Places to stay in Gore Bay

Places to stay in Gore Bay
The building is on State Highway 1 which is busy and noisy . It is not suitable for light sleeper .There is a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave only no cook top . Seperate bathroom with toilet .The Old Cop Shop is not fancy or flash but it is clean and tidy . This place used to be the police station in Cheviot . It’s one of the smallest police stations built in the South Island . It’s a great place for an overnight stay before heading to the ferry to Wellington . There is no T V or wi fi
The Old Cop Shop is unique in its own right . It’s not a brand new building it’s quite old but it is clean and tidy inside . It is on State Highway 1 which gets very busy and noisy with traffic from the ferries in Picton in the evenings so if you are a light sleeper this is not the place for you .
The building is located on State Highway one right next door to North Canterbury Vet Clinic . The shopping area is walking distance from building . Cafes Supermarket and Trust Hotel are all near by for food provision and meals .
  • Great stop on the way to Christchurch - noise was not an issue for us at all and slept very well!

  • A chic little house in the center of Cheviot. A perfect place for a stopover. A supermarket is not far away and the beach can be reached in just a few minutes.

  • Very very cute tiny house in the ce ter of Cheviot, one minute walk to grocerie store and cafés. Super comfy, warm, with everything you need and a generous breakfast. We loved it.

  • A great little place with nice little touches. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was super comfortable. The place has an interesting back story as well. Light sleepers might not tolerate the traffic noise outside on State Highway 1, but I didn't think it was too bad, and I'm not the greatest of sleepers.

  • Can’t fault Marie (host) and her hospitality. The accomodation is obviously loud being located on SH1 so not ideal if you are a light sleeper and the mattress is very firm, only an issue for me being heavily pregnant at the time of our stay. Otherwise the accom was very cute and close to all local amenities. Can recommend the corn fritters at Two Rivers! Our stay was very pleasant! Thank you Marie

    Teri2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Marie’s place is sitting on a small town. It’s tiny, clean and warm, a big car parking was ready too. A place noted without kitchen, but we did light dinner for us, wine glasses were ready too. Gore Bay is very nearby, some people donate benches memories their family or friends. Some people hanging rocks and leave it for travel or for love memories. We did one for us.^^ Light breakfast also ready in the fridge, isn’t it wonderful!

  • I recommend The Cop Shop as a excellent budget stay on the way to catch the Picton ferry.

  • We had a great stay at Marie‘s apartment. It‘s situated on a farm just minutes away (by car) from beautiful gore bay beach. At first the surroundings may seem a little bit run-down but the appartment is very modern and convenient. It has a huge kitchen with everything you need for cooking, a big living room with a tv and dvds and a nice bathroom with a washing machine. We had a great stay, Marie and her husband are very nice people.

  • A wonderful peaceful get away, we enjoyed sitting on the decking gazing out across the sea. The apartment had everything needed to self cater, and was very comfortable. John and Marie gave us a warm welcome, John very informative giving us lots of tips about the area.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Gore Bay over Christmas Day, the apartment was very comfortable and clean, with extra thoughtful touches in the fridge and a very well equipped kitchen. Thank you Marie and family for being so welcoming.

  • This place is about as picturesque as you can ask for. We enjoyed our stay.

    Chris2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was lovely - a shiny clean, beautifully finished apartment upstairs amongst the trees and birds, with a view of the sea. Plenty of amenities, and lovely extra touches like bread and milk in the fridge. The hosts John and Marie were wonderful, and we really enjoyed getting to know them, and seeing their fantastic vegetable garden . Totally recommend this wonderful place!

'The Tree House' has a lodge feel and is the magnificent home of Sanna & Ellis. Sanna is from Finland & Ellis, a Kiwi, is a filmmaker for National Geographic. The Tree House has amazing views, overlooking rolling hills to the Kaikoura Mountains. Sanna & Ellis built The Tree House by hand. It has many remarkable features; from two 9m tree trunks in the lounge, to a huge open fire built of rocks up to a ton in weight. The house has featured on TV and in magazines.
Your room is cosy with a comfortable Queen bed, electric blanket and beautiful timber ceiling. The room also has an office desk and a leather sofa. The room comes with its own private bathroom and toilet (not en-suit). The bathroom is very stylish with natural stone tiling and a timber bench top vanity. The bathroom has a shower and bath. Relax in the lounge with its two massive trees holding up the timber ceiling 9 meters above. Sit back and enjoy the sunset while sipping a wine, eat breakfast overlooking the mountains in the outdoor areas, or take a relaxing stroll around the walking tracks on the property, amongst singing birds and rolling hills. Feel free to exercise in the comprehensive gym downstairs. There is lots of equipment; treadmill, rower, bike, free weights and machines. Use of the gym is complimentary to all guests. "Wow. . . the most amazing place we have stayed in while travelling in New Zealand. And Ellis & Sanna are a delightful couple living extraordinary lives." M & J Butler, USA.
Cheviot is a small friendly town that occupies the rolling farmland between two of the South Island's magnificent braided rivers and the Pacific Ocean. While small in stature, Cheviot has attractions and services well beyond its size. Big blue skies and fresh country air are the base notes for this slice of paradise. The pace is relaxed, crowds are few. Cheviot village is the economic and social hub of this largely rural community of around 1,500 people, where "old fashioned" community values sit comfortably alongside the town's growing art scene and attractive cafes. Cheviot enjoys a full range of shops and services while just down the road is Gore Bay, one of the South Island's top surf spots and a popular destination for families to swim, explore the rock pools at low tide, fish and dive. The Hurunui and Waiau rivers offer premium salmon and trout fishing and the delicious whitebait. Check out the Domain at the south edge of town on the coast side, wonderful in the spring with abundant Daffodils. Cheviot Domain: A walking track takes you down the Gore Bay road and into the Cheviot Hills Domain where specimen plantings date back to the 1860s. There is a rich history within the Cheviot Hills Domain. Be sure to stop at the cricket pavilion to read the display. The walking path continues back into Cheviot and is popular with locals and visitors looking to break their journey. There are numerous walking / biking trails through the Domain. Cheviot Domain – Ready Money Trail walk: A beautiful circuit through the woodlands of the historic Cheviot Hill Reserve. Distance: 3km Fitness Level: Easy - mixed use track Gore Bay Beach: Just down the road is Gore Bay, a well known surf and swimming beach and popular holiday spot. At low tide it is possible to walk around the coast to Port Robinson and Manuka Bay where a track through coastal forest brings you to a lookout above the bay with views to the Kaikoura Mountains and Hurunui River mouth. For up-to-date surf reports and tide information visit: www.portrobinson.net.nz Gore Bay - Tweedies Gully walk: Tweedies Gully track is a bush walk that end at a high lookout point overlooking the coast. It is well signposted but set back from the main street of the bay, by the beach. Look out for the DOC signpost on your right towards the southern end of the Bay. It traverse the attractive 63-hectare Cathedral reserve with a variety of vegetation and landforms, the track passes through rich broadleaf coastal forest, gradually climbing into regenerating kānuka forest. Birds are plentiful in this reserve. Return the way you came. Manuka Bay to Hurunui Mouth coastal walk: From the southern end of Manuka Bay beach, pass through the gate in the fence and follow the track up through the forest to an open grassy area. The track crosses this then enters an area of regenerating mānuka and flax. There are examples of tunnel and gulley 'badland' erosion along the track. It then passes through a stretch of mature coastal forest, dipping into gullies and rising again to give views of the coastline and the nearby Hurunui lagoon. A seat placed on the headland is a fine place to rest and admire the expansive ocean views. As the track continues to head south the forest gradually thins out before reaching open farmland. At this point the Hurunui Walkway (external site) crosses private farmland for 10 minutes to reach the Hurunui Mouth Road near the mouth of the Hurunui River. There are fantastic ocean and coastal views from the track. Getting there: Drive on SH1 to Domett, then turn down the signposted Hurunui Mouth Road (126 km north of Christchurch). Drive 4 km down the road before turning off down the unsealed Port Robinson Road. Follow the winding road for 4 km then down through a gate to the informal picnic area by the beach at Manuka Bay. The track can also be accessed from the southern end of the Hurunui Walkway, Hurunui Mouth Road, near the mouth of the Hurunui River. Nature and conservation: The Port Robinson area lies at the southern and eastern limits of a number of bird and plant species. The area is known for its abundant bird life. Know before you go: The final 10 minutes of track to the Hurunui River mouth is a New Zealand walkway that crosses private land. Stay on the track and do not disturb any stock. No toilets or water are available on this track. Rivers close by: The Hurunui and Waiau rivers provide great fishing for trout, salmon and whitebait. The clean, clear waters are popular with kayakers and jetboaters, and the many swimming holes are a welcome retreat on a hot summer’s day. St Anne’s lagoon: North of Cheviot is St Anne’s Lagoon, a wildlife sanctuary that is home to a wide variety of waterfowl. Golf: There is an attractive 12 hole golf course is open to the public, an immaculate bowling green, and collection of paper roads and farm tracks are ideal for mountain biking and hiking while road cycling enthusiasts can enjoy the Gore Bay Tourist Drive from Cheviot through to Port Robinson and Domett. Jet Boating – Cheviot: Energy Jet is passionate about helping people experience this hidden gem of a river and our surrounding environment. We are a small family owned business that offers you a real local New Zealand jet boating experience. As the only jet-boat operator on the Hurunui river, we have exclusive access to over 100km of the river and its amazing variety allowing you to personalise your trip preferences. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the wild coastline, stunning North Canterbury farmland and pristine alpine snowfed waters as your skipper expertly navigates the shallow river braids & narrow canyons. Energy Jet can also extend your adventure to combine the thrill of jet boating with scenic picnic options. • This is a truly remarkable place to stay. Stunningly beautiful, artistic and eclectic, comfortable and welcoming. Sanna was a great host. We wanted to stay longer. I highly recommend staying there.

  • What an incredible place Sanna and Ellis have built! It has been the most stunning place I have seen during my visit in NZ. Sanna, on top of it, is a real nice person and an excellent host, which makes you feel very welcome. Everything was just perfect and if I could give more than a 5*rating would do it. So lucky I came passed it. To cut it short: If you get a chance to stay there, go for it.

    Michele2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A true highlight of our visit to New Zealand. We would have loved to stay longer but could not. Sanna and Ellis are so welcoming into their beautiful, unique and stunning home. The attention to detail at the price is amazing. If you are anywhere near Cheviot between Kaikoura and Christchurch book The Treehouse, you will not be disappointed.

  • Sanna & Ellis are the coolest hosts ever! Their home was surreal and such magical surroundings! I’d recommend snagging up both of their Airbnb’s at once with family and enjoying the whole property as we did... my wife, son and I slept in the outdoor room and it was amazing! Our in-laws slept in the main treehouse and they loved it...Best Air BnB ever...We’ll definitely be back!

  • Beautiful unique tree house home located in Cheviot. Our host Sanna was warm and welcoming and provided everything we needed. The property has a great view of the surrounding countryside and we enjoyed the nice breakfast overlooking the beautiful view. Ideal for a stop over or prolonged stay on the way north or west. Highly recommended just to see the place!

  • We loved the place, I could perhaps describe it as “glamping”. The bed was super comfortable, we made the dinner on the little oven outside on the terrace while watching the sunset and afterwards the milkyway. We ate breakfast together among the trees with our host while enjoying a conversation about New Zealand. Recommended for people that love nature surroundings while still getting cosy in the bed.

Our house is a lovely place to enjoy a holiday by the sea. Relax and enjoy the time warp of the quiet town of Gore Bay. The house is sheltered from the wind and has a lovely sunny aspect. Only a 25m walk and you're on the beach. It's a classic simple kiwi bach experience at great location.
The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. A fully equipped kitchen, sunny lounge and spacious bedrooms. It's a typical kiwi bach by the sea. We're in the process of slowly improving things so you might see some sign of that.
The sea is the main attraction here. This is an unspoilt place where you can kick back and relax. Shops and restaurants are 10 km away in Cheviot.
  • Our first time in a beachside cabane in New Zealand. Loved it! Gore Bay is such a quiet place with lovely driftwood to build cabins @ the beach. It is an ideal beginner surf beach & there are great hikes. We stayed for 3 days and had a great time with our 2 daughters, playing the games that are in the house, puzzling and sleeping. It gets so dark at night, we slept like babies! The house is big for a family of 4, has a renewed bathroom and everything you need in the kitchen. It even has a fireplace! It was too hot to use for us, but must be a lovely feature in winter. Would stay here again!

  • This spot is so quiet and relaxing, close to a wild beach. We were nice and cozy and comfy. We got checked in on when it started to rain to see we had firewood etc. Staying here was well worth the money

  • We had a great stay at Susan and Richard’s air bnb. The property was a bit of magic. The location was gorgeous with great views of all the hills and surrounding area. The night sky was incredible. Their little dog was very friendly. The space itself was very private and quite spacious. Susan and Richard were very friendly and gave us a ton of great ideas for exploring the South Island. Would definitely recommend! Thanks so much!

  • The accomodation is clean, tidy, comfortable and has a colourful creative feel with lovely pictures and bits and pieces around. Hosts are friendly and generously supplied some fresh eggs and breakfast good that we weren't expecting. The farm environment is peaceful with great views of rolling countryside, a much needed detox from the internet during our short stay.

  • We had a lovely time with our baby at Susan and Richard’s adorable cabin. Greta Valley is such a beautiful part of the country and it was so nice to be in the countryside. We met Susan on our last day and she was a lovely friendly lady, communication great throughout and lots of thoughtful touches like milk in the fridge, eggs, windows open to cool the place down etc. We will be back for sure!

  • We had a lovely stay at Julie's place in Gore Bay. Right by the beach with lovely views of the ocean. The place is exactly what we expected it to be and was perfectly located for the wedding we attended in Cheviot. Julie was quick to respond and made everything very easy for our group.

The West Wing is a newly renovated, self-contained sleep out nestled behind our home at Motunau Beach. We are right on the waterfront of the river mouth, view a clear view of Motunau Island. There is a beautiful swimming beach, Sandy Bay, a short walk away. There are various scenic walks around the place, with lots of adventures to be had. We are here to share insights, tips and to guide you during your stay or simply leave you alone to enjoy the peace and quiet. We have wifi available.
Motunau is a small settlement comprised mostly of bachs (Kiwi holiday homes) with a few permanent residents such as myself. There are no shops here, the closest supermarket is 40 minutes away, so come prepared! Motunau Island is a nature reserve with a seal colony, sometimes we get seal visitors in the river!
  • Amazing bed, lovely and clean with everything we could have needed.

    Jade2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely Airbnb … quiet and safe … bed was great … so were the linens … plenty of hot water ... internet was good, although the connection dropped from time to time, but then started back up. Personally, I love Motonau. The beach is nice and quiet and well, it's one of my favorite places to relax … just remember to take food with you.

We run goats, ducks and chickens on our land which you are welcome to view, pet etc. There are sheep and beef as well as deer farms around us and 2 dairy farms. We have board games available as well as bikes for entertainment. The Cheviot township is 5 minutes south by car, there is a small supermarket with essentials as well as a hardware store, a bottle store, library, museum, several historic buildings and places, a bakery/pub, several cafes to chose from, a rural store and a petrol station. Just before town there is a very beautiful reserve for walking and biking, named Cheviot Hills Reserve, filled with ancient oaks, wild mushrooms and lovely daffodils in spring time. Near by is picturesque Gore Bay, a 20 minute drive from our place, where you can walk, run, see seals and native birdlife as well as complete a native bush walk as well as forage and fish for local seafood.
  • Sophie, Steve & Sergio are very welcoming and made us very comfortable. The beds are very comfortable too. The goats and sheep and ducks and chickens were so much fun!

  • Wonderful hosts and a very nice house, you could spend all day in the bathroom! Good sized bedrooms with lovely views. So relaxing to sit outside with Sergio (dog) and watch the animals. We hope to return.

  • Sophie and Steve are very good hosts and the house is very well situated in the country.

  • Lovely place, kids enjoed meeting the farm animals.

    Artem2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is superb! A gorgeous Little farm against a stunning backdrop of mountains and rolling paddocks. The gentle sounds of animals, and birds in swaying trees was uplifting to the spirit. But the real treasures were the bright personalities of Sophie and Steve... Sophie is a domestic, DIY goddess who can honestly do - or make - anything! Just knowing she exists in this world creating, nurturing and raising anything she puts her mind to makes me smile with happiness. What a girl! And Steve is kind and thoughtful, but above all, a great host and compliment to Sophie's abundant energy. We cannot speak highly enough of this fine couple, their knowledge of so many interesting topics and the place they love to share with travelers. Thanks S and S! Olivia and Eddie.

    Olivia2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Sophie’s was amazing! So clean and cosy the beds were super comfy and the view from our rooms onto the farm was beautiful. Loved watching farm life wake up in the morning especially because we got to meet/hold baby goats ! Stunning house and hosts will be back for sure:)

    Zandra2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Smooth and effortless check-in. Gorgeous views from the bedroom! We loved the company of the animals and the bird songs from our room.

    Nancy2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie's house is on a beautiful, quiet little farm with goats, chicks, ducks and a lovely big dog. The host is warm and hospitable. Not only does he live comfortably, he can also learn a lot of new knowledge about food, and he will definitely live there next time.

Claverley is a unique spot set alongside the natural coastline of this region. Dolphins, seals and the odd whale frequent the area. Moa cottage offers somewhere to relax and unwind while listening to the ever changing sea sounds and the local native birds. Our cottage is comfortable with all the necessities (laundry, dishwasher etc) so you can enjoy your stay. Although there is no wifi, cell phone coverage is good considering the remoteness so you are able to hotspot off your phone.
Gas provides cooking for the hob and instant hot water. We have a TV with usb ports and builtin DVD player. Sorry no TV channels. Please note: the beach is NOT a swimming beach. If you are prepared to go for a walk down the beach (30 min) swimming is available in the salt water lagoon. Water levels vary.
Local attractions - salt water lagoon to the South offers a good spot for kayaking and swimming (30 min walk) or venture to Haumauri Bluff up the far end of the beach to a lovely bay where you swim or dive (beach access has now been cut off and is a 1hr hike following a track beside the railway track). Fishing is reported to be good at varying times of the year - Blue Moki, School sharks and Karawhi Other attractions within driving distance Kaikoura - 45 min: whale watching, swimming with dolphins Cheviot - 20 min. : Gorgeous cafes, local art displays Gore Bay - 30 min: Great surfing and swimming, Cathedral Gully Hanmer Springs - 1.35hr: Hotpools, mountainbiking
  • Lovely and cozy place to spend our first night. Amazing location if you plan to be away from it all and have miles of beautiful beach all to yourself. Very comfortable beds and seamless communication. Wish we had stayed another night.

    Nathan2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. Modern inside and feels like you have a private beach to yourself. We stayed here to do the Whale watching in Kaikoura - it's only around 45min drive if that. I would definitely recommend.

    Derrick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful little cottage with all the modern amenities. Very homely. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Very decorative. Quiet and beautiful at night all you can hear is the sea and awesome night sky with all the stars, I have never seen so many. Right by the beach, with a pathway marked out with solar lights. And driftwood art along the way. The ocean is such a beautiful color and lots of sand, big beach. And has the most beautiful sunrise over the beach and sea.

    Donna2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a must stay! We have spent most of our trip to NZ in towns and cities and we were a bit nervous about venturing to the wilderness for two days- we now wish we’d stayed longer! It’s so peaceful in Hundalee and the cabin is so close to the beach which is great for walks. It’s very nice not having WiFi and there’s a selection of DVDs and board games to get back to the old way of life! Cabin is well kitted out and very comfortable. Defo recommend staying here, and if you can, stay more than two nights!

Everyone says how fabulous the breakfasts are and its 100% true. They are healthy, nutritious and we looked forward to them each morning. We also had fantastic massage's at her clinic in Hanmer Springs and recommend them too.

  • Ani is a very hospitable host with great communication. The room has a terrific view right from the bed. Ani has added plenty of personal touches throughout the room to make it as peaceful and restful as possible. We loved lavender oil next to the bed! As many others have mentioned, the breakfast is phenomenal! I would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Ani's place is very relaxing after the bustle of Hanmer. She is very welcoming, the bed is comfortable and the breakfast in the garden was delicious.

    Nicky2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Ani’s place a lot. Ani’s breakfast is the best we have had in a AirBnB stay, healthy, generous and freshly prepared. The room is spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the Yogi herbal tea provided in the room and the chocolate was a sweet touch. We enjoyed great conversation with Ani and Richard. They gave us very good tips for the rest of our trip. We recommend a stay at their place.

  • A unique home full of character in a peaceful location - highlights of our stay were the wonderful hospitality from Ani and her family, and the lovely breakfast served in the garden on a warm, Sunday morning. Relax and enjoy the newly renovated self contained unit. Step outside to enjoy the beautiful farm views. This is a real rural getaway! Just a short drive to Cheviot, Gore Bay and Waiau. If you want to venture further Hanmer Springs is approx 45 minutes. They have thermal hot pools or Kaikoura which has the whale watching, dolphin encounters and many more. Our wee family of 4 love the quiet and beautiful surroundings we have up here.
Small yet spacious, modern and comfortable newly renovated self contained unit (an outbuilding to the house) with a bathroom and kitchenette with cooking facilities. Complimentary free range eggs in the unit for you to enjoy. Chickens are farmed here on our family farm.
We are rural so have neighbours that are approx 3kms away so very private.

Our House is on 10 aces which will have our horses and maybe some cattle. House is older style bungalow but cosy and warm when the fires going. A queen airbed is available if needed for extra sleeping requirements. Our home is 3 minutes car ride and 30 minute walk to Cheviot village on State highway 1 to Kaikoura and Picton. Cheviot has 3 cafes, a supermarket, a hotel and a hardware shop. It is 8 kms from a swimming beach and bush walks. We have off street parking for cars and campers.
Neighbourhood is quiet, beach is 8 minutes away by car. Kaikoura 1 hour north by car. Christchurch 1 hour south by car. 1 hotel and 3 cafes in the village which is 3 minutes by car or 30 minutes walking. Property has a creek running through the bottom paddocks, horses and cattle on the property. We are happy for guests to wonder around as long as gates are closed.
  • Lovely little farm stay- really enjoyed our night here.

    Rhiannon2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ann’s place is a characterful, quiet property with great touches which will make your stay comfortable and restful, just as it did our short stay memorable this summer. Kitchen has everything just like home too.

    Tessa2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Although the whole house is a bit biased, the house is too beautiful, with a large and beautiful garden. The living room, kitchen and bedroom are very spacious, and the kitchen utensils and kitchenware are very complete and very comfortable. Because we arrived late and the town's shops were closed, with some regrets, it is advisable to buy something to bring. It is an hour away from Kaikoura, if you catch the boat early to see the whale a little far away. The overall feeling is still very good

    Lijin2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house is clean and the decoration is very special. The welcoming dessert was delicious.

    Ngarita2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the old schoolhouse . Patrick was the perfect host - there if you needed him . Beautiful property with loads of space - inside and out. There is a large bedroom small bathroom and large lounge diner with well equipped kitchenette complete with wood burning stove that throws out huge heat . Plenty of space to sit and eat outside too It is 35-40 mins drive to Kaikoura but the drive is very beautiful . No shops so bring everything you need with you . There have been comments about the traffic - we didn’t find it an issue and it certainly did not interfere with our sleep . I highly recommend - would love to go back .

    Audrey2020-02-24T00:00:00Z

  • We really enjoyed staying on the farm in the delightful, and very private hut. Rosa and her family were excellent hosts. We had 2 great walks at Lewis Pass, and on Mt Isabel near Hanmer springs, and the scenery was spectacular.

    Julian2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • on the outside a charming but rustic shepherd's quarters - on the inside a delightful shabby chic space with lovely touches of colour, fresh and bright with new paint and blinds, comfortable family pieces and stylish decorator touches. Loved the fresh flowers. A stylish makeover for a working man's rooms makes for a comfortable stay. Shearing was on when we were there but despite all the work, Rosa and Stumpy and Ben were so welcoming and helpful. It felt very country with the sheep and dogs and activity but so peaceful in the evening. We spent time just walking along the farm tracks and also a day up at Hanmer Springs an hour away. Gore Bay in the other direction provided a beach and good bird watching too. We had a wonderful time with these warm and welcoming country people.

    Tony2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place with an amazing surrounding! Rosa is a great host: welcoming, friendly and helpful. I actually got a private tour around the farm which I won't forget for the rest of my life.

  • Simple but very comfortable little cabin on Rosa's farm. Stylish little touches made it very homely, and there's a couple of nice little walks down to the creek to breathe in the serenity. Very relaxing little stay.

  • Rosa and Richard provided the most outstanding hospitality we have encountered in New Zealand. It was fabulous to encounter the animals up close and learn more about the life of farmers in this country. The accomodation was clean and comfortable with wonderful views of the mountains. Well done to Rosa for all the hard work she has put into transforming this old shearer’s quarters into a warm and cosy self contained apartment. We will definitely back. We highly recommend this stay to other travellers who are happy to get off the beaten track and see the real New Zealand. I would give more than five stars if I could.

Every day nature puts on a show and you are invited to participate in a way that even when the doors are shut you are not shut out. Your PurePod is total surround glass – that's right even the roof! The Korimako PurePod is just 90 minutes north-east of Christchurch, nestled into native forest along the Greta Valley coastline, with beautiful views out to the bay and an abundance of bird-life in the forest.
"We loved our three wonderful days on your beautiful farm. Memories of the scenery, spectacular night skies, peace and tranquility - and finally the delish food you delivered each day - scrumptious! The perfect stay after a month on the road in your beautiful country!" Lynette & Stephen, United Kingdom At night you sleep with the Southern Cross and millions of other stars, by day you are surrounded by dramatic natural landscapes. Relax, let nature refuel your soul. PurePods are designed to ensure that you experience nature's show vividly, utilising all of your senses whilst remaining sheltered in luxury. The effect is incredible. The stress of life disappears, the wonder at nature’s power and subtlety reconnects us with ourselves – and our partners. The privacy, the isolation of a tiny glass hut completely surrounded by nature – the sky, the hills, the sea, the birds, the bush – takes you to another world.
The PurePod is designed as a place to relax and re-connect. It is purposely isolated. Stretch out on the deck or in the shade nearby and enjoy a complete absence of people and traffic. If you are staying for a couple of days, perhaps set aside some time to check out the local sights, whether that’s the wineries down the road in Waipara, walking along Motunau Beach, relaxing over lunch at the Fossil Point Cafe & Gallery, finding a good fishing spot at the Hurunui River mouth or experiencing the thrill of a jet boat ride on the Hurunui River with Energy Jet.

Relax with coffee on the deck of this delightful, rustic bach, located on a private stunning beach. You are likely to spot seals or dolphins on their travels. There is always plenty to see and do. Fishing, cricket, reading, puzzles, etc. For shops head 40 minutes North to Kaikoura or 30 minutes south to Cheviot for spectacular wines and art filled cafes. Please note: do not swim at the beach -the lagoon is best for summer swimming, located south of the cottage. (No pets).
If you have toddlers, please note: The sea is out the front of the cottage, and there is no fencing around the property. Also no laundry room. Small beach bonfires are permitted away from tussock only in low fire risk seasons and best on a calm evening. Not in summer sorry. A bach is a term for a New Zealand holiday home. It is not a fancy hotel. It is an isolated place of beauty where simplicity is part of the charm. Furniture is clean but not brand new. Perfection is not the goal. Staying at a bach is an opportunity to enjoy peace, family and the outdoors. No pets.
Claverley is a small, quiet seaside holiday spot, surrounded by farms and quaint historic railway houses.
  • This place is absolutely stunning, perfect location on the beach, peace and quiet, dolphins in the shorewaters. Highly reccomended to anyone looking for absolute peace and quiet and tranquility.

  • Great location right on the beach. For a break without WiFi and in a simple hut by the sea just right. Tip: find out the opening hours of the refuestation before, we had to carry our garbage unfortunately long in the car, because they had (only three days a week open).

sleeps up to 11 - Rustic dorm (sleeps up to 8, plus a floor mattress) with 2 showers and 2 loos. Dorm leads into fully equipped kitchen & dining with WiFi, tv/dvd, cosy firebox and summer swimming pool access. Additional small separate private double room. Strictly no smoking anywhere on the property. If you are a smoker please do not stay here.
The Old Coach House located at The Staging Post is rustic and full of character, a bit like your hosts Linda and Mike. We aim to make you as comfortable as possible and recognise we're not the Hilton Hotel so bring a sense of humour and call us with any question. But no smokers please.
Next door to sheep & cattle paddocks, some noisy nocturnal possums and some human neighbours (you can't see), The Old Coach House is located at The Staging Post, a rustic rural retreat in North Canterbury. There is a garage and store about 7km south, or Cheviot township is 20km south. Kaikoura is 50km north or a (non swimming) beach visit to view the Kaikoura mountains plunging into the ocean is about 20 minutes away.
  • We had an amazing time at the staging post and would definitely recommend anyone to come here for a retreat. The lodge has an amazing atmosphere and Linda and Mike showed some wonderful hospitality.

  • Linda’s BnB is just marvoulus. It’s the perfect stay on a long journey from Picton to Christchurch. Peaceful and quit, not like most campgrounds based right next to the highway. Great, eco friendly accomodation with a lot of detail reminding you of what the Staging Post is and was all about. Thank so much Linda and Mike.

  • A great place to stay during the trip north/south!

    Håkan2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • That was one of the best stays I have ever had, also compared to hotels etc. The hosts were very nice and warm people who took care of everything and welcomed us very nicely and also visited us often and gave tips. The accommodation is a nice house in the middle of the country. No "big city stress" or anything. You have complete peace and you feel very well cared for here. We would have preferred to spend a few more nights here, but unfortunately we have to keep going. The equipment and size of the rooms including the kitchen is great. Mattresses are maybe a little too soft and it looks a bit hard when lying on the "slatted frame", but that was not a problem for us. The environment was simply breathtaking. We would stay here again and again!

    Pascal2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Linda and Mike have a tranquil secluded spot that suited us to stay at when we wanted a place near-ish to Hanmer, but away from the hustle. It’s simple and rustic, but spend some time on the deck in the sun with a book, with the fantails, and life feels good. The fire was always going when we returned, and the hosts kind and warm hearted. Lots of interesting old coaches and blacksmith equipment to keep the children amused. If you’re happy with cosy and full of character over shiny and new, this is a nice spot.

• Pip, Hamish & their two little girls were such lovely hosts. They turned our stay into an unforgettable experience with lots of peace and quiet time. No internet, no cell reception, but lots of animals and nature around to enjoy some proper quality time with your friends/ family. It was very relaxing and we’ll definitely come back next time! It’s a true “slice of heaven”!

  • One of our favourite AirBnB stays ever. A modern, comfortable warm space in a tranquil rural setting. Everything was perfect. Moira was really nice and a great host. We also really enjoyed the restaurant at the hotel next door - excellent meals and desserts! We liked staying here and driving to the hot pools much more than the half dozen places we’ve stayed at in Hamner springs over the years. We’ll be back!
