The scenery and wildlife of the Loch Awe area is simply outstanding; arguably the best the UK has to offer. Loch Aweside Forest Cabins site is located near Dalavich on the NW shore of stunning Loch Awe, approximately 30 minutes from the west coast of Scotland. It covers an area of nearly 60 acres with a selection of privately owned cabins distributed throughout, on large, well spaced & private forest, woodland and loch side plots. This magical, mythical area is steeped in history and offers amazing scenery and tranquillity with an abundance of walks, cycle routes and places to visit and explore. The wildlife in the area is amongst the most abundant in the UK, with Osprey, Sea Eagle, Golden Eagle, Pine Marten, Red Squirrel, Red, Roe and Sika Deer and much more present. The loch itself, with its many islands, 5 castle ruins, cranogs and bays, is one of the prettiest, least spoiled in Scotland and offers legendary fishing (free of charge to cabin owners) and outstanding outdoor adventure. • Leave those smart gadgets at home and relax in superb natural surroundings with the beautiful loch Awe gentle waves swilling on the beach a few yards away, sit in the beautiful authentic hot tub watching the beautiful clear night skies, very romantic location or family hub to go and explore!

  • We had a fabulous pre Christmas break at Lochside. The lodge was even better than I hoped. I had worried that we might be overdoing it with 6 plus a dog but it is deceptively spacious and very well equipped. I had no problem cooking a Christmas dinner here. The location is stunning and we spent many hours in the hot tub overlooking the loch even when it snowed on us! Well worth the 7 hours drive

  • Wonderful cabin right on the loch. The hot tub was fab and natural stone fire pit fantastic. The views from the upstairs bedroom were breath taking to wake up to every morning. Enjoyed every minute of our stay and cant wait to go back. Well worth the 9 hour journey from london! The locals were friendly, in the villiage shop/cafe and community bar. The food was great too. Not one single complaint! Could not have had a more peaceful fabulous holiday.

  • This is a very comfortable get away from it all log cabin. The setting is wonderful right on the side of wonderful Loch Awe with rolling hills backdrop. The hot tub is wonderful a true treat. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils. the owner left thoughtful extras midge spray, tips on how to stop them attacking. shelve full of books and games. it was sparkling clean and we felt at home straight away. The road to it is long and narrow (not that it bothered us) but it is well worth it.

  • A fantastic stay in a beautiful setting in a cosy and we'll equipped lodge! The lodge is quite remote as the site is about half an hour along a single track road but there is a small village with post office and a bar about a ten minute walk away. The lodge was fantastic literally a stone's throw away from the loch and so peaceful and relaxing couldn't hear one bit of road or engine noise just perfect. The sky and WiFi worked great and I had full 4G signal whilst I was there too. The wildlife was great seen a multitude of things including seeing a white tailed eagle fishing in the distance and lots of small birds and ducks. The hot tub was amazing as was the wood burning stove! The sleep was comfortable and the sunrises were out of this world! Couldn't think of a better place to propose to my partner (now fiancée) and will definitely be return visitors!

  • Lovely location for a frosty starlit hot tub retreat. Beautiful loch, with morning mist lifting to slowly reveal the stunning views and a very engaging flock of ducks working the shoreline. When inside, we stayed toasty warm with the wood-stove. Very enjoyable weekend which we topped off with a coffee at the charming Dalavich Village Shop before heading home. Thanks Sonja and Steve!

  • The hot tub was a bit of a faff but was amazing when it heated up! Does require lots of logs so make sure to request about 3 bags per day to cover the fireplace inside and using the hot tub all day. Beautiful area, Loch Awe was visible from the cabin and the space was huge. Kitchen was outstanding and there was all the cleaning equipment provided. loads of gorgeous walks around too with tyre swings and bbq’s! The best lodge I’ve ever visited in Scotland and really hope to be back!

  • My family and I had a wonderful time at fern lodge. It was cosy and had everything we needed for the weekend. Sonja was great when we spoke and nothing was too much trouble. We ate at the local cafe/shop for lunch and the food was amazing. I’d also read in the reviews about the black rock takeaway too so we tried that for dinner and we were not disappointed. The Loch is stunning, even the drive up is beautiful. We would def visit again.

Newly refurbished, Kilchurn is a delightful log cabin with a real log fire and a relaxing private wood-fired hot tub (now included), situated on the western shore of Loch Awe with a truly marvellous view over the water.
Kilchurn is a delightful log cabin situated on the western shore of Loch Awe with a truly magnificent view. The cabin is fully self-catering, no host is present other than the nearby caretaker and you have the place to yourselves. Recently modernised in a fantastic loch-side location, the interior comprises an open-plan living room/kitchen area offering a magnificent view of the loch with a covered balcony, two bedrooms and a shower room/toilet, accommodating 4 guests. The cabin is situated in the Dalavich Chalet Park with wide-open spaces between cabins, guaranteeing peace and quiet even during busy periods. The park is within the Inverliever Forest which offers wonderful country walks in the immediate vicinity, as well as access to fishing, cycling, sailing and of course the rich wildlife. This unique cabin is perfect for a young family or for couples to enjoy a relaxing holiday in a unforgettable location. Dalavich is central to the many and varied attractions in Argyll, such as The Avich Falls, Invarary Castle, Oban and its famous distillery. It also offers a convenience store for amenities and basic groceries, and a social club/bar which serves alcohol and hot meals, but please bear in mind that it is relatively remote, and if you require a more extensive range of amenities, you must drive 45 minutes to Oban. A car is highly recommended to stay here, but there are regular buses which run from Glasgow to Oban, and Oban to Dalavich.
Dalavich (Scottish Gaelic: Dail Abhaich) is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies on the western bank of Loch Awe and has a population of around 70. (It is located 30 miles from the main town and port of Oban, connected by the villages of Kilchreanan and Taynuilt) "Dalavich" is Gaelic in origin and means "meadows/valley of the River Avich". The village was established by the Forestry Commission in 1952 to facilitate timber operations in the surrounding Inverliever forest. This was labour-intensive and horses were used to extract timber from the forest - it is possible to get a glimpse of this history by visiting the "old stables" which contain material from this epoch. Nowadays, a number of villagers still earn their living directly from forestry. Inverliever forest was acquired by HM Officer of Woods in 1907 and was one of the original "State Forests". In September 1919, the Forestry Act came into force, setting up the Forestry Commission and giving it responsibility for woods in England, Scotland and Wales. The basis of forestry policy in the 1920s was the need to rebuild and maintain a strategic timber reserve. As the surrounding area could not supply adequate labour, the forestry village at Dalavich was established. In 1971, Inverinan forest was added to Inverliever. There are forest walks and cycle routes maintained by the Forestry Commission nearby, and houses or cabins are available for tourists. Popular forest walks include the Dalavich Oakwood Trail (where red squirrel, pine marten, woodpeckers and many other woodland inhabitants may be seen), and the Avich Falls; there are many more nature trails, e.g. to Otter Point. There is a church, a small shop and cafe with a part-time Post Office. There is also a social club as part of the community centre, the village also hosted a primary school but this was closed in 1997 due to an insufficient number of pupils. In 1997 there was only 1 pupil. There is boat hire and fishing permits can be bought locally. Some of the largest trout caught in Europe have come from Loch Awe.

We loved the space, it was clean, well kept and George was also a fantastic host, keeping us informed about the weather (as we had travelled from 6 hours away). He is very quick at responding to queries and this alone made us feel welcome. We would definitely return to his cabin to spend longer there as we only had 2 nights.

  • Worth the extra cost to have hot tub preheated for arrival. Logs available from housekeeper. We brought a few bags of our own which was quickly used in hot tub and logburner so had to purchase more at £8 a net.

    Amanda2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely, quirky little place with lots to do and explore! The cabin was a cozy escape from reality that I would recommend to anyone and the hot tub was a magic little touch.

  • If you’re after a rustic cabin holiday in a beautiful location then this is the place for you! The cabin itself is just stunning, the facilities are good too. The location is very remote which is just what we were after. It was just perfect! We had a slight issue with the hot tub which was resolved quickly. We would not hesitate to return again next year, in fact it’s a must!

    Sara2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • A well-equipped log cabin in a peaceful location. The place was clean and ready for us. There was good communication between us and the hosts.

    Bogumila2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy wooden cabin. The cabin is located about 20-30 mins along a country road along with multiple other cabins. The cabin is very well equipped, cosy and is a great escape from city life. The cabin has a great log burner inside and good sized wood fired hot tub outside. There is a small shop nearby for essentials and a lot of nice short walks nearby. The communication with the booking was great and check in was straight forward and flexible. We really enjoyed our stay here.

  • Stayed for one night with my boyfriend and I couldn’t fault the place! Hosts were super helpful when we struggled to find the place - due to our own fault as we didn’t arrive till late so was hard to read signs! Caroline came out and guided us to our parking spot and gave us a quick tour. The Nook itself is super quirky and unique, loved it and the hot tub was great! Highly recommend:)

  • This was the second time staying at Robbie's. As the last time it was great. It's good value, clean and spacious enough for 3/4 ppl. It's quiet and has everything you need. Robbie's always quick with communication too. Local pub and restaurant the whistlefield inn are also friendly and fairly priced. Can't recommend Robbie's place enough.

    Corinne2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at the Argyll Retreat was amazing. Lots of forest walks in the area, which we love. The Ardkinglas Woodland Garden and the Benmore Botanical Garden are both worth a visit too. Robbie was quick to respond and helped us with any questions we had. Although we didn't get a chance to meet him, he made us feel very welcome. Thanks for a great week, Robbie!

  • Argyll retreat is a cosy cabin in a brilliant location and despite the weather (wind, rain and even snow) we felt safe and warm in the cabin. It's a great base to explore the Cowal peninsula and beyond.

  • Robbies place is a great find. Lovely little cabin, nice touches, gorgeous area. We will definately be back next year

  • Great lodge, really good value. We had a really lovely time here.

    Joe2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying in Argyll Retreat. It's perfectly located for great mountain biking and walking. Benmore gardens nearby are amazing and the scenery all around is just gorgeous. The cabin is warm and cosy and was a good size for the two of us. It really couldn't be in a better situation as you can walk straight out into the forest and see the red squirrels and other delights.

    Stephanie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a short but wonderful stay at the lodge. It is located at the edge of the forest, so it's just a few steps to be in beautiful nature that we wish we had more time to explore. The loch is a stinking view. There's a very close by bus stop, that connects to the town for getting supplies or further connections (though you need to keep a eye on the sparse schedule). The lodge had everything we needed, was clean, silent and very cozy. Robbie, the host, was always quick to respond to requests, and even helped us with tips of what to see nearby. We hope to visit the Argyll Retreat Lodge again, and will add a few more days, as there's much more to see.

  • We love The Argyll Retreat!! Booked this lovely wee cabin for my 30th birthday to get away into our highlands and explore with our wee dog. Robbie was amazing and gave us clear directions on where to find the cabin, his communication was fast and beyond lovely. The cabin it’s self is beautiful, well decorated with cute wee touches and very clean! The bed was very comfortable and the lounge area is very relaxing...especially when we found the blanket box! The cabin has everything you need and more. There’s a wee pub/restaurant just a short walk away! (Although We bought local produce the whole weekend and had dinner in the cabin, the kitchen is perfect to cook in as it has all the utensils you need!) It’s not very far from all the beautiful Lochs that surround the area and wee towns to have a look around. We will definitely be visiting the cabin again, a fantastic host and a beautiful stay! Thank you for making my 30th special to me and my wee family! Xxx

A 3 bedroom barn conversion adjacent to Leanach Farm. Rural charm with modern facilities. "The back decking area was private and overlooked spectacular views with a regular buzzard soaring overhead daily! Lovely and peaceful, had time to relax and draw." Guest review August 2017
The location The North of Cowal is defined by Loch Fyne on the west and Loch Long on the east of Cowal. It is quite distinctively rugged with a feeling of great remoteness, yet easily accessed being just over an hour from Glasgow via the scenic drive along the shores of Loch Lomond and up over the Rest-and-be-Thankful by the Arrochar Alps. The cottage is well placed for enjoying a rural holiday, at the same time as being a relaxing and comfortable base from which to tour the scenic Cowal Peninsula, or further afield to Inveraray, Oban and Glencoe. 3 miles south of Strachur village and just off the road to the Isle of Bute ferry. 3 miles from Inver, a small, characterful restaurant on the shores of Loch Fyne. introducing fyne byre cottage Who can resist a barn conversation? Who can resist a barn conversion done my an interior designer? Two years of work has resulted in a thoughtful and beautifully renovated farm building, available from the summer of 2017 as a quality holiday let. You arrive at the cottage via the shared gate with Leanach Farmhouse (not a working farm). Parking to the front of the cottage. This is where you will be spending most of your time outside. A delight to relax on the raised deck area with views over the fields to the hills. Completely private, no houses, no roads, no traffic – bliss. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars to watch the bird life. The lounge has a TV with SKY package, a multi fuel stove, logs provided, as well as a large comfortable sofa and a swivel chair. Hardwood flooring throughout the cottage. The Old Post Office Cottage in Furnace on the shores of Loch Fyne provides very comfortable family accommodation comprising an open plan lounge/dining/kitchen, garden/family room, 3 bedrooms, family bathroom, WC and utility area. Of traditional stone build dating from the early 1800s, it is ideally located for exploring Argyll, one of Scotland’s most beautiful areas with Inveraray to the north, Crinan and Kilmartin to the south (Sunday Times July 14th 2019).
The cottage is entered through the utility room to an open plan kitchen and breakfast bar with stools/sitting area. The dining area is accessed through the TV and DVD area leading on to the garden/family room with double doors to the back private garden. The bathroom with wc, whb, bath with electric power shower over bath is located on the ground floor with a further wc and whb on the upper floor. A spiral stairs lead to the first floor, which comprises a double room with king size bed, a twin room and a third bedroom with bunkbeds. Travel cot and high chair are available. There is oil fired central heating throughout. Modern kitchen with toaster, kettle, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric cooker. Iron Hairdryers Parking for two cars No smoking One dog is welcome on request - £30. We ask that dogs are not allowed on the furniture. Shopping: small grocery store in the village with more facilities at Inveraray.
The Cottage is spoilt by the wealth of history and natural beauty in the surrounding area. There is an abundance of superb walks and beaches within easy reach. The rolling hills, fields and coastline provide endless inspiration to artists and craftspeople. Furnace village has a post office/general store and a children's play area. Loch Fyne is home to dolphins and seals as well as the occasional summer sighting of basking sharks. There are many local attractions and you can even tour the Isles - ferries from Oban. Look back into Scottish History to the standing stones and circles of Kilmartin Glen. Crinan is around 20 miles south also beautiful to visit and at the head of the famous canal as described in the Sunday Times July 14th 2019. Argyll has some of the most picturesque villages and scenery in Scotland and should be explored at the earliest opportunity. Around Furnace you have Inveraray, Loch Lomond, Oban and Lochgilphead, each with individual character and secrets to be explored. The infamous Loch Fyne Oysters is close at hand. Inveraray boasts tourist attractions, walks, architecture and very own Castle with an abundance of restaurants, pubs, craft and souvenir shops and evan an art gallery. In Cairndow, Ardkinglas Estate has its own Robert Lorimer designed Mansion House and Woodland Gardens. There's also a brewery in Cairndow, Fyne Ales, where tours and tastings can be arranged. A perfect base from which to explore all the attractions and activities this area has to offer. An hours drive from Glasgow and two from Edinburgh. Public transport services nearby providing excellent and hassle free links to two of Scotland’s major cities - Glasgow and Edinburgh.
  • Lovely little cottage in the quiet village of Furnace. Beautifully presented with everything you can think of catered for. Clean, cozy, quaint. Not much in the village itself but a good base from which to explore the area. The cottage is well situated on the Main Street near the local shop and school. We travelled as an extended family group and the cottage met all of our needs.

    Claire2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay. Interestingly decorated and cozy. Large kitchen and living room as a winter garden. A large van will easily fit on the parking spot. Very good location, close to the main road. Near a small shop with basic items, you can also eat something. Great contact with the host. I heartily recommend.

    Tomasz2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely home this is with so many special touches . The house is spotlessly clean and on a perfect position to explore the lochs. Inveraray just down the road is beautiful really quaint. I would really recommend you all to try this property you won’t be disappointed .

    Derek2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful place . Go to old post cottage without hesitation.

    Celine2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • The spacious cottage is the perfect place for a (family) holiday in a quiet environment to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Highlands. The place is well-furnished and equipped with everything you need. The central heating makes stays during cold weather cosy. The area offers a lot of things to explore, making Furnace a good starting point for trips within Argyll and beyond. There is direct access to beautiful trails (cross the bridge and keep left) for shorts walks or longer hikes. I spent a week in October with my wife and our three kids in Justine's cottage and can really recommend it. There is a small shop in the village and other stores/supermarkets in reasonable distances (Inveraray and Lochgilphead).

    Joachim2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • In the historic village of Furnace it is a beautiful and relaxing space with a large garden room, dining area, TV space with freeview via Sky and a large kitchen. My job requires that I have access to broadband and often when I come to Scotland this is a bit hit and miss but I had no issues. The cottage has Wi-Fi which was solid throughout the house and the internet connection was fine although I didn't have to use it in anger The cottage is about eight miles from Inveraray and fifteen miles from Lochgilphead. It is an easy drive to both. There is a co-op in Inveraray and a Tesco Express which opens until midnight in Lochgilphead and the village has a small post office which has a very limited stock of groceries. Oban is an hour away, Campbelltown is 90 minutes and there are plenty of walks, the village itself has it's own "Furnace Walk" . Although the village is on the side of the loch, you can't see the loch from the cottage, but a short walk to the south edge of the village will take you down to a stony pebble beach with fantastic views down Loch Fyne. Highly recommended whether you want a quiet, relaxing space to chill and recharge or need a family base to see the Western Highlands and Kintyre Peninsula.

    Ian2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time staying at the Old Post Office. We found it cosy and comfortable with lots of space to stretch out after a day walking or exploring. It was really well equipped and had everything we needed including the garden room and outside seating for sunny days (yes we had some!). Plus lots of cosy blankets and Sky Q was was a surprise bonus for evenings in. It was our first family visit to Scotland - we will definitely be back!

    Sally2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • The old post office cottage is a marvellous place to stay to explore the beautiful Argyll and beyond! The cottage is home from home and has everything you could possibly need. Washing machine, dish washer, oven, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, ample plates, bowls and cutlery. The beds are new and comfy, there is a tv with dvd player and sky television to keep the kids amused. We especially enjoyed the room at the back, reading a book whilst the rain poured down looking out at the large garden all in all a wonderful place to stay.

Simple, Comfy and Welcoming room in cottage beside Loch Fyne. This listing is complimentary to my other listing of "Tigh Beag: Simple, Comfy and Welcoming". It lists an extra double bedroom (with King-size bed) in my cottage - available to accommodate extra guests attending local events.
Double room with King-size bed. Simple furniture - walls decorated with interesting pieces of driftwood. Wake up to views over the loch. Shower room. Bathroom with bath-tub. Kitchen with ingredients for a simple breakfast - help yourself. Or share a pot of my 'very excellent' traditional porridge made with steel-cut pinhead oatmeal. Use the kitchen to cook, or perhaps head out to Inveraray for a wide selection of eating places.
This old fisherman's cottage is about 1 mile south of Furnace. In Furnace there is a Village Store/Post Office. The situation of Tigh Beag is convenient with easy access from the A83 - plenty of parking space in a private driveway. A bonus is the access to the loch shore - lots of wonderful granite boulders, seaweed ...... rugged. Interesting in all weather - crashing storms or flat, glassy calm AND always changing. Of course you can always enjoy watching the ever changing scenery from the comfort of an easychair in the conservatory.
  • Fiona was the Perfect Host! From the lovely welcome to her home, the tea times or the truly Scottish porridge - everything was perfect! The views from the house were incredible! I highly recommend her!

  • Fiona is a Super Super Host. Staying at her place was such a beautiful unique memorable experience. Location is just amazing right in front of the loch with greenery all around. Her breakfast porridge made with some special grains was delicious. And Fiona was so kind to invite us for dinner with her friends. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend if you are planning to stay around Arrochar, Furnace.

  • We had a great time at Fiona! We found easily thanks to the explanations, then we came across a house even more beautiful than in photo. We enjoyed eating and eating on the veranda with a great view. We then had dessert on the edge of Loch, it was magic! The bedding is even better than at home, it was a big room with the view too and we had our bathroom with everything we needed. We were greeted by a truly charming, dynamic, caring person who lovingly prepared an excellent homemade porridge. A place and a unique person that I advise everyone to discover!

  • Super hosts! The room was cozy and full of teas, snacks and fruit. Great bathroom with a tub. Loved the many vegan options at breakfast! Russel gave us a lift to the busstop in the morning, which saved us an hour of walking in to town. Would definitely stay here again!

  • Just lovely. A wonderful one night stay. We came for a meal at Inver, which only was a short taxi ride away. And as lovely as the meal was, our stay with Kate and Russell was just as memorable. Really welcoming and friendly. The views are just stunning. The room was great. Useful local tips. And after all the rich food at Inver, a light and simple breakfast was just what we needed. Plus you must get a quick tour around their garden and greenhouse! Highly recommended, and we’ll be back again if we can.

  • A lovely home with amazing surroundings. We all loved everything about our stay and would recommend this place to everybody. The fact that our dogs had space to run around in the garden while we soaked up the sun on the decking added to our brilliant stay.

  • Patsy calls her house " a gem", and that is precisely what it is. It has everything that you could wish for from a holiday home in the Highlands, a fully equipped kitchen, great bedrooms, a most lovely winter garden; and you can feel how this house is dear to her, and how much care she has put into making it special. We could easily have stayed a lot longer .... and will definitely be back if we go back to Argyll one day.

    Rolf2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • My mum, dad, sister and I spent an amazing three nights in this beautiful bungalow. The house was sparkling clean and well-equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. Patsy was absolutely brilliant every step of the way in booking this trip and replied to any questions I had very quickly. Thank you for being so welcoming and for letting us enjoy our time in your lovely cottage! We will definitely be returning!

  • We want to come back! This was a privileged stay in a very comfortable, stylish abode with high quality furnishings (down to the cutlery!). The glass room was welcoming considering we came during early May. It was very peaceful watching the sheep go back and forth in the green fields behind the home. The wood burning stove is easy to use for the experienced. The truck traffic is easy to ignore. Inveraray isn't far; with good coffee (Campbell Coffee), dinner (at The George) and artisan shops.

    Angela2019-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is great. Beautiful conservatory with lots fury neighbors out the back :) The place was spotless and very well equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen. We used the wood burner every night. Very nice drives from Furnace to the attractions in the area. Highly recommend staying here.

  • An idyllic retreat, this charming 19th century cottage is tucked away in the countryside of Balliemeanoch, overlooking forest and the River Cur. Being a few minutes drive from a main road, its easily accessible by car, yet far enough removed that you’re away from the noise of civilisation. The cottage has been beautifully updated and is well equipped with modern conveniences. Fiona’s sensitive approach to the interior has not just retained its original charm, but enhanced it, making it homely, functional and stylish. After a long day of driving or walking, the front room and cosy wood fire made for a very inviting space to unwind in. Fiona was a very considerate and attentive host. We were never left with any questions and upon arrival we were greeted with a wonderful welcome package and a helpful guide to the cottage and recommendations for the local area. If you’re looking for a base to explore Argyll and its surrounds, or else a cosy and relaxing escape from a busy life, look no further. I’ll not soon forget resting in front of the cosy fire, listening to the gentle patter of snow on the windows and calls of Tawny Owls from the nearby forest. Truly special. Thank you so much for your hospitality Fiona and hope to stay again soon!

    Tom2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona prepared us a cottage where we felt right at home! Isolated, beautiful walks, despite the horrible weather of these few days, it was a great stay! The fire was there to keep us warm, we loved it! We come back without hesitation!

    Mélanie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Tucked on the edge of a forest with great running tracks and a hill-fed river running nearby, this beautiful wee cottage is a hidden gem. It manages to combine an uncluttered appearance with clean, stylish comfort and warmth. The cottage had everything we needed for a self-catered stay. There are facilities nearby (shop, petrol, pub, restaurant) should you want them, but if you don't then this is the place get away from it all and reconvene with yourself and nature. I will definitely be back.

    Morag2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, very cozy! Fiona couldn't have been more helpful with travel advice and tips for local places to visit.

    James2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cottage set in an idyllic location. The place was super clean and well equipped. Fiona is a perfect host...always at hand for advice and very welcoming on arrival. Would love to stay longer next time. Cannot recommend highly enough!

    Jemma2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed at Fiona's lovely cottage for 4 nights. Check in was hassle free via a keybox and she had prepared the cottage perfectly with heaters and had the fire setup ready to be lit. There were enough cooking utensils and kitchenware to cook with which we took advantage of, and there was also a dishwasher! The bedroom we used was spacious and the bed itself was comfortable. The bathroom was good too - especially the powerful shower. The house is private and has private parking too. It's nestled about 2 miles (max) off the main road coming out of Strachur, surrounded by stunning countryside - an absolute joy to wake up to every morning. There are numerous day trips that can be done from this base and Fiona left some really useful information and personal suggestions on things to do in the local area. Some of the things we managed to do: - A trip to the Isle of Bute - A brewery tour at Loch Fyne Ales - A drive to Loch Lomond to hike up Ben Vorlich The house was also equipped with some boardgames which we took full advantage of. Definitely take food with you as there aren't too many big supermarkets nearby but the local shops will have the basics if you do get stuck. Thanks again Fiona.

    Martin2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Communication with Fiona was quick and helpfull before and during our stay. we enjoy the remote location of the cottage, while being very close to the small town (and pub) and the loch, having the possibility to walk in the wood nearby was great. • A lovely lodge in a beautiful setting. A couple of little bits that needed a bit of maintenance in the bathroom, but John was very responsive and did their best to fix in the three nights we were there... given the remote location. All in all, such a wonderful rest break in our travels. Hot tub was spotless and there was everything we needed to feel at home. Thank you!

Traditional stone terraced cottage with outstanding views over Loch Fyne to Castle Lachlan and Inver Cottage. Sleeps four comfortably. The cottage is situated in an ideal location for visiting the Argyll area. Whether you like walking, cycling, sailing or fishing there's something for everyone. Walk in the footsteps of ancient Scottish Kings, cycle along the Crinan Canal or fish on the Loch. Or for something more relaxing, visit Fyne Ales at the top of Loch Fyne and sample their craft beers and visit the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar to taste some exceptional Scottish smoked salmon and oysters. Free slipway for launching small boats / kayaks nearby. The cottage is twelve miles south of Inverarary (Castle/Jail/Whisky/Restaurants/Beer Garden). Lots of easy low level walks and cycling routes nearby. For more demanding walks the Arrochar Alps are forty minutes away (eg The Cobbler). If you have time take a day trip to the islands of Gigha or Arran (brewery and distillery). Visit Oban (and perhaps Mull) or Tarbert (great fish and chips). However, a visit to Kilmarten Glen with its many prehistoric sites and Dunadd Fort is a must and is just a 30 minute drive away. Go further afield and visit Campbeltown or the Mull of Kintyre, made famous in the song by Paul McCartney and Wings. The cottage has recently been extended to include a sitting / dining area adjacent to the kitchen. The cozy lounge has views to the loch and features a modern wood burning stove. Bedroom 1 has a King sized bed with a memory foam mattress with views out to the loch. Look out for the fish farm boats heading south in the morning. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower with 10.5kW electric shower. Recently modernised throughout including new modern electric heaters. Large garden area to front and rear of property. A firepit is available for use on a summer's evening to keep the chill and the midges at bay! On property parking with space for up to two cars. Easy access from Glasgow by bus if not travelling by car.

A beautiful, recently refurbished one-bedroom private stone cottage, The Steading is a self-contained cottage just across the courtyard from our main house. It benefits from a lovely setting amongst the Scottish countryside with glorious views across Loch Fyne, and has many unique features. There is ample private parking directly outside the cottage (spaces for two cars with plenty of extra parking if required) and you are free to enjoy the fields and open spaces around you.
A beautifully converted one-bedroom cottage, with a separate bathroom (with bath & electric shower) and an open plan kitchen/dining/living room (which includes a very large, king sized, sofa bed). Wifi throughout and TVs in both the bedroom and sitting room (with Netflix/Amazon etc). A brand new kitchen with fridge, oven & microwave has been recently installed, with a lovely dining table and room for four or more to eat. We are situated in 15 acres of beautiful untouched Argyll countryside, where wild deer roam freely (you will see them in the gardens and often spot them crossing the drive), with more red squirrels and wild birds than you can shake a stick at, and you may even spot the eagles that often can be seen circling overhead. A haven for wildlife, if you enjoy watching the birds or looking for larger sea life in the Loch, we're happy to lend you a pair of binoculars to help you see more! We are happy to provide equipment for any babies/toddlers and well behaved dogs are welcomed (please enquire before booking).
We are next door to the national trust Crarae Gardens, a 50-acre Himalayan style woodland glen, which is truly spectacular and also has a lovely cafe! Just down the road is the Quarry View Garden Centre, which has a cafe and gift shop, and is a frequently used site for many divers to enjoy the abundance of diving sites in the Loch nearby. If you enjoy beautiful castles, and historic sites, then Inveraray is a wonderful town with lots of Inns and cafes to visit, and a particularly interesting old Jail! Well worth a trip on its own. There is an abundance of wildlife with plenty of signposted walks within easy reach, plus the open hills to explore, so it makes the ideal base to get some well needed fresh air and exercise. We are also a great base to explore Kilmartin Glen, home to some of the world's most significant archaeological landscapes, including standing stones, stone circles and rock art - where the special Kilmartin Museum is well worth a visit. We are an easy journey to both Glasgow and Oban, which is a great point to start any trip on the waters around the West Coast.
  • This is a lovely cottage in a stunning, peaceful setting. Faye is a friendly, efficient and very welcoming host who has thought of everything - the cottage is beautifully furnished and very well equipped, including for dogs! Highly recommended.

It was a perfect base for us to explore the surrounding areas. Highly recommended.

    Scott2019-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Peter & Sai really have thought of everything to make the cottage a home away from home. By far the most equipped kitchen of any airbnb's we had previously used and the board games and useful local information guides came in very handy. Truly lovely hosts who were very approachable and happy to help. The bed was also incredibly comfy and we found the area to be a good base to explore the nearby points of interest. Would definitely stay again should we visit the area in the future.

    Rebecca2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • Peter & Sai are wonderful hosts, their property is the perfect retreat from which to explore this region and enjoy the abundant wildlife. The property is beautifully furnished and immaculately clean, Peter was on hand to show us the property and answer any questions we had, in addition he was able to give us some excellent tips for things to do and see in the local area. The location is ideal for exploring the Cowal Peninsula as well as the Isle of Bute. We will definitely be returning.

  • This is a great place to stay. The room is spacious and furnished with beautiful antique furniture and overlooks the loch. Alison is a warm and generous hostess - giving me a loaf of her freshly made bread to take with me when I left. Kitchen is well stocked with varying food stuffs which I was welcome to use had I wished to cook. Alison's intimate knowledge of the area, having lived there all her life is most welcome as it saved time and, in some cases, money. As a keen and experienced cook she is in an excellent position to advise of eating places. Sadly I went during very inclement weather which does not show off the charm and beauty of the area to it full effect. However during the brief periods of clear skies you can see why it would be good idea to return during summer months to make the most of your stay.

    Amanda2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Alison’s place is absolutely beautiful and in a perfect place for some privacy but also not too far from the closest town she is a wonderful host and I would recommend her to anyone wanting to stay in this area for any amount of time

    Louis2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Alison has an amazing cottage right on Holy Loch. A home away from home experience in one of the most beautiful, tranquil and restful pockets of Argyll. Her home is quirky and full of character, whilst Alison is just as lovely! Alison was so thoughtful and considerate throughout my stay. She ensures her guests feel at home, whilst still leaving you to rest and relax on your own. She is extremely knowledgeable about the area and ensure her guests have access and information to all that is on offer on Cowal Peninsula. The house is close to the water, nearby loads of beautiful walks and views. It was a memorable weekend away, and it wouldn’t have been so if it wasn’t for this Airbnb experience. Thank you so very much. I will definitely be returning :)

    Jess2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Alison´s place was magical, a sanctuary, and felt like home from the beginning. The room was the epitome of cosy, and Alison the most wonderful host I could ever have wished for.

    Melanie2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about this place we cannot fault. The beds are heavenly, the location is perfect, ample parking. Alison’s recommendations about places to go and eat were spot on; we would not have found them otherwise. We will be back without a doubt.

    Harriet2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • A really quirky home, in a great location. It really is a home from home kind of place. Alison provides lots of practical, helpful items and everything you could possibly need is there! We would like to have stayed longer, and will definitely be back.

Beautiful traditional fisherman’s cottage on the banks of Loch Fyne. Perfect location to explore the rugged beauty of the west coast of Scotland but only a short drive from two main towns of Inverary and Lochgilphead. The cottage has been sympathetically restored but retains all mod cons and a great wood burner. The views are breathtaking and the beach literally a stones throw from the cottage. A large garden overlooks the Loch shore and there is ample free private parking for two cars.
The outstanding Loch views in a small village setting with hill walks and a comfortable traditional cottage near Crarae National Trust Gardens.
Minard is a string of small cottages and houses halfway between the Argyll towns of Inverary and Lochgilphead. So peaceful ,tranquil and beautiful but accessible with the journeys to Glasgow a mere 1h 15m. Great for hiking, sailing and exploring the wonders of the West Coast of Scotland
  • Cuil Cottage is a peaceful haven right on the edge of Loch Fyne. We loved the peace and tranquility of the village and enjoyed local walks. It is a well appointed cottage and we especially liked the log burning stove and cosy bedrooms with views over the cottage garden and the Loch. The cottage is ideally located, just a short drive from larger towns for a wide a range of shops and eateries.

  • We loved our stay at the cottage. Elaine has thoughtfully decorated each space. The cottage was easy to find and right across the street from the loch. Great for quick trips to the shore to collect shells. There is a cute garden to relax in when the weather allows. My daughter liked playing with the toys and games. Elaine provides a large selection of kid and adult dvds as well. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The washer is a nice touch too, especially on longer trips. The bedrooms were comfortable and had blinds to keep out the sun in the morning. They are located upstairs, but there is a gate you can close so young children will not fall down the stairs. Elaine provides a lot of information on the area. There is so much to do, we wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.

  • A great location only a stones throw from Loch Fyne and lovely and quiet. The cottage is comfortable and beautifully clean. The beach at the loch is a perfect place to explore and go hunting for washed up treasure. You can walk up the lane from the cottage and go further into the hills if you wish, with other attractions close by in either direction. An excellent place for some peace and quiet and opportunity to relax.

  • We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. It’s beautiful, clean and it has everything you need, and more. Minard is a beautiful place with nice people. We were spontaneously invited by local fishermen for a boat tour on Loch Fyne to spot seals and porpoises, just amazing. The area is lovely, there’s a lot to do for the kids too. We will definitely come back! Thank you for your hospitality, Elaine!

  • Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Spotlessly clean, very homely & lots of thoughtful touches. Can not recommend this place highly enough. Elaine has been a fantastic host, everything you can think of has been covered. Can't wait to get back up there!

  • There are many things that make this cottage a wonderful place to stay but the view from the front door is truly breathtaking. The cottage itself was very clean, homely and comfortable with lots of lovely personal touches. Elaine was very easy to communicate with and left very clear instructions in the cottage on how to work everything. We had the best stay and I would definitely recommend this cottageto anyone looking for a relaxed holiday with stunning views.

Spacious apartment in a beautiful village by the side of Loch Awe. The large kitchen is fully equipped with fridge freezer, gas cooker and oven, washing machine and tumble dryer, microwave, kettle, toaster and all plates, pans etc. One double bedroom, and a large living room that includes one double and one single sofa bed, a table, and a TV. Beautiful bathroom with hand carved wooden bath panels and shelves. Gorgeous views of the garden and the Loch beyond, and alpacas grazing in the field.
This beautiful apartment has views out to Loch Awe and is within easy walking distance of all amenities. The locals are friendly, so take the time to have a coffee and a chat in the cafe or a drink in the Social Club. Breakfast and lunch are on offer in the cafe, and an evening meal can be enjoyed at the Loch View restaurant (in season). Friday night at the club is music night, so why not bring an instrument and join in!
The village is small and friendly, with a village shop, post office, and licensed cafe. There is also a community run social club which includes a bar and restaurant, and a laundry. The surrounding oak woodland trails can be explored on foot or by bike. Small motor boats can also be hired for trips out on the Loch, including visiting an ancient ruined castle on an island that dates from the 11th century or earlier.
  • Great location and great accommodation. We didn’t need to ask for anything as it was all provided.

  • Had a great stay at Chrissie's place, very comfy and just a minute or two's walk from the water. Very hospitable folk. Thanks guys, Dave.

  • Amazing value for money!!! There’s nothing more you could want if you’re chasing a quiet place to either relax, self cater and unwind amongst nature or base yourself for a couple of Munro’s (within 45mi a drive) or great walks nearby. Chrissie & Mark are awesome hosts - thanks both!

  • Great location, friendly hosts and spotlessly clean

    Craig2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to get away from it all. Some beautiful walks right on the dootstep

    Geoff2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Chrissie has included almost everything you might need. The place is isolated but we loved that. There is a takeaway curry place (The Black Rock Curry) down the road so we picked-up our meal on our way back from a days touristing. I can suggest a visit to Crinan Canal - get there before the coffee shop closes at 4pm. Also, Kilmartin has some standing stone in the middle of a grazing paddock. We did the 3 islands tour from Oban. The highlight was the amazing Fingal's Cave. But the best thing you can do is speak with Chrissie and Mark. They will help you find some great spots to visit. The place is warm and comfortable with plenty of space to use it as a base to explore the area. We would come back, and recommend this place to friends, and that's about the best compliment anyone can give.

    Rob2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely accommodation in the heart of the community with home from home facilities provided. Chrissie has thought of all those little things we forget. Lovely hostess. Great walks with waterfalls within the local area. Local amenities and social club, all within walking distance. Great locals who make you feel very welcome. Loch Awe and this location is certainly a hidden gem. We will definitely be back.

  • Beautiful, secluded and unspoilt location off the beaten track! Didn’t have enough time to explore on this occasion but wouldn’t hesitate to return. Well stocked accommodation with everything you could need and more. Only had time for a brief conversation with our hosts due to family commitments but found them fascinating to talk to and would have liked more time to chat! Thanks for everything.

  • Nice play to stay, beautiful location.

    Bram2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • It's a very cute cabin in a nice location. A minor point: towels aren't provided, which is only made clear after booking. Other than that I would recommend the strae cabin. We had a great time there

    Peter2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time staying at Strae cabin. The local area, of course including the loch, was beautiful. The local village of Dalavich was friendly and we enjoyed visiting the great village shop/cafe/post office for a hot chocolate. Dalavich is set in beautiful scenery and there is plenty to do and see if you're willing to drive a little. We enjoyed returning to the cosy cabin and cooking some dinner in the well-equipped kitchen. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return for a relaxing and peaceful stay.

    Olivia2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful surroundings. Lovely walks and cycles.. we didn't use the car at all whilst there. Nice spot to swim nearby. All in all very nice.

    Barry2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant wee cabin. We stayed here on a last minute holiday and had a fabulous time with our dog and 3 year old. Forecast was for rain but we were lucky to have some sunny spells. Although the cabin is stunning in the rain surrounded by the woodland. Had a great walk on the red and blue trails, perfect for our daughter but still felt like a walk for the adults. Also had a lovely lunch at cafe in the village, sat outside with our dog. Clean charming cabin

    Sally2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cabin, it’s such a special spot!

    Claudia2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Really unique place to stay :) Cosy, comfortable and rustic. Good outdoor seating area and separate bbq area, which we used for roasting marshmallows!

    Sarah2019-05-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely , relaxing stay . The cabin was cosy and charming, set in woodlands not far from the loch's shore. Would definitely return.
