandparents wheelchair/buggy ramp and downstairs double room with wet room. Beds where so comfortable my husband woke up on the first morning and said “let’s sell all we have and buy this mattress haha”. Lovely clean, warm and welcoming private space and such good value for money. Thank you

  • Lovely cottage with excellent amenities, tastefully decorated. Perfect for our last minute impromptu Christmas getaway. The disabled access, downstairs bedroom and bathroom were fantastic for our elderly relative and two other great sized bedrooms for the rest of us. Loved the mince pies, fresh eggs, milk and mulled wine and were delighted with the tree and festive lights! Friendly welcoming hosts. Highly recommended!

  • From the moment we booked Anna was the perfect host answering all my queries. The property itself was absolutely spotless and much larger than we had imagined from the pictures. It was very tastefully decorated and they had supplied everything you could think of. I would have no hesitation in recommending Linhay.

The Garden room is a very simple light warm space for two people, with its own bathroom and sitting space. Private access is via the garden gate with parking at the front of our house. You are welcome to share the garden, chickens, and our very bouncy dog Ruby. An excellent opportunity just off the M5 to enjoy the countryside, local pub (across the road), and friendly people. There are endless walks along the river often rewarded in seeing a kingfisher or maybe an otter.
The garden room has underfloor heating with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the birds in the garden. Although we are situated in the middle of the village the garden is very quiet. There is tea and coffee making equipment, plus a small fridge. I have recently added a desk to the room, making an excellent work space. The local pub and shop both sell excellent food, including a slap up breakfast; both are a very easy walk.
Culmstock is situated just off the M5 and is a brilliant stop over on any journey. Easy access to the south Devon coast, Exmoor and many other beautiful locations. If you wish to spend sometime exploring the countryside or just chilling out, it’s the place for you.
  • Lovely little room situated in Kay’s garden. Has everything you need for a short stay (bed, sofa, desk, kettle, fridge, en suit)...or a 2 week stay in my case! There were no cooking facilities in the room but I took my microwave with me. Kay was an amazing host, always happy to help...and Ruby their excitable dog was also very welcoming too. Overall, would definitely recommend as a place to stay in Culmstock.

    Lace2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy place to stay. Bargain price, with a pub that does great food, barely 60 secs away, and a cafe for breakfast just a few minutes walk. Highly recommended

  • A lovely setting, peaceful and cosy. Kay is a great host and the Garden Chalet is very comfortable.

  • Great little place and thoughtful and welcoming host

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Kay's place is very clean and works well as a single room. The pub and local shop/cafe minutes away are excellent given there is no kitchen, so you can manage quite happily.

    Lois2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for one night to break up our journey from Cornwall to Gloucester and it was perfect, lovely warm and clean little place to stay with everything you need. Kay is a lovely host. The area is also very pretty with a good pub directly opposite.

  • The Garden Room is a little gem - perfect for a couples’ night away and such a gorgeous setting in the lovely village of Culmstock. Kay was a great host and everything we needed was provided. This was such great value too, we would highly recommend! Thanks Kay xxx

    Elizabeth2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Garden Room, set in the grounds of the home of very friendly and helpful hosts Kay and Mark in Culmstock, close to the M5 and A38, near Somerset/Mid Devon border, is a perfect place for a short, rural stopover. The accommodation has a very comfortable bed, shower room, adjustable heating, if required, a small fridge and was extremely clean. Although there's no kitchen, Kay's provided crocks, cutlery, tea and coffee pots, full milk jug in the fridge on arrival, kettle, trays and an array of tea's and coffees to start you off. Free WiFi enables access to TV etc., if required. There's a hairdryer, short extension leads and some chargers. During our stay, the cosy local pub opposite offered some good, wholesome food and real fires and the excellent Deli over the bridge, on the right, down the road, had a small selection of lovely homemade food, some ham, salad items, veg, homemade cakes and stocks of other basic supplies, plus an excellent cafe, that did super breakfasts, especially takeaway bacon/sausage, tomato and mushroom baps/sarnies, perfect to watch the England/South Africa Rugby Final, before we headed home! In peaceful surroundings, with very friendly people, this great little find fits the bill for a short stay. Highly recommended! Thanks again, Kay and Mark.

Friendly home 1.5 miles from M5 J26. Kids welcome, 2 rooms available, sleeps up to 6 (variable options). Handy stop on way to Devon & Cornwall. Close to shops & Blackdown Hills, 1hr from North & South coasts. Self catering if u wish. C U soon!
Comfortable and welcoming space, warm, tidy, with some quirky decor! I will either be available to welcome you or arrange to leave a key for you. Once you have arrived you will have your own set of keys so can come and go as you please. My stairs are quite steep, so please be aware if booking with small children or others who might find that difficult!
This is a really good place to use as a stop off if you are heading down to Devon or Cornwall, being close to the M5 (j26) and between 2 and 3 hours from London and the Midlands. It's also a good base to explore the lovely local Blackdown Hills, and not too far from Dorset and North Devon coasts, and Dartmoor.
  • Highly recommended! Maya is a great host and will make you feel at home from the moment you step in. The house and the room are nice and cosy and there's all you need for a comfortable stay. I would definitely book again.

  • Lovely home and really kind and friendly host. Maya and her boys were very helpful and considerate. I had everything I needed to be comfortable during my stay and would definitely recommend staying here.

    Louise2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Maya is a welcoming and warm host, as are her family, who seemed very relaxed toward a visitor sharing their space. I felt very much 'at home' and recommend the listing to anyone wanting a slightly off-beat stay, close to the town centre and really easy to find. Only wish there had been a little more time to explore conversation with Maya herself, but a one night stopover.

    Chris2019-09-15T00:00:00Z

Situated in a quiet cul de sac the accommodation offers a double room in a private house. Access to a private toilet but the rest of the house will be shared . There is parking off street and a lovely garden to enjoy in the summer months. The house is within 10 minutes walk of the centre of Wellington, a beautiful town with much to offer in the way of independent shops. Just 3miles from Junction 26 on the M5, 8 miles from and 25 miles from Exeter. Excellent road and rail connections.
Guests can expect a warm welcome, a safe and secluded environment and are free to come and go as they choose. This is a non-smoking household which does house an elderly dog, Bobby, who is a gentle, and somewhat deaf, dog.
Wellington is home to many independent shops, a beautiful park, the nature reserve at Wellington Basins and, obviously, the tallest three sided obelisk in the world! The Wellington Monument, currently being restored by the National Trust. Wellington also has a community hospital and is just 20 minutes drive from Musgrove Hospital in Taunton.

A traditional 600 year old Devon longhouse in the heart of the countryside, we are surrounded by unspoilt rural views , a real getaway. The lower half of the cottage is self contained for guests, there is ample parking, a front herb garden and the back has a cottage style garden with picnic table and great views.
At first you enter a part cobbled passageway wide enough for a cow! Then enter a large triple aspect living space which has the usual mod cons with a relaxing area in front of the woodburner. Up a winding staircase with rail ( my dad can easily get up these, he's 86!) there is a shower room and 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin.
Bampton is the nearest village (approx 5 miles) where you will find a baker, butcher, fruit and veg shop and 2 small convenience shops. There is also a fish and chip shop, several pubs, coffee shops, restaurant and deli. Our nearest pub is 3 miles away, the Staple Cross Inn, offering good food at weekends.
  • We absolutely loved staying in this cosy cottage which is in a stunning location. It is spotlessly clean with so many thoughtful touches. We thoroughly recommend to others, we will definitely be back!
