  • Absolutely beautiful location and such scenic views from the hot tub. Short taxi into Hilltown. Annette couldn’t have been lovelier and was so helpful with all queries, local tips and useful numbers. She also gave the best directions and instructions. Enjoyed reading through the very comprehensive and informative guest book with even local restaurant menus to peruse! So thoughtful and helpful! We had gone for a late valentines treat and Annette had so thoughtfully left petals and heart shaped cushions on the bed - such a lovely surprise! We both had lovely massages/facials with Siobhan next door and I couldn’t recommend more! Very relaxing and what a nice way to treat yourself before the hot tub! Very thoughtful and kind to leave us milk, eggs and butter for the morning. Albeit brief, it was such a lovely stay and will definitely be back! Thank you Annette! :) xxx

  • This is a total gem in the Mournes. Annettes place is the perfect place to spend the weekend and indeed even longer. Location is excellent, views of the area are stunning and the apartment is spotless with so many little extras left for guests. The hot tub was a great bonus too after a days walking. Annette is a charming host and we greatly enjoyed our chats with her. I recommend her place 100% to all future Airbnb guests.

We built a house in our garden for family and friends whenever they visit. Any time it’s not been used by them we make it available for holiday let’s. The house is newly built and is situated at the end of an cul-de-sac in a typical neighbourhood in Northern Ireland. Hilltown is a lovely village in an area of outstanding beauty at the gateway to the Mourne mountains. It’s a ideal place to relax after a long day being a tourist. We are 8 miles from Newry
The house is new. By the end of spring our lawn should be fully grown. There’s a gate for extra safety at the side. We have high chairs and cribs for younger guests and can child proof the house There’s are four bedrooms available. We rent a minimum of two. We prefer guests smoke outside or if it’s raining in the garage. The house has ample parking, a small garden and patio at the back and garage for extra storage.
Hilltown is a lovely village surrounded by beautiful views of the Mourne mountains. There are lovely walks around the village We have good fishing near by, horse riding and the local GAA grounds. There is two restaurants and a coffee shop, lively bars, small grocery shops one with a post office. When you travel out of Hilltown any direction you will see amazing views of the area. There is a breathtaking drive to the Slient Valley and Newcastle through the mountains. There is a nice drive into Rostrevor and Warrenpoint overlooking Carlingford Lough. We are 8 miles from Newry and Slieve Gullion mountain range
  • Sean and Christina's house is amazing. Very stylish and perfect layout for a big group. The insulation is so well done that even with the heating off the house still stays warm. Christina and Sean left so many things for us, including food, that we really felt like at home. Perfect location to reach the Mournes. Really really really recommended.

Staying in Agnes's place was definitely a great choice as the location is perfect (close to the Silent Valley we wanted to explore and a short drive from Hilltown with shops) and the house itself is simply beautiful, stylish, cosy & comfortable. • This is the perfect choice if you want to get away from it all for a bit, while still feeling at home. The house is in a very quiet spot with great views of the Mourne mountains, and it's an excellent base for walking and exploring the area - or just relaxing in the sun in front of the house. The room is spacious and has a private bathroom. Chris and Mike were great hosts, making us feel very much at home and supplying us with maps and guidebooks for the area. We shared some lovely moments together and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay here again! Almost forgot to mention: it's also great value for money.

  • This is a spacious, very clean room with a great view. Beautiful and quiet place to catch up on sleep. Apart of this it is a fantastic mountain area to explore: numerous parks, lakes, tracking paths. A seashore with a few picturesque towns is only 15-20 min to drive. We loved our hosts Chris and Mike for their hospitality and help in any aspect. We plan to return and highly recommend as a place to anyone to have a break from busy modern life.

  • Great little cottage tucked away in the country. Geraldine was really friendly and helpful and had the stove lit for our arrival with some cookies to indulge in. The photos don’t do the cottage justice.

    James2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Geraldine’s place provides quality accommodation of the highest standard and pristinely clean with stunning views over the countryside from every window and a fabulous secure garden suitable for dog or kids. My border collie loved chasing his ball. Within minutes, you have settled in and are relaxing. Geraldine is so wonderfully welcoming providing helpful tips and local advice. She even left a delicious apple pie! . I would love to return and have already told a friend about it. Thank you.

  • What a beautifull place to stay for New Years Eve. Stove blazing away and a beautiful Christmas tree greeted us upon arrival. Geraldine was and is a wonderful host and had left us a fresh apple pie and drinks for us to enjoy. The house is fantastic and it's something special to behold. Warm snug, great Wi-Fi and satellite tv too. Peacefull and hilly countryside but with some lovely and lively villages a few kilometres away. Great food in Rostrevor and then the beautifull drives along the coastline and up into the mountains too. We will be back for sure.

  • However good the accommodation looks in the pictures, this is one of those rare occasions that everything upon arrival is just so much better. Also, the apple pie upon arrival is spectacularly good :)

  • This is a beautiful house in a beautiful area. The house had everything you could need, was clean, spacious and stylish. We loved it. There is so much to do in the area if you're outdoorsy- including activities for kids. (The house even had donkeys to pet - which my daughter loved). I would definitely recommend this house.

  • We loved spending the night at Ruth's place. We were able to cook dinner in the kitchen, and spend a cozy evening. I'm in love with the little house !! Decor reminiscent of the rustic style of a farm. All the comforts and basic products. In addition, Ruth left us chocolates and cakes! Also, the two dogs in the garden are loves. It was so cute, and so peaceful!

The master bedroom has a superking bed, which can be changed to 2 singles on request. The second bedroom has 2 single beds. The third bedroom has a single bed and a full-sized wooden cot. None of the bedrooms are ensuite. However, there is 1 full bathroom with overhead shower. A separate WC, and a separate shower cubicle. See the floorplan for further clarity. The combined kitchen-living room in Slieve Martin has a high ceiling wooden roof. The main focal point of the cottage is the wood burning fireplace. Surrounding this is 2 large sofas, with a wool rug on the floor. In the corner is a TV, with a selection of board games also provided. The kitchen has a table to seat 6. Located in the Village of Hilltown, Co. Down, The building had been allowed to fall into dereliction. Fortunately, it has since been rescued and restored by its current owners and refurbished to an excellent standard. Providing guests with modern comforts without compromising the charm and character of its distinguished past. The Downshire arms management are still striving to ensure that travelers in the Mournes will find The Downshire Arms a comfortable and well kept place to stay.

Pauline’s place is located in Hilltown, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The Downshire Arms Apartments are located between the two of Northern Ireland’s most popular mountain biking trails, Rostrevor (8 miles) and Castlewellan (10 miles). In Rostrevor, the majesty of the Mournes has to be seen to be fully appreciated, and there is nowhere better to do this than at the peak of Rostrevor's MTB trails overlooking Carlingford Lough and the towns of Rostrevor and Warrenpoint. With epic views comes epic trails, and riders have the joy of a 27km red loop which takes in every kind of feature you could want in a trail centre. Just to top things off, Rostrevor is home to Ireland's first ever purpose built DH trails, Mega Mission and On the Pulse. With a great café at the trailhead and free parking, the home to the Red Bull Foxhunt is a must on every mountain bikers list. In Castlewellan, statistically the most popular trail centre in Northern Ireland, Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails boast 19km of red trail, as well as two popular black options and some quality blue and green trails. Enjoy the pump track that overlooks Castlewellan Lake and its historic Victorian castle, before exploring trails that provide bags of flow and fun. Getting around Located in the Village of Hilltown, Co. Down, the Downshire Arms first opened to the public in 1824. Sixty years on, The Handbook Guide to Carlingford Bay, described it as a ‘comfortable well kept Coaching Inn’. By the 1970’s though, the building had been allowed to fall into dereliction. One of our apartments is also disabled friendly. Each apartment has its own, living room, kitchen and bathroom. There is private parking also. There is a stylishly designed Bar and Restaurant onsite and musical entertainment is played every weekend and don’t be surprised if, whilst sitting in the bar, someone starts playing a whistle or fiddle. It’s that kind of place. Mourne Mountains The Mourne Mountains are the highest and most dramatic mountain range in Northern Ireland, its summits crowned by granite tors. The mountains themselves are criss-crossed by an unrivaled network of paths and tracks. The area was voted the ‘Best Walking Destination’ in Northern Ireland in WalkNI's inaugural awards. The routes provide enthusiastic walkers with incredible opportunities for exploration. Other Local Attractions • Spelga Dam • Silent Valley • Tollymore National outdoor Centre • Tollymore Forest Park • Castlewellan Forest Park • Mourne Archery Centre • Royal County Down Golf Course • Mount Pleasant Horse Riding
  • Wonderful spot!

  • If your are looking for somewhere to base yourself while you explore the Mournes then Hilltown should top your list. From Hilltown the starting points for virtually all of the main walks are less than 15 minutes away as are also Castlewellan, Dundrum and Newcastle. The apartment has everything you need to for an extended stay. It is spacious and clean and Pauline not only provided a warm welcome but also all the necessities for the ever important restorative cuppa. Of special note is the bathroom has a really good shower - powerful, big enough to turn round in and plenty of hot water - all essential after tramping across the mountains all day. We hope to be back.

  • Fantastic hospitality from booking through to the end of our stay. Carmel went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable from getting a festival programme of the event we were coming to Newry to see to getting a shower seat for one of our group who is wheelchair bound. On a note of accessibility the cottage is perfectly suited for manual wheelchair users, large bathroom, room in the bedrooms and level throughout. The accommodation was in a fantastic setting on their farm with a stunning view, very clean and the beds very comfortable. It's the perfect place to stay if visiting the Newry area, 100% recommended without hesitation :)

  • We enjoyed our stay, Holly Cottage was easy to find with the directions we were given, everything worked perfectly and we enjoyed the hospitality of eggs, bread and biscuits, one of the nicest accommodations we have stayed at. Highly recommended

THERE WAS A WELCOME PACK WHICH INCLUDED EGGS,MILK,TEA,COFFEE, ORANGE JUICE, SUGAR,BREAD,BUTTER AND AN ASSORTMENT OF CEREALS. WOULD DEFINATELY VISIT AGAIN.

    Gail2019-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Holly Cottage for my Brother and their friends coming to visit from America. Once booked we received great directions to the location of the cottage and check in details. We received a great welcome from Carmel upon arrival who showed us around the place. The Cottage was perfect for what we were looking a warm Irish Cottage in the countryside. Carmel had some lovely little touches with milk, tea, coffee, already in the cupboards so we could have Tea and Coffee. Other nice touches was the board games which would come in hand on a wet evening. The Location was perfect close to Newry City with smaller towns nearby or everyday shopping and needs also only 90 mins to both Dublin Airport or Belfast International. If we have these visitors back again I would most definitely book Holly Cottage again.

    Joe2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great comfortable home. I was a little hesitant to book this home because of the limited number of reviews. Don't let that dissuade you. Great rural location and the home had everything we needed. Carmel was a great help in getting a bus schedule and telling us where to go to catch it so we didn't have to drive into Belfast. Made for a very relaxing stay.

  • A real home from home. Set out well for both young children and people with limited mobility. Having WiFi and Netflix was a bonus which was great in the evenings. Location is rural but only 5mins by car for all amenities. Great base to have while discovering Northern Island. Mimi & Rolo, the two dogs, are a couple of characters, and Levi the cat was so sweet and friendly. We had a ball interacting with them. Lovely house - loved the telly in the kitchen! Would recommend if you are an animal lover or are bringing your dog/cat with you. The village was a 10 minute walk from the house and the pub and restaurant both had great atmosphere.

The beautiful seaside town of Newcastle is a 30 min drive away. Warrenpoint & Rostrevor are approx 15 mins drive, so we are very central location to the surrounding towns/attractions. Para-gliders love to use this location throughout the year, so if you are lucky enough you can watch them from the front garden, it really is a fantastic sight. We welcome children though please note the cottage has not been child proofed and it is parents responsibility to make sure their little ones are as safe as possible both inside and out.
Situated in a secluded countryside setting, you will have peace and tranquillity here surrounded by fields and spectacular views.

  • A cosy, sparklingly clean cottage which has been beautifully restored. The hosts thought of everything, even down to a Christmas tree!

    Anne2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about Bramble Cottage was first class. High standards of cleanliness, comfort and lovely Festive touches made our stay extra special. We will definitely return.

    Emma2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Bramble Cottage is quite simply a little haven to Escape too. It is tucked away in the country side and is a must to visit. The hosts were exceptional from my first contact and nothing was a bother. I was planning a special occasion for my wife and family and the made it great recommendations for local restaurants. Upon arrival we were taken back by all the attention to detail and the very warm welcome. Fantastic personal touches. It is bright, modern yet in keeping with its traditional era and the photos do not do it justice. The sheer quality of facilities and the attention to detail in this cottage made a special occasion even more special. The fact we were visiting before Christmas and the hosts had it tastefully decorated ( even a full size tree!) meant we could get in the festive sprit! The main attraction for Bramble cottage is that it is a Home From Home experience and we were made to feel “at home” by our fantastic hosts. Until the next time....!

    Alastair2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was spacious and beautifully decorated. It was absolutely immaculate, with everything you could possibly need for a fantastic stay. Booking was so easy, the hosts responded really quickly to messages. Would definitely recommend and book again!

    Melissa2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Bramble Cottage is a beautiful property inside and out. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. James replied to any messages very promptly and was very honest about whether it would be suitable for my needs. I would have loved to stay longer and will definitely return. Many thanks James and Abigail for letting us experience this lovely cottage.

    Elaine2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Bramble cottage was absolutely delightful! James and Abigail have created a beautiful and fun space with a fully equipped kitchen and they even had a huge welcoming basket waiting for us! The cottage was sparkling clean, beds were so comfy and the wood stove lovely to have lit on a cold night. James was exceedingly quick in his communication and gracious in answering our questions. We loved being out in the country on a farm yet the cottage was extremely private being set apart on its own. We would love to come stay again and highly recommend Bramble cottage to other guests!

    Katie2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fresh clean property with modern facilities including an outside barbecue. The property is approx 4.5 miles from any mayor town so factor in the cost of a taxi if you fancy a bit of night life otherwise the property has everything you need to stay in with your feet up watching Netflix with a log fire to warm you toes. Great place.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Jills wonderful home. The home is tucked away in a lovely quiet part of the countryside yet access to lots of neighbouring villages with good places to eat is very convenient! The house itself definitely has the “wow” factor, classically styled, warm and welcoming. Jill had a little welcome basket for us which is a lovely added extra! Our young family enjoyed all the space on offer including a large garden with plenty of toys around the home to entertain them. When we arrived Jill met us and had the fire set ready to go. A must stay in the area! We will be back!

    Maria2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful house, we had very comfortable stay during a cold winters weekend. The house is very much as described in the pictures, if not more lovely. Great space and spotlessly clean with everything we needed for a lovely weekend getaway.

    Susan2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Jill and Robert's house is an amazing place to stay! Warm and welcoming and 5 star in every way! It is a great size but feels warm and homely! All the extra little touches make it even more special. The house is also very stylish..like a small boutique hotel...you will not be disappointed!

    Kerry2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Second stay in Cavan House and as per previous review just prior to this, it was great. Zero complaints and we stayed for quite some time where normally you start to notice things in an old house, but that wasn't the case here. Lovely, quiet, warm, cozy home - and massive plus points with the aga, bbq that can be used year round, open fire with plenty of fuel provided, great local supermarket, and beautiful grounds. V relaxing! Thanks again for everything Jill and Robert

    Ronan2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The house is perfect for family or friends gathering. Very homely.

    Janice2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jill is the best host! Love this place - great space, with absolutely everything you could need or wish for. For longer stays basically having 2 kitchens with an Aga in one and a separate cooker / oven in the other is great. Lots of space, beautifully manicured gardens, and Jill is just so easy to get along with and a great communicator with regard to any issues or questions at all. The house itself has great character, and the location for access to so many different areas around the Mourne Mts is perfect. Highly recommend!

    Ronan2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Cavan House was everything we’d hoped it to be & more! The home is well appointed & has the amenities of a modern home with the quaintness of a historic one. It was perfect sized for dinner our group of 8 & being centrally located Belfast & Dublin was a great home base for our adventures.

    Lauren2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two weeks at the property, as a bit of a country escape. House is brilliant, as described. Area is lovely, green, mountains, great amenities. Jill is a brilliant host. The perfect place for a family escape, we will be back!

From here you can look out onto the view of the stunning Mourne Mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Close to many Game of Thrones locations such as Tollymore Forest Park.
  • Catherine's place is beautiful and she is an incredible host! We were greated by a stunning building and Catherine had lit the fire in the lounge and had both coffee and cake ready when we arrived. The rooms are gorgeous and beds are comfy. Catherine gave us loads of tips for exploring the Mournes and helped us decide the best routes and restaurants to visit. Her breakfast is delicious and all your needs catered to. On New Year's Catherine even invited us to join her at the local pub which was a great experience with an amazing atmosphere. There are lots of walks and places to visit, we recommend having a car to drive to all the sites, but even the local walk to the Lake is beautiful and worth a visit. We would have loved to have more time as there are so many places to visit, so long stays are recommended! We definitely recommend Catherine's place and hope to come back sometime!

    Riverside2019-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Catherine`s family house was like a little travel in time, where good manners, sense of noble and the perfect cup of tea with milk and home-made lemon pie makes you feel really blessed and royal. House is exceptionally clean and calm, breakfast cooked by Catherine personally and her tips for outdoor activities in Northen Ireland was very useful. Great host, great place.

    Olga2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Less than 20 minutes drive from the stunning scenery where 'Game of Thrones' was filmed this lovely old farmhouse retains all the charm of a turn of the century 'Gentleman Farmer's' home. We were welcomed with tea and cake in the 'drawing room' and breakfasted in a dining room which could easily be a set for an Agatha Christie film. While the lovely plaster work, panelled walls and period furniture speak of another age the power shower and internet access bring the modern conveniences we come to expect. Breakfast was great with a range of fresh fruit and berries, granola and a choice of cooked dishes including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. As a host Catherine was charming and we really enjoyed our chats about life, the universe and everything.

    David2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Myself & my son stay one night at Catherine's place. What a wonderful house in a great location total undiscovered so much to see & do. Very easy to access just of the main motorway. Some great walks nearby. The house is amazing, beautiful decor lovely features everywhere. Our bedroom with own private bathroom was large and tasteful decorated. With the best shower ever... Catherine will give great welcome & make you feel right at home. Would highly recommend Catherine's home.

  • Pauline is a fantastic host and couldn't have been more welcoming. She was always contactable if we needed, left a welcome pack and even gave great insights into where to go for our bbq. If we hadn't already planned our bbq we would have ate in the restaurant as the food lookes amazing. Rooms were good size, comfy beds, living space was great for hanging out with a kitchen we used to make a fry before we left! Really good value, good location with local shops for any extras you might need!

Located in the Village of Hilltown, Co. Down, The building had been allowed to fall into dereliction. Fortunately, it has since been rescued and restored by its current owners and refurbished to an excellent standard. Providing guests with modern comforts without compromising the charm and character of its distinguished past. The Downshire arms management are still striving to ensure that travelers in the Mournes will find The Downshire Arms a comfortable and well kept place to stay
There are a total of 6 self-catering courtyard apartments (originally the stable block) to chose from, either 3 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms or 1 bedroom apartments. One of our apartments is also disabled friendly. Each apartment has its own, living room, kitchen and bathroom. There is private parking also.
  • We had such a comfortable stay here and the kids had so much fun and the staff were so friendly and hospitable. Many thanks, we'd certainly recommend it.

  • Clean, tidy and cosy. We used the apartment as a base to travel to the Fleadh and it was great. Lovely touches were the snacks, milk, tea etc.

Our House is decorated to a high standard. We are in a rural location so the views are stunning, and there are plenty of place locally to visit, parks, Mountain walks etc.
We have lots of cafes locally, Homeland Diner in Rathfriland is our "go to" cafe, Home cooked good food. Local fish and chip restaurant, chinese, chicken burger shop, or something a bit more up market, the Anglers Rest near Katesbridge or the Bronte Steak House, - both within 6 miles. If you want to go out and have a drink we would transport you there and back for a small fee
