This is a beautifully appointed studio apartment located off the patio level of a water front home. Guests enjoy a large private patio over looking gorgeous sweeping views of Long Island Sound. A private entrance and off street parking. The amazing views and amenities make this space the perfect romantic getaway! Close to I95 and Metro North railroad. Ten minutes to great dining in downtown Milford. A true waterfront oasis! Come and experience this beautiful retreat! You won't be disappointed!
The Studio is spacious, extremely well appointed, beautifully decorated and very high end. The entrance is private, at ground level, and accessed through french doors (see picture) located under the covered terrace. The host does live in the main part of the house on the two floors above the studio. However, as a super host, I'm extremely contentious of my guests privacy and comfort. When paying guests are present, the host does NOT use the patio or covered terrace. Those features are reserved for guests only. Other features include: a 1200 + square foot patio over looking incredible 180 degree views of Long Sound. Cozy bistro table by the sea wall for drinks, dinners, and breakfast by the water. Remote controlled gas fireplace in the studio for romantic evenings. A beautifully appointed bath featuring a marble glass enclosed shower with three body jets and massage shower head. A 50 inch smart TV and a Blu Ray DVD player (bring your own movies). Cable TV with HBO, Starz, Showtime, The Movie Channel, and music channels. High speed Wi-Fi. Five burner gas barbecue grill for the exclusive use of guests. NOTE: the studio is not located on a sandy beach. However, guests do have access to the shore line for beautiful walks by the water. Thanks! Your host: David
Quiet residential neighborhood. Off street parking. Only a 15 minute drive to Silver Sands state park and beach! Many excellent restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner just a 5 to 15 minute drive from studio. Two major casinos just an hours drive away.
  • David's place is awesome. Me and by husband had the best time there. And I am really looking forward to stay at David's place, whenever I visit Connecticut. Sure we will 😊

  • This place is fantastic. Never seen a more equipped AirBnb. High quality linens and kitchen utensils. Champagne glasses and candles. Super cute and feels like home. Private and romantic. And SUPER CLEAN. Amazing sunrises. Make sure to not miss it. David is an amazing host. Didn’t even see him :) Everything was perfect. Thank you David.

  • Dave’s place was absolutely beautiful. He was courteous and respectful. We had a peaceful and enjoyable time. Definitely would like to go back.

  • David’s place was amazing. It looks just like the pictures. The outdoor patio was our favorite. It has an elegant European feel and of course staring at the ocean is just amazing. The inside decor is nicely styled. The fireplace is romantic and cozy. We would definitely stay again! Also David himself is a very laid back, chill person which also added to the great experience.

    Robin2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • It's a beautiful, clean apartment. David was easy to work with and very respectful of guest privacy.

  • This home has a spectacular view - we drank wine outside in JANUARY! The studio space has all you need for a cozy weekend for 2: wine glasses, a fire place, and a view! The home was very clean. New fixtures within the space, especially the bathroom. (The shower is exquisite!) David is a great host, gave recommendations, and was responsive with communications. We'd love to visit again!

    Gabriella2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place was a cozy comfortable getaway for my wife and I. Close to Milford center and near lots of great places to eat. Apartment opens unto an ocean view. Would visit again.

  • Great weekend getaway. Will be coming back for sure. Views were amazing. Fireplace adds to the romantic ambiance.

The picturesque Cornwall Bridge community was incorporated in 1780 and lies alongside the Housatonic River in North-west Connecticut. The neighbouring communities house quaint covered bridges and beautiful state parks.
  • We rented Thomas’s cabin for ski weekends with our kids and LOVED it. The cabin is modern simplicity at its best, and Thomas is a great, responsive host. The house is well appointed and lovely. Waking each morning to the sound of the creek and the quiet views out to the tree covered slopes is really special. We hope to be back!!

  • This place is awesome!!! Thomas made our stay perfect. Easy check in and check out. The cabin was cozy, warm and clean. There is a beautiful wild nature around the cabin and a small river and rocks. I went with my wife and kids (9 and 13) and they just loved it. Very close to Mohawk ski area (about 8 min driving). Small market about 5min away. Thanks again Thomas

  • Loved this cabin! So cozy and such a great getaway. We booked it for our Ski Trip minutes away and loved every minute, the sound water in the morning was everything and so many thoughtful touches throughout the house.

  • This is a stylish and clean cabin in a beautiful setting. It was very private with only the sound of the stream and the occasional passing car. Thomas was very responsive. We recommend this cabin for anyone dreaming of a wilderness escape.

A great daylight space nested on the edge of the woods. Be close to nature but also close to our house for modern convinces in our house. Please note this space is unplugged, it has no electricity, heat or air conditioning. There are full bathrooms for your use in our house, 125 feet away.
Our 165 sq ft Geodesic Dome - Day light with beautiful pine floor. Built from wood growing on our property. 100 feet away is the main house where there is a great country Kitchen and bathroom for your use. The Dome has no power or heat - so it is like camping. We have a great LED light for it.Very peaceful space where you can get in touch with nature and yourself. You are also welcome to tour our Organic Farm and during season, even help out and enjoy some fresh organic produce.
So there's lots of history and in the fall the tress turning color are breath taking. We are located between Litchfield, CT and Woodbury, CT. Woodbury is the antiques capitol of New England, with awesome restaurants and Litchfield has several historic sites and the White Memorial foundation - a 4,000 acres land preserve open for hiking.
  • Great place to get away from the world.

    Kofi2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The dome is absolutely wonderful. The area and property is calming and perfect for people who love the outdoors. Plenty of blankets provided as well as portable lighting since there is no electricity. Clean bathroom and friendly hosts.

  • Robert's place was a cozy, relaxing getaway for the weekend. We loved the glamping-style of the dome, and being surrounded by nature. We also spend an afternoon at Bantam lake, a beautiful spot that's only about 15 mins away from the place. Would definitely recommend the dome to anyone looking to get away for a weekend to relax!

"Vinola" is charming cabin built in the early 1930's. It underwent a total interior renovation in 2016 and is now the "Cabin in the Woods" you've been looking for! Enjoy an idyllic escape from the city year round. Activities include swimming, fishing, hiking, kayaking or just a cozy snooze with a book on the couch. Top off your stay by trying our traditional wood-fired Finnish sauna. Relax tired muscles and rejuvenate the soul. Check our photos and reviews!
The Top 5 questions we get: 1. Do we need to bring firewood? You are welcome to collect deadwood from the forest surrounding the cabin for free. We also provide firewood bundles for $3/bundle. 2. Does the cabin have pots and pans and linens? Yes, the cabin is equipped with everything you need for basic cooking and has linens and towels. 3. Does the sauna work? Yes! The sauna is available year round. 4. Is the cabin heated? Yes! The cabin has both propane and electric heat sources to keep you toasty even on the coldest of New England winter days. 5. Is there a grill? Yes! The cabin has a propane and a charcoal grill. We do not provide charcoal, so bring your own please. Vinola has one bedroom with a queen bed. The main room has one single bed, a single cot and a queen pull out sofa. The loft has 2 single cots. (The loft is not to be used by small children for safety.) Full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator, and microwave. The bathroom has a toilet and shower. There is no TV. (you won't miss it, we promise!) Vinola has a lovely porch on the front and a fire pit and gas and charcoal grills in the back. There are trails in Pachaug and Arcadia management areas that start at the end of the driveway. The cabin is a not secluded space. From the cabin, you can see our other cabin, a cottage and a few RV's (depends on season and number of guests). Please view ALL the listing photos to get a feel for the layout of the cabin in relation to other buildings.
This is a small, rural, lakeside community. There is far more activity on the lake in the summer months and it is very quiet in the winter. We have one neighbor on either side of our 7 acre property and both are rarely occupied summer homes.
  • This place was very well kept, the host was great with communication. This is our second time returning and are yet to be disappointed.

    Angel2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Everything as expected, wonderful experience. The cabin and lake were peaceful.

    Tika Ram2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place was fantastic! It was one of those areas where pictures can't describe how magical this Airbnb was. The cabin itself was beautiful and much bigger in person, there was plenty of room for all of us there. The Kayaks were super fun and it was so generous that we were able to use them with no extra fee. Just remember to grab a life jacket on in the shed nearby before you go out! The fairy lights surrounding the cabin and the fire-pit area was something we didn't expect to see at our stay, and it defiantly was a nice surprise! This place was truly amazing, and my daughter and her friends are already talking about coming here again in the future!

    William2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved how quiet this cabin in the woods was. As described, this is a great spot to get away and relax in the woods. Angela is a great host, very fast on the responses and the place was great!

Our rustic River Houseboat is on the edge of the Pootatuck River on our lower pond, in close proximity to our beautiful stone barn. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
Our rustic River Houseboat is on the edge of the Pootatuck River on our lower pond. The Houseboat has a comfy queen bed and a screened porch complete with two antique rocking chairs. The River Houseboat is often preferred because it is located close to the main Stone Barn and parking lot. The Stone Barn is open 24 hours and has a hot shower, toilet, and common room with internet and books. Keep in mind that because this cabin is located at the base of the mountain it is not as secluded as the other cabins. The Stone Barn has a grill outside and a full kitchen inside that guests are welcome to use. There is also a fully equipped Rustic Kitchen located at the top of the mountain. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are located a one minute walk away in the Stone Barn -There is a small fire pit located near the cabin. -Candles are not allowed in the cabins Once you book we ask that you keep us updated on your arrival time so that we can be sure to be ready and waiting for you! We ask that all guests arrive before dark. Guests arriving after 10pm will be required to pay an additional $20 late check in fee in cash upon arrival. We apologize but we must enforce this even if you are late due to circumstances out of you control. It’s simple living at its best. We're just over one hour from NYC but local folks love us too. We are an easy, inexpensive "staycation" and many use us frequently as their guest "bedroom" when out of town family or friends come. We offer a unique setting for your summer get-a-way or family reunion. There is a communal Rustic Kitchen on the top of the mountain ideally situated between the Pagoda cabin, Mtn. Laurel cabin and Summit cabin. The kitchen has cookware, plates, french press, utensils, a stove, grill, coolers with ice, olive oil, salt/pepper, drinking water and a sink with running water (not potable)! Lighting is limited and we always encourage people to bring their own additional lighting. There is also a fully equipped communal kitchen located in the Stone Barn at the base of the mountain which guests are welcome to use. We do not provide breakfast at this time. There are three large designated fire pits on the property. Some cabins also have their own fire pits which is noted in their individual descriptions. Fires are not allowed to be made in non-designated places! Please Note per Connecticut state law - firewood cannot be brought in from out of the state.  Upon arrival we will provide you with a map and your own cooler with ice. We allow our guests to drive their belongings up to their cabin at check in and upon check out but cars must be parked below in designated parking areas. Please remember that during your stay you will be traveling on foot! Most of the cabins are a 10-25 minute walk through the woods, depending on your speed. The River Houseboat and Little House are at the base of the mountain next to the stone barn and parking area so very little walking is required. We restock ice and other goods daily and thus try to make ourselves as available and accommodating to changing needs as possible - we have some individuals living on the property who can be available in case of emergency. Important Things to Note: -Verizon wireless is the only network to have service throughout the property. Nearly all other providers have service on the top of the mountain where the majority of our cabins are located.  -Dogs are not allowed to stay in any of our cabins. -Please be advised that we are not solely a Bed and Breakfast; we are a working farm and while we aim to accommodate you as best as possible, there are sometimes other events going on that may affect your stay. We recommend you check our calendar of events prior to booking. Sometimes our guests enjoy participating! -There is a shower inside the stone barn, as well as two outdoor showers located near the Rustic Kitchen area at the top of the mountain. - An outhouse that is cleaned weekly is located near the Rustic kitchen, Mtn. Laurel cabin, Summit cabin and Pagoda cabin and a two room state of the art composting toilet is shared between the Solar cabin and Log cabin - both a one minute walk away - We have a wilderness camp that runs Monday - Friday from 9am - 3pm during the summer. Campers and staff respect the privacy of the cabins but you might see some groups of children building forts or playing games throughout the forest  - Please be aware that depending on rain fall the property is at risk of drought in the late summer. This can sometimes cause the pond levels to drop making it less scenic for some. - None of the cabins except the River House Boat and Little House have electric- fans are provided in these cabins - There is a Stop and Shop grocery store located 2.5 miles from the farm - If you are arriving via metro north you want to get off at Bridgeport and from there you can get a driving service for the 30-minute ride to the farm (i.e. Uber, Lyft etc.). - We do have wi-fi in the main stone barn that reaches the Little House and the River houseboat. - There are two cats that live on the property in our near the stone barn.
Though there is lots to do in the towns of Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm, most guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • The little boat house is lovely! Tiny but very close to the main house and all the things you need. We had a lovely time and already want to come back!

    Juliana2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is such a special location. Very relaxing. The houseboat is a cute little hideaway. Take some time to hike around the area. It’s lovely.

    Deb2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The houseboat was a great stay! It's not actually floating on the water, but sits its pontoons on the edge of the pond. It has a wonderful patio and the inside is cozy and protected from the elements, while you still experience the peaceful nature outside. The houseboat is very close to the stone barn which has easy access to the kitchen, wifi, bathrooms, and showers which was a big plus. There are benches and chairs around are wonderful to relax in (and play with the cats that wander around). The extended property is beautiful! We walked along the river and hiked up to the summit and fairy gazebo which has excellent views! Definitely recommend. James was an excellent host! He was friendly and helpful, and he definitely made sure our stay was pleasant.

    Alexandra2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had our honeymoon at the farm and had a blast!! We enjoyed conversations with the rotating cast of characters who live and visit the farm, walks along the serene Moss Mountain, and watching wildlife. The houseboat was extremely charming and cozy. The bathroom and kitchen are separate from the houseboat, but less than a minute walk. Bill and James were very friendly, interesting, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We’re already planning our next stay at Sticks and Stones Farm.

    Melissa2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful space to collect your thoughts! Sticks and stones was the perfect relaxation my mother and I needed from our daily lives. Sitting in the screen porch listening to frogs every night with candlelight was so relaxing. It's the perfect spot if you enjoy quiet or need some inspiration for art. The best and most unusual part was waking up with llamas walking past your window hahaha. If able, I do recommend the hike to the top to see moss mountain and the fairy lookout. Very beautiful and quite magical with the unique structures on the hike. The owners respected our private time but were also very accommodating when we had any questions. Lovely staff and lovely place.

    Sarah2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly unique and amazing place, and the staff is so well suited to enhancing the peaceful, fun-loving vibe. I stayed on the houseboat (which is not actually floating, just close enough to marshes to hear the frogs jumping in the water along with the peaceful sound of a small and gentle waterfall), and Ii you're not sure how you feel about the rustic cabins and their location further up the mountain, I highly recommend staying on the boat for a few days to check things out. Boat is located conveniently to parking and the stone barn, which is the hub of the entire place. Convenience (nearby bathroom with shower, large commercial kitchen, wifi) AND amazing solitude (after 3 pm! summer camp takes place on the property til then, but I found the sounds from the campers to be joyful and energizing!) The bed on the houseboat is comfy, and while I was travelling solo, I felt completely safe and secure on this magical property.

    Lisa2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great "camping" for cityfolk/beginners! Since I'm not experienced in the outdoors, I liked having a roof over my head and access to a kitchen/bathroom/etc. Nice to have lots of friendly people nearby too, just in case. The riverboat house is peaceful and rustic - enjoy the relaxing view of the pond and waterfall.

    Melissa2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • You need a break, you need to relax, you need some fresh air, I’ll recommend you this place. This place is just incredible, the cabin is soooo beautiful, those people are so nice, everything was perfect. I want to go back as soon as I can

  • A super great and very clean apartment right on the water. Very lovingly and modernly furnished. Everything you needed was there. The kitchen in particular was very well equipped and you could prepare great food yourself. The bus stop into town is only a 5-minute walk away. Ricardo is a nice and very friendly host. Communication was very easy. Had the apartment not been rented out again after us, we would have stayed longer.

    Martin2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place was ADORABLE! Very clean, the apartment is updated and stylish. It’s right on the water, which made for a nice view. It’s very conveniently located with plenty of things around. Ricardo was very friendly and accommodating, and the entire stay was flawless. I would definitely stay here again if I get back to the area!!

  • Ricardo was an amazing host. His place was clean and spacious, about 10 minutes drive from Yale and Downtown. We stayed at his place about a week. (Currently, no 1-day bookings due to extensive cleaning required) Hot tub/fire pit/pool! Hike our woods to deer trail along river! Over 80 eateries within 15 mins-many now take-out/delivery! Our guests spend most of their time privately enjoying our property and movies on the giant TV
We are still the ultimate couple's, private getaway, but we're making it easier to bring the little ones for a low-keyed, but fun-filled vacation. When you're not enjoying our outdoor amenities, relax in your very own home theater with 66" HD Smart TV. Full kitchen has an electric range, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, assorted small appliances. It is fully supplied for preparing full-course meals. The bedroom features a very comfy queen bed and two twin air mattresses for the kids as well as a portable crib. Please note that dining table only seats two, but there are two TV tables. The front yard has a playset, tree swing and junior bocce and horseshoes, charcoal grill, dining set, and hammock. Backyard has three-level deck, swimming pool with deck lounge chairs and umbrella table, screen porch with hot tub, gas grill, smoker, picnic table, outdoor living room, fire pit with seating, and a hammock in the woods. We have a private, hidden deck and a top-floor deck so you may never see us!
This is a prime piece of real estate the developer originally reserved for himself and a total surprise at the end of a very normal-looking suburban double cul de sac. And yet we consider a drive of over 10 minutes to get anything - groceries, auto service, medical treatment, pet care, pizza, etc. a totally unacceptable inconvenience! We have a herd of deer, a rafter of turkeys including three huge toms in the spring, an abnormally large red fox, a pack of coyotes, a rarely-seen bobcat, and birds of every feather, including woodpeckers, owls, and vultures.

  • What a great spot for a nice weekend getaway ! The house was fully stocked with kitchen wear as I cook that was a huge plus! The hot tub was amazing too just make sure you bring some robes to stay warm as the entrance is outside the unit! Overall very happy with our stay !

  • Excellent stay at beautiful property. Host was superb! Highly recommend.

    Derek2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • As a young couple looking for a cozy weekend getaway, this ended up being the perfect choice. Between the decor, the sparkling cleanliness, and extra little touches here and there, this Airbnb is well worth a booking. The hosts are easily contacted for info and assistance and do everything they can to ensure guests feel welcome and attended to, while at the same time ensuring complete and absolute privacy. The home is secluded and the surrounding wooded area is beautiful. The town of Shelton and neighboring areas are easily reached and we were provided tons of information on local places to eat, relax, and hike. Highlight of the stay was relaxing in the hot tub at night, overlooking the woods and surrounding town below. When we got out to the porch containing the hot tub the lights were on and low, the hot tub was running, and every curtain in the entire home was drawn to respect our privacy. Some airbnbs are an extra space people rent out for some extra cash, but that’s not the case here. These are people that take pride in providing a comfortable stay for their guests and we will certainly be back.

  • Stayed here for two days and nights and let me tell you- it was delightful! The hot tub was wonderful and the space is gorgeous. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

  • Pat and Gabe's place was a peaceful spot for a getaway weekend. We were greeted at the door and given a tour when we arrived, and Pat and Gabe were quick to respond whenever we reached out. If you're looking for a relaxing place to stay in, this spot is homey and comfortable, with lots of books, games, a trail, hot tub, and a s'mores kit. If you're planning to explore the area, there's a ton to do within a few miles of the Airbnb, and the hosts provide several recommendations on their website, including restaurants, hiking trails, museums, and more. We hope to come back again!

A true 5-Star experience! Enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and loved the space! I look forward to returning in the summer to take advantage of the pool and hot tub!! Thank you Pat and Gabe for a great experience!

  • This is the perfect getaway for anyone thinking of escaping day to day life. Sometimes you can be going through the motions and not even realize it. Every detail was well thought out by the extremely kind hosts, Christine and Greg. The place was super clean, very unique, and had it's own personality. Tons of places to go visit, and the town itself is awesome! Looking for food? Visit Marketplace, very good food and drinks. We'll be back for sure.

  • One of the best stays in CT!!!! The airbnb is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city, isolated from the noise and busyness. The place is a quaint guest house that is full of nice aesthetic details and touches. The place was fairly easy to find and Christine (our host) met us in person. The airbnb was extremely modern with a lot of windows to allow light in. This place is a perfect retreat for couples, friends, and even family!! There were two heaters (one in the living room and one in the bedroom), and the bathroom floor was also heated. Christine (our host) was extremely kind and made us feel at home. The place was stocked with pillows, coffee, towels, and everything that you would need for your stay. I would highly highly recommend this place to anyone trying to stay at a cozy location. Communication was extremely easy as Christine responded immediately. This place has definitely set the bar high for us for future airbnbs!!

Three decades of tasteful renovations — using almost 100% re-purposed material — have rendered this converted barn magazine-worthy. Set-back from the road on 1-acre of wooded land with a babbling brook, 353Brookside is a modern home that maintains its rustic allure. With 30-foot ceilings, exposed wooden beams, dozens of windows, an array of eclectic furniture and a grand piano, the charm of the barn is immediately obvious. Perfect for romantic get-aways, retreats, family gatherings and more.
Access to the entire home and 1-acre of land! The barn was built in the early 1900s to house the Oxen that built the dam down the road, hence the thick, original oak floors. The second and third floors were constructed by re-arranging the barm's giant beams horizontally instead of vertically. Almost all of the many abstract art pieces on the walls were painted by my mom and grandma. Everything has been modernized and we keep it sparkling clean! To make your stay easy, I have posted informational signs throughout the house that address FAQs, operating instructions and much more.
Quiet, quaint, peaceful neighborhood with very friendly neighbors. Many guests remark on how at ease they feel upon arrival. Convenient but private setting. Walkable to quick eats, ice cream and convenience stores. Less than 5 mininutes to grocery stores, resteraunts, and nature reserves. Less than 10-minutes to the beach, downtown, the train station, shopping areas, fitness studios, and golf courses. Just 45 miles from New York City.
  • The Barn is truly idyllic - even more gorgeous than the pictures show, beautifully cared for, cozy and stylish all at once. The location is lovely and restful - this is a perfect weekend/weekday getaway! It truly will exceed your expectations, and Davis is the greatest host anybody could wish for.

  • The place was great and exactly as advertised!

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome house with a lot of space. We didn't need to utilize it but it's nice having rooms on separate floors with its own living room space. The house is beautiful as well as the neighborhood. There is a river that runs behind the house to the lake down the road, it was a nice walk. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the fire pit out there! And then relax in the bathtub. The shower is amazing also! We had an issue with a window and Davis was very prompt in responding to me and getting it fixed. Definitely will be the Airbnb I book if we come back to this area.

    Kelly2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Davis's house is really wonderful. We are frequent travelers and we love NYC and we usually make getaways to some nearby state to know and experience other ways of living. I write in Spanish to be more precise in what I want to tell ... I hope Davis can translate it as well as possible. We were 4 nights with my family. Every place in the house is charming, the rooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms, desk ... every space with unique details and everything you need is there, available. The living and kitchen are dreamed, the photos do not reflect the perfect style. One of our children is a musician and the piano sounds perfect. Each room has its TV with entertainment system which allows the translation of languages. The exterior is beautiful with a stream that crosses the back of the house. We made a fire on a cold afternoon and used his grill. It is a house to stay, walk for a while on the beaches and forest park and cook some specialties of Trader Joe. I recommend to travelers that in addition to enjoying NYC, relax a few days in Davis's barn. Greetings from Argentina.

  • This barn is so incredibly charming! We loved everything about the place. Our favorite was the basement, where we could fit 7 of us comfortably on the couch/chairs at night & just relax. Everything was wonderful and Davis was very responsive and welcoming.

  • This place is amazing. Definitely recommend ! The house is gorgeous and clean. Area is beautiful. The host was very helpful and nice. We didn’t have any complaints. Would love to come back.

Water Forest retreat is a very private 144 ft.² electrified and heated cedar octagon next to a brook on 100 acres of forest with a pond, waterfall, marsh and hiking trails. Cozy up in this quiet comfortable space while listening to Goldmine brook while you sleep. Fire pit, heated outhouse with composting toilet, outdoor dining area, brook and trail head are just steps away. We now have a TREE HOUSE. Please click on our profile picture to read more. Hiker's Haven tiny house coming soon!
Regarding the coronavirus, We are very diligent about cleaning all surfaces including light switches and door handles with Lysol. We also supply sanitizer wipes and hand sanitizer. Welcome to Water Forest Retreat, a tiny home on 100 acres of forest. It is a great place to relax, hike, mushroom hunt, write, read, fish, bird watch, meditate, create art or music, photography, snow shoe, cross country ski, but most of all to enjoy nature. This 144 ft.² (13.37 sq. meters) cedar octagon has electricity but not running water/plumbing. The space has windows with screens and shades on all eight sides for marvelous views of the forest and Goldmine brook. It also has a locking door. A key will be provided when you arrive. The space includes a full sized bed with a comfortable hybrid coil/memory foam mattress. The sheets are a soft 400 thread count and there are plenty of pillows, quilts and a faux fur throw. There is also a table with two chairs for dining, writing or computer work and a cabinet which stores some camping essentials. The lamps by the bed have usb ports for charging your phone. Above it all hangs a driftwood chandelier decorated with seashells, crystals and fairy lights. A book binder is provided with extra information, trail maps and directions on how to use the propane heater and coffee machine. There are 2 1/2 miles of well-maintained hiking trails with some that follow the brook to a waterfall which once hosted a gristmill back in the 1700s. You can still see the large stone foundations. Along the trails you will see many of the iconic stone walls that are unique to New England. Maps are provided in the book binder and trail markers are posted along the way. There are many benches and chairs along the trail for you to sit, relax and enjoy your surroundings. While hiking the trails walking poles or sticks are suggested. (You can use the handmade walking sticks in the octagon) The terrain is hilly and has occasional stone steps and steep areas. Proper hiking shoes are strongly recommended. Due to the nature of the trails no ATV, dirt or mountain biking is allowed. These are hiking trails only. While hiking please stay on our side of the brook as the opposite side is owed by our neighbor. Also, please respect the private sign as this trail leads to the tree house where guests may be staying. There is a good distance between the two buildings so you will not be able to see each other even in winter. We wanted to make each site secluded and private. It is a 5 minute walk to a springfed pond which is part of Goldmine brook. The brook is rated class A and supports a myriad of wildlife including river otters, mink, muskrats and great blue herons. If you like to fish bring your gear to try for pickerel, shiners, yellow perch, white perch, big mouth bass, smallmouth bass, and native trout. Previous guests have had great luck flyfishing here. Since the pond is small we ask that you please practice catch and release. If you are looking for a place to swim, canoe or kayak visit Gardner lake state park which is only 15 minutes away in Salem. (You will need to supply your own canoe and kayaks) Depending on water flow, you can take a dip in the small pool just below the Goldmine brook waterfall which is a 20 to 25 minute hike away. Please wear water shoes as the brook is rocky. Looking for some ocean fun? Bluff point state park in Groton is another good choice. Here they have a beach along with hiking trails and is 24 minutes away. Both places are free of charge. Please check out our guidebook on Airbnb by clicking our profile picture for more things to do in the area. The outhouse, which is close to the octagon, has a composting toilet and is supplied with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Directions on how to use the toilet are posted on the wall. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY so that it will function properly. In winter the outhouse is provisioned with an electric heater for your comfort. The outdoor living area is conveniently layered with crushed stone. Enjoy a fire in the fire pit and meals either outdoors or in. A grill is provided for cooking over the fire pit. There are also tiki torches for extra light and ambiance along with tables and chairs. Seasoned wood is available for five dollars a box. You can also bring your own wood and are welcome to any wood on the forest floor as long as it is not being used to mark the trails. In the cabinet you will find camping essentials such as a propane camp stove, propane canisters, pots, pans, cups, bowls, cutlery, dinnerware, assorted cooking utensils such as spoons, spatula, roasting tongs, cutting board, dish drying cloth, spices, can opener and scissors. Pottery mugs are provided. Nancy makes the mugs and they are for sale upon request. There are also wine glasses and a wine bottle opener for that special occasion. Since there is no refrigerator, you will need to bring your own cooler or borrow ours. There is a Big Y and Walmart 1 mile away. Looking for a liquor store? Bozrah wine and spirits is 1 mile away heading west on route 82. If you do not wish to cook your meals, there are plenty of local restaurants close by. We provide a few menus in the book binder that you can look through. Many restaurants make deliveries or you can use a delivery app.such as DoorDash. Com. We also have a Kuerig machine with coffee, tea, hot cider, chai latte and hot chocolate for your favorite brew. We provide assorted sweeteners and creamer. There are also a few snacks. Bottled water is provided or you can fill up a container at the shower in the warmer months as the well water is very good. A fan and electric fireplace are provided for your comfort. On very cold nights we also supply a propane heater. Flashlights, lantern, insect repellent, lighters, paper towels, Lysol cleaner, first aid kit, a mirror and umbrellas are also provided. An assortment of games are stored under the bed. Because of the distance Wi-Fi is not available in the octagon, but is available near the main house and in the pottery studio which is a walking distance of 288 feet. If your device is supported by any Internet provider you will be able to get online. Enjoy a hot outdoor shower up at the main house. The shower is private while you are using it, but is shared with guests staying at the tree house. There is also a sink here where you can wash your dishes. Plush towels, washcloths and body soap are available in a container under the bed. Shampoo and conditioner are up at the shower. Dish soap and sponges are provided at the sink. There is a black plastic container under the bed to put your used dishes in. Due to freezing temperatures the shower and sink are not available in the winter. A wash basin is provided for sponge bathing and you can use the coffee machine or the propane camp stove to heat water. Guests staying for two nights or more during this season are more than welcome to use the inside shower up at the main house. In winter we will take care of washing the dishes. For the nature enthusiast, take part in a guided nature walk where Nancy will discuss the history, plants, animals, geology and mushrooms found in the area. A guided walk costs $10 per person and lasts about an hour and a half. We usually cover 2 miles during the walk and may go off trail. You might want to bring something to drink, a snack and your camera. BEFORE YOU BOOK, please keep in mind that this is a fancy form of camping that is semi off grid ( no running water in Octagon) with all that camping entails including insects, animals, sudden weather changes, rocky paths and hilly terrain. There is also a short walk to the shower and parking lot (1 minute) In winter during very cold temperatures the octagon will be nice and cozy though the floor may be cool. Being in the forest you may get to hear our resident barred owls, red fox, eastern coyotes or possibly come across a white tailed deer or mink while hiking. The distance from the parking area to the octagon is approximately 288 feet with 156 feet of that being in the forest. ( about a 1 minute walk) Since the octagon is small please pack appropriately. We will be more than happy to help you with your luggage. Smoking is not allowed inside the octagon, but is allowed outside of it. For people staying two nights or more I will leave you a check in text to see how you are doing. Bert and I will do everything we can to make this a memorable and enjoyable visit. Please feel free to contact us at anytime if you need anything during your stay. We look forward to hosting you!
We live at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential community that Nancy's father and grandfather built in the late 1950's. The octagon is nestled on 100 acres of forest with a brook running along one side of the property.
  • Wonderful couple and wonderful location. Even in the winter when it is too cold to spend all days outdoors, the octagon house was amazing. The creek is beautiful & serene. The trail paths are perfectly maintained and marked, with the cutest little signs providing helpful tips along the way, and the hospitality made this place worth remembering.

    Francesca2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Just an absolutely amazing property with incredible natural walking trails along a stream. Some of the best in CT - we did two hikes and enjoyed all them thoroughly. The private Octagon space is cozy, everything is clean and a great recipe for a relaxing getaway. We played games and enjoyed the new experience in the woods. Thank you Nancy and Bert for creating this space and sharing it for to enjoy.

Our guesthouse is on the Connecticut River in the treasured small town of Chester, half-way between New York and Boston – a little over two hours from each city and 45 minutes from New Haven and Hartford. The cottage features a wide porch, private front yard overlooking the river; a living room with a couch that pulls out to sleeps two comfortably, a dining area and kitchen at one end with a dishwasher. There's a bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a good-sized bathroom with tub and shower. The house, on our four-acre property, is private and quiet and about two miles from the center of the village which is well-appointed with wonderful restaurants, a professional theater, galleries and one-of-a-kind shops. There is endless hiking and kayaking possibilities with a boat launch ramp adjacent to the property. Theater, music and a variety of activities and things to do are all close by. The cottage is $130 a night; $700 a week or $2000 a month. During January and February, 20209, the price is $110 a night; $660 a week and $1700 a month. We’d love to have you stay.
We live in a quiet, pretty exclusive neighborhood on a private road on the Connecticut River. The houses are quite far apart. The lively village of Chester is about two miles away where there is a theater, galleries, great restaurants, shops etc. All around is hiking and kayaking and boating as well as picturesque, colonial villages.
  • I almost hesitate in offering this review -- as I would rather Claudia's Unique, Fun Cottage be kept secret! Yet good, transcendent human achievements do not remain secret. Claudia's Cottage is the alchemy of Perfect spatial design, decoration, and fundamental amenities; every little and big thing have been considered, thought through, and tuned for guests' comfort and pleasure. Sunrise over the Connecticut River through the virtually floor-to-celing glass east wall is magnificent. The cottage is equipped with The Best of everything you might need for for any tenable wish or whim. The location is private, yet convenient to the delightful Chester Village a mellow mile or two south. The architecture -- it is not so small a structure as the photos might suggest -- lives up to a genius vision of setting, scale, and proportion. There is motion-sensitive lighting to illuminate your way returning after dark, parking with extravagant turnaround space, and responsive mechanicals (central heating, well-pressured hot and cold running water, inspired lighting, abundant electrical outlets). I (we — Katharine and I) have returned time after time to find subtle improvements to the overall space, yet the essential romantic charm prevails. Stay for the peace and tranquility, and for the diverse recreational and arts opportunities nearby. Leave with a refreshed spirit. Claudia's visionary Unique Fun Guest Cottage is a priceless experience. Bring your best and highest hopes and dreams.

  • Claudia‘s cottage on the river was amazing! The house was well stocked with any basics that you would need. It was a nice surprise to find videos, board games and books, along with lots of pamphlets of places to eat or things to do in the area. This is a place I would definitely return again in the future. I’m already thinking of returning to do a kayaking trip, with so many waterways available in the area. So overall, I would highly recommend staying at Claudia‘s cottage!!!

  • Claudia’s place is right on the water with a great view. We enjoyed the wildlife, nearby Devil’s Hopyard and Gillette Castle, as well as the cozy and stylish space, with Netflix and high speed WiFi access, which we appreciated for evenings in. Was also great to be able to bring our dog, she loved the space. We would recommend.

Spacious and cosy 1 bedroom apartment near bus line, high way and train station. This is a basement apartment, so the ceilings measures from top to floor is 6 ft 7 inches. It carries a large bedroom for 2 persons. There is a full bed, 3 chairs, 1 small table for laptop users, 2 bedside tables and a tv. There is 1 free parking space in the back and free parking on the street. I have a subpump to keep the space dry and cosy especially when the rain falls it flushes more often.
The space is spacious and Cosy. Clean, tidy and dust free. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, etc.... Nice shower, toilet and cleaning supplies. The kitchen space has fridge, microwave, electric pot, electric kettle, coffee pot, snacks, coffee tea hot chocolate salt & pepper etc. I just need to let you know that I have a subpump in the kitchen area that work to keep the water out of the basement. It is contained in a small sound proof room by itself, but you can still hear it when it flushes the water out, especially when the rain falls continuously. I and others sleep like a baby down there but if you have a sleeping problem think twice before booking please thanks.
It's a very quiet neighborhood. I lived here since 2010, I never have any issues with anyone. I go to work very early in the mornings and sometimes late at night, I work on shifts. I never had any problems going out or coming in. I walk out in the neighborhood for exercise purposes. I would never walk on the streets late at nights. I wouldn't do that in any area not just mine.
  • For just a night or two this place is an amazing value, with an even better location! Stephanie was very helpful and prompt with responses and I would definitely recommend this place!

  • To everyone ever looking for a peaceful bungalow in town this it it! It is beautiful yet eclectic and also antique at the same time. Every time we stay it is amazing! Thank you Tracy and James for the flameless candles. It is such a romantic touch!

  • This Airbnb is the antithesis to standard vernaculars and sets itself apart as a quintessential accommodation. Various textures and materials are elegantly and thoughtfully joined together in an atmosphere of conviviality. Depth of details throughout are provocatively distinct, nuanced, and charmingly shaped offering an exceptional user experience. A home in total harmony.

    Sydney2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tasteful, clean, welcoming place to stay with appreciated touches like tea and cocoa. Tracy was helpful bringing my “gear” in at checkin and was so thoughtful to get up early (6 AM!) the day I left to offer to help me bring it all back out to my car.

  • JoJo and Phil gave excellent hospitality in a space highly designed for creative work.

    Mike2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • JoJo and Phil's place is amazing. I went there and really allowed myself to absorb the idyllic serene and interesting space. The art supplies, yoga studio with mats and drums and bells... lovely. I love to be ensconced in a bed with a heavy cotton comforter and was not disappointed here. The soap stone sink was rustic and clear and clean. Working at the art drafting table, felt really grounding. I loved it all! JoJo showed me around with no fuss, and then left me to my own retreat. So lovely!! I look forward to my next visit to Newtown.

An adorable cabin for one person in close proximity to our main barn with all of the amenities you might need. Please note that Sticks and Stones Farm is a drug and alcohol free property and we request that all of our guests respect and adhere to our policy. Thank you!
You will love this one room miniature cabin nestled next to our front pond and the Pootatuck River. It is darling with a 6' long single bed, dresser, lamp, two windows for cross ventilation and a front door that looks out on the pond and waterfall. We provide towels and drinking water in the cabins. PLEASE keep in mind this cabin is very very small and can only accommodate one person whom is LESS than 6 feet tall. The Little House is located between the Stone Barn and River House Boat so while it is easily accessible it is not as private as other cabins. We cannot guarantee that there will not be something going on at the stone barn during your stay so we advise you to check with us before booking if that is a concern. PLEASE NOTE -The bathroom is not located in the cabin. Both the bathroom and showers are located next door in the Stone Barn.
Though there is lots to do in the town of Newtown, Monroe, Easton and Fairfield, surrounding Sticks and Stones Farm, most guests prefer to kick back, stay put and enjoy the quiet energy of the farm setting.
  • I stayed near the Stone Barn, which has a wonderful communal feel about it. There are many more areas to explore!

    Michael2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I was on a bike journey from Ottawa to Florida when I stayed here. It was way more than I expected for sure! I’m so happy I got to stay here while exploring Connecticut! Being here made my bike trip so much more amazing, the nature at sticks and stones farm is exactly what everyone wants to find! And the people working there are amazing! The bed was so comfortable! I’ll definitely be back with my friends and family for a longer stay!

    Forest2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for someone that wants to step away from reality into nature. the waterfall pond outside is very relaxing to fall asleep to. You can hear all the animals, and during the week they have llamas hiking through the woods with a third party company. I was able to bring my ESA dog which was great. Amazing trails on site for families and beginners, with a moss garden and a large organic garden for a local pantry. There are lots of hidden spots to sit and relax throughout the property. I spent 3 days here and did not have to leave, food can be delivered. The kitchen in the beautiful stone barn is fully equipped and very large since it is used to feed camps. The shower is very clean since it is shared with someone that lives on property year-round. Keep in mind, the listing is a shed turned into tiny home, it has a fan and light but the bed can only fit someone 5'5 and under, most likely not two people comfortably.

  • Awesome little cabin in front of a beautiful pond situated near the stone barn. Would definitely recommend and return. Had a great time and the cabin was very clean

  • The little house is so cozy. An amazing experience for a solo traveller. If you're worried about feeling spooked the wi-fi is a great backup help.

    Maya2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing space for a personal or group retreat with various cabins to unplug and recharge. The grounds are beautiful with hiking trails, gardens, a labyrinth, moss walk, and a yoga/ meditation studio available in the main barn area. The community style kitchen was clean and well organized with space in the fridge for guests to store and prep their food. This was a bright and friendly space, and am thankful to have the opportunity to have shared this space.

    Megan2018-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic peace and tranquility. Slept to the sound of the waterfall and crickets, watched over by the Buddha, stretched out in the yoga class.

    Nancy2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The little cabin was just what I needed and sticks and stones farm was the perfect magical place to re-connect with myself. Sam was an amazing host and if you are lucky enough to meet here, you will certainly understand. Everything was just perfect...for me :)

    Leah2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joe's place was fantastic. The place was clean, warm, cheery, and comfortable. I was frankly amazed at the quality of the space especially given the price - spacious, private, and relaxing with a lot of amenities. It is totally self-contained with bathroom, shower, and kitchenette. Though the space has several beds and can accommodate a family, I was extremely comfortable as a single person staying here. Super quiet and peaceful at night. Very likely to stay again if it is available during my next trip.

  • What’s not to love about Blue bird farm. Greeted by so many animals was the best way to arrive. Getting to feed Tom and Gerry was the highlight. The barn was cosy and comfortable and loved sitting round the fire in the evening. I wish I could have stayed longer. It was hard to leave. Such a beautiful farm and stunning location. I will definitely be back to stay.

  • The apartment was neat and had plenty of kitchen supplies. They also had conditioner for the shower, which is great because I don't travel with mine. I was working at Lockwood Farm during my stay, and it was perfectly located for me. The apartment was also close to tons of food options and to Sleeping Giant State Park. I would book again.

"Ellis" is a cute fully heated and winterized camp cottage built in the 1960's by the students of Ellis Tech. It has two bedrooms and sleeps 4. The detached bunkhouse is included and has 3 single beds. Very peaceful lakeside location on Beach Pond. Walking distance to trails. Enjoy the quintessential lakeside vacation!
4. Does the cabin have heat? Yes, the cabin has both propane and electric heat to keep you toasty on even the coldest New England nights. 5. Is there a grill? Yes! The cabin has a propane and a charcoal grill. We do not provide charcoal, so bring your own please. Ellis has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two single beds. Included in the price is a detached bunkhouse that has 3 single beds. The space is newly remodeled and very cozy! Full kitchen with 4 burner gas stove and oven, refrigerator, and microwave. The kitchen has a table with 4 chairs and a small love seat that can fold out into a single bed. The bathroom has a shower, small sink and toilet. There is no TV. (you won't miss it, we promise!) Ellis has a lovely porch on the front with views of Beach Pond. This is not a secluded cabin. There is a house next door, another cabin behind, and a camp trailer that is occasionally occupied across the driveway. See the aerial photos in the listing to get a better feel for the layout.
This is a small, rural, lakeside community. There is far more activity on the lake in the summer months and it is very quiet in the winter. We have one neighbor on either side of our 7 acre property and both are rarely occupied summer homes.
  • Very nice cabin. Beautiful lake. We were left alone and not bothered one bit. This was a great much needed getaway and our first Airbnb stay. We plan on coming back next year for sure!

Everything was very, very clean and so cozy and comfortable. I can’t say enough good things about our stay here. We had a range of ages, including a toddler. There was something to make everyone happy with the weekend. A definite hidden gem!

The apartment is quiet and light with a calming effect. Beds are comfortable. We are a mile from the Connecticut River and near many good hiking areas. Glastonbury is an old New England town with many exceptional restaurants and shops. Space has been used for out of town guests.
We are 5 miles from the center of South Glastonbury, a mile from the Connecticut River with an historic ferry to cross the river. A fruit and vegetable stand open from April to December down the street carries organically grown produce, flowers, and trees.

  • My boyfriend and I had an incredible time! The house was so eclectic and charming, and we really enjoyed using the hot tub and fire pit to roast s’mores. Wendy was gone while we were there, but Chris made sure to take care of us and gave us lots of awesome recommendations for things to do in the area. Altogether, an amazing weekend!

    Julianne2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy and Chris's home was an absolute delight. When we first stumbled upon this space on AirBnB, it seemed almost too good to be true. There must be a catch! But everything was as perfect as it seemed online. Windy is the most thoughtful, gracious host. She provided us with all the information we needed. She had excellent restaurant recommendations and was of great help. The house is incredible and has everything one needs. We had a great stay!

    Emily2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Really cozy home! There are a lot of games available and cool lighting inside and outside on the deck. The outside deck was so inviting but it was too cold for us to go outside and enjoy (stayed in feb). Definitely would stay here again!

    Melissa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • House exactly as described. Very clean. Shampoo and body wash dispensers in the showers were a nice touch. Didn't use the outdoor areas as we were there in Feb, but they looked really inviting.

The bed was very comfy. We had one question very late at night and got an immediate response. What more could you ask for - we had a very fun time.

Downtown loft apartment in the heart of downtown New Haven and blocks from the Omni Hotel. Enjoy a show or have a drink - this beautiful loft is in the heart of it all.
The space seeks to meld technology and comfort. From Alexa-controlled gadgets to over-sized pillows, the environment is perfect for the out of town commuter to a student on an interview.
Downtown New Haven is the neighborhood located in the heart of the city of New Haven, Connecticut. It is made up of the original nine squares laid out in 1638 to form New Haven, including the New Haven Green, and the immediate surrounding central business district, as well as a significant portion of the Yale University campus. The area includes many restaurants, cafes, theaters and stores. The area bounded by Chapel and Crown Streets is a popular stretch of restaurants, boutiques and bars located across from the Old Campus of Yale University. Includes such historic establishments as Union League Cafe and the c. 1934 Owl Shop cigar lounge. The Anchor Bar, notable for its Art Moderne style and popularity with playwright Thornton Wilder, operated on College Street from the 1940s until 2015. The area is largely coterminous with the Chapel Street Historic District. Notable buildings include the Hotel Taft and the Chapel Square Mall. The Yale University Art Gallery and Yale Center for British Art are also located here.

This Historic Riverside house has just been fully renovated, in keeping with a classic, coastal New England feel. It is well equipped with modern amenities (Wi-Fi, Alexa Concierge, etc.) and has a lovely cottage with two loft style beds. Just a quick walk from the Seaport, and our Historic Downtown, this home offers beautiful river views and easy access to all things Mystic. Located within 5 miles of our celebrated Vineyard. Plenty of parking and potential for a fabulous New England getaway.
Sure, we're biased. But this house has the best of both worlds: sunlit indoor room to spread out and breathe; to cook and commingle with family and friends, plus outdoor space for entertaining, reading, or just lying around. There are great views of the Mystic River. Our kitchen is fully stocked with all the equipment you need. In addition, we have items like, coffee, tea, creamer, and sugar. Plenty of condiments and basics. The main house has three bedrooms. The main house second floor has two wonderful bedrooms, each with queen beds. The third floor bedroom has two single beds. Separate from the main house you can enjoy our lovely cottage with two full size loft style beds and a half bathroom. During warmer months, we have a private outside shower as well. The entire home has WI-FI. The family and dining rooms are spacious and cozy, and a great place to enjoy gathering with family and friends. We also have a great front porch with wonderful water views. During Summer, the back yard garden has outside furniture with a grill and a quaint deck.
Our location is incredibly well-suited to the quintessential Mystic experience. The river is a few steps from our house and quite kayak friendly (yes, we have boats). The famed Mystic Seaport area is a 5 minute walk (right next door). They also have boats, as you probably know. Then there's the aquarium, the diner, and a handful of lesser known things to see, do, eat, and drink. We share detailed recommendations and favorite picks with guests upon booking.
  • The house was beautiful and very welcoming. My whole family enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a place to relax in Mystic.

***PLEASE NOTE*** THE POOL AND HOT TUB ARE CLOSED FOR THE WINTER AND WILL REOPEN AT THE END OF MAY Trumford Guest House is a charming and private cottage with a country/mid-century vibe on a half acre lot in the historic and quiet hamlet of Nichols in the town of Trumbull, CT. Every detail has been thought out in this small, but well furnished and surprisingly spacious 350 sq. ft cottage.
The house is just far enough away from the main house and is very private. We designed and architected this house ourselves, and it took over a few years to design and build. The overall concept of the design started with the red metal fireplace that is in the center of the space. The house was basically built around it. We were obsessed with having plenty of natural light and we got it! There is natural light even in the shower and WC! Instead of buying new, we chose to use (and restore) windows and doors that we have collected through the years from demolitions. No need to fill up more landfills! The eyebrow windows are especially unique and are antique. Atop the cupola on the roof is a nod to our dear departed West Highland Terrier: "Jed" who loved this space in the yard. A hand hammered copper weathervane with 24 carat gold collar, engraved "Jed". Even though you can't really see it, It is one of the many design details built into the house. At night, there is every electric light imaginable: overhead, task, mood, etc. The porch is either lighted by carriage lights, or by down lights. The queen size bed is extremely comfortable, with a pillow top mattress and 464 thread count sheets. Both down and poly pillows are provided. A large flatscreen TV with cable lives next to the bed, but swivels for viewing from any part of the studio. Original fine art, vintage art, and vintage objects are used throughout. Adjacent to the living space is a kitchenette with microwave, full size dishwasher, mini fridge and sink (which is part of an antique hotel kitchenette). A large kitchen counter serves as either an eating area, or work space. For coffee or tea, a Keurig machine, and hot pot are available, and we have provided a selection of teas and coffee complimentary. The bathroom is very large, and was designed as an amalgamation of all of the many hotels we have enjoyed through the years. We love honed marble and subway tile and used neutral colors to offset all of the other brighter accent colors of the interior. There is no shower door- which adds to the illusion of more space- and don't worry, the shower is huge, and with a bench, so you won't be splashing water all over the place. Water cascades from the ceiling from a rainfall shower head, or a conventional hand held shower head with massage functions. The toilet is located in a separate room for additional privacy.
The neighborhood of Nichols is on the historic register and located on the land that was once Nichols farms- one of the earliest farms in the United States. Most of the houses on the main street that lead to our house are from the early to mid 1800's. There is also one from the late 1600's, and many in the neighborhood from the 1700's. We fell in love with the neighborhood when our real estate agent took us down this street. There is a community center, library and churches in our little "square" which is actually a triangle. On Thursdays during the summer there is a small Farmer's Market with food trucks and other local goods, and is walking distance from the house. This area has not changed much in the past few hundred years. Wildlife does strolls through and around our neighborhood: Wild turkeys, deer, bunnies, all sorts of beautiful birds, owls...and always squirrels and chipmunks. Very occasionally there is a bear...we get alerts from the town when this happens and will alert you. Our house was built in 1930. So, it's "new". We bought the property for the size of the land as we always wanted a pool and guest house. This area used to be a huge grassy area and is where we got married. If you enjoy early American architecture and the bucolic Connecticut landscape, you will love this neighborhood! If you are lucky, you will even see an antique Good Humor Ice Cream truck and still sells ice cream on the street.
  • The cabin is just as nice & comfortable as it looks in the photos! Lots of nice amenities & care by the hosts. I can see why Robert & Tom are superhosts! The setting is lovely & peaceful, they made check in super easy & you have your own privacy the whole time. But they were also easy to reach & communicate with & made me feel very comfortable. Highly recommend!

  • A most idyllic and comfy accommodation with well appointed amenities will serve you well when staying in the area. The ‘cottage’ is sparkling clean and well decorated with a FABULOUS shower. Although, not in season, the pool looks amazing. Grateful every morning for the Keurig machine with coffee pods and tea bags. Quiet neighborhood and a space with a great vibe coupled with a fantastic host, what more could you want?

  • Olga's place is truly magical. I felt like I was somewhere in a fairy tale while walking the grounds and being surrounded by the stone walls. The Zen House itself was very comfortable and luxurious. Olga was a great host answering any questions within less than an hour. We had complete privacy. I went there for a weekend getaway and I took my mother who was also desperate for some peace, quiet and nature. Both of us really enjoyed staying here, despite the cold weather of February. I wish I could have stayed longer, and I could only imagine how amazing it is during the Spring/ Summer months. I will definitely visit again!

  • Olga was the most amazing host. We filmed a student film there and she made it so easy. She was so great in the days leading up to our stay and made sure we had everything we needed. Her property and home is absolutely spectacular. Anyone that decides to stay here will be at peace their whole weekend. I will definitely be booking again!

  • Olga’s place is great as the pictures show. If you are looking for a nice place to get away from the city, this is the place to go. On top of the beautiful property, Olga was such a great host and made us feel like home.

  • Staying at Herbert’s and Allison’s place was so much fun! We love the fact that it was 110 year old cottage with all the quaint amenities that one would expect in such a place. The bathroom was updated and we never ran out of hot water! Waking up to the sounds of the ocean was a delight and we took full advantage of the beach setting with walks, sunning ourselves and even swimming at this time of year. I highly recommend this cottage as it’s a hoot!

  • Everything was absolutely amazing. Hosts were prompt with communication. Check in was a breeze. Kitchen was amply stocked. Hosts even went above and beyond to stock the cottage with simple breakfast items. We had such a wonderful time staying at the beach cottage this summer. The location was fabulous for what we wanted. We had stayed a few nights on the beach, Atlantic coast, and found the surf to be a little intense for our 3 young children. When we arrived at the beach cottage, which is on the LI Sound, it was heaven. With good weather and almost zero surf, my husband and I could relax and just sit back and watch our kids play in the sand and gentle water. The house had all the basic amenities. Loved the outdoor shower! The house does not have A/C but we didn’t find that to be an issue. My husband and I joked and said it felt like cabin camping on the beach. :) We absolutely loved it all!

  • We had a wonderful time at the cottage for 3 nights at the end of May/beginning of June. The cottage was GREAT for my son, who is 2.5, there are SO many toys there to play in the sand. Trucks, shovels, etc.. he had a blast seeing all the new toys (under the house with the chairs and beach stuff). The ocean is calm and safe for younger kids, tons of shells and rocks to pick and throw. I would bring watershoes for the little ones, and yourself. I was fine walking down the beach in flip flops but my motherinlaw wanted full shoes on. The home is RIGHT on the water - I haven't slept so well in a long time, listening to the sounds of the ocean. The 4 bedrooms are all upstairs, heads up -they are not 100% completely private though, as the walls don't reach all the way to the roof, which was totally fine for us! We had fans running and didn't hear each other at all. the stairs are steep, but we had no issues. Upstairs: The two back bedrooms, one twin and one full, are connected to each other. The Master with a full and twin has the 4th porch room off it, with one full in it. So two of the bedrooms, you'd need to walk through another bedroom to leave/enter. We had tons of room for a pack and play. There were fans provided. We had no issues with the temperature at our time there, we did put fans at the windows upstairs during the day to keep it cooler, but night was wonderful temperature with the ocean breezes. They have TONS of towels, I've never stayed somewhere with so many which was great. Extra blankets and pillows in the bedroom closet. The tv had limited cable, no DVD player, heads up. But there were board games, cards and honestly the beach is RIGHT there, hopefully you won't need any tv time. We had a great time with the record player, it totally enchanted my son. The kitchen was stocked, and the hosts were kind enough to have left supplies for breakfast and coffee, as well as lots of solo cups, disposable plates/silverwear etc, in case you didnt want to do dishes (no dishwasher). Close to downtown Milford to get food! We really hope to be back soon.

  • A charming place—Beautiful Panoramic ocean views. The kitchenette was perfect for preparing simple meals. Great dining space and living room. The bedroom was gorgeous...Just a little tricky for anyone that has mobility issues to get up the spiral staircase to the bedroom. Peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Jill was a wonderful host. She provided coffee, tea and some thoughtful snacks. A beautiful home away from home while exploring Mystic, CT.
