Places to stay in Fortuna

Places to stay in Fortuna
This is a tiny house in the redwoods, built by an artist as a spiritual retreat. The building is built on sacred geometry ideas, and sits perfectly placed on the cardinal directions. It is private and promises introspection and creativity. This is a perfect place for a soul connected romantic weekend or a writers get away. Sit on the patio amongst the redwoods while you sip your morning coffee. Soak in the claw foot tub and let the stress melt away with the birds singing. Dog friendly.
There is no place like this. Every detail has been creatively inspired with the intent of promoting a sense of spiritual connection and peace. The redwoods that surround the home are quiet and inviting. There is a kitchenette with a mini fridge, sink, coffee pot, electric tea kettle, microwave and electric cooktop. There is a deliciously comfortable queen sized memory foam bed upstairs in the loft. There is a half bath inside and a uniquely elegant outdoor bath with a claw foot tub/shower that allows you to be in nature while you relax. The home is built almost entirely out of reclaimed old growth redwood. The design is inspired by spiritual sanctuaries or places of worship. There is no tv or wifi because the home is meant to draw one closer to their spiritual connection and away from the busy world. I provide yoga mats and a library and encourage their use. Fluffy soft bathrobes are provided. There is an essential oil diffuser to set the mood and the soaps and shampoos are natural and organic. The deck is an amazing place for yoga in the morning. The property is far from neighbors and road noise but still close to town. There is total privacy and quite. Destination spots nearby are the Avenue of the Giants, The lost coast, Ferndale, Centerville beach and the Eel river.
The property is about a mile from downtown Fortuna and 2 miles from highway 101, however, it is isolated and one feels that they are far in the countryside.
  • Love the place would definitely book again!

Set on a small organic medicinal herb nursery/farm with gardens and chickens nearby. Just one mile from Eel River Brewery, America's first organic brewery. 20 minutes to Avenue of the Giants. 15 minutes from Swimmer’s Delight. Just 10 minutes from the Victorian village of Ferndale. 10 minutes from Bear River Casino. A great base for northcoast adventures.

Bathroom has vanity, toilet and shower. Carport available to park under. Tea and coffee available. Tea from plants grown on the property. Very comfortable queen bed and a full size sofa bed comfortable for two more. Relax in a classic 1957 Spartan Imperial Mansion in the redwoods. This is a fun and happy mobile home, surrounded by redwoods, birds, a beautiful flower garden, privacy and serenity. The home is located in a secluded 12 acre forest, 1/2 a mile from downtown Fortuna but it seems like it is far in the country. The home is 20 minutes to the Humboldt Redwoods state park and the Avenue of the Giants, 15 minutes to Centerville beach and 7 minutes to the Eel river. Dog friendly.
This is a 40' long, 1957 vintage mobile home, with classic 50s design, decorated in a shabby chic style. The home is 320 sf with a full functioning kitchen and bathroom. There is a bedroom in the back, a bathroom with a full sized tub and shower, a dining room, a living room with a futon for extra guests. There is also a smart tv and wifi.
This property is isolated and the neighbors are neither visible nor audible. The property has solitude, quietness, deep forests, extensive gardens, peacefulness. Rohner park is adjacent to the property with hiking trails in second growth redwoods. The best places to eat in Fortuna are L's kitchen for breakfast, Kome sushi or the Eel River brewery for lunch or dinner.
  • My sister and I had a great time staying in this quirky place. It was a great location and was so beautiful. We want to come back for a longer stay!

  • Amazing and beautiful property, cute little private guest home

    Jordan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl is a warm and welcoming host! The imperial spartan is situated in a quiet spot surrounded by nature—great for a restful weekend. Heaters at either end made for a cozy atmosphere even in January! Loved our stay so much it was really hard to leave. Thanks again!

    Jennifer2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great, really separates you from work and public, puts you in your zone with your significant other/ or other, I love how there were pots and pans to cook lol

    Ezra2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this place and stayed here for a week. Was like walking back in time. Had everything we needed and more. The setting is very peaceful. There are a lot of things to do around the area. Shopping, great drives along the coast. Loved the Dogs and the goat, Elvis. We would stay here again when in the area.

    Rita2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for peace and quiet. Close to town but in the forrest.

    Lori2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Because of a booking conflict, I had the benefit and pleasure of staying in both of Cheryl's properties just outside of Fortuna. They're both lovely units full of very personal, creative and homey touches. All three of us (husband, dog and me) loved it. The long gravel road leading to the complex gives one the sense of being out in the country even though you're minutes away from the village. We would certainly stay again and appreciate the hospitality!

    Fred2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl's place was a great stop-off on our rainy drive down the coast from Portland to the Bay Area for the holidays. The trailer was very cozy and well stocked with wine and board games. The location provided the privacy of being in the woods while only minutes away from downtown Fortuna and Eel River Brewery. We will definitely consider staying again next time we take 101 in the winter. Thanks Cheryl!

3 GOOD REASONS FOR RENTING THIS HIDEAWAY RIGHT NOW: 1. We're taking extra precautions to make it as safe & stressless as possible....sanitizing everything we can see & think of that gets touched by human hands: light switches, door nobs and handles, toilet flushers, furniture, appliances...ETC. (We don't want this virus any more than you do!) :-) 2. The hot tub ALWAYS gets sanitized between EVERY group of guests 3. Your comfort, peace, & safety are our primary concerns
Here are 7 more reasons for renting this hideaway: 1.) You can create an unforgettable experience at a forgettable price. 2.) Every single view (inside & out) is a photo op. 3.) Your neighbors want the exact same thing as much as you do - PRIVACY, PEACE, QUIET, BEAUTY, and a PERSONAL experience. 4.) It's a great place to hide out if you need some peace of mind combined with beauty and serenity. 5.) It's hidden in the healing energy of redwoods (& has good parking!) 6.) It's super close to town AND... 7.) I want to STAY a super host! (That means I aim to please - ALWAYS!) PS...we are providing a basket full of sanitizing options from conventional products (like Lysol, Hand sanitizer, and Pinesol) to green products (such as vinegar, alcohol, and soap). We are also providing gloves and paper towels as well :-) This strategically tucked in and hidden home actually invites you to enjoy the lush, overgrown forest of the West Coast, while still being only less than a mile (an easy walking distance) from the heart of Fortuna. You will be able to get warm and relaxed in the outdoor hot tub that gets emptied and refilled with fresh, clean water for each and every guest. To conserve energy we keep the hot tub turned off between guests. If you are intending to use the hot tub we would love a head's up and we will turn it on for you in advance of your arrival. The little cottage is right next door to this bigger house and there is going to be a vintage trailer (for VERY up-scaled camping) tucked under the trees on the same property…which may or may not be rented during your stay. All three rentals are private and have their own parking spaces and private entries. It is very easy to actually enjoy total privacy while you reside in one of the options…however you may pass each other while using the great outdoors and parking lot. The insides are totally insulated and sounds stay inside…and a privacy screen is provided for your hot-tubbing experiences :-) Please, please, please read all the way through this One really awesome advantage of having these three living spaces on one piece of property is that retreats, reunions, people attending the same events, etc. can all stay in the same location. There are enough beds to accommodate 9 - 10 people comfortably (and 5 cars without trailers). As I am sitting here, looking out my windows while typing this up, I am reminded that we are nestled in the heart of a playground for wildlife. We often hear of and experience sightings ranging from the families of deer who live here to raccoons, bears, mountain lions, and skunks. For that reason we encourage you to be conscious of your small pet's whereabouts during your stay. Being that this house sits squarely in the center of a clearing in the woods we feel it is incumbent upon us to tell you that, although beautiful and sunny most of the day, it is definitely shaded in the early mornings and early evenings. We have an outdoor heater so that the deck can be enjoyed year 'round :-) Please know that under the gorgeous canopy of greenery comes several other territorial peculiarities. We get spiders and webs (but spray with chrysanthemum oil once a month), we get dust and redwood droppings (needles and branches), and we also get moss, mold, slugs, bugs, mushrooms, and all that comes with living in the moist, lush forests near the coast. We have gone to great lengths to make this house as allergen free and environmentally friendly to the best of our ability with the resources we have had available to us. We have put wool carpet in bedrooms, hardwood in the hallway, use pure lavender in the diffusers, and provide pet blankets for the seating areas, etc. In fact...IF you have allergies PLEASE let us know in advance. We don't NEED to put lavender in the diffusers...we can use other oils or none at all. We can't read your mind so we have to depend on you to tell us. And please don't book this location if mold and fungus are an issue for you! This house is literally in the redwoods, redwoods hold moisture in the air...mushrooms are abundant, mold and moss grows prolifically, and mildew happens rather quickly. We do all the right things to keep it dry inside, ie: good insulation, forced air heating, dehumidifying routinely, etc...nevertheless - damp is in the air...always. Parking and comings and goings may appear a little tricky at first but is actually very easy to navigate. There is room, in the summer months, to park a trailer or large RV on the flat at the bottom of the hill but there are no hooks ups. The flat is unavailable during the rainy season because it becomes a mud bog. We don't want these things we say to discourage you from coming, but we also don't want you to experience any potentially negative surprises! :-) The bottom line, as our guests, is that you will be living in our ongoing art project. Every single angle and view is designed to be a photo op and a comfort zone for you :-) (except for the ones that are out of our control in the neighborhood). We know, and want you to know that we know, that our rentals are sooo not perfect…BUT we put a whole lot of time, energy, and effort into making them comfortable, clean, convenient, and candy for your eyes :-) We hope you will enjoy your stay in every way :-)
We think our immediate neighborhood is special because, well, there is nothing really "special" about it at all. :-) The house is located behind the beautiful park and rodeo grounds on a meandering, quiet, country road where all the beauty is in the natural scenery of the surrounding and magnificent redwoods...so don't expect extraordinary architecture, landscaped yards, or street lights here, just expect ordinary, middle class, rural living spaces where some are much worse or better than others in an extraordinary valley. A short 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk gets you to the heart of the bustling little town of Fortuna where you can get all of your living needs and desires met at grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, auto supply stores, gyms, antique co-ops, and gas stations. I have a collection of menus and venues and must-see locations available in the house for you to peruse through :-) What we think is the most special about Fortuna is the fact that it is a fabulous and temperate "home base" for all the events and seasons of Humboldt County. It is just inland enough to sport a warmer, dryer climate than the more northern, western, and coastal towns and is also centrally located to be between a 15 minute and an hour's drive to the historical architecture and events that are abundant and unique to Humboldt. And speaking of which...there is sooooo much to take in and enjoy here in Humboldt…check the calendar before you get here to see if you can take part in local events like the Fortuna Rodeo, Humboldt Beer Fest, Art and Wine in the Park, and the Apple Harvest Festival, Auto Expo. or the Benbow Arts and Crafts Faire in Garberville! A visit to Fern Canyon, Agate Beach, and Trinidad Head as well as a visit to Humboldt Redwoods State Park are other incredible sights to behold. (BTW, that particular park has the largest remaining stand of redwoods in the world.) And/or you could take a scenic drive down the Avenue of the Giants via Highway 101, hike the trailheads, or take a boat down the Eel River! Additional trips within 30 minutes of the property could include Old Town Eureka, the Victorian Village of Ferndale, Sequoia Park Zoo, Loleta Cheese Factory, and Bear River Casino...or simply a leisurely walk in our woods or a vigorous hike on the well maintained hills of our very own enchanting Rohner Park.
  • The pictures tell it all! There are actually three sleeping rooms. Our Grandson enjoyed the smaller on with the pullout bed while our Grand daughter stayed in the larger room with the trundle bed and it's own bathroom, she was really excited about her room!

  • 5 stars all around. I rented Pauline’s place to celebrate my birthday with my best friend and our expectations were far exceeded! I would stay again and recommend my friends and family to stay here. Great decor in all the living spaces and such a nice relaxing atmosphere indoors and out. Loved the hot tub too. Thanks for everything Pauline, you’re the best!

    Hayley2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline's place was way better than I imagined! The decor, amenities and ambiance of the place was interesting, intriguing and soothing. Definitely will recommend to friends and family

    Rachael2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Pauline’s Hillside Retreat was everything we wished for and more – within easy reach of good restaurants and spectacular destinations, situated in a beautiful outdoor environment, sumptuously artful and exotic interiors, fully equipped for quiet relaxation and intimate home-cooked meals, and everywhere the spirit of an owner filled with love, nurturing, and joie de vivre. Thank you, Pauline!

  • I am not a frequent Air BnB user, as i currently clean vacation rentals myself. However, this stay was one of the most wonderful vacations i’ve had in quite some time. Even though we are local, the holidays are a rough time so my partner and I made a last minute decision to get away for a night, and wow, we were so lucky. Pauline has personally curated one of the most serene, welcoming homes i have ever encountered, and as i said, i have cleaned many. The level of detail that she has brought into the home is what i would consider perfect, as you walk from room to room you can truly feel how much care and attention she has devoted to each space. The holidays can be a dark time for many families, but this opportunity was a beacon of light and warmth. I 100% recommend staying at this accommodation for anyone passing through, or even local and trying to get away for a minute. We will most assuredly be back, as soon as possible. Thank you again Pauline. What a lovely experience!

    Hazel2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed in some amazing airbnb's, on ocean bluffs, across from beaches, and perched high in the Sierras, but this one is my favorite. It's more of a retreat than a home, carefully decorated and filled with items to encourage you to slow down, unplug and reconnect. A perfect place to spend a quiet and restful stay, if you enjoy things like meditation, tarot and eastern mysticism this is the place for you! Pauline is an amazing host, she's as special as her home is, making us feel welcome and taken care of. Truly an amazing space tucked away on the North Coast. We'll be back.

  • The price of lodging is high in Eureka (coast in general) I was taking some me time away and this was a cute unit, separate from the main home. The price was amazing. The place was so cute. Check in was easy. Host was responsive. The bathroom connnected to this unit is shared with other units, but the door double locks for privacy. I would reccomend shower shoes (advice from fire camp) because you're sharing the shower. But sharing that space was not a problem! Fridge microwave and toaster. Dishes silverware and coffee maker. Perfect for one or two people. Great for moms retrear. In a safe neighborhood. Quiet. And cute. Thanks!

The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel is an independent hotel with 46 units and a team that is here to assist you 24 hours. Located on Hwy 101. Once a Holiday Inn Express we are now an independent property that offers a strong sense of place. Upgrades have been completed in the lobby and indoor pool with room upgrades in progress. We are your base camp on the Redwood Coast. We clean our rooms chemical-free, bath amenities are spa-grade and eco-friendly, and every stay comes with a buffet breakfast.
The Lumberjack room has a king bed and a bunkbed with twin beds. We are a two story hotel with no elevator. We are a hotel located off Highway 101. We are amongst other hotels and road side services. Updates are on going. We are about 250 ft from the banks of the Eel River. Snacks in the afternoon. Plenty of books and games for entertaining. Even an indoor pool. Murals giving a nod to the local history and redwoods.
You are steps away from Fortuna’s Riverwalk, stroll or bike a scenic two-mile stretch along the bank of the Eel River. We are located next to iconic Highway 101 (redwood Highway) with three other hotels and services for eating and getting gas.
  • Great size room. The jacuzzi tub was a great touch & my kids loved the bunk beds!! The hotel is in a great location, close to many restaurants. The only thing that I could see improving would be the breakfast selection, maybe bagels or pastries?

    Bobbee2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here if you want a spacious room with a warm, comfortable bed and a jacuzzi bath!! That latter part was the highlight of our stay! Our only issue was that the pool is right by the room so you definitely hear the kids yelling and splashing around, but it didn't affect our sleep any, so it didn't ruin anything. Overall great visit in a hotel that's being renovated. You can see the great updates in the lobby and while the room is a little older, it's spotlessly clean so no complaints there! We had a very cozy night. Just right.

Comfortably furnished deck for lounging under shade trees. Grill available for your use on deck, and I have a portable fire pit for evenings, as well.
Although The Country Cottage is located on a very quiet neighborhood on dead end street with a view overlooking parts of the Eel River Valley, you are just 5 minutes from Restaurants and stores in Fortuna, and it takes less than a minute to hop on Highway 101 to head north or south for adventures and sight seeing. Several beautiful beaches are just 15 minutes away. Eureka is a 20 minute drive away for business, and more varied dining and shopping experiences. Just a 10 minute drive south on 101 takes you to the Avenue Of the Giants. The Botanical Gardens just 10 minus north, and theWildlife Refuge and Marsh are even closer. Historic Ferndale just minutes away!
  • The place is super cute and cozy and perfect for 1-2 people. The barn animals were fun to watch but I think the geese were under the impression that they are the alarm system and would make noises from time to time. It was perfect if you need to stay in the Fortuna area. There was a nice town nearby called Ferndale with restaurants and shops and an incredible beach just a short drive away.

  • Good area and the chickens were really nice.

    Tyree2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Pamela's barn cottage was perfect for my daughter and I to stay in while we visited my mom who lives in Fortuna, only 5 mins away in town. It was super cosy, and we really enjoyed the fresh eggs that were in the fridge. The chickens, geese and alpacas were also very cool.

    Jessica2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little jewel with furry and feathered friends!

    Peggy Sue2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Warm and cozy cabin in the country about 2 minutes from the freeway! Fresh eggs and friendly livestock! One of the alpacas is a real ham. It was a blast staying there. Pam and staff (sorry forget her name!) were responsive and welcoming. Only issue is my dumb city phone didn't work so well up there, although texting worked fine. Locals say only Verizon is foolproof up this way so not specific to this cabin. Recommend and would stay again for sure!

    Lisa2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Pamela’s cottage is so comfortable and had everything we needed for our weekend stay. The chicken decor is very country chic. We loved visiting with Curley and Mo (the alpacas) and feeding the chickens. The cottage is located just a 5 min drive from the restaurants of Fortuna and about 15 min from Ferndale. Definitely recommend.

Welcome to our lovely little studio cottage in the charming Victorian town of Ferndale! Located on historic Main Street, a few blocks walk from downtown with it's many shops, cafes and restaurants. Our little cottage is very private and has views of the redwoods, creek and open pasture land out the back door. The cottage is cozy and has everything you will need on your vacation. Kitchenette, comfy queen bed, large bathroom, electric fireplace, TV, private fenced yard.
You will love our studio in the redwoods! Great private location at the back of the property with a private fenced yard surrounded by redwood trees! You will love views of the creek and open pasture land from the back deck. Watch the cows and buffalo graze from the back yard! Imagine enjoying a cup of tea on your back deck while listening to birds chirp in the redwood trees and cows moo in from the pastures. The cottage is cute as a bug! Decorated in a shabby chic decor with Victorian Ferndale as the theme. Cozy, clean and feels like home! Electric fireplace and oil heater for warmth on those foggy days. There is a queen bed with memory foam mattress. The kitchenette has microwave, burners, toaster oven and mini fridge (no oven). Large bathroom! There is cable TV and internet in the cottage, too. We are pet friendly but charge a $50/per pet fee. Thanks!
About the Historic Victorian Village of Ferndale Become Part of a Different World "Tucked away between the California Redwoods and Humboldt Bay, the Victorian Village of Ferndale is a magical town that blends the best of the past and the present, all amidst the backdrop of Northern California's magnificent Lost Coast. Visitors come here for our fantastically preserved Victorian era architecture and stunning coastal scenery. But what they fall in love with is the feeling. Ferndale is more than a pretty picture: It's a place where small-town Americana is alive and well, where kids stay out playing after dusk and neighbors are quick to lend a helping hand. It's a haven for artists and creative-minded folks who left behind the fast pace of the suburbs or city to follow a dream, make a difference and lead a fuller life. It's a special town that we're proud to call home, whether our family has been here for five years or five generations. Whether you're drawn to historic architecture, want to explore our incredible coastline and forests, or are simply looking for an escape from the everyday world, we invite you to discover Northern California and the Redwood Coast's best kept secret - and fall in love with Ferndale."--Enjoy Magazine
  • Great little cottage tucked away in their backyard! I didn’t have the feel that I was in someone’s backyard, but that I had my own space. Thanks Tracy!

  • Nice guest house, and private area. It had driveway parking, and its about 20 to 30 min away from some awesome redwood hiking trails.

  • This is a darling cottage with an exceptional location in Victorian Ferndale. It far exceeded our expectations. The bed is very comfortable and the decor is amazing. There was even a bottle of wine ! Great hostess! We walked to the village from our cottage. We Highly recommend this property! You will love your stay.

  • Beautiful and amazing place that was perfect for my boyfriend, me and our medium-sized dog! Very private, fenced in location with views of a beautiful field with obviously filled with happy cows and deer if you catch them. Excellent hosts: welcoming, friendly, accomodating, quick with replies and downright good people. Warning: the bed is extremely comfortable, even though the picturesc town is walking distance you may get stuck in this downright homey cottage!

    Jennifer2018-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a cute cottage! We loved staying in Ferndale at Tracy’s cottage. It was exactly as described, and has so many cute touches! The backyard is a very tranquil space and allowed our dog to run around and stare at the cows in the neighboring field. Visiting in January, it was a bit chilly outdoors, but the space heater provides warmed the cottage right up! If traveling to Ferndale again, I would definitely stay here. It’s perfect for a couple looking for a quiet get away.

    Emma2018-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts were delightful! Cottage very nice and perfect for a romantic couple! Downtown close and Victorian Inn was great for bar and dinner!

    Robert2017-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy is genuinely the sweetest host with so much hospitality. Her home is absolutely immaculate and has so many unique and traditional victorian touches to it. This airbnb is every bit of a "home away from home",, clean, comfortable, modern and traditional are the first words that come to mind. My husband and I enjoy making meals together in the beautiful kitchen that is updated with top of the line appliances and fully furnished with every cooking accessory that you can imagine. I have 3 children that enjoy watching the deers every morning, playing outside everyday is always a new adventure for them and it is an experience that we will appreciate and remember forever. The area is absolutely beautiful, safe, secluded, organic, and the people are very friendly. I give tracy and her home a 10 out of 10 and I will ALWAYS use this home as my first option for renting an airbnb in humboldt county.

Its not actually a ranch these days, but this comfy 2-bedroom apartment adjacent to one of the oldest buildings in Fortuna has definitely got old ranchería vibes. We are in the heart of Humboldt County, only 20 mins from the famous Avenue of the Giants, 20 mins from the beach, 20 mins from Eureka where you can find shopping at the mall or the historical old town by the bay.
There are many things to do here in humboldt county. I was born and raised here and will be happy to share some local favorite spots. The house itself is a historical part of Fortuna. A unique and cozy spot with a ton of character. The front and back yards are fully fenced, perfect for children or pets. You will be within walking distance to the bus stop, a small cafe, market and neighborhood playground.
Fortuna the friendly city! This particular spot is a historical part of fortuna, and it is all that is left of the original down town Rohnerville, CA from the 1800s.

  • Adorable little farm house, lots of thoughtful touches, very clean, very cute goats, easy access to the beach. A perfect stay!

    Loren2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The house was perfect for our needs! It was clean and well appointed, and I enjoyed scratching the goats’ heads 🙂 The trail network across the road was amazing, too! If we ever need a place to stay in the area again we hope you’ll consider letting us stay.

  • My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night while visiting some family. If you’re looking to getaway while still being close to town, this is the perfect place. Very thoughtful touches to make sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. We cannot wait to come back again.

We are also providing gloves and paper towels as well :-) Our super comfy queen sized bed (with heatable mattress pad), 1 small bath cottage invites you to enjoy the lush, overgrown forest of the West Coast, while still being only less than a mile (an easy walking distance) from the heart of Fortuna. We do not advertise that the hot tub comes with the cottage but it actually CAN be totally available to you If there are no tenants in the big house. . I won’t be able to tell you until a day or so before your arrival if it is available. So don’t book it with high hopes of hot tubbing…just have low hopes and you won’t be disappointed. To conserve energy we keep the hot tub turned off between guests. If you are intending to use the hot tub we would love a head's up and we will turn it on in advance for you. The big house is right next door to this little cottage and there will be a vintage trailer (for VERY up-scaled camping) tucked under the trees on the same property…which may or may not be rented during your stay. All three rentals are private and have their own parking spaces and private entries. It is very easy to actually enjoy total privacy while you reside in one of the options…however you may pass each other while using the great outdoors and parking lot. The insides are totally insulated and sounds stay inside…and a privacy screen is provided for your hot-tubbing experiences :-) One really awesome advantage of having these three living spaces on one piece of property is that retreats, reunions, people attending the same events, etc. can all stay in the same location. Being that the house sits squarely in the center of a clearing in the woods we feel it is incumbent upon us to tell you that, although beautiful and sunny most of the day, it is definitely shaded in the early mornings and early evenings. In fact...the cottage dehumidifier needs to be emptied every single day. While you are there we will ask you to do that. If you are not willing then this may not be the place for you to stay unless you don't mind if we come in every day and do it for you. Every single angle and view is designed to be a photo op for you :-) (except for the ones that are out of our control in the neighborhood).
I have a collection of menus and venues and must-see locations available in the cottage for you to peruse through :-) What we think is the most special about Fortuna is the fact that it is a fabulous and temperate "home base" for all the events and seasons of Humboldt County.
  • Nice little secluded place with cozy feels.

  • Pauline's cottage was a wonderful retreat amongst the redwoods, just as described. The bed was super comfy and it was so quiet that we slept better than we have slept in a long, long time. Pauline provided all of the direction we needed and was very respectful of our privacy while being very responsive to all of our needs at the same time. It was wonderful to have access to a kitchen that was well equipped where we could prepare simple meals and yet to also be close to town to be able to go out with family in the area. We definitely hope to come again, and will choose to stay with Pauline again, as her cottage offered great value for a great accommodation that we hope to enjoy again! Thank you, Pauline!

  • Pauline was an excellent host. She communicated with us before and during the trip and met us at check in. The cottage was very comfortable. It was perfect for my wife and I to get away and relax. The cottage was close enough to town to enjoy the amenities yet far enough away to offer peace and quiet. We will definitely go back.

Cat's Meow Studio B is like a rustic, cabin near the woods. It's located behind Studio A/garage building and is a private stay with a bathroom, a combo living room/bedroom, and a full kitchen. It is a perfect overnight stay for visiting the Redwoods, or for an extended stay when you need more time to be here on the North Coast.
Cat's Meow Studio B is perfect for one or two people. It has a futon/couch which makes in to a full-size/queen bed. It is a little stark and is a decorating work in progress. The bathroom has no sink, but the kitchen sink is only a few steps away. The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, 4 burner gas stove, micro-wave, coffee pot and a small table which will double as the desk. There is a dedicated WiFi router and laundry is available for extended stays. Parking is about 20ft. away and there are motion lights on the garage.
Cat's Meow Studio B is located east of Arcata. The western portion of our property is a dedicated wetlands with a creek that defines the western property line. We are minutes from Arcata, but it feels like a cabin in the woods because we have several Redwoods on the property as well as other trees and hedgings. Because of the way the buildings on the property sit, it feels a lot more rural than it is - definitely not a suburb.
  • Nice quite place, comfortable, perfect for the couple or single person. Meets my criteria, of hot shower, comfy bed , peaceful atmosphere!

This studio is above our detached garage, about 30ft. in front of our house. It has a private entrance with stairs up to the loft. Perfect for one or two people. We share this property with some stray cats, a couple of deer friends, and pesky racoons. As we are about 40 yds off the road, there is private parking with motion detecting nightlights and a sidewalk leading to the entrance. The room has a small refrigerator, micro-wave oven, student desk and old, wooden office chair. Two folding chairs and a table are provided for sitting on the balcony. There is a twin bed and a scissor futon couch that makes into a full-sized bed. Towels, soap, shampoo and bedding for the couch-bed are provded. Private parking is 20 ft. from the entrance with motion detecting nightlights for your safety. Guest will have access to the studio and our yard, which borders on a dedicated wetlands. There are no trails. We are providing a clean, quiet and private space for guest to enjoy their time here in Arcata and Humboldt County. We are availabe for directions and recommendations, otherwise, we ask that our privacy be respected. Our neighborhood is quiet and rural, surrounded by trees. We have deer that roam our yard, sometimes on a daily basis. There is a good coffee/ sandwhich shop about 50yds from the house - they do not give "to go" cups, so we provide them. There is a small shopping center 1 mile towards Arcata that has a friendly neighborhood market, laundromat, hardware store and restaurant. This is a bike friendly area, with wide bike lanes. We are 2.5 miles from Humboldt State University - a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute bike ride. We are 3 miles southeast of Arcata and 4 miles northeast of Eureka. We are 1 mile from the nearest public transit. It is at Sunny Brae shopping center. This is the southernmost point for the Mad River transit and connects in Arcata to Redwood Transit that connects Fortuna, Eureka and Trinidad.

This is an upstairs room in a 1909 Victorian/Craftsman home. The room has a dormer window and a small library and desk. There is a large closet and plenty of space to stretch out. It’s about two blocks west to the bay and boat landing and about two blocks to the Boathouse bar and restaurant. The house is about 5 minutes south of Eureka and 15 minutes north of Fortuna, making it convenient for traveling medical staff working at St Joe’s Hospital or Redwood Memorial Hospital.
Shared kitchen, living room, and bathroom.
We are a stone’s throw away from the Humboldt Bay and boat launching site and the small town’s only bar/restaurant. We are also less than a minute from Humboldt County’s main artery, Highway 101.
  • I loved staying in Sara’s attic room. It was cozy, comfortable and very clean. It reminded me of an attic room I used to stay in at my Grandma’s house. Since I’m a book lover, I liked having a room with lots of books.

The room is big, comfortable with plenty of space. All the house is spotless clean and the privacy is very well cared. I reccomend this host to anybody who needs a quiet and cozy place. They have a sunny back yard with a green garden where Sara grows delicious vegetables that she kindly and generously shared with us.

  • This was the perfect location for our needs. Check in was easy, everything was spotless and comfortable. Yes, we were made aware of the stairs and booked this anyway because of the reviews. While stairs aren't our most favorite thing due to our aging bodies, it was well worth the 16 steps to this lovely apartment. We enjoyed our morning coffee sitting on the deck smelling the coastal breeze and watching the fog burn off. The next time I'm in Humboldt County, I'm crossing my fingers this is available.

Plenty of privacy in this studio room with private entry, "3/4" bathroom (shower - no tub) and "kitchenette" with sink, filtered drinking water, mini coffee maker, toaster oven, & mini fridge. In scenic Old Town near boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Please *read house rules* prior to booking - Old Town is the urban "downtown" of this county and some nights there is noise. This studio is a GREAT deal compared to even the cheapest motels on the noisy highway, but noise is a possibility here, too.
The studio is a cozy, simple little place -- nothing fancy -- just an inexpensive, private place to stay that is conveniently located to the local attractions. Like most houses in Eureka this place was built over 100 years ago, it is not renovated or gentrified, and it has its quirks if you're not accustomed to older homes.
The studio is located in walking distance to historic Old Town Eureka and its coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, the Eureka Tourism Center, and famous Victorian architecture like the Carson Mansion and the Pink Lady mansion. It is also walking distance to the waterfront walking path, the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center and the Adorni Center for public recreation.

  • Katherine’s place was quiet, small, and cute— everything we were expecting. Although, the heater made loud banging sounds so it made it a bit difficult to sleep and the location wasn’t the nicest. There’s a public library right across the street from our stay and there was a lot of people loitering there. Besides that, it was fine all around! :)

The Red Barn Cottage is located within walking distance of the Victorian village of Ferndale. The redwoods and ocean are a short drive away. The Cottage is a charming, separate studio with a private entrance, gated patio, full kitchen and bathroom. This space is perfect for a couple or a family with one child. A small dog might be considered but only with our approval and an additional nonrefundable pet fee. Please do not make a booking until you have contacted us about your dog.
The Cottage is a separate studio with a private entrance, gated patio, full kitchen and bathroom. It has a homey atmosphere with all the amenities of home. Your comfort is our top priority! Breakfast is in the refrigerator, ready for you to prepare and a bottle of wine awaits you. The freshest gourmet coffee beans are available for you to grind, along with complementary biscotti. Outside the patio, you are surrounded by meadows with dairy cows, horses, mountain views and cool ocean breezes. We try to think of everything to make sure that your stay with us is relaxing and memorable! We do have a propane barbecue in your private patio for your convenience.
Enjoy exploring the charming village of Ferndale, full of quaint and quirky shops, delicious cuisine, wonderful art galleries, and many historic sites. We are surrounded by meadows with dairy cows, horses, mountain views and a cool ocean breeze. The Pacific Ocean is only a few miles away and magnificent forests surround rolling farmlands. The beautiful North Coast is perfect for sightseeing, relaxing, hiking, and exploring. Of note, Ferndale was the location for the movie The Majestic and many others. Its beauty and charm has lent itself to many filmmaking projects, events and awards. In fact, Forbes magazines named Ferndale one of "America's Prettiest Towns." It is an ideal getaway from the busy modern world and never fails to enchant visitors. Most people agree, coming to our wonderful Victorian village is like taking a trip back to a simpler time, but with a splash of modern eclecticism that makes the experience truly unique. Ferndale also hosts the annual Humboldt County Fair in August-September and is the last leg of the world famous Kinetic Sculpture Race on Memorial Day weekend. The Humboldt County Fairgrounds are only one block away from the Red Barn Cottage, easy walking distance. Please note that during the summer the Fairgrounds has various activities, especially during the Humboldt County Fair weeks, such as Horse Racing and there will be loudspeaker noise. There has been also some motorcycle racing and truck events, so you will hear some extra noise when these activities are taking place. It has only occurred a few times. We are a fair distance away but wanted to give a heads up that summer is the time for these activities to take place. Ferndale is also known as Cream City, because of the many dairy farms that surround our area.
  • The Red Barn was very clean, but cozy. We felt like we were staying at a friend's guest house because they went to great lengths to make sure we were comfortable in every way. The laundry room, extra soft blankets, slippers, and heated mattress was an unexpected treat. We will certainly recommend this place to our friends!

  • Great place to recharge and enjoy peace and quiet. Lynne really does think of the detail and provided fresh eggs and homemade muffins. It was a real treat. Highly recommend the Red Barn.

    Barbara2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place. Peaceful and not in the middle of town. The special touches (farm fresh eggs for breakfast) and a comfortable bed made the stay perfect. We were in town for a concert at the Old Steeple. 2 minute drive and a nice venue. We will be back again.

    Shawn2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice, quiet space, beautiful surroundings, close to great hiking, bird watching etc.

    Sharon2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Best Air BnB ever. Lynne literally thought of everything. Fresh homemade breakfast food tucked in the fridge for us, and a wonderful bottle of wine. The little cottage was so clean and cozy. We cannot wait to stay there again. Highly recommend Lynne’s place should you travel through the Northern California coast.

The Huckleberry Hideaway is a private, cozy & warm one-bedroom upstairs apartment nestled in the redwood forest. Tucked behind the beautiful Arcata Community Forest, our Hideaway is less than a 10-minute drive from historic Arcata city center, Humboldt State University, the Mad River, rugged beaches and miles of forest trails. Enjoy the warm morning sun rising over Mad River valley from a private deck with complementary coffee and tea. We diligently clean to protect your health and safety.
[In light of what’s happening around the world, we have instituted additional cleaning practices to protect our guests (and our family).] Recently updated, the Huckleberry Hideaway is cozy, comfortable & functional. This is a beautiful property in a safe & quiet neighborhood. A wide set of wooden stairs leads up to the private balcony and apartment. A comfortable standard queen bed is in the bedroom and a twin sized fold out bed/ottoman is available for sleeping in the main living space. Free WiFi & Netflix on the TV. Includes a new gas stove with oven, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and hot water kettle. Plus cookware, dish ware and basic utensils. We provide tea, coffee and creamer. This is an active three generation property. Oma (grandma) lives below the apartment with her two well-behaved dachshunds. You might also catch a glimpse of one of our black kitties or our spunky toddler. COMMUNICATION We prefer to communicate through the AirBnb app. I highly recommended that you download the app onto your mobil device and set notifications to ON. Expect a message the day of your arrival with important check-in information. If you're unable to use the app, let us know in advance and we can send you the instructions earlier. Thank You!
This is a very quiet neighborhood tucked away on a ridge line between Arcata and the Mad River. We have a lot of fun around the holidays being next to a Christmas Tree farm!

Wake up to the sunrise and 180 degree view of beautiful Arcata Bay from this 1 bed, 1 bath cottage! Adjacent to the Manila Community Park with disc golf, tennis and a children's play area. Walking distance to the Lighthouse Mini-Golf, and the beach! Ideal for a couple and small child (or two). Also suitable for two couples. Open deck with expansive backyard for relaxing. 10-15 minutes walk to Manila Dunes beach. All amenities you need for a get-away, remote work or a visit to HSU.
(* Due to the nature of current events... we would like to remind and reassure our current and prospective guests that we always take cleaning and disinfecting seriously in between reservations. Wishing everyone peace and prosperity during these uncertain times.) This space provides a stunningly unique view of Arcata Bay that you won't get anywhere else. In addition, it is tucked away in the quiet corner of a small coastal neighborhood know as "Manila" nicely removed from highway noise and nearby neighbors. It is in a great central location 10 minutes to Humboldt State University, 7 to downtown Arcata, and 5 minutes to Eureka. The cottage is approximately 600 square feet.
Humboldt County is a rural area known historically for lumber and agriculture, and is surrounded by breathtaking wilderness. Humboldt retains its country lifestyle while displaying a forward thinking and welcoming attitude. Manila is a small seaside town on the Samoa Peninsula, which is home to fisherman, surfers, hippies, and artists. The population in Manila is 1000 people, income ranging from low to medium, as is reflected in the neighborhood. The occasional abandoned vehicle and wandering houseless pedestrians are not an uncommon sight within Manila or the greater Humboldt county.
  • This place is phenomenal. The view is amazing, the interior design is so relaxing and wonderful to stay in, and the kitchen met every need we had.

  • Super gorgeous location on the bay. Very clean and hospitable.

    Sebastian2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place with all the feels of home. I really enjoyed spending time on the back patio with the fire pit and sitting area. We watched the moon rise over the flats, picturesque and perfect!

    Rudolph2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The location right on the bay is fantastic and French doors and windows make the most of the view. The furniture was comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. The bed was super comfy, too. Just a very peaceful, relaxing spot. We enjoyed exploring nearby Arcata (dinner at the Pub and then a trip to Wildberries Market to pick up a few things). All in all, a fabulous place to break our trip down from Portland to LA.

    Judy2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The location on the bay is just gorgeous. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The towels were soft and fluffy and the bed was very comfortable. We will definitely stay here again when we come back through Arcata.

The Redwood Riverwalk Hotel is an independent hotel with 46 units and a team that is here to assist you 24 hours.
The Treehugger room has one king bed.
Located directly off iconic Highway 101 (Redwood Highway) next to three other hotels , restaurant and gas station.
  • We attended an event at the River Lodge and the Tree Hugger room was so convenient .

  • Jeff (owner) was incredibly communicative, offered to make me reservations at restaurants and gave me local tips as my defacto tour guide. I really appreciated the care and attention he took to making sure my stay was pleasant. The service matters. Will definitely revisit.

  • This was a nice place to stay! The room was clean, the breakfast was good and it is conveniently located!

  • Locally owned refurbished hotel, feels like an old classic family resort. Board games, books and comfy chairs in the common room, nice buffet breakfast, very clean rooms with all amenities including fridge and microwave. Set back a block from the riverfront next to a great brewery restaurant and by the other big chain hotels (where I have also stayed)....this place is a hidden gem at a very good price!

    Lisa2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay and loved the extra touches such as the art on the walls of the stairs. The lobby is really nice and the breakfast was great! Our room was very comfortable and we slept well.

    Sherry2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem of a place. The location is perfect, just off the highway yet quiet. Dog friendly with a great outside area. It is an older motel that has been given a new life, with thoughtful and modern touches. The coffee and breakfast are great. The Funky Monkey pizza next door had one of the freshest salads I’ve had, and the pizza was so flavorful. We slept like babies. Highly recommend.

    Susan2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot on the banks of the Eel River, the Redwood Hotel was a perfect oasis for our road trip. The decor in the lobby is super stylish, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful and our host was a wealth of information on the area. We really loved our stay, great place and delicious breakfast to start the next day of our journey.

Colorful corner is a private room tucked away in the back of my house in a quiet area of Eureka . The room has a private entrance off the backyard, with an attached full bath. Since I work full time, I offer keyless entry for ease of convenience. Guests can enjoy the attached deck off the room and relax in a colorful, relaxing yard. The room is a burst of color to contrast with the gray days in Humboldt. The room is a 15 minute walk to the zoo, hiking trails, hospitals, shopping and restaurants.
The guest room, although small, is perfect for one person and cozy for two. Life is too short for white walls! I wanted my space to be unique, fun, and express my personality. I hope it makes you smile! I provide coffee, tea, hot cocoa, bottled water, granola bars and fresh fruit to get your day started. I also provide shampoo and body wash in the walk in shower, and other travel essentials that you may have forgotten.
My home is in a quiet, established and desirable area of east Eureka. I can guarantee you'll have a quiet and restful stay. The majority of restaurants in old town are a quick five minute drive. There are also several restaurants within a 15 minute walk from my house. If you're looking to be in the middle of night life and eateries, my home wouldn't be the best option. The trade off for a restful sleep and quiet neighborhood will definitely differ with the noise and traffic of a downtown room.
  • Absolutely outstanding hospitality and compassion. I would highly recommend staying here.

    Sloane2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place was adorable!!! I haven’t been on a trip alone in awhile, and it was the perfect get away place. I wish I could have stayed more days! The window Pat just had installed in the bathroom gave the perfect amount of light for getting ready in the morning. The kitties were a great bonus too. If this place is available when I come back, I’ll definitely be checking in.

    Kathryn2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay, the room was clean and stylish. Pat is really nice and made sure we had all we need! She also gave us places to go for dinner/breakfast! I definitely recommend

    Marion2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great stay! The place was cozy and little snacks and water bottle were convenient. Pat was really kind and responsive.

    Jeeyun2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Pat’s listing was the perfect locale for a trip to the Redwoods National Forest. The listing is adorably decorated and Pat was so accommodating and welcoming. Will definitely be staying here again when coming through Eureka! You can’t beat the price!

    Logan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Pat is a splendid host! Absolutely marvellous! Not only is she efficient and prompt with her communication, but also she is really friendly and outgoing with regards to meeting personally. The location is relatively easy to get to in town. Pat has decorated the room imaginatively in a "beach house" motif, with those kind of pastel colors; very cute and imaginative. There are plenty of amenities available . . . and Pat has also supplied many current brochures and magazines that guides, etc. The bed is comfortable. There is a private entrance in the back of the house; no need to receive & return a key because electronic key code-lock is in the door. The bathroom, with a shower stall, is private to the room. The room also has a TV, microwave, and a small refrigerator. And . . . for those cold times, a small electric heater is provided! I think that anyone that stayed here would be the thrilled.

    Ray2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Pat was amazing. We loved everything about her and her place. Would definitely go back any chance we get. Thank you again Pat.

Come take a load off in new this cozy spot nestled in lower Arcata. This whimsical room has an elegant and pleasant feel with that element of magic.... Just 20 miles to the North is the beautiful coastal town of Trinidad, home to some of the most Pristine beaches in the state. Just 15 miles north of that are some of the nicest forested trails you will ever get the chance to hike and gorgeous Fern Canyon. Bright and cozy 1 bedroom, 1 bath apartment located in one of Eureka’s premier neighborhoods. Just a minute or two drive to shops, restaurants, and/or hospital depending on the purpose of your stay.
Our guest suite is located in a very quiet, well-maintained neighborhood. We provide our guests with their own parking space just a couple steps away from their own private entrance. It has several amenities to add to the comfort of your stay. There is a living area with a large flat screen tv and sectional sofa.
