  • This a beautiful rural home. You enter through the basement doors so you can come and go as you please without bothering anyone. My room had a private shower and bath, a microwave and refrigerator and she even provided paper plates and plastic silverware. Great value, great host, perfect place to stay if you’re in the area.

  • Dianna and Donnie are awesome and gracious host! Their home is just amazing! Dianna is super responsive and her home is spotless! The night we arrived we wanted to sit out on the porch and enjoy the cool night air by a fire. They immediately and graciously provided a quiet corner on their porch, the wood and their chiminea for the fire. This was not something that was included but they were gracious enough to make it happen for us. Everything was more than I expected. I would go back in a heartbeat! We went back and forth to Harpers Ferry West Virginia (which is amazing) and the drive was not bad at all. I have to admit that the narrow, winding and hilly roads are not what I am used to. But it was a cool and adventurous change from the flat terrain of Southern New Jersey.

  • Clean , nice place.

  • This was my first AirBnB experience and it was great. Everything in the description was accurate. Very nice and clean space, plenty of room, not cramped. The private entrance made coming and going a breeze. The only negative thing I could say about my stay is the internet isn’t the best, but that is listed in the description so I knew it going into my stay. It is in a beautiful location and I saw wildlife on my way to and from work every day. I highly recommend staying with Dianna

    Shane2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • The overall experience was spectacular. The grounds are like having your own private park. The hosts were amazing and should be airbnb ambassadors. If your going to the Winchester area this is the place to stay!!!!!

  • I highly recommend this Airbnb. You would not be disappointed with the hosts, as they go above and beyond for their guests. I’m so glad we booked it! Thank you :)

  • Very clean and great place to stay! Beautiful countryside.

  • Dianna's place was exceptionally clean and comfortable. She was an extremely kind and welcoming host, willing to answer any questions I had and drive me around so I could gain familiarity with area. The location is a bit 'off the beaten path' but still close to restaurants and grocery stores (about a 10 min drive). Wifi can be a bit touch and go but Dianna was so thoughtful and installed cable for my entertainment. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting the Winchester area!

A portion of our home is dated back to the 1740's. Come and relax in the Oak Room and venture out to enjoy the history that our home is surrounded by. Our home is a perfect location; Less than 2 miles to the hospital and several assisted living communities. Only 1.5 miles from Old Town Winchester which boasts of a charming walking mall, coffee shops, boutique stores and a wonderful selection of restaurants. This area is bustling with Farmers Markets and wineries. So much to see.
The Oak Room is located on the second floor of our home. Access to our Kitchen and Laundry Room can be arranged if desired and requested. We have a family cat so if allergies are a problem please keep that in mind. We are a family with two small boys and we love children. With that being said if you are sensitive to noise we will try and be as accommodating as possible. Privacy is key and it is important to us that you feel comfortable.
The atmosphere surrounding our home is quiet. We can direct you to some favorite walking trails, wineries, cider works, breweries, farmers markets and restaurants. Though not the most direct route to Old Town Winchester; we have found ourselves walking our riding bikes in the evening. We are conveniently located near Winchester Medical Center as well as Westminster Canterbury Assisted Living.

The room and amenities were true to the description of the listing, and the setting was more beautiful and restful than I expected. I would definitely stay here again.

  • I had a really nice experience in Dianna’s AirBnb. From the beginning, the communication with her was pleasant and smooth. She has an outstanding generosity and kindness. I am grateful for the 3 nights stay I was on her property. Keep up Dianna. Good job

    Kris2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a nice comfortable night at Dianna’s. The room is huge and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was sparkling clean. Dianna let us use the kitchen and had a fireplace started for us.

  • Dianne was quick to respond and very accommodating. Although she was in the main house most of the time we were there, she was very respectful of our privacy and gave us space (as we tried to be of hers). Her house is very close to where we were going for our holiday plans and made traveling with a dog a million times easier.

  • I had a wonderful time! Everything exceeded my expectations of the place. The cabin was perfect inside and out. It is situated in a peaceful setting with gorgeous views of the mountains. You can breath clean air anywhere you turn. I loved to take walks around the area! Philip, the property Manager, was very welcoming, and always responded quickly to my inquires. I felt welcomed from the beginning to the end. I will definitely be back. If you are looking to have a relaxing week in a little piece of heaven, this is the place to book! (This is a Hidden Jewel).

  • Phillip was very communicative and helpful throughout our stay. We booked the cabin for a work retreat, and it was exactly what we hoped for.

  • Su's place is beautiful and very peaceful . Philip is wonderful host and is always available to help. Su has a great collection of books. I would recommend this place to anybody who is looking for serene place to relax or meditate. Thanks Su and Philip to let me stay at you place. I will hopefully be back next year!

    Surinder2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely amazing and beautiful place to stay. One of the most peaceful areas and a beautiful view to go along with it. Philip was wonderful in making sure we had everything we needed.

    Lauren2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • I was taking a class in the vicinity, and wanted a place for quiet self reflection. The cabin is a bit on the small side and somewhat remote, but very cosy and private. Waking up each day to watch the sun rise over the mountains was icing on the top.

    Nathaniel2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our second time here and we loved this beautiful mountain stay just as much as the first time! If you want privacy, this is the place to stay. If you want fresh mountain air, beautiful sunsets, sunrises, and peace and quiet, you have found the right place in this beautiful mountain and cabin. My only suggestion is to go slow on the gravel roads (15mph)...I was lovingly chastised for kicking up too much dust, by an elderly gentleman, and he got no argument from me, as he was 100% right. I was low on gas (should have gotten it when we were in town the night before) so was in a hurry to get to a gas station. I am glad he stopped me as I only hope to be surrounded by love on this mountain. The wildlife was wonderful to see...bucks, does, and fawn were a daily occurence. Cannot say enough about this wonderful place, and the host, Phillip, is such a kind soul, and such a joy to talk to. He is very prompt in his replies and even stops in once a week to see how you are enjoying your stay. This wonderful cabin is 5 star for it's beautiful scenery, serenity, and peace.

  • Gorgeous little cabin tucked away in the beautiful "Wild and Wonderful" mountains of West Virginia. It was the perfect spot for a 2nd honeymoon, secluded and romantic! The view is absolutely breathtaking. Location Location Location.... complete and total "Zen." We overpacked, as there are so many amenities we didn't need a fraction of the items that we brought with us. The cabin is Pristine and includes everything imaginable; it is extremely well appointed and stocked to: live, cook, relax, sleep, and bathe. Our host Philip made our experience truly memorable. He greeted us with a big smile and a bigger basket packed with an assortment of fruits, cheese and crackers, he is such a sweet and caring host! Check-in was seamless. Philip took the time to show us what we needed to know on how to operate everything. If you enjoy wildlife this is the place for you. It is located on a dead end road on top of a mountain. Deer are everywhere!! We were sitting on our covered front porch watching families (a herd) grazing, Bucks, Does and an abundant amount of fawns. We saw Fox Eagles Hawks.... so amazing. The pictures do not do this cabin justice. We could easily see several mountain ranges away and a blazing sunset every evening. One afternoon we saw a storm approaching approximately 50 miles away, what a sight to behold mother nature arriving, the view kept changing as the moments were ticking by. A tourist hint: a must see in the area is located in Romney West Virginia The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad Train tour. Tip: Spring for the 1st class ticket you will get an incredible meal prepared by a chef comfortable seating and air conditioning as well as access to the entire train. We would like to thank our host Philip for this serene memorable week. We can't wait to come back for another week, actually we would like to experience all 4 seasons on top of that West Virginia mountain.

This site is NOT a cabin -- it is a large private family campsite that can accommodate up to 3 or 4 tents & 12 people. Private wooded location. The retreat amenities include a lake w/ beach & beach house, a lake front wood fired sauna, swimming, kayaks, canoe, volleyball, bon-fire pits, fishing, creeks, a huge covered dance & concert pavilion (games otherwise), dining hall (with games), hiking / scenery. Firewood included. Brick & mortar bathrooms and hot showers nearby at Dining Hall area.
A large and very private family campsite ideal for 4 tents and up to 12 people. A large central firepit with included firewood, a picnic table, built in charcoal grill and some chair seating included. Heavily surrounded by trees all around and creekside trail just below the large private family campsite. A short walk to the creeks and lake as well as shower house and brick and mortar bathrooms over by the dining hall. ------------------------------------------ Park back behind Cacapon and North River cottages parallel to the road (below Slanes Knob and Sandy Ridge).
The nearby town of Capon Bridge (10 minutes away) has: ( ) Farmer's Daughter - a great Farmer's Market / Butcher with wi-fi -- local, sustainably raised animals products and organic/ non-GMO produce, wine, beer... ( ) River House (cafe) -- a cafe with coffee and sweets and evening musical entertainment (Fri/Sat). and several restaurants -- ( ) El Puente Mexican (excellent), ( ) Gregs (diner like, great for breakfast) and ( ) Anthony's Jr. Pizza (excellent sicilian deep dish pizza)... as well as a ( ) Family Dollar, ( ) Dollar General, ( ) 24/7 Liberty Gas and Capon Valley Market convenience and hardware (sandwiches, deli, camp supplies) and ( ) 2 laundry mats.
  • The "Nook" is a great weekend getaway. The site is just separated and wooded enough to make you feel like you're in a private location and the amenities make it a very accommodating. Overall a great place to camp.

    Ben2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • My family and two other families really enjoyed Buffalo gap. The wood fired sauna on the lake was a bit hit, and the kids enjoyed the freedom of going to the game room, the lake, the pavilion. I got a fabulous massage from Barbara (highly recommend!). Another wonderful experience was the hike up nearby Ice Mountain, which needs to be coordinated with a docent -- Buffalo Gap's information describes how to do this. It was a wonderful and relaxing long weekend for us all.

    Alwynne2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Repeat visitor and will continue to go back.

    Todd2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is really such an amazing find! The town is just adorable, and the access to all the camp has to offer (lake, sauna, dining hall) was great. I *highly* recommend arriving during the day as opposed to night due to the secluded nature of the site, and also the lack of cell service in this area. Other than that, the site was perfect and I'd highly recommend it.

  • Nice place for peaceful life... 👍😘👓

    Thrilok2018-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We liked the place. The owner was very thoughtful of us: we arrived under the lengthy rain and the Vincent suggested alternative spots for putting tents. We chose the spot that we booked though. The campsite seems really private and is hidden behind the trees. I would assume trees keep this place in a couple shadow in hot sunny conditions. But had no chance to experience this due to the rainy and cloudy days.

    Leonid2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • wonderful place to have fun with kids! The peace of not having to worry about them crossing roads or getting lost while they have independent, free range fun in the outdoors is invaluable. the cabins mixed with campsites is a great way to combine different groups of friends with different needs. the fun abounds - lovely communal sharing of boats, games, books, sports, fire pits, hiking trails, and suana. the nature is beautiful - rolling hillsides, cool breezes from the surrounding forests, the babbling brook, and fish in the lake were highlights.

    Joy2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about buffalo gap retreat was great! Lots of activities, clean bathrooms and showers, great views, and awesome hospitable hosts! We went camping on a very rainy weekend and Vincent was generous enough to offer refuge from the weather by letting us set up camp under their huge pavilion. We will definitely be camping here again. Oh ya, and the wood-fire sauna was a wonderfully relaxing touch!!

Overlooking a valley in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains and stocked with everything you need for a getaway (towels/linens/full kitchen). Philip, the property caretaker lives nearby and was very communicative/supportive of us as we stayed there. A wonderful place to reflect/getaway; I highly recommend it!

  • Michael’s place is wonderful and he is very responsive. The views are so expansive they are difficult to capture. Set your alarm so you don’t miss sunrise and settle in for the show. Sunsets are also great. The cabin is well equipped, cozy, and clean. The drive up/down the mountain is a fun one. I’d never been to Winchester before; it is a hidden gem. Highly recommend Bonnie Blue for any meal/coffee/snack. Lots of historical sites worth checking out. Thank you, Michael! Looking forward to my next stay.

  • Quick Response’s, Amazing View, Had a great stay!

    Landon2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Michael's cabin was fantastic. The location was perfect for those who want to be secluded but also be close enough to have a quick drive to the bars, restaurants, and nightlife of Winchester. We had a small issue unlocking the front door (through our own making) but Micheal was very quick to answer all of our questions and help us. When we visit Winchester again we will definitely be booking this cabin through Michael.

    Nicholas2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • The view from Michael's place is absolutely incredible. There is a wrap-around deck and large windows with plenty of seating in both areas so there is no shortage of ways to enjoy the view. Inside, the house was very clean and had every amenity that we needed. Highly recommend, we will hopefully be back soon!

    Ian2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's home is absolutely amazing. The sunrise and sunset from the porch are unbelievable with the amazing view. This is a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

  • The cabin was exactly as advertised, with a breathtaking view. The host, Michael was very attentive and quick to respond to any and all questions. Check in was a breeze. This is a great space for a romantic get away.

  • The view from Michael's place is stunning. We were there for a month and enjoyed watching the sunrises and the storms come in; saw a beautiful rainbow one day. If you're looking for a quiet peaceful place to stay, this is it. It's also very comfortable; the beds were good and there were all the amenities we needed.

  • (note: we actually stayed at the North River Cottage, rather than cabin #4, in the same area) The cabin was great! The space was very comfortable, and in a beautiful location. It had everything we needed, and we actually never needed anything from the communal space.

  • Peace and quiet, beautiful landscapes, fun

    Mandy2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. Great value. We really enjoy camping, but this year we had our baby and mother with us so we needed more modern necessities like electricity, a cabin, and kitchen area. We had all of that and more. The lake made for clean swimming. We used the sauna. The kitchen had more than enough equipment. Next time we will stay longer.

    Matthew2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t know where to start from but Vincent is one of the most amazing people ever he was very welcoming and very nice guy he made sure we are comfortable there and I am for sure coming back .

    Mansour2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Cabin 4 is essentially two normal twin size beds and two twin bunk beds, giving you six beds total, and a bathroom. There's also a kitchen table and mini fridge. We stayed with four guys for a bachelor party, and that was really all we needed. There is a very large community kitchen building with a dining room area with couch and table and another fridge as well as a large space to prepare food and cook dishes. Between four cabins, there is a fire pit and charcoal grill. Everyone cooked food in the kitchen or over a fire. Down the hill was a small pond that was very clean and pleasant, and further down was a somewhat larger pond with canoes and a dock in the middle. We fished catch and release, the highlight for the groom was likely catching a catfish. It can be a bit hard to gauge from photos and the abundant description what it will be like, but it's beautiful and peaceful. The camp is about 20 minutes from the nearest restaurants and shopping, which is also about where the nearest cell signal is. Let people you care about know you are almost there when you get to that bit of civilization, as there isn't any beyond it. That is likely what you came for.

    Charles2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay! The camp site is well kept. We found our cabin to be clean and highly functional. We enjoyed making use of the canoe, sauna, and cornhole. We roasted s’mores and cooked on the grill. Everyone was very friendly. We are city girls and so this was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of DC. The campsite is quite peaceful. Just got back and have already recommended to other friends!

  • Great space with even better hosts. Would recommend to anyone wanting some time off the beaten path.

    Laurie2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place! Darrel was very welcoming and friendly when we arrived - he had a fire already going in the fire pit! Would highly recommend for a quiet getaway. Definitely will be coming back in the summer for a different, but I am sure just as great, experience!

    Daniel2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for relaxing and boating. The cabin is charming and has everything you need. And Darrel is a great host. When we arrived he had fires going both outside and in the living room stove, took time to get to know us, and explained how everything worked. we will definitely return in the summer when we can swim.

    Jane2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect. It was off the grid, but also close to a store. It was right on the water, absolutely gorgeous outdoor spaces. The inside was quaint and clean and had everything we needed. The owner was helpful and kind. Beds, Chairs, and spaces were comfortable. We would definitely return to this location and recommend it.

    Sarah2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great getaway for a couple or family with kids, even in the winter! The king bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the wood stove did a great job keeping us warm, and the outdoor spaces gave us a lot of options for enjoying the view of the river (and hearing the sound of the local beaver enjoying a snack). At check-in our host showed us around the property, and gave great tips for local businesses to check out. We had everything we needed to relax, be comfortable, and cook our meals. Who needs cell phone reception when you have board games and nature? A visit here in warmer weather would allow better use of the kayak, river, hammocks, cornhole, badminton court, and outdoor seating. The big movie collection and fire pit are great year-round, and Darrel provided plenty of wood for both outside and the wood stove. Overall a comfortable, quiet, relaxing weekend by the river!

    Hilary2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Darrel is an excellent host. He was responsive, had everything stocked and ready for visitors, and offers a great value. The pictures show you exactly what his place has to offer, so no surprises. Very nice and helpful guy!

    Rick2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Darrel was a wonderful host. The cabin was wonderful, quiet and calm. It rained most of the weekend for us and the covered porch made it enjoyable. We had an intense game of badminton during clearer weather. We will definitely be returning.

  • Wow what can I see Angie’s cabin in the hills of West Virginia is a perfect escape. The views are amazing, the beds are comfortable, and the property sits on five beautifully wooded acres. There is a fire pit outside and a wood stove on the inside. I cannot recommend this cabin enough. In addition to the great views and accommodations, Angie was amazing to work with. She always quickly responded to my questions within minutes. She had great recommendations on where to pick up groceries, eat out, and partake in local activities. Venturing out to the cabin at night can be a bit daunting, as you are in the middle of the hills, but Angie gave perfect directions and helped us every step of the way. Highly recommend you experience the tranquility and nature of this cabin!

  • Angie was an amazing host. She had always quickly responded all my question and made herself available at any time. I also asked for a late checkout and she promptly made it possible. The cabin is cozy and has everything you would need. As other people said, the pictures doesn’t show for real how beautiful the view is. Peaceful place with easy access. I’ll definitely come again!!

  • We just had our third visit to Angie's cabin since last summer so we've got to experience 3 seasons there! It's top of our mind whenever we decide we need to get away for a quiet, secluded, relaxing weekend. We love the location in the woods, the cabin is always clean and we keep the fire roaring the whole time! We absolutely love the coziness of it. And there's a huge pile of chopped wood to keep feeding the fire. Check-in is extremely simple, Angie is a great communicator and very friendly. We'll definitely be back again!

    Allison2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

  • This is an ideal, immaculate, special find of an airbnb. Janice's place is beautifully decorated and shows like a fine hotel. Her property is in a very nice neighborhood of stately homes. We were *spoiled* with touches like snacks, drinks in the fridge, and a great assortment of hot drink choices. I really enjoyed having my favorite tea in the morning! Communication was sweet and timely. My baby enjoyed seeing their very nice dog who does not bark or jump. We hope to stay here again.

A uniquely restored log cabin which predates the civil war but with modern upgrades, nestled in a valley about half way between Winchester VA. and Berkeley Springs WVA. This two bedroom cabin can sleep up to 8 if there were couples or children, but tent camping is available by booking through another ad. We have hosted parties of up to 35, some inside the cabin, but most camping. Separate campsites rent for ($35/night). Special events and parties are also available through a separate ad.
A rustic pre-civil war hunting cabin with certain creature comforts such as a smart TV, Wi-Fi, HVAC, fireplace, BBQ pit, fire pit, satellite radio, bathroom with washer and dryer, and a fully stocked kitchen. Outside burning is only permitted in those two areas and only when risk of forest fire is low. It has 2 bedrooms and a couch, and could sleep up to 9 with 2 guests on an air mattress. Other in-door amenities include a wood burning stove, a small library of the local wildlife, and other classic novels, as well as a DVD player and a DVD library of nearly 300 movies. There is also a cabinet full of board games. Because of the local area, there are lots of fun activities to do year round. Please read other the descriptions of the photos. Please note that the campsite itself is available for rent separately only as an auxiliary in another listing ($35/night) in case a large event were to take place. Both ads would need to be rented in tandem in that case. Please note, renters must be at least 21 years of age to book this property. Also please note, that while this a pet and firearm friendly location, anyone who books at this property who brings firearms or pets are booking at their own risk.
There really isn't any neighborhood, since this cabin is in the middle of nowhere- which, in my opinion is the best part since it is an escape from city life. There is one neighbor who is a close friend, and is available on site in case of emergencies.
  • This was our second trip here and it was just as awesome as the first one. The only down fall the first trip was the bathroom being very tight and small and that is now one the best parts of the cabin. If your looking for an awesome place to get away in a historic and rustic setting I couldn’t imagine a better place. As the first time Anthony was great to deal with last year he was my first Airbnb host and I knew it could be the smooth and easy, and it has been both times!

  • This place is the perfect spot to camp in especially if you need a getaway. Everything feels so relaxed here and they have everything you need in the cabins. The cabin was super clean and the beds really comfy. The lake was fun to swim in and the sauna was fabulous too. Everything was amazing as a whole. I definitely recommend staying here.

  • We had a great stay at Poe Cottage!

    Lynn2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This location is beautiful! I went there with my friend and her two kids (10 and 13) and everyone had a blast. We hiked up the wild berry trail that starts right near the cabins. The firepits were plentiful and easy to use. The lake was small enough to have a friendly communal atmosphere but large enough that it accommodated everyone. Heads up, though. This is a -cabin-. So bring your flannel jammies and, if you have a sensitive back, some extra pillows.

  • Buffalo Gap is a lovely place to spend time in nature. The cabin was clean and the grounds are beautiful. We will definitely be back!

  • Our family loves and adores this place! If we aren't swimming in gorgeous spring feed lake or jumping off the dock, there's plenty of games/ books we borrow at the dining hall, trails to hike, berries to pick, and air hockey to play. Not to mention they added a delicious cafe on site in the dining hall. You really don't need to leave but if you must there are two great towns to explore nearby! They usually have someone playing music and set off amazing fireworks for the fourth of July! Two of the owners also offer massage (additional cost of course but sooo worth it) which I tried this visit by Barb and it was one of the best deep tissues I've ever had! Can't wait to come back!

  • This cabin is an excellent base from which to experience all that the Buffalo Gap Camp has to offer! Our family had stayed at one of the tent camping sites previously, and loved returning to play with the addition of a little extra comfort! The cabin had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and location within the camp was perfect - central to the beach, the mess hall, and the pavilion, with a great fire circle out front. Vincent, Barbara, and camp staff were all very responsive, and gave us quick answers, including about where we might find a good place in town to watch the World Cup match we didn’t want to miss! Our family is already eager for a return trip - thanks!

    Jessica2019-07-03T00:00:00Z
  • Our week stay at the Watercress Cabin at Buffalo Gap was wonderful and relaxing. The cabin had everything we need to prepare our meals. My 8 year old niece got to try her hand at kayaking in the pond. We had a campfire every evening and enjoyed exploring the grounds. Vince, Barbara and the onsite crew were friendly and helpful. Vince even helped us find a docent for the Ice Mountain hike. Buffalo Gap has lots to do onsite but also has easy access to the museums of Winchester and Cedar Creek Battlefield.

  • Nice little cabin. Perfect for families who want a little more public camping experience. Lake/very large pond was great with kayaks and canoes. The sauna / jump into the lake was fun for our teenagers.

We live on a solar powered organic farm in the Shenandoah Valley. We raise chickens, goats, pigs and bees. We have a large garden and small orchard. Our goal is to feed ourselves in a healthy, sustainable way.
We live in a stone house that was built in 1833. The guest cottage is much newer and has lots of modern conveniences...air conditioning, radiant floor heat in the bathroom, cable and WiFi. Please note that the guest cottage has dedicated WiFi, but it’s satellite WiFi, so you won’t be able to stream.
  • Couldn't have asked for a better, more relaxing stay. Beautiful Shenandoah location on a quiet farm, tons of history all around. Such an adorable cottage with a wood-burning stove and vintage touches throughout. Jeana and John are incredible hosts and if you have a dog who loves the outdoors this is the place for you. Can't wait to return - all thumbs up!

  • This was a really fun camping weekend for our family. The shared amenities are really fun -- we loved taking the kayaks and canoes out on the lake, using the lakeside sauna, and playing ping pong, darts, and foosball. It was really convenient to have wood provided for a campfire. It got freezing cold at night, so make sure to bring plenty of blankets and warm clothing in winter as the cabin is not heated. We would love to return!

  • This place was much better than expected, I loved it. It was great for family time and no one bothers you. You can drink outside and at the beach. Very beautiful place, it really makes a campground setting.

  • It is a nice place to do things outside like hiking, corn hole, basketball court, swimming in the lake. I would suggest to get there a bit early in the day so you can explore so see where things are so you know where things are. The shower in the cabin is cold water only there is hot water one but it's located in a different spot. Also there are no air-conditioning in the cabins so the get hot in the day. They are adding some in other not in the one we stayed. This would be a great place to stay in the Fall or Spring. It does have grilling area and fire pit for you that are nice bring you grilling tools and lighter fluid. In the summer it's nicer to cook outside to keep the heat down in the cabin.

  • We have stayed at Buffalo Gap many times. We are always excited to see what new things they are doing. It is a great atmosphere that will help you relax. The scenery is gorgeous and there are lots of things to do there. Fish, swim go in the sauna, play corn hole or ladder ball, shoot some pool, walk the nature trails, or just relax on the beach, your choice. The great thing about all of this is that all the activities don't cost you anything extra. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself. If you have been before go back and see all the changes they have made. the owners are great people who really want you to have a great time there. I will be back there again, more than likely this year if I can fit it in.

  • This was my first time in Capon Bridge. Aside from no cell service with AT&T, it was an amazing stay. We had a blast and love that it’s dog friendly.

  • This is our second trip to Buffalo Gap Retreat. The cabin was wonderful and spacious. I had amended my reservation to include my brother and his family a day before our visit with ease. There were eight of us in the cabin, 4 adults and 4 teens. We had enough space to move around and having 2 bathrooms was fantastic. The kitchen had all the needed utensils and appliances. We had a fantastic time sitting around the campfire. Our favorite part was the free wood for the fires. We also loved swimming and the use of kayaks on the water. The kids loved the various games in the gameroom. All in all I would give our stay a 10 and will return again.

    Melissa2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Buffalo Gap Cottages is a great getaway for anyone who wants to relax and have a peaceful vacation. Great place for the kids to swim and fish at the lake that was on the property. • We had a great time at Buffalo Gap. We spent a week there and made some great memories. We made 3 day trips out to surrounding areas , Washington D.C. , Hershey, Pa. and Berkeley Springs, W. Va. All were great places to visit but everyone’s favorite day was the day we spent not leaving Buffalo Gap. We swam in the lake most of the day, watched a movie in the beach house and then came back to the cabin and built a fire outside in the fire pit, grilled hamburgers on the grill and made s’mores for dessert. That was a real vacation day and was everyone’s favorite. The little town of Capon Bridge has a couple of $ stores and a convenience store where you can get everything you need for your stay at Buffalo Gap. We definitely want to come back and stay again next time we come to West Viriginia.

  • What a great camp site! On a whim we decided to go camping with a bunch of friends and I just found this wonderful gem of a space! About 15 of us ended up going and we had a wonderful time! Slightly rustic, but with easily accessible amenities... we got to try out some of our new camping equipment without worry of fail! The beautiful property has a winding creek and is just really charming an magical. Sleeping with the sound of the creek right next to you was a wonderful experience! The small lake is safe, easy to swim, and fun to boat around. We all very much enjoyed the wood fires sauna as well. We were just a bunch of single adults but we could see how this would be a wonderful place to bring kids as well! We will DEFINITELY be returning!!

  • We rented out the large private island campsite on Sept 21-22, 2019. We had a large group of teenagers celebrating a birthday. We absolutely loved every aspect of the campground! The lake was gorgeous and had kayaks and boats for your use. The sand volleyball court next to the lake was so much fun! We had plenty of wood at the site ready for s’mores along a beautiful creek making this campsite memorable. Everything about this place was wonderful, it has everything you need and made for a great, fun weekend for everyone. We’ll definitely be back!!

  • Beautiful place

    Alice2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in one of the cabins with a group of 4. It's a beautiful, remote and quite environment with plenty things to do. We enjoyed the sauna, the lake, playing games and the huge kitchen. It's only a 2-2.5 hour drive from DC and just perfect for the weekend. Would come back here for sure!

This efficiency unit is one of our many rustic cottages located within Buffalo Gap Retreat. With lots of windows and lots of light -- very pleasant affordable option. The retreat amenities include a lake w/ beach & beach house, a lake front wood fired sauna, swimming, kayaks, canoe, volleyball, bon-fire pits, fishing, creeks, a huge covered dance & concert pavilion (games otherwise), dining hall (with games), hiking / scenery. Firewood included. Kitchenettes well stocked in each cabin.
The private North River Cottage is one fourth of a 2000 square foot quadplex -- and through locked doors, it can be doubled in size by renting it's other "half" - the Cacapon Cottage. These two 500 square foot efficiency cottages are separated by a locked door which latches locked from each side but can be opened in co-rented. With 4 twin beds, a full bath, well stocked kitchenette, and lots of windows, a pleasant affordable cottage for smaller groups or individuals or couples. Outdoors - a wonderful stone fire pit, picnic table, and concreted park style charcoal grill, provides a great outdoor hang out area with included firewood.
  • A small quaint world of its own about a quick 5 mile drive along a clear looking stream from the town of Capon Bridge, WV. Be sure to follow the driving directions carefully, so you don't miss any turns especially when driving up after sundown. Buffalo Gap Retreat is surprisingly well maintained and naturally preserved to make it a true 'among the woods' experience. Though we were there only for the night, the cottage was clean, cozy and convenient to use. I recommend staying here for at least two nights and a day to fully take advantage of the awesome recreational activities on-site. Perfect for the Fall months, to take in the colors, soak in the sun and breathe in some crisp mountain air.

  • The cabin we chose did not have ac or a tv, but we wanted to get away and was there at the time we liked the windows open and listen to the wildlife. The cabin had all the basic essentials needed, the gem is the property, sauna, lake, cafe and trails and so much more. The people there go above and beyond, to ensure that everything is in order and just a wonderful escape from a hectic work week in the city. They also enforce quiet hours between 10 PM to 8 AM. Also, if you own more than two dogs it is difficult to find a place to stay and this place was amazing, lots of places to walk the dogs and let them sniff around and stretch out. Definitely would recommend this place.

  • Awesome place to chill, slow down and be in nature. The lake is perfect for kids and the scenery is beautiful. The only disappointment was the cafe was not open.

    Sarah2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place was very relaxing and we loved the beach. Perfect for our whole family. The kids and I relaxed on the beach and splashed in the water while my husband fished. Highly recommend! We will definitely be back!

  • Phenomenal grounds and hosts! The hosts went out of their way to ensure all their guests were accommodated .

  • This was the first time been there so wasn't sure what to expect. It was a beautiful setting, although the weather the best rainy and cool so we didn't get to enjoy a lot of the activities but we can't control the weather. We all had a wonderful time!! The fire pit, grill...was an added bonus. I highly recommend it if you enjoy the great outdoors! We had one of the two bedrooms, two bath cottages--The Laurel and me up to everyones expectations. Thanks Again, Chet

  • Great week-end gate away very close to DC took us about 2.5 hrs. Vincent was very nice and answered any questions I had right away. Very hidden location, the cabins really has everything you need to cook and prepared your meals (plates, pots, coffee marker, toaster oven, utensils, mini fridge, and much more than what I expected.). Also they just opened a cafe on-site for sandwiches, salads, and fruit smoothies, coffee was very good.

Very short walk from a Buddhist society. On 5 1/2 acres with creek on property. We are smokers, but only smoke outside and would like guests to do the same. The home is heated by a woodstove, you can use the electric heater in your room as well though. We work online and are home most days. There is only one bathroom, and it's shared. There is no washer or dryer.

  • This is an amazing place - sauna on the water, hiking, kitchen, firewood, and more. It’s an incredible value and in a beautiful spot. Definitely going back. Just remember to bring warm bedding since there is no heat!

  • The place was nice. I wasn't expecting the steep slope to the cabin, but it was not problem. The kitchen cabin was great. Everyone had fun in the lake with the kayaks, canoes, floaties, and playing volleyball. It was nice to be somewhere where we did not have to leave the site for anything. Everyone who went with me thought it was really fun and they all want to go back!

  • Lots of acreage to explore. My dog loved walking the trails and taking dips in the creek/lake. Plenty of space between cabins/people. Everyone I ran into greeted me and was pleasant.

  • Rustic cabin stay, reminded me of a summer camp...which it was back in the 60's I think! The spring fed lake was clean, had kayaks, volleyball, etc. There's a large pavilion with other games to play. Fire pit & grills ready to use. Plenty of seating. Fantastic place in the mountains to really get away from everything. Note that quite a bit of hills with no ramps, no reception or wifi, so it's a nice way to force everyone off their devices. The view of the mountains was spectacular!

    Rebecca2018-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was a neat airbnb. an old camp for kids turned cool hide out for guests and families private lake, fun games. wish we could have stayed longer. like camping, so bring all you'll need. cabins are clean, dry and perfect temp in mid July.
