  • This home was absolutely gorgeous and spacious . A very well equipped kitchen with Keurig, electric kettle, coffee percolator, toaster, stove, two fridges, microwave and everything you could possibly need. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash provided. Can accommodate a large group as many sleeping options including 2 pull out couches as well as 4 bedrooms. Close to Baddeck for grocery store and liquor store. Host were quick in responding to inquiries. I highly recommend this home, it was just delightful. • This is a great place to stay. Natural wood floors, three large bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, separate dining room and lounge. There is a good garden space (but we didn't have time to take advantage during our short stay)

    David2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer and Jans have a great spot in Englishtown. We enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to others. Lots of space for larger groups especially when using the guest house. The older home has been cared for well by Jennifer and Jans.

The St. Anns lighthouse was built in 1905. This was a working lighthouse until 1962. We are restoring it and adding some modern luxuries for our guests to enjoy. The lighthouse is located in St. Anns, directly on the water. On the Cabot Trail. We are centrally located for you to enjoy all of what Cape Breton has to offer. Travel around the beautiful and scenic Cabot Trail. Enjoy the beautiful stars at night, and picturesque views of St. Ann’s Bay. The Gaelic College is just a few minutes away.
Stay at one of the most famous addresses in Canada, the Cabot Trail and at our decommissioned lighthouse. We started renovations in June 2018 and we have completed our first stage in time to open in August 2018. Every year we tackle a few more projects, in the fall 2018 we installed a new red metal roof, it looks amazing! In 2019 we enhanced the interior with shiplap walls, new kitchen floor, new storm door, moved and added a new wood stove to a center location and installed new trim work, keeping the historical Lighthouse in mind with every detail. This lighthouse has so much history. Follow us on Facebook, lighthouse on the Bay and watch our progress. The lighthouse is best suited for 2 guests. It’s super cozy with a king bed (Casper mattress) in the bedroom, and we do have a sofa bed in the living-room space. Our lighthouse is over 100 years old, so with this comes all of its unique features. We love our lighthouse and the natural surroundings, please ask if you have any questions prior to booking. Wake up to the ocean waves, have coffee on your front deck, watch the local fisherman haul up their traps, and take a walk on the beach. Walk our natural beach at low tide, find all kinds of treasures, sea glass and pottery that have washed up. Walk down the beach and find a secluded sandy beach area, bring a chair, beach towel, a little picnic and enjoy. We can help plan your stay, make local suggestions for restaurants, hire a fishing guide, or even provide a lobster dinner. The Gaelic College is just a story drive and Baddeck is 20 minutes. Cape Breton is beautiful. Our lighthouse is located on the bay in St. Anns, where you will see the most spectacular views, and the stars at night are the brightest you will see. Sometimes living in beautiful areas comes with some small inconveniences. Because of our mountains and valleys we can have some areas of the island with poor cell service, including St. Anns. On occasion we might get a local guest come and visit, some of our squirrels try to come in to save food for winter, they never come inside but you might hear them on the roof or the outside wall by the bathroom. Our closest grocery store is about 20 minutes away, in Baddeck. Yes, another inconvenience, but the only traffic jam will be the locals kayaking out front, some seals swimming by or eagles soaring by.
There is so much to see and do in St Ann's and all across Cape Breton. Locals love our varied cultures, and delight in the out-of-doors, as well. So many hiking trails, waterfalls, artisan shops, local restaurants, museums and music venues all across the island. The out-of-doors will always offer opportunities to enjoy our views and active lifestyles. Grab your fishing rod and head out along the streams and rivers that flow through our woods. Or try your hand at fishing for mackerel on the Jersey Cove shore. You can even dig for clams in the bay. In summer, take a boat tour out to the Bird Islands, nesting grounds of the Atlantic Puffin. Or kayak in the world-famous North River. St Ann's Bay is also famous for our world-class artisans. From May through November, you will find these folk busy creating stunning pieces in all kinds of media — you're welcome to watch them work. In the off-seasons, call ahead. In summer, plan to take a couple of days to visit every one!
  • This space is even better than the pictures can reveal. It is a wonderful space to hang out in and a perfect location to explore Cape Breton. Every detail has been thought about. The bed is extremely comfortable. It is very clean and beautiful. The views are absolutely breathtaking. We hope we can get back there soon.

    Karin2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for 6 days during Celtic Colours. The property is superb in every way. It is ideally located close to the Gaelic College and Baddeck, giving you easy access to many of the excellent music and cultural events. John and Rosella are superb hosts.

    Wayne2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • It doesn't get any better than that. The lighthouse truly is one of the best accomodations we have had so far. Every detail is well thought out and arranged with love. The location and view are awesome. Plus the nice supplies that our hosts provided, including a bottle of wine. We would love to return one day.

    Axel2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had the most wonderful time at this beautiful lighthouse - we are bummed we didnt book for longer! The view, fireplace, comfortable bed... everything was perfect. If this lighthouse is available, book it now!! Will def be back again! Hosts were awesome to communicate with and made our stay easy and fun! Thank you :)

    Jamie2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the Lighthouse for three nights on our honeymoon and couldn’t have loved it more! It was cozy, awe inspiring and beautiful all in one shot. Rosella and John were the perfect hosts, and we hope to return some day!

    Marg2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • A real gem run by two very thoughtful hosts!

    Bruce2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rosella and John's place was truly amazing! We had such an fantastic stay in Cape Breton. The Lighthouse was clean, spacious and had everything we needed and more! Our hosts went truly out of their way to make our stay extra special. We really enjoyed waking up to the ocean views, kayaking on the bay and spending time up at the top of the lighthouse. We would definitely recommend staying here!

    Meredith2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place and we enjoyed our stay a lot. The lighthouse is a very special place and was one of our favorites during our 3 weeks in Nova Scotia. Rosella and John are wonderful hosts, easy to communicate with and always available for questions and tips. We only had 2 nights but we found everyting we needed for the stay. We did not have the time to use all the available thinks like the Weber grill on the terrace or the canoes to scout the sea. This is really a place to calm down. The interior design is beautiful and perfectly fit to the whole nice atmospere in the kitchen/living room. You always have the view over the sea and there is also an white-headed sea eagle flying around. We never saw one from such a short distance. Very impressive. I can strongly recommend this place. We had a wonderful and relaxed time and we plan to come back but then for a longer time. Thanks a lot Rosella and John for sharing this place with other people :-)

  • So glad I stayed at Loril’s place. Great location for all the Cabot trial activities. Full kitchen so I could make all my meals at home. Very comfortable bed. Loril was great to communicate with and very accommodating. No cell service but very fast internet. Thanks for a great stay :)

    Ben2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Loril's place was a great space for a mini retreat in the Highlands. Beautifully decorated and a good location for a hiking trip.

    Esther2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, great host, ideal location to explore a lot of the Cabot Trail during the day. Quiet in the evenings with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. Loril was very responsive. I would definitely recommend!

    Shannon2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Loril's place on the Cabot Trail. The place is very stylish and well-appointed, with all the appliances and cooking supplies you'd need. She is well situated for touring the Cabot Trail. Heed her warning about proximity to gas and grocery though! As you pass through Baddeck, you are entering a bit of a food and gas dessert.

    David2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Superior place to stay. Spacious, comfortable, lovely setting, gracious host, lots of books to make up for poor internet reception in the area. Recommend highly.

    Wilma2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cabins, private area. Lots of yard space for the dogs. Wooded area great for birdwatching and other wildlife

    Annika2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a private place to stay on Cabot Trail, look no further. Convenient to highland trails, lobster supper in Baddeck, fabulous scenery...and much more!

    Catherine2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Loril’s place is located along a quieter part of the Cabot trail. It had everything we needed for our 2 day stay including a charcoal BBq. We brought our own portable propane bbq. Her place was very clean, tastefully decorated farmhouse style and bed was very comfortable. She also had a supply of books games and puzzles. There was no TV but the wifi worked great. We were gone all day and home around supper time. Lots of hiking trails around. Loril was quick to answer any questions we had and supplied us with information about the area. I would definitely recommend this place to rent Michele and Dwayne

Thank you so much for the bottle of wine, and for sharing your beautiful spot. We can’t wait to return again and enjoy more of this beautiful property. Highly recommend. • Me and my boyfriend stayed here a few days for my birthday, Marlene was not only a very accommodating and understanding host, she added little touches to the house that made it extra special! The view and hot tub were the cherry on top and I will definitely be returning again to the spot!

    Sarah2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • I have stayed for 3 nights . Location is perfect with great lake view and sparkling clean . Marlene is great host.

    Alireza2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Very well appointed space with thoughtful touches. Marlene was an excellent host, quick to respond and quite friendly. Great location just outside of Baddeck and basically right on the Cabot trail. Would definitely recommend!

    Peter2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures of this place ought to be enough to prompt you to reserve it. You see that fantastic view? It is ultra clean and comfortable. The kitchen is better equipped than the one I have at home! Beds are comfortable. Netflix/Amazon Prime, jacuzzi, what else do you need??? Around the corner from the Cabot Trail. You will want to spend the whole time sitting out on that deck. Marlene is super nice and accommodating. Stop reading reviews now and reserve it before someone else gets it!!!

    Mark2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent home! Would recommend to everyone. Marlene was an excellent host . Home was beautiful, well maintained and the hot tub is an added bonus!

    Joanne2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures don’t do it justice. Pics are great but actual cottage is amazing! Kitchen has everything you could ever need and fridge full of condiments for your use which is such a nice touch. Decorated perfectly, view is breathtaking and hummingbirds entertain as you have coffee on the deck. We can’t think Of one thing that Maureen did not have in the house for our family of 4. Hot tub outside and Milky Way visible is like national geographic! Great location for Cabot Trail and Cape Breton. Maureen communicated quick and check in was a breeze as we rolled in at 11pm on a very dark room. It is a magical cottage !

    Conni2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cottage! Very well equipped, modern, clean and has beautiful views. Location is perfect for trips to Baddeck, Cabot Trail and Louisbourg. Marlene is very easy to communicate with and she provides everything you’ll need. This is a very private location, we so enjoyed the fire pit and star gazing. Thanks Marlene hopefully we can be back someday soon,

Englishtown Cape Breton Island, NS, Canada

The perfect home-base for exploring Cape Breton, or a clean and comfortable seaside retreat, MacLeod Cove is a 3-bedroom winterized cottage on the Bras d'Or, Cape Breton's beautiful inland sea. Enjoy ocean views and semi-private cove, within 25 minutes drive of Baddeck, North Sydney (Newfoundland ferry terminal), and the Cabot Trail. The cottage is also very private and surrounded by pristine natural environments of forest, creek and cove. Wildlife sightings are common both on land and in the sea. The cottage is fresh and clean with new paint, flooring, appliances and furniture.
We inherited this home from my mother who was a smoker but it has been a strictly smoke-free space since February of 2017. In order to make it clean and comfortable both for our family of non-smokers as well as for you, we removed or cleaned all furniture. We replaced all upholstered furniture, beds, bedding, towels and rugs. We removed all carpeting and replaced it with new carpet or vinyl flooring. We washed every surface, every outlet, and all fixtures. We also replaced the fridge and stove, as well as all of the small appliances. We primed and then painted all of the walls. We have a house keeper who will ensure that the windows are opened, and the cottage is freshly cleaned prior to your arrival with clean linens on the beds, and floors and counters freshly sanitized.
This is very much a private retreat into nature. Our neighbours on one side are about 100 feet away and on the other side, are across our small valley. For the most part, you can't see any neighbours either from the house or the cove. Wildlife is common: many species of birds, fox and other animals populate the area. It is not uncommon to spot a seal swimming by from the cove. The nearest towns are 20 minutes drive or about 25 miles in either direction, so a little planning ahead is required in order to have supplies and groceries on hand. There is an excellent seafood restaurant very nearby - about 8 minutes by car, across the bridge. Gas and Tim Hortons coffee are a little closer as well - about 15 minutes away by car. Within a short drive of the house are long beaches for walking, as well as a natural fresh water fall with a pool for (very chilly) swimming. The house sits directly on the sea, at the base of Kelly's mountain. In the fall, the colours on the mountain are spectacular. The 2 nearest towns are Baddeck and North Sydney. Baddeck is a very popular a picturesque town with a beautiful lighthouse, shops, galleries, many restaurants and both an excellent museum and golf course. The nearest medical center is in Baddeck. North Sydney is a port town with all the necessities: large grocery stores, banks, and restaurants. It is also the location of the Newfounland Ferry docks. An hour away is the much larger port city of Sydney that has all of the amenities as well as the airport which is the only entry point to Cape Breton for travelers arriving by commercial aircraft.
  • Fantastic place and amazing value for what you get - great location and would definitely return there again

    Damien2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location! Beautiful spot :)

    Korinne2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. The house is as pictured. Excellent location for Celtic Colours festival.

    Benjamin2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cozy little cottage made for the perfect fall get away. It had everything we needed to cook meals, it was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Getting there was no problem with google maps. There are also some really nice hiking trails within a 30 minute drive. We loved the beautiful view and sitting on the deck watching the water. There isn’t any wifi at this cottage, but we found we didn’t need it. Cell phone reception was perfectly fine! This is a lovely and very relaxing spot, would go back for sure!

    Brittany2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great cottage. You will have great views of the water. The kitchen has everything you need. There are nice decorator touches throughout the home. The cottage was very clean. We found the location to be very convenient for our itinerary. We wanted, of course, to do the Cabot Trail, but also see Louisbourg. This location was a good compromise. You will feel like you are in the woods ( which you are), but amenities are not far away. Follow Sheila’s suggestions for the 2 cafes. They were great. If I am fortunate to be able to return to Cape Breton Island, I would definitely like to stay here again.

    Susan2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a truly beautiful, secluded location above a cove which can be accessed down a steep path to a small beach. There is a large deck area which looks out to the water, a gas BBQ, and a line for hanging washing. Inside the house is tastefully furnished throughout. The kitchen is very well equipped but note there is no microwave oven. Downstairs is a lounge with an amazing selection of dvds for movie nights. Louisbourg Fortress is only about an hours drive and it is well worth planning a whole day for your visit. Baddeck is a pretty town beside the lake. Hurricane Dorian prevented us from travelling further afield. Sheila really is a super host - she allowed us to stay an unplanned extra night as we were advised not to drive in the aftermath of the hurricane. We would fully recommend Macleod Cove as an outstanding place to stay when visiting Cape Breton.

    Tony2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Sheila’s place was gorgeous! Easy communication and check in was the icing on the cake. Everything was as expected, and close to everything we wanted to do and see during our stay.

    Michelle2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a great place to use as home base for day exploring from Baddeck to Louisbourg and the areas central to The Big Bras d'Or lakes. This is it. It is immaculate, well appointed and with a great kitchen for any range of meal. Morning coffee on the deck is super quiet and serene, it was like living in the Canadian wilds but just a quick drive out to the noisy Trans Canada Highway 105 and people/places/things.

  • This is a great place and we had a good time. The house was wonderful and spacious. The view from the house was spectacular. It is in close proximity to the ferry to cross over to the Cabot Trail. It has a playground for the kids, a pool and some general amenities in the general store on the camp ground. The place also had a washer/dryer which was great.

  • Nice cottage in beautiful location. Worth for the money you're paying. My stay was memorable. Wifi, cable connection, dvds, telephone, washer and every thing you need in stay are there. If you are traveling in fall or winter, expect cold weather for a while, as the heating is off and it will take few hours to warm up the cottage.

  • Jeff's place was VERY clean. The heat pump in the living room was very useful as it was a bit cold in the morning. For people who visit Cabot Trail this place is ideal as the ferry terminal for the trail is literally across the road. Our 3 nights stay was so enjoyable and we made lots of great memories. Thank you, Jeff.

  • Great location, sparkling clean. A very usable well equipped kitchen. Good bathroom. Comfortable living sofas. Bed was good too. We travel as nomad's these days and finding places to relax in isn't always easy on a budget. I felt I made no compromises in this cottage. This place was comfortable and embracing. A great location for getting around. Quiet at night. Anything you might need was in the cottage. I highly recommend. Deborah and Blake

  • Jeff’s cottage is very private with a lovely deck to listen to the ocean. There is everything you need to feel at home and I highly recommend it. Jeff was always very quick to answer any questions I had.

Beautiful, rustic cabin sits cozily surrounded by woodlands. This one room retreat boasts a south west vista of the Bras d'Or Lake, inlcudes a veranda with gorgeous sunsets, king size bed, access to the beach and kayaks. What more could you want! It is half way between Baddeck and Sydney and a perfect spot for anyone travelling the Cabot Trail. Restaurants very close by.
This small, non smoking, cozy cabin is a great base camp from which to explore Cape Breton Island. It can comfortably sleep 2 adults and 2 children on the futon. From here, travellers are equidistant from the Cabot trail and all things West, to the Fortress of Louisbourg and other sites in Cape Breton. Or simply stay "home" and walk to the private beach where you can go Geocaching by kayak! The views from the property and beach are sunfilled and relaxing. Please contact the host on the day of arrival as check in can often be earlier than 5pm as well there are times that the check out is flexible.
Although not central in the urban sense, Boularderie Island is central to Cape Breton Island, thus ideal for touring all four counties. Here is the breakdown: Start of the Cabot Trail: 12 minutes Baddeck: 22 minutes St. Anns Gaelic College: 12 minutes North Sydney: 15 minutes Sydney: 30 minutes Louisbourg: 55 minutes
  • The pictures don’t do it justice! This cabin is the cutest. Really modern rustic decor makes it super cozy. Hosts provided all kinds of extra perks like coffee, treats and really interesting books. There’s also games, cards and of course the kayaks. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the view. Great hosts, great cabin and great stay.

  • Very quiet and a lovely cabin.

  • A great cabin in a great location. Easy access from cabin to the Trans Canada 105. The cabin was warm and cosy, with a supremely comfortable bed and excellent shower. Jody is a wonderful host and made sure we had everything we needed. We would heartily recommend this cabin as a base for exploring Cape Breton

  • Such a relaxing place, we loved our stay. Great fun to be able to take the kayaks out for a quick paddle before sunset. Huge comfortable bed. Would definitely recommend, one of the best air bnbs we have stayed in!

  • September 10-13,2019 The Woodsy Cabin was everything we hoped it would be and more. The location was secluded, yet close enough to amenities (restaurants, etc.) and a great "jump off" point to begin our Cabot Trail adventure. The space itself is warm, comfortable and inviting and the bed....perfect. We were greeted with a lovely welcome note and pleasantly surprised with goodies of popcorn, chocolates and such. Super sweet and appreciated. To have popcorn by the campfire our first night, looking up at the star filled sky was pretty special. Jody and Parker provided everything needed in the event we planned on staying put i.e. utensils, hot plate, grill, coffee maker, etc. The home was clean, thoughtfully decorated and just a nice space to be in. We particularly appreciated the books by the bedside sharing the local history. It's those added touches that add up. The front deck is perfect for morning coffee or evening glass of wine even if bundled up in a blanket. And I would be remiss to not mention the kayaks!! We spent a morning kayaking to Seal Island bridge, past the lighthouse and back. It was serene; the water calm. I would recommend the Woodsy Cabin. Jody was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any question I had. Thank you, Jody & Parker for a memorable stay.

Beautiful 4 bedroom historic home on large acreage. The home has fabulous views of St Ann’s Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and the Highlands. Only 2 mins to Englishtown Ferry and the start of the world famous Cabot Trail. Relax on the porch and enjoy the stunning sunsets over the highlands, listen to the ocean waves crashing on the shore. Walk the beach looking for treasures or take a hike on the mountain acreage.
This home has been partially renovated but many original features remain. With a large well equipped kitchen you can cook up anything your hearts desire. The living room features a very comfy oversized couch with large television and fabulous views of the ocean and highlands. There are 4 good sized bedrooms and a separate dining room for everyone’s comfort.
Englishtown is know for its friendly community and annual Mussel Festival. There’s fresh lobster daily to be bought straight from the wharf from local fishermen and pay a visit to the Giant Macaskills Museum to discover the areas history and learn about this famous giant.
  • Together with my friends, I had an amazing time at this beautiful house. The view was breathtaking and it was located on a very central place (especially if you want to do the Cabot Trail). Before she accepted our booking she warned us about getting a decent car in order to get there (it was in the middle of winter) and that was a very good tip. The place was clean and well maintained. The only downside was that the wifi wasn't strong enough to stream a movie on Netflix or anything. So if you plan on doing a movie night, be sure to bring them by yourself. And eventhough we never got to see Rebecca, she responded extremely fast if we had any questions or problems and we had an amazing time at her place.

    Joelle2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca was a pleasure to do with, very quick to respond and went above and beyond to accommodate us.

    Chantal2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca’s place is absolutely stunning and very spacious - perfect for larger groups. The kitchen has all the appliances you could possibly need and all the rooms are beautiful. Everything was very clean and check-in couldn’t have been easier. Thanks for a great stay!

    Sydney2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Fiddlehead Farm. This house is in a great location (only a couple minutes from the cable ferry) We had a little trouble with the heating but it was sorted very quickly. There is only one bathroom on the second level and this was a little bit of an issue for five people. Other than that I would highly recommend this lovely, older home for your visit.

    Pamela2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • The farm house is located very close to the English town ferry which is the beginning (or end!) of the Cabot trail. The view is breathtaking, we very much enjoyed the sunsets over the mountains. The front porch is great for watching the sunsets. Very peaceful place to relax and disconnect from our busy world. The place has everything you need and 20min away from groceries in the lovely town of Baddeck. We wished there was a back porch to eat outside since it was so hot during our stay but other than that we had a great time and loved our adventure in cape Breton!

    Veronique2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our family just had a wonderful stay at Rebecca’s home. The proximity of her home to many lookouts, as well as to the Englishtown Ferry that takes you onto the Cabot Trail was a major bonus. The views were spectacular and the amenities at her place were fantastic. Rebecca was easy to get a hold of when we had any questions. We would definitely stay here again if ever visiting Cape Breton.

    Emily2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing place to stay for a vacation in Cape Breton. The house was beautiful, with all the amenities you could want. We have never been to a place so well equipped. If you forgot anything you didn't have to worry as it was there. Rebecca has thought of everything. The house was very clean and comfortable. The views are spectacular, and we never got tired of sitting on the front porch looking out onto the water. It was so quiet and peaceful, and is the perfect place to rest and relax. For those travelling with children, there is a huge backyard to play, and endless toys and books to entertain them. It is in an excellent location and is central to most tourist sites you want to go to on the island. a Cape Breton paradise. We will definitely be back. Thank you Rebecca...….

    Patricia2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful house with amazing view. Kitchen was very good equipped and children room was full with nice toys. Our little son loved it from the very beginning. Living room was very cozy and bedrooms well decorated. One of the had a huge bed. We were there only for four days and if we were not coming from far away (Europe) we would definitely come back for a longer stay.

  • If you are looking for a place to stay so that you can experience the Cabot trail this is the perfect spot. Located near the start of the trail (right off the trail yet in a tranquil country setting). The home is very welcoming and decorated beautifully - the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to visit the Cabot trail. Plan ahead as the closest store or gas station is about 30 minutes away but once you are there you can settle in for a relaxing visit that makes you feel like you are at home. Most importantly Beth is very quick to answer your questions and is very helpful with the information she provides

    Debbie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Chris and Beth’s place was beautiful and very well kept! Clean, elegantly furnished with a fully stocked kitchen, and all the information you need is provided before you arrive! Definitely felt like a home away from home!

  • This is a wonderful stylish home nestled in a tranquil location. The amenities are fantastic and Elizabeth and Chris are incredibly attentive and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer spot to stay to enjoy Cape Breton.

    Kathryn2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing and spotless! Perfectly located right on the Cabot trail (made it super easy to explore) and Elizabeth was awesome in giving us great tips for our stay. Check in and check out was very efficient and easy. Kitchen has everything you need to cook, picking up groceries/filling up gas in Baddeck was a great tip. With the H. Dorian making its way to Cape Breton we also really appreciated that the home was well equipped with supplies should their have been an outage. Thanks for a great experience and the warm hospitality - will definitely be back to this beautiful home when we are back in Cape Breton!

  • Amazing place! So cozy and beautiful - great place for a fire under the Milky Way or for a toasty day inside with the wood stove running. Conveniently right off of the Cabot Trail too. Well insulated space - we were very comfortable there at the end of October. Thomas was a great host and got back to me very quickly anytime I had a question or needed anything. Highly recommended place.

  • Super cool little spot and the perfect location for exploring the Cabot Trail and all that Cape Breton has to offer. The place was spotless and everything worked great in the unit. The property and the view was also an unexpected surprise. The weather was on our side and we got to enjoy a little time sitting on the deck and taking in the serenity. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to relax and enjoy the country.

  • Great cottage!! Incredible location. Perfect spot to view the sunrise. Very well kept. Clean and cozy. Had a great time!! Very quick, welcoming, and helpful responses from Thomas. First experience with Airbnb and cottages and it was lovely!

    Arooba2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, comfortable and clean cabin with lovely views in beautiful Cape Breton. Make sure to get clear instructions on how to arrive at this cabin as there is no cell service in the area and it is not directly off the main road. I would also suggest arriving during daylight hours both for the view and the ability to locate the property. This is great place to stay before driving the Cabot Trail.

    Kim2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • A little hidden gem!! Just wish we would have got there earlier to have a fire in the fire pit! Sat on deck for our breakfast and had the a view of the ocean and were surrounded with the autumn colours!! Super quaint. Will DEFINITELY stay again! The neighbourhood We are located just 3km's off the World Famous Cabot Trail at 645 Murray Rd. The area is called St. Ann's Bay and it the home to many great artisans. Courtney2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Angelo’s space was magical! An absolutely enchanted experience. The cabins sit in a beautiful wooded area on the water. The structures are beautiful - the cabins each unique, the wash house very clean and the cooking space a great place to hang. He has a great observation deck. My girls and I had a blast and enjoyed all the thoughtful touches! Angelo offered great tips on nearby activities. We will be back.

    Karly2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • What can we really say to put this creation into words that will do it justice. The cabins are modernly quaint. The view from the dock stunning. Angelo has put so much thought and love into every detail of the spaces. From the keychain, to the stained glass, the ironwork on the lofts, curtains, their tie backs. There is a guitar in every cabin with some instruction, be sure to pick it up and give it a try! Also, be sure to ask to listen to Angelo's music, you will certainly appreciate it. We could go on and on, but you really just need to see and experience this for yourself and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Thank you Angelo!

  • Thank you so much for everything Carmel and John, we really loved our stay and had everything we needed and more. The caravan was very cosy and we felt very welcome and at home! Tapadh leibh!

  • We were pleasantly surprised by Carmel's trailer. It was really spacious, cozy and clean. It had all we needed for our stay and more. Little attentions like candies, nuts, coffee, cold beverages, additional towels/blankets, books, movies, radio and wood to make fire were much appreciated. The firepit was set up in a really nice way. The landscape around the trailer was magnificient. We also had the chance to run into deers at one point. We sometimes had issues with hot water in the shower. The trailer is a bit far from the main road and stores/shop and has no wifi to plan activities. Nevertheless, we were told we could go to the house if we wanted to have wifi and the long private entrance (1.7km) was beautiful and enjoyable. Finally, Carmel was always answering fast on airbnb and gave us tips about nice hikes on the island at our arrival (we highly recommend her detailed book on hikes). We would definitely come back to stay there.

  • very comfortable camper in a great location on the Cabot Trail and near the Gaelic College... our hosts were very thoughtful and left coffee, tea, cream, milk, yogurt and nuts for us and left a pile of dry firewood and kindling after the rain... we loved the property and the hummingbirds

    Jeannette2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place for tranquility and to meet in nature on the domain of the hosts, but away and in peace. Nothing is missing in the trailer, everything is there, in addition to a small gazebo and a place for the fire. Hummingbirds will come regularly to greet you and you will surely have the chance to hear 1 or 2 owls. Carmel showed us her pond with her big trout and gave us a demonstration of her looms in the workshop where she welcomes her few students in the fall.

    Stefan2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • The location of this airbnb is very convenient. It is at the very entrance of the Cabot Trail. It was a quite place, ideal for anyone who wants to have some peaceful time off. This goes without saying that the hosts were absolutely fantastic as well. I would highly recommend it!

The 110 plus acres that The Country Cabin is situated on, we are told, was one of the most prosperous homesteads in the area. The Cabin is nestled on a hill in the apple orchard offering our guests privacy and tranquility. Our guests have 350 square feet of country comfort with additional space on the screened in porch and the adjoining deck with lawn chairs.
We offer a wonderful home base in which to experience the beauty and majesty of Cape Breton Island. We are located on the world famous Cabot Trail and the property offers a view of the lovely North River.
We are located in the beautiful St. Anne's area with a view of the North River. Be prepared to enjoy our wild life. We have seen some of the following animals on our property and also in the surrounding area---fox, deer, moose, raccoons, coyotes and bobcats. We enjoy seeing the follow birds --- bald eagles, grouse, blue jays, chickadees, finch and more. Should you require laundry facilities there is one in Baddeck at 507 Chebutco Street behind “Victoria Creates”. Laundry Mat is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 7 days a week. Soap and dryer sheets are available in Victoria Creates Gallery. For more information please talk to the staff in the Gallery.
  • An absolutely charming little cabin! Home away from home with every detail looked after. Even cookies on the table when we arrived. Morning coffee is my favorite time of day and there is no better place to enjoy it then in the screen porch. So peaceful surrounded by nature. We look forward to returning for a longer stay next time!

  • Lovely little cabin in the woods. Well equipped with a comfortable bed! Clean and quiet. Right on the Cabot Trail--about 20-30 minutes from Baddeck and 20-30 minutes from Englishtown where there's a wonderful Bird Island boat ride. Highly recommend!

  • Camille's country cabin was just as charming as expected. It's cozy but has everything that you need, and is full of personal touches. The veranda is great and spacious, all protected with mosquito netting. Camille's house is not far, but the cabin is hidden behind trees, so you have the impression of being alone in the woods. The location was perfect for driving up and down the east coast of the trail. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable 2 bedroom house with newly renovated kitchen and bathroom. A 15 minute drive to the Cabot Trail and Gaelic College, 25 minutes to Baddeck, 15 to 20 to North Sydney and Newfoundland Ferry. You can walk to 2 local restaurants and bakery (summertime). 15 minute drive down the road to the Ross Ferry Marine Park for swimming, outdoor gym equipment or visit the weekly farmers market(summertime). Visit me at the Den of Antiquity, part-time antique shop I run in the backyard garage.
This house has been my home and my antique shop in this location. Each room has been freshly painted and filled with some of my favorite things, old pine furniture, folk art, colourful quilts and comfortable sofa. It's a put your feet on the coffee table sort of place. Enjoy watching the sun set over Kelly's Mountain! I provide a some dvds, books, games and there is always some snacks around just in case you're late getting in. There is wi-fi, and strong cell service in my location. I operate my shop in the garage next to the house, 11am to 4pm, 4 days a week.
The very best part of Boularderie is the people. Neighbours look out for each other but also respect people's privacy. This is a community of year round residents and summer people and all are welcome. 10 to 15 minutes from a couple of beaches. 5 minutes from an easy hiking/snowshoeing trail.

The Bosun's Chair is great for adventurous couples, singles, or families. Situated on the Old Cabot Trail half-way between Baddeck and Ingonish, the Bosun's Chair is 2 km from the scenic Englishtown Ferry. There are a number of local hiking trails and a multitude of craft shops - most attached to their studios. The lower portion of the property is a 300' wide stretch of private pebble beach. And - new for 2018 - we are offering 1/2 and full day sailing instruction aboard our 37' sailing sloop.
  • Property was beautiful and the host was extremely helpful and accommodating. Great place for quiet and relaxation.

  • Super very clean house with a lot of amenities. Perhaps less recommendable for families with young children (staircase without guard and beach less easy to access). Daniel is a great host!

    Marie-France2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Daniel was a great host. The home was a great central location, and the private beach and wooded property made a great setting. Thank you forthe stay.

  • (English follows) Our week-long stay at Daniel went without any problem. Even the sun was in the game! Discreet and efficient home; the owner offers to sail on his sailing boat Eva-Jade the day after our arrival. We discover in a few hours of navigation the breathtaking beauty of Baie Sainte-Anne. Daniel, excellent skipper, willingly leaves us the bar to go upwind as downwind. His boat is equipped with the best navigation instruments and we feel safe with this accomplished sailor. We will have the opportunity to sail again during our stay. While touring the Cape Breton region, with his tips, we discovered Louisbourg, the cabot trail, Ingonish, Cheticamp. Not to mention the culinary escapades, including the famous lobster restaurant Gabriel in Chéticamp, one of the Acadian capitals. The proximity of the beach has allowed us to collect excellent mussels which we will remember for a long time. Bosum's Chair is a perfect holiday destination for those who want to rest in the heart of nature. The view of the bay is exceptional. With family, friends, couples, with or without children, the place is ideal to stay in Cape Breton. Our stay of a week at Daniel's, took place without any problem. Even the sun was in on this! Discreet and effective welcoming; the owner suggests us sailing his sailboat "Eva-Jade" from the day after our arrival. We discovered in a few hours of sailing, the astonishing beauty of Saint-Ann's Bay. Daniel, excellent Skeeper, left us gladly to go back to the wind. His boat is equipped with the best state-of-the-art navigation instruments and we feel in perfect safety with this accomplished sailor. We have the opportunity to go back to our favorite place. During excursions in the region of Cape Breton, thanks to his advices, we discover Louisbourg, the cabot trail, Ingonish, Cheticamp. Without forgetting the culinary escapades, in particular the famous lobster of the Gabriel restaurant in Cheticamp, one of the Acadian main village. The closeness of the beach is a good place to collect excellent mussels which we will remember for a long time. The Bosum's chair is a complete holiday resort for those in the heart of nature. The view on the bay is exceptional. In family, with friends, in couple, ... the place is ideal to stay in Cape Breton.

Very private summer home located in the quiet community of New Harris, at the base of Kelly's Mountain. This location is 20 minutes from groceries and other amenities in either direction, Baddeck or North Sydney. Many beaches in the area, access to the Cabot Trail within 20 minutes, and very close to the Gaelic College. 20 minutes to bell bay golf course and 75 minutes from Cabot cliffs or Cabot links.
this home has a ton of natural light, the brook at the bottom of the stairs creates a very peaceful environment to relax. there is a wood fire place in the basement, some fire wood is available depending on the time of year or previous renters use.
  • Mark's home is absolutely perfect for us. We went to Cape Breton to experience the Celtic Colours. We were two couples. When we found this BNB on line we were drawn to it being secluded but we were also concerned about it being secluded. Our GPS took us down the "top" road to the home (this is the longer way around. There is an entrance on the bottom of the hill - bottom of Kelly's Mountain. It is shorter) Having said that we were thrilled to have takenmthe top road, because 3 foxes greeted us at the top of the road. They were hoping to get a handout but even though we would love to have given these little guys something it is not the right thing to do. So we got tons of pictures while we sat safely in our vehicle. The gravel driveway up to the home has incrdible trees on both sides all in stunning colours. This road opened up to the home. It was more than we wished for. There is a set of stairs and landings down to a stream. we went there a few times. It had heavily rained for a day and the stream was really running. I can imagine this area in the summer being a great place to relax and take in the shallow clean pools. The home itself was truly a homey home. Lots of towels, pantry with many stocked items, tons of pots and pans, lots of wine glasses, plates, forks and knives for probably about 18. It had a couple draws like most people have at home.Filled with scotch tape, elastics, lighters, pads of paper, random items. We did not use the large loft. But it had a sectional up there with lots of movies and games. There was also a fan in the cieling up there that would be a benifit in the hot summers to keep the air flowing. The washer and dryer was on the bottome floor with two other bedrooms. They worked well. Note: the dryer was pushed back and squished the vent tube in the back. Our stuff was having along time to dry before we figured this out. Just needed to pull machine forward and it fixed the issue. Wood store on bottom floor. We never used it but it is there. Gas stove on main floor. We did not use it but would be nice on a cool night. There was also a great screened in deck to the side of the house off main floor. Lots of pation furniture. We did not get a chance to use it except we did appreciate to be able to open the doors for some fresh air, knowing that bugs would get in. The beauty that we awoke to every morning was incredible. Another big thing for us was there was not a list a mile long of things to not do and a list of thing we had to do before we checkedc out. Mark was in contact weeks before we arrived answering questions that we had. There was a greeting message as we checked in to make sure things were ok. In fact we sent him a message in the morning of our departure to see if we had overlook the typical list of things to do. The message back was, if we had not left yet, to please throw on a load in the washer, put the key in the lock box and to have a great trip. That was it! Sush a great experience! Would highly recommend. PS IF you are going to the the Celtic Colours in October. Even though events are booked up early there seemed to be ticket available at most events on the last days. Put your name on the wait ist. Also Mark had mentioned to us to go to the Galeac University - VERY close by. They have the "after party" every night starting at 11 pm. going on to 3 or 4 am. This is were many of the headliners would go and jam after all the events. We did not take it in. It was just to late for us BUT next time we will for sure do it. Reports were over the top about it.

  • Great location in the middle of Cape Breton.

    Bob2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Modern, well-appointed and very comfortable vacation home on a high-quality gravel road. Mark communicated well, the check-in was easy, and there were good instructions about features of the house. Three living room spaces, including a carpeted loft, a bright kitchen and dining area, and a great screened-in porch for sitting and eating. There is also a most impressive series of platforms and stairs that go from the home down to a creek below and a large deck where we enjoyed sitting and reading. A very pleasant accommodation that we’d be pleased to return to.

  • Super stay in this very comfortable and beautiful house. Well situated for different activities in the Cabot Trail. Nice DVD collection for the kids and the kitchen is very well equipped. Very sunny living space.

  • Couldn't have asked for a better host. Great communicator and beautiful home - loved the location and it's perfect for a family or as was the case with us ...our bachelorette getaway Close to a nice beach and groceries too! Has all your basics and more - we were able to cook all our meals and save $$. Thanks again Mark!

    Sheffy2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really good experience staying here with 6 people total. It was only a short drive to access the Cabot Trail, and we were able to discover good beaches and hikes within a 30 minute drive. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. It was great to be able to sit in nature and enjoy the quiet while having a barbecue in the screened-in area of the patio, or have a bonfire. The only small drawback for us was that it was a little bit of a far drive to both Baddeck and Sydney (20-25 minutes to either). However, if you're attending an event at the Gaelic College, this is an ideal place to stay

    David2019-08-05T00:00:00Z

Beautiful, light-filled, well-equipped, and non-smoking century farmhouse on 70 acres in gorgeous Goose Cove, only one minute from the world famous Cabot Trail.
Tranquil, organic property. Decorated with quality furnishings and art work, this property is a retreat for the nature lover. Open plan living/dining room, a large eat-in kitchen, and access to the beautiful grounds and pond. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a full bathroom. Please note that there are no blinds/curtains on the windows, as clearly shown in the many images of the property. The property is entirely private, with no-one overlooking it, is well set back from the road down a long driveway, and is surrounded by lawns and woods. The windows have been left uncovered to maximize natural light, night-time stargazing, and enjoyment of the views. While the host lives in an apartment above her teaching studio in an extension on the back of the house, there are no sight lines from it to the farmhouse windows. In spite of the farmhouse's private setting, if you are uncomfortable with windows without coverings, then this may not be the right property for you. You may see the resident cat inside the host's studio and apartment windows, but he does not go outside nor enter the rental home.
    - 25 mins from historic Baddeck (on the Bras d'Or Lake UNESCO Biosphere) - 40 mins from the Atlantic coastal town of Ingonish, the eastern entrance to Cape Breton Highlands National Park - One min from the world famous Cabot Trail, the house is at the end of a private driveway on a secondary road, ensuring peace and quiet - See this listing's map for the many notable things to do in the area.
  • Mel's place is outstanding. The pictures and other reviewers do not lie! We're sad to be leaving and heading back to reality. We particularly liked Mel's central location - it was not too far to get to anywhere on the island. Consequently, we hiked all over! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about our stay at Goose Cove.

    Alix2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect place for our trip to visit Highlands National Park and hike along the Cabot Trail! It was wonderfully remote, private, quiet, clean and beautiful! It was centrally located to everything we did. Mel was very quick to respond to my messages, and she had cookies there when we arrived. Such a nice home with beautiful grounds. My only complaint ... i wish we had had more time to simply enjoy the house!!! Rob, Marianne and Bjorn

    Marianne2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fun stay at Mel's rustic and charming farm house. The views are amazing (including the night sky!) and the house is a convenient launching point to Cape Breton's best beaches and hiking trails.

    Mason C2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Mel’s century farmhouse is a find: tastefully decorated, bright and spacious, perfectly sized for a family of four. It has a well-equipped kitchen for those who wish to cook for themselves; although there’s no air conditioning, it is configured to take advantage of evening breezes so that hot days don’t turn into too-warm nights. The house is set in a serene location without distractions of any kind; anyone looking for a place to rest and recover from the rigours of ordinary life will be delighted. Dragonflies abound in and around the pond 50 meters from the front veranda. Hummingbirds regularly appeared for viewing immediately outside the kitchen window. Two deer arrived one evening to stroll about the grounds. There is an abundance of insect song but virtually no other noise. Staying here is akin to taking part in a nature documentary. Fabulous.

    Doug2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Mel's farmhouse was perfect for our 5 night stay. The place was very clean, quiet and comfortable. I would like to echo past accolades. The house is as advertised, no unpleasant surprises. Hope to see you again next year :)

  • My wife and I loved this place. Right on the Cabot Trail, very cute house with lots to work with in the kitchen. Lots of room and very quiet. Owner was very responsive and ready to offer any suggestions about things to do near by. We were very impressed.

    William2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Really good value! Absolutely loved staying at this little sanctuary tucked away on a hillside in such a beautiful peaceful setting. There are three big windows to look out over the pretty surroundings. Just standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes was enjoyable! The house is comfortably decorated with plenty of windows and natural light so it feels airy and spacious. But on hot days it remains cool because of the gentle breeze always blowing up from the bay. Lots of little extras: well stocked kitchen, enough hangers (!), a radio, and games, puzzles, and books. Mel is super helpful, nice, and thought about our comfort during our trip. Like when it unexpectedly got cold at night she emailed to explain how to turn on the heat. The location on the Cabot Trail can't be beat. My husband and I decided after our week there that we had--by dumb luck--landed in the best spot. It's near Baddeck, a town that has everything a tourist needs, but far enough away that you feel like you're away from it all. Cape Breton National Park is only an hour away. Many of the other towns (really villages) lacked even basic things and several felt a bit cheesy. Lastly, St. Ann's Bay is definitely one of the prettiest areas. Fellow cyclists: this Airbnb, in our opinion, is located on the most desirable biking section on the Cabot Trail. Mel's place is on one of only two sections where we felt safe. Good shoulders on the road and not as many 18-wheelers going by at 60 miles an hour. They're working to create shoulders on the entire 300km road but have not made it very far around. Unlike other parts of the Trail, you can ride north or south for miles and miles of this house and experience an amazing beautiful and safe ride.

    Diane2019-07-27T00:00:00Z

  • Rosalind’s place is the perfect family getaway. Really spacious, everything you need, but off the grid from TV/WIFI, there was even a great selection of kids toys. Perfect for exploring Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. We also received a wonderful welcome.

    Rachel2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hosts. Went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, including bringing us milk at 9pm when my kids decided to drink everything we bought leaving none for breakfast. There were colouring books and games for the kids which kept them entertained with no wifi. This is a spider friendly place though so arachnophobics may want to avoid it. It's just a part of the nature you're surrounded by.

  • Wildlife thrives here. We enjoyed watching the wild foxes in the yard where they live somewhere. The house is in the middle of wilderness so great for wildlife. The yard is big. Didn't spend time in the yard as its a little cold right now. But if we return in the summer, we would and it would be great the house is great, clean, spacious, everything uou need. Lots of privacy. No neighbours. Kim was great at keeping in touch too.

All cabins have water views from your sheltered deck and are footsteps away from a communal cook space. Our central location is a PERFECT start for day tripping around the island and you are just footsteps away from North River Kayak Tours. Come experience why our guests commonly review us saying "we wish we could have stayed longer".
The River Nest team is committed to making your stay unique and unforgettable. We have been a leader in the tourism industry for over 25 years and freely offer our island knowledge to our guests. Our space is specifically designed for relaxation with water views, hammocks blowing in the wind and world class kayaking next door. We have paid fine attention to our bedding and linens allowing you have a sleep experience like you have never had before. Angelo, being a musician, has provided a tuned guitar and tutorial sheet in each cabin as an added touch to your space and in case the sky decides to cry, you have a private covered patio deck. The tranquility of the area is second to none which we hope will allow you to unplug, unwind and relax.
We are located just 3km's off the World Famous Cabot Trail at 645 Murray Rd. The area is called St. Ann's Bay and it the home to many great artisans. You could spend an entire day just visiting them. There are hikes close by and our kayaking company is just across the street. It is a very quiet little oasis but there is lots to do if you choose that route.
