  • Ann is really welcoming. The house is a peaceful haven at the top of a hill and the ensuite room is just lovely. Everything was perfectly clean. We used the kitchen in the evening and Ann provides us a breakfast. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for everything!

  • Ann and Malcom’s Farm is a special place to stay. They provide everything you would possibly want and are delightful people to get to know. Their Farm is situated high in the hills with gorgeous views of the Southern Alps and the grazing sheep and cows. It is wonderfully quiet and a nice escape. Christchurch is about 45 mins away and there are good dining options in Darwin which is 15 mins away.

  • We used this property as an overnight stopover on the way from Nelson to Wanaka - perfectly located close to Christchurch and the Inland Scenic Highway. Beautifully appointed detached cottage in the grounds of the hosts house, quiet and secure off the main road. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom with ample kitchen and lounge space. Really liked the extra touches such as fresh bread and farm eggs as well as milk left ready for us. Really excellent place and would be comfortable as a stay for several days.

Located 45 mins from Beautiful Central Christchurch and 25 mins west of our International Airport. Only 4km off the great Alpine Highway 73 . This peaceful country setting offers stunning panoramic views towards the Southern Alps and is an on route stopover, whether you are heading to the West Coast via Arthurs Pass or the inland Scenic Route South to Tekapo and Central Otago.
The house is light and airy quiet and comfortable you can relax on the couches in the living room and take in the beautiful panoramic views towards the Southern Alps or find a place in the sun or shade of the garden. You might like to visit with the horses and sheep or go for a walk around the block and take in the the very rural scenery of local farms. There is a peaceful quiet here that is interspersed by the bird song, it is a place to kick back and relax or base yourself as you take on the local entertainment and adventures. Gareon also hosts 3 day Equine Assisted Therapy Retreats. These retreats include; mindfulness and relaxation, organic meals, Professional Therapuetic Massage and Equine Assisted Therapy Sessions. EAT is a powerful and very profound way to experience a journey home to self. Horses have so much to teach us about being human and they will respond to the thoughts and feelings of the humans in their presence. By learning the language of horse (a body language) an experienced therapist can facilitate a session that interprets the subtle inner workings of human behaviour, which is being powerfully expressed in the behaviour of the horse. In this way the horse becomes a mirror for the clients internal dialogue. "These deeply profound experiences, are life changing for clients and I am constantly humbled by the transformation that becomes available in the presence of these majestic beings." Gareon K Manler Please express interest in the Equine Retreats via your booking message.
This is a very rural setting and yet we are only 6 minutes by car to Darfield.
  • A very relaxing stopover between Christchurch and Arthur's pass. The room is very clean and cozy, and the farm very nice! Thanks to Gareon for its hospitality

    Charlène2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Gareon is super hospitable and has the heart in the right place! Everything is neatly arranged, a pleasure to stay.

    Jenny2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place! Gareon, a very hospitable hostess, keeps the house clean. We arrived very late and did not have time to meet and talk. But her notes on how and where to go, what to eat and where to get, were very nice. For breakfast, eggs, as we understand, the hostess holds chickens. Muesli milk toasts jam. For such money, this miracle is simple! Warm, comfortable, comfortable if you go to Tekapo. We arrived late at Christchurch and spent the night in this house with delight. Immensely grateful to the hostess.

    Lena2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely two night stay with Gareon at her beautiful farm. The bedroom was spacious with a view out to the garden and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept in. The farm is in a peaceful and quiet location, we really loved it. Gareon is the perfect host and we look forward to staying again when we’re in the area. Highly recommend

If you want a luxury getaway in quiet rural surrounds then River Retreat is for you. A delicious continental breakfast tray is provided and a super comfy bed. You can eat out or make your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. We have 10 acres next to the river and the Hororata golf course is just next door plus lovely views of the Malvern hills. We are next to Inland Scenic route 77 and the Rakaia and Waimak gorges are only a 15 minute drive away. And Ballooning only 5 minutes away.
River Retreat accommodation is a barn that we built in 2013 and converted half into accommodation in which we lived in for a year whilst building our house. When we moved out we fully redecorated, recarpted and put in a log burner. It is completely separate from our house with its own garden and outdoor seating area. It is best suited for a couple but there is a sofa bed in the lounge with bedding provided which can sleep an extra 2. There is great cellphone coverage, free Wifi, Satellite TV including Sky sport, DVD's, board games and a library. You can sit outside on the patio and enjoy the views of the hills or if it is a cold day you can light the fire and enjoy the cosiness inside. We are pet friendly but please let us know beforehand as we have our animals and need to make sure they will all get along first. We have our own pets - 2 dogs, 2 cats and a horse Guests are welcome to walk around the property and there is access down to the Selwyn river. There are walks along the river or on the hill at the rear of our property. Allan and I are earthquake refugees from Christchurch who are happy to have found our haven out in Coalgate. We love it so are sure you will too. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world and sharing our bit of paradise.
Coalgate is a small rural town in Canterbury close to skifields, golf courses and many other outdoor activities. With rambling hillside views and the Sewlyn river on our doorstep it is an ideal place to relax and unwind.
  • Margie and Allan are wonderful hosts. Their guest house is beautiful, cozy and clean. We enjoyed home made bread, museli, jams, butter, fresh milk and eggs from the farm for breakfast. Their property is beautiful, with a small creek running throught it. We enjoyed a nice evening walk there. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • Pamela and her husband are the NICEST people. Honestly one of the best AirBnb’s I have stayed at in terms of hospitality. She has three lovely Pugs who are super friendly, and they even had a few puppies too! The beds are super comfortable, and Pamela truly makes you feel at home.

    Jax2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We booked at the last minute because we were delayed on our journey towards Arthurs Pass, and were lucky to find a host as welcoming as Pamela. We were made to feel at home, were able to cook ourselves a meal, and get a great night’s sleep. Everything was perfect.

We had great conversations with her and she gave us a tour of her beautiful garden full of veg, flowers and fruit trees. You can see other animals like chickens, goat and sheep as well. We also saw a lot of stars at the house. The pugs are very cute and friendly too!

Walnut Tree Cottage is next to the family home. It is a peaceful room with a queen sized bed, quality linen, wifi. The bathroom is located in the main house where you have access to your own toilet facilities, shared shower, laundry & kitchen. The property is located on 1 acre of land with stunning views of the Southern Alps, only 10 minutes drive to Darfield, 45 mins to nearest ski fields, 30 mins to Christchurch Airport. We have cats, dog, chooks, sheep, alpaca, bees and cheeky lorikeet.
Walnut Tree Cottage sits under the old Walnut Tree and looks out onto heritage apple and pear trees. We have over 100 roses for you to enjoy from spring to summer. There are lovely spaces to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, beer or something lighter around the property. The room has tea/coffee facilities, quality linen, electric blankets and unlimited free wifi.
Walnut Tree Cottage is located in the quiet tranquility of one of the first farming settlements of Canterbury, Greendale. While traffic noise is usually limited to harvesting times there are roosters, laying chooks, demanding pet sheep, possums stealing walnuts and the dawn chorus; however on a clear night the view of the milky way is second to none!
  • Karen's place was so clean, tidy and lovely. Her hospitality was great! We really relaxed and enjoyed. We highly recommend Karen's lovely cottage.

  • Walnut Cottage at Karen's was the highlight of our trip to NZ! Located in a peaceful area outside of Christchurch gives a great opportunity to rest after long driving. Karen is a wonderful host, greeted us in the afternoon and introduced to her family members (animals included) which we were really looking forward to! We had a lovely chat about the animals, the farm and all kind of stuff - next day following Karen's and her daughter Ruby-Rose's recommendations we drove to Castle Hill - a rocky hill where LOTR and Chronicles of Narnia were filmed. We had a great time playing with the cats and Benji the lorikeet. Wifi signal is obviously stronger by the main house, but there were no issues with managing to stream in the evening one of the LOTR films ;) Following other airbnb reviews we asked for the cooked breakfast and we loved it! A perfect omelette with roasted kumara and kale with fresh vegetables from the garden was exactly what we needed after 2 weeks of eating toast with PB&J. We will never forget the warmth and kindness that Karen spreads around her and shares with her guests. Would love to come back some day!

    Anna2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This little oasis just out of Christchurch is a perfect spot to unwind! Karen is an amazing and welcoming host and will do everything in her power to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Yummy breakfast is available, too! 😋

    Peter2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is tastefully furnished with a fridge, a big bed and a small table. We enjoyed our stay very much - Karen is a very nice and caring hostess. Highly recommended.

    Kathrin2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karin and Nick are wonderful hosts; kind and generous. Communication prior to arrival was speedy and clear. We thought that this was an excellent Air BnB experience. It was easy to settle in as we were given a smiley warm welcome. The makings of a cereal breakfast was provided in the cottage but we chose to have a cooked breakfast of cheese omelette made with fresh laid eggs, fried potatoes and ratatouille with toast, tea and coffee. It was magnificent! If you like heritage style and friendly ambience, love home made goodies and enjoy the company of animals then you’re in for a treat staying at Walnut Tree Cottage. It’s a comfortable and quirky place. There’s a pleasant little outdoor seating area underneath the Walnut tree where you can while away some time cracking and munching walnuts! It was all just our style. Karin makes beautiful hand made soap and we couldn’t resist buying several bars from an extensive choice to take back for ourselves in the U.K. and as gifts for friends Be aware that, as is made clear in the booking information, there is a short walk from the cottage to the bathroom.

  • Great place to stay. The location is just perfect for heading out west via Arthur’s pass or south via inland scenic route. Or just for winding down and relax. I loved the garden area as well as the small private living room - felt actually like having a whole flat to yourself. Everything was clean and the hosts were very welcoming. Thanks for the little welcome present! Very thoughtful. Would stay anytime again.

Fully self contained private unit. My place is close to Town centre, restaurants and dining, great views, parks, and just across the road from the pub.. You’ll love my place because of the kitchen, the fire place, the cosiness, the private laundry and bathroom and queen size bed and sofa bed.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families up to four.Small dogs are fine.
We offer a continental breakfast, cereal, porridge, muesli, toast and most toppings, tea, green and herbal teas and of course coffee, instant and or plunger, drip filter, you also have a full kitchen to cook your own breakfast if thats what you prefer.
We happen to have a large doughnut in the park near the house ,it was gifted to the township of Springfield, from the kind people of the united states, and is a great place for photos as well as a place for the kids to play.
  • We enjoyed our stay. Comfy bed. Suitable light breakfast. We appreciated being able to do laundry, even without a dryer.

  • I was looking for a place near the Christchurch airport but away from city congestion. Jennys' place was perfect, very close to airport, easy to find but in a quiet country setting. Jenny and Richard are excellent hosts I felt very welcomed from the get go. As Jenny would say "come as a guest leave as a friend" She goes over the top as a host. I would highly recommend staying in their home if you are in the area. Thanks Jenny and Richard! :) John

Terrace Cottage is a beautifully restored cottage in a lovely garden setting in historic Whitecliffs Valley. This 100 year old former potter's cottage has been updated, with modern amenities and beautiful furnishings and linens. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, a log fire heats the cottage and plenty of firewood is provided. The beautiful gardens give plenty of shelter and privacy with facilities for outdoor dining and relaxation. Nearby Selwyn River provides great swimming spots.
  • Beautiful cottage, we loved our holiday there and we definitely will be back :-)

    Klara2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful comfortable cottage, beautifully furnished and in a very quiet location. Ideal for Christchurch, about 40 mins drive away, if you are using the airport or just wanted a place out of the city. Excellent communication with Rosemary the host.

    Bruce2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Tops: + perfect location to Christchurch and Canterbury region. + cottage has everything you will need. + style of cottage is charming + quite area at night + Rosemary is super fast in responding and check in and out is so easy. Very friendly communication. Downs: - water pressure especially under the shower needs a lot of nerves. - cottage gets cold easily - even with almost 20 degrees outside during the day. However firewood is provided as well as two eletric heater. - house lays directly on a street. Not much traffic though if cars or trucks are passing you feel and hear it in the house. - you will get a detailed message from Rosemary how to handle things around the cottage e.g. rubbish to take back with you or arrange something the the neighbor; to clean cottage yourself or the hint to the low water pressure - all not super big things but better to detail all the specs in the overview description of the cottage before booking.

A country stay south of Christchurch just off Route 1. Near Burnham (Military Camp), Rolleston, IZone and the Selwyn Equestrian Centre. Self contained (en suite) accomodation which is part of a professional equestrian facility (sadly there are no horses to ride; but you can bring your own). As this is a working equestrian facility you may hear life starting around 7:30am with the horses as the quad bike is needed for mucking and feeding out.
Self Contained Flat. 2xHeat Pumps/Air Con (Bedroom and Longe). Very well insulated (cool in summer/warm in winter). Bedroom has king bed with Ensuite Showeroom.
    Quiet (Rural).
  • Perfect! Spent a couple of days there and it was just like a home away from home, loved it. Highly recommend

  • Tony was a very welcoming and accommodating host! The flat was absolutely spotless and had all the amenities needed for a very comfortable stay! We would highly recommend this flat to anyone!

    Julia2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tony’s unit was a fantastic base for exploring Canterbury and beyond. The apartment is generously proportioned, with modern amenities and a comfortable bed. The kitchen is perfect, with everything you need to cook meals (with grocery stores about 15 mins down the road). Everything was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and there were thoughtful touches including extra linen and towels if needed during our stay. There was also a front loader washing machine for laundry which was very handy. Tony was a great host and made our stay a breeze. Highly recommend.

Experience the patchwork of history that makes up this authentic Kiwi Bach at the back of our family home. Cosy and comfortable, yet rough and ready, with a countryside feel. Curl up on the sofa and relax, enjoy breakfast in the sunshine or paddle in the stream. You could finish the day making woodfired pizzas or head to the Springfield Pub to enjoy a hearty meal and mingle with the locals. Just next door to native bush and stunning mountains, there is plenty to enjoy during your stay.
THE SPACE This quirky bach is located in the country town of Springfield, at the foot of the Southern Alps. The perfect place to break up a long drive or to linger for a day or two and take in country life. You will enjoy peace and quiet with a mountain glimpse in our authentic Kiwi home. A space built over time, different stories make up the mish-mash of different materials you will find inside and out. We have kept this authentic charm, while making sure you have everything you need to relax. The bunk beds in the main living area have a lower queen sized bed and upper single - perfect for solo travellers, couples or a family with one child. There are additional mattresses available either in the den-like loft space or on the lounge floor, for slightly larger families. We have blankets and an electric heater to keep you warm. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, microwave oven, two-ring electric hob, pans, crockery and cutlery. So you can prepare simple meals and keep your drinks cold! A few steps from the main house, you will find our rustic 'outhouse' style bathroom. Enjoy a hot bath or shower while listening to the birds or even the rain tapping on the tin roof. In the garden, you can sit out and take in some country air next to the stream at the back of the property. A good place to cool off on a hot day with a paddle or even a quick dip! By staying in the Kiwi Bach, you will get a sense of the history of this unique place which has been home to - a dressage arena, Swiss candlestick maker (spot the pieces of colourful wax scattered about the yard like hundreds and thousands!), a cellist and his daughter and most recently a family with three children; who loved tucking themselves into the rafters for a good night's sleep. We invite you to connect with your creativity and leave your mark on this space. Get creative on our hallway walls, plant a flower, write, sing, dance and enjoy your stay.
Springfield is a farming community on the 'Great Alpine Highway'. Located at the base of the Southern Alps in the Selwyn District of Canterbury, the area features 4,000 lakes, rivers and streams. Round the corner in Kowai Bush; you'll find native NZ flora including the striking black beech trees that produce our local beechwood honey and down the road, the beautiful Waimakariri Gorge. A short drive into the mountains and there are various walking tracks, the rugged ski fields of the Craigieburn range, the mesmerising Castle Hill rocks and Cave Stream, 600m of gushing water that you can walk through....just make sure you take some warm clothes! See the main sights or venture slightly off the path well-travelled path and you'll see why we love living here.
  • A great wee spot with everything you need and nothing you dont. The kids enjoyed playing in the creek and parents enjoyed watching them!

    Rosslyn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Funky and cool space. It is accurately described as a bach (cabin) with outside bath (flush toilet, hot shower). Jase is was great, warm and welcoming. Our kids loved the play space he was able to share with us. We stayed 2 nights as a stop over between Queenstown and Picton. On our full day here we easily did a nice hike at Castle Rocks as wel as the very interesting Cave Stream cave-hike/wade. Jase gave us some nice tips for those excursions. Kitchen was small and simple as described, but fine for morning coffee. Though small, Springfield has a couple of good, reasonably priced cafes, and a pub that is open later serving really good meals.

    Pascal2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Jason's place is really basic but that's exactly what we wanted! He was friendly and went above and beyond what we expected, responding really helpfully to our questions about the area and sharing ideas from his deep well of local experience. He even lent us some head torches! The space is really flexible - our two teens slept on the loft platform, but could have been on mattresses on the main floor - and the single-up / double-down bunk provided for us and the little one. The bathroom across the patio just adds to the cool!

If you want to go on an adventure and seek to find a taste of the Shire, rest your hairy feet and hand-feed friendly sheep or alpacas, our little lifestyle farm is the right place for you. Enjoy our unique place, thoughtfully designed, detailed and crafted to recreate our love for fantasy realms, sitting nestled between oaks, native trees and sheltering pines. If you value food and cheer and song, please be our guest.
You will find a tiny but cleverly designed nest, big enough for two halflings, filled with handmade details. We aim to provide a comfortable and eco friendly accommodation. The building's daytime energy comes from the sun, with many materials used being reclaimed and reused in clever ways. The bedroom features an elevated queen bed fitted with fresh cotton sheets, hand sewn pillows and crafted wooden details, perfect for daydreaming and sleeping in. We also supply you with woollen throws so you can feel cozy warm on those clear starry nights while enjoying the spectacular night sky.. The bathroom is fitted with a gas hot water system- we ask you to keep showers short to assist with sustainability and management of our water reclamation system, and a clean compost toilet, using sawdust instead of precious water. As we reuse the greywater we ask you to only use biodegradable soap, which is provided. We added two private outside sitting areas, one sheltered from the wind and sun, and just perfect to rest in a hammock under the trees and fairy lights, the other equipped with a rustic dining table, situated to overlook the mountains, paddocks and neighboring sheep yards, perfect to enjoy breakfast or dinner while the sun sets behind the mountain peaks. We will serve you a beautiful home made breakfast basket, filled with local and seasonal goodies and our own free range eggs (you are welcome to collect them yourself too). You will find a coffee plunger, kettle and tea for your convenience. There are many lunch and dinner options in the local area, please let us know if you need assistance.
There is so much beauty around us, the only thing we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given! Go and seek Narnia at the "spiritual centre of the universe" in Castle Hill, stroll through Kowai Bush or explore further into the Korowai Torlesse Tussocklands Park, go for a horse ride at Rubicon Valley, enjoy climbing, skiing or biking at Porters or one of the other close areas, or just stay and make yourself at home on our property and hand feed the sheep or go for an alpaca walk. There are a choice of restaurants and cafes in close walking distance, and more a short drive away.
  • We had the most wonderful stay at the Ravens Nest - we can’t stop thinking about it! The ‘hobbit house’ is so cozy and comfortable and the views can’t be beat. The hosts are so hospitable and welcoming, we truly loved everything about our stay. Make sure to feed all the sheep and give Elsa a special pat. We hope to visit again one day :)

    Samantha2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wade and Izzy are tall for hobbits and exceptionally kind and hospitable, even for hobbits. Weary adventures would do well to soak in the tranquility and warmth created by the love and care they have poured into this place.

    Bruce2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Raven's Nest was perfect in every way. The thoughtful touches and obvious love that has gone into creating the space made it feel so special. The bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Easy to follow check-in instructions and friendly hosts.

    Tori2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here because it was on my travel route, in the location I needed to be, and it looked very cute. I’m a LOTR fan but not a total die-hard, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Izzy and her family were so great and welcoming. They’ve built an AWESOME hobbit dwelling with hands down the most comfortable bed I experienced in my time in NZ. They also pointed me to the Hotel restaurant/ pub for dinner, and I ended up having a great meal and making friends with the very friendly locals. Last, they provide an amazing breakfast with so many great little treats, more than I could eat! Great experience that I wasn’t totally expecting and I absolutely recommend!

    Nadine2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Raven’s Nest was a wonderful resting spot for us at the end of a busy trip. If you can, stay two nights to really soak up and enjoy the amazing space that has been so lovingly created by Izzy and Wayde. As has been said in other reviews every detail has been taken care of and swinging in the hammock reading my book in that wonderful space, with the backdrop of snow peaked mountains, was bliss! The breakfast was amazing 😉 and second breakfast too - there was no way we could mange it all in one sitting! Fab spot, amazing hosts … don’t miss out!

    Helen2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you ever find yourself traveling through Springfield, especially if you are fans of Lord of the Rings, you MUST stay at The Raven’s Nest. Izzy & Wayde are incredible hosts and have put such care and attention to detail into making the space so special. Wayde greeted us upon arrival with food to feed the animals, including the famously friendly, Elsa, their rescued sheep. We spent the rest of the evening enjoying the peace and quiet and even did some star gazing as the clouds passed. I do want to note - my husband is 6 ft 4 in tall (193cm) and he had no problem fitting inside the home, bathroom or the bed. In the morning, we were treated to an incredible breakfast of fresh pastries, jams, honey, fruit and freshly laid eggs from their chickens. It was the perfect way to start our morning - we didn’t want to leave! Thank you Izzy & Wayde for letting us share your incredible home with us.

    Hilary2020-02-22T00:00:00Z

  • The host was very friendly and if you sent me a message, I would find you immediately. On his way out, he invited Garage to show his facility to unravel the American feel in addition to the 1950s Chevrolet car that he and his husband had overhauled. I'll use the key ring that I gave you last.

My place is close to great views of the Southern Alps and away from the hustle and bustle of city living. It is a peaceful country escape. 10 mins to Darfield & 20 mins to Rolleston, and 30 mind to Christchurch or Christchurch airport. My place is good for couples and families (with kids). We are only a few minutes away from the hot air ballooning and an hour from the ski fields. The nearest golf course is only 5 mins down the road with several others available in the Selwyn distict.

  • The Tiny House was amazing. It was clean and very fun to be in. Janette was very welcoming and her kids are just the most wonderful :) Her beds and bedding are super comfortable. I can sleep in it all day :) Would recommend and would come back 2x, 3x and more!!!

    Cherry2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect stopover this turned out to be!! Janette is a such friendly host who is passionate about her Tiny House. It is a beautifully made space with plenty of room to fit our group of six! The shower was AMAZING and the Queen bed was SO comfy. Janette has three children who ended up playing cricket with our kids all night, which was great! The children have pet chickens which our kids loved because you can pick them up and pet them!! Overall I would totally recommend this place, it’s a top spot!!

    Lesley2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Janette’s place is one of the unique stays we ever had in South Island. We loved every bit of it. She didn’t miss anything in her welcoming story. The place is very clean and tidy. I am sure this would be a great stay specially for a couple. The little kitchen got everything where we can cook a hot meal. Upstairs sleeping place is very thoughtful and we loved it. If we ever come back to Oxford, we would always book their place.

  • The Tiny House is amazing. For anyone who has watched Tiny House Nation, you will thoroughly enjoy the experience of living tiny for a short while. The house is super sturdy, well appointed and suitable for a family of four or even five (the extra room is very handy). We really enjoyed chatting with our hosts and the kids were so happy to have the hosts’ kids to play with around the farm. Plenty of fun things to do around the place, including playing with the pet chickens! This is a real special experience, I highly recommend it.

  • Super cute house, friendly host and chickens! A good nights sleep.

    Beth2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • My family had a wonderful and memorable time at the tiny house. The house is clean and comfy. Our three kids enjoyed the big land where Janette’s family lives and where this tiny house is built. My children were always eager to get out to play in the wood and the field, with cows and chickens, and Janette’s lovely children. We felt so much welcomed and at home. Janette provided detailed information about different activities we could do during the stay. We wish our stay could’ve been longer.

    Kay2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Janette is very friendly and provided us valuable tips around Oxford. Her space is really spacious, which allowed us to run around in the fields and interact with the farm animals. We enjoyed our time very much in the cosy house built from scratch.

    Avery2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This house truck is a truly awesome kiwi experience, especially when you are greeted by the flock of friendly chooks at your the doorstep, the mooing of the cows in the paddock or being invited for a game of cricket with the family's kids. Ideal stop over for a night or more with Oxfords shops only 5 mins away. Would love to stay again, even in winter with ski slopes only 45 mins drive away!

Come and stay on our working water buffalo farm, watch the milking or cheese making, stunning views of Mt Hutt. The room is a well insulated, double glazed sleep-out with a high quality king bed 15 mtrs from house with your own bathroom just inside house entrance. Outdoor spa pool, BBQ areas available and an inside lounge area. Continental breakfast, with buffalo yogurt, fresh barista coffee with buffalo milk from our farm are included each morning and dinner by arrangement at $35 per head.
The farm is a working buffalo farm and we produce buffalo cheese and yogurt including buffalo mozzarella. The farm encompasses a native reserve were you can walk and you can view the operations of milking and cheese making while you are here. Our bedrooms and bathroom are at the other end of the house with the lounge in between and shared kitchen where you may cook
The area is full of walking tracks, rivers to swim in and close to Mt Hutt ski field .
  • I don't think I can emphasize enough how wonderful a stay we had at the Wairiri farm. Lucy was great at communicating prior to our arrival, and check-in was very simple. We got there in time to see their cheese making in operation, and they were even kind enough to share some with us! The whole family was incredibly welcoming and we really enjoyed getting to know them and share some stories of our own. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

    Angela2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is the only water buffalo farm on the South Island. You get a chance to experience the whole farm life. Lucy and Christo are very friendly and take all the time to explain everything - despite a busy schedule. We bought some buffalo cheese and milk for our ongoing journey. So delicious :-)

    Peter2019-12-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lucy is an excellent host and her farm stay is more than just a stay - it is an EXPERIENCE! Her place is easy to find and the description of the room is spot on. I would add that you can hear the horses from the room which reminds you that you are at a farm stay. It is fantastic. But then there are the water buffalo! I took Lucy up on the dinner option and it was most excellent! In addition to an amazing dinner, Lucy provided different types of cheese from the buffalo milk! It was wonderful to learn about the milking operation and to spend time with Lucy and her family. I recommend this stay and highly recommend the dinner option Lucy provides. Great way to learn about a niche farm production in NZ.

  • Rose is a friendly and warm host. The cottage is cozy and comfortable with modern furnishings and a clean and tidy space. Rose was very thoughtful, and it was lovely to come home to a beatutiful warm retreat at the end of the day. Highly recommend a trip to darfield, even if its just so that you can stay with Rose!

The accommodation is very well set up with everything a family could need, and to a very high standard of quality. We are a small family run accommodation business on the edge of the Springfield township with arguably the best views in the area. Along with four young children, we have six alpacas, a small flock of chickens, 2 cats, and neighbouring horses, sheep, and cattle. If you are looking for clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation in Springfield we should be your first stop.
We are tucked away on a back street away from highway 73, and right next to the Midland rail line for all you trainspotters out there. The room is studio style with en-suite and has a TV, toaster, microwave, small fridge, electric jug and complimentary tea & coffee. There is also a BBQ located on the deck if you wish to do any cooking, but there is no hot plate or oven in the room. All rooms are non smoking. A basic breakfast of cereal, milk and peaches is provided.
Springfield is a small historic railway village. There are a couple of cafes on the main street along with the local pub. There are not a lot of options for evening dinning in the village, however the Sheffield hotel in the next village east (about a 7min drive) offers evening meals Thursday to Sunday, and takeaways most other nights.
  • Very large warm room with a very comfortable bed. Perfect place to stay.

  • A very lovely host and a very nice accommodation!

    Michael2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • I liked to stay there. The room is really big if you travel by yourself and everything was really clean. It is a peaceful surrounding and you've got a great view at the mountains. Not to forget the lamas. To quote Louise, the gas station has a limited amount of food. So if you fancy something special, bring it with you just like I did. I used the BBQ on the terrace to make myself some dinner and it works perfectly. The bed is really good and the breakfast is basic (2 sorts of cereal, fruit, milk, coffee and tea) but it's definitely enough to have a good start in the day. I can recommend to stay there. I really liked it.

    Johanna2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Louisa's place! Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • The photos on AirBnB don’t do this room justice. It was far better than I expected and views were awesome! Breakfast cereal and fruit was provided and the room was excellent value for money! Thank you for a lovely stay!!

A lot of the cottage felt authentic paired with modern conveniences as well. Great little place, and you should definitely try to schedule a tour if available.

  • Amazing place to stay. A fire was in the wood stove waiting for us, and the house has everything you need! Our hosts were amazing, and showed us their peonies! We had food we brought with us since it was Christmas Day, and the kitchen was well supplied to cook. Highly recommend! Even had a Christmas tree set up. Such a sweet place.

One of three privately owned chalets on the top terrace of the Mt Hutt Lodge complex with river and mountain views from every room. Our chalet has open plan living with one bedroom plus ensuite at ground level and two bedrooms and separate shower and toilet upstairs. Under-floor heating keeps things nice and snug
Take a bushwalk, pony-trek, heli-ski. Fish the Rakaia, kayak it or take a jet boat, go horse riding or hunting. Make no mistake, when the clouds burn red in a Canterbury Arch sunset and a Nor-Wester is building, you really feel you are on the edge of the wilderness. Yet it is only an hour to Christchurch International, ten minutes to the access road to the ski fields, to great golfing and to the delightful town of Methven where you can get everything you need. Our place is cosy with under-floor heating, and a heat pump and there is a good restaurant and friendly bar where you can meet all sorts of interesting people. In the summer the pool is open, the trampoline is a magnet for visiting youngsters and the Rakaia Walkway is on your doorstep, one of many enchanting local walks where you can enjoy the song of the bellbirds and the dancing fantails. When you choose to stay with us you get the exclusive use of all the living areas and bathrooms, however, if you book for one room, two quests, we lock off the other two bedrooms. So to avoid any confusion, please book for the number of guests coming so we can leave rooms open.
We have lived there for almost twenty years and loved every minute. It is an exciting place to live in. Look in one direction and there are the endless vistas of the Canterbury plains with excellent roads whose main traffic seems to be the odd mob of sheep. Look in the other direction and Mt Hutt with its ever changing moods rises straight out of the plains. It is part of the front range of the Southern Alps of New Zealand where they filmed the Lord of the Rings because nowhere else could they find such spectacular scenery. You need a car. There is so much to do and see

  • This place was perfect for our family trip through the South Island. We stayed for 2 nights in this special place and enjoyed the amazing views and scenery. The nearby Rakaia Gorge trek was incredible and we could access it on foot from the accommodation location. We also enjoyed a fresh trout supper thanks to a catch from the river!

    Leanna2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • The views are incredible, we came to this oasis after an activity overload and it was a vacation within a vacation. Waking up to see the mountain and river right in front of you was amazing. Very cozy home. We used Apple Maps to try to get the property from the Airbnb address and it took us on a 30 minutes detour behind the property, so maybe use Google Maps or just put in the Mount Hutt Lodge as your destination and that will get you very close.

  • The place is beautiful. It is perched on a corner lot with a deck to enjoy beautiful views. The stay comes with all amenities to cook and clean. It was very well done. The laundry option was a huge plus to us. The three dogs are adorable and made our stay more welcoming. 😊

  • Carl is a great host, he met us when we arrived. He introduced to the place as well as his super sweet dogs. The place had everything we needed and was very clean. We loved our stay here and only wish we could have stayed longer. This is one of our favorite places we’ve stayed at in New Zealand and definitely recommend.

    Vincent2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Dawn and Carl were great hosts. Dawn met us on arrival and showed us to the guest wing. It was sparkling clean and had everything we needed/wanted- great cooking facilities, a washing machine, a huge bath (Dawn even dropped by some Epsom Salts for us to use knowing we’d been out hiking for the day), easy wifi access and dogs to pat! We loved it and had a wonderful stay here!

    Annaliese2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Carl and Dawn's place is a refuge and a home away from home. They were great communicators, really flexible, and such fantastic hosts. The space is off the beaten path but so worth it for the quiet and the views. The home was well set up and perfectly clean. While there were already a few items for our young children, they offered more toys and books from their personal stash, which was well received by our kiddos who had been on the road for a long, long time.
