  • Clive is a great host and five springs was a fantastic space!! Thank you

    Adam2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Set in spectacular scenery the cottage is a little piece of heaven in the Welsh countryside. Clive was helpful from the first communication and continued to be as we settled in. We were then left alone in private, safe in the knowledge if we needed him, he was just next door. The cottage itself is stunning, with all the amenities you expect, and then some. I could go on about the jacuzzi and the sauna (which were both very heavily utilised during our stay), but it's the little things, like helpful hints about the area, books and DVDs and fresh free range eggs that mades the stay so special. The sheer tranquility of the place is evident by the wild stag and deer that visit the garden, and are a sight to behold. My wife and I had just got married the day before we arrived at the cottage, and this was the perfect start to our honeymoon, and to our life together. I cannot recommend Clive and his stunning home highly enough.

  • Five Springs is a lovely place to stay while exploring the local woodlands, we'd be happy to return!

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and spotlessly clean with everything you might need. Clive has invested lots of time to provide information about the local area and maps etc which was so valuable and much appreciated. We loved the spa room and after a long walk a sauna and jacuzzi were the perfect way to end the day. There are lots of thoughtful touches throughout the cottage that also enhanced our stay. The local area is beautiful for walking and the Brecons within easy reach. There is so much to do and we would love to visit again and explore more of the area. Clive was a fantastic host and it was a pleasure to visit and we will be hoping to book again very soon.

    Hannah2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage great facilities and a great host. It is wonderful place which would be great at anytime of year but autumn winter Spring with an excuse to get the log burner going makes it all the better. We will be back.

  • My partner and I had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The cabin is beautiful and cozy and has lots of little touches that make it really homely and special. It’s perfect for a little couples getaway. The location is great too, the surroundings are lovely and peaceful but it is also incredibly easy to get to Monmouth town centre where there is lots to do. Louise and Kenton were great hosts, very helpful whenever we had any questions and always quick to reply. Would highly recommend!

It’s a really good idea for people/couple with a busy life and want to take a step back from the world! It’s in a peaceful location, and Monmouth is a lovely town! The cabin in a short drive from the Brecon beacons as well as the Forest of Dean!

A beautifully restored stone cottage with private patio garden overlooking the stunning Wye Valley. This charming two-bedroom self-catering cottage has a master bedroom with kingsize bed, cosy living room with wood-burner, a light and spacious kitchen-dining area and a downstairs double bedroom. The cottage is 35 minutes walk from Tintern abbey and right on the famous Offa's Dyke footpath. It's the perfect place to find sanctuary from the modern world and to explore the surrounding beauty.
A 200 year old cottage which has been lovingly restored and modernised with an ecological approach - using natural, locally sourced and recycled materials. The floors are underfloor heated and made from cob, using traditional and modern earthen flooring techniques to create a hard-wearing and beautiful floor that feels amazing to walk on. The stonework has been lovingly restored with traditional lime pointing and the roof with welsh slate. The kitchen is made from locally sourced ash slabs and recycled pallet wood, and combines rustic charm with all the modern appliances you would expect: fridges, freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer. The heating system runs off renewable sources and is powered by two large solar thermal panels on the roof and a wood-burning stove with back boiler. Please note that in cold weather the wood-burning stove needs lighting everyday and needs frequent feeding with firewood (supplied free of charge) to keep the cottage from getting cold. The cottage is furnished with traditional Balinese fabrics and pieces of furniture from Joe's travels, creating an exotic, soulful and earthy feel to the cottage.
Located in the stunning Wye Valley, just outside the small country village of Brockweir. The local eco village shop is 15 minutes walk away, a traditional countryside pub 15 minutes walk away and Tintern abbey is 35 minutes walk. The Forest of Dean is 20 minutes drive to the North-East, and there are countless places to explore in the Wye valley, forests, rivers, caves, historic buildings and old pubs!
  • Super location, great story, clean and welcoming. Just lovely!

  • Beautiful cottage and perfect rural retreat.

    Arun2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely cottage! Beautifully decorated & has everything you need - I even managed to bake a birthday cake. You can start hiking on Offa’s Dyke trail right from the doorstep and community cafe nearby was great for tea/lunch (& kids playground). Tintern Abbey nice & close too!

  • Clean, comfortable, Romantic for two and perfect for family. Beautiful cottage and location is excellent. We were so impressed with the renovation everything was unique and interesting. We had a short break but it felt like a real hideaway. We will definitely be staying again.

    Danielle2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place to stay, such an idyllic cottage with lovely touches. The location is close by to great countryside walks with great picturesque locations. Joe was a fantastic host with great communication. Thank you so much!

    Ieuan2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful few days in Joe's eco-lodge. It's been done up so thoughtfully and stylishly. I loved all the wood and the wood-burner - but there are also electric heaters if necessary, so no need to worry about getting cold! The kitchen is really well designed, there was enough hot water for baths, showers, etc, really handy slippers for indoors. We're already planning a trip back in the summer, when the neighbourhood isn't suffering from the effects of Storms Ciara, Dennis and Ellen, one after another!

    Richard2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was lovely - the place was really clean and the thoughtful touches of fresh bread, milk and eggs were really appreciated. Despite the weather, we managed to enjoy the hot tub a lot, a really good addition to be property. As mentioned in a previous review, remember to bring warm socks or slippers as it can be a little chilly on your feet!

    Kirsty2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay with some really great added touches that aren’t stated! A lot more facilities than advertised, making it super comfortable. You could very easily spend a few days here with just the facilities provided by the hosts!

  • The location is incredible. Perfect for walks straight from the door, we did the circular route through the woods which the dog loved! The ostrich inn is also a must for food. The accommodation is perfect for your needs and the amenities meant we could easily cook from home for one evening which was lovely. The special touches (especially homemade bread) were really appreciated. Would definitely recommend!

A tranquil haven to escape to and lose yourself in the beauty of nature waiting on your doorstep. Your 1 acre garden has places to relax, free range chickens (eggs for breakfast!) roaming, a bee hive and is full of interesting trees and wildlife. The picturesque Whitebrook stream runs the length of the garden and you can clamber down and explore. Our 18th century stone-built cosy cottage is ideal for 2 with open plan kitchen/dining/living & double bedroom/ensuite shower. 15 minutes to Monmouth.
Our newly renovated cosy getaway is perfect for 2 people looking for a short or long break, fab for exploring the Wye Valley and convenient if attending local functions or visiting friends/family. Singles, couples, friends and families all welcome and we do have an additional double bed settee in the lounge/diner/kitchen and 2 chair beds in the bedroom. A simple breakfast is provided in the annexe and includes milk, cereal, bread & jams/marmalades. Tea and coffee supplies also provided. Mobile reception is patchy, there is a landline in the house should you need it. Wi-fi isn't available yet!
A fab and picturesque village with real character set in a valley with a pretty stream running down to the river Wye. "The Whitebrook" the village's very own fab Michelin starred restaurant is 300m down the road from us - great for special occasions. "The Boat" at Redbrook is a great bike ride away (bit tough riding back up the hill!) but well worth the cycle (or you can drive) - an old traditional Inn with log burners nestling on the banks of the Wye - local ales/ciders and simple pub food. Walking, mountain biking (great off-road tracks), road cycling, kayaking, canoeing are all either on our own doorstep or on the doorstep of the village. The old castle towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow are short drives away with an abundance of beautiful villages, walks and country eateries scattered throughout.
  • Tina and Liv's place is wonderful, can't recommend it highly enough. In reality it looks even nicer than in the photos. It is a cosy cottage, very clean and warm, and with lots of lovely touches. It has a very nice garden one can use, with a stream running by, surrounded by beautiful pine trees. The location is ideal for various walks and sightseeing in local villages. Check in and check out were very easy as well. Definitely would love to stay there again :)

    Denitsa2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful country stay! FYI no cell service 10 minutes before you get close and no wifi/cell signal. I had a great walk and morning cold water stream plunge which made it all worth it! As described, but host needs to refresh the space - a few things didn't work (the light above the hob and the cable and dvd player (no wifi so this was a big deal!). All in all, a gorgeous place. Recommend and would stay again.

    Angela2020-03-05T00:00:00Z

Get back in touch with nature at this re-imagined home in the countryside. The lodge features an expansive all-white interior, a beamed cathedral ceiling, repointed original brick structural pillars, and a spiral staircase to an upper level loft.
The fully equipped kitchen/living-room, with its high ceiling and big glass doors, has a great sense of light and space, but is cosy and warm with underfloor heating, and high insulation for the winter. The big glass doors open out onto a patio, allowing a sense of inside-outside living. The main bedroom is downstairs, as is the superb jacuzzi bath with shower and toilet. Upstairs, on the mezzanine, a lovely double bedroom nestles into the eaves.
Troy Lodge Barn is a very convenient 10 minute walk away from the picturesque town of Monmouth, with a number of shops, amenities, pubs, and restaurants. A little further afield, there are many activities to try plus interesting buildings and dramatic views.
  • I recently stayed here with my partner and our toddler. The host was superb and very thoughtful. Sally left me a message asking if a travel cot/ high chair was needed before we got there. Host set us up nicely with a welcome card, cupcake each and a few things in the fridge including a bottle of prosecco! One downside which wasn't a big problem was that the big doors leading out onto the patio had no curtains/ blinds so not a lot of privacy in the living area. Overall a good stay, would definitely recommend to anyone!

    Adam2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Visited with partner & friends for wkend to celebrate 50th Bday & wasn't disappointed. Sally is a lovely host, left cakes & a few welcome things for us, plus Bday card & flowers. Everything about the barn is amazing. Super modern from the lights to the huge Jacuzzi. It has everything you need with little extras from the White Company so smells gorgeous. Would highly recommend to visit. The location is great, very quiet but only a 10min walk to the lovely town of Monmouth. Hope to visit again

  • We had an amazing weekend at Sally’s place. It was super clean and comfy. It is beautifully designed and has everything you could possibly need. Would highly recommend.

  • We arrived on Valentines Day to celebrate our anniversary with some relaxing luxury in the country. The space was perfect and even with storm Dennis threatening to blow us away we had a wonderful time! Sally was a perfect host and we were greeted with a welcome card, flowers, cake and a bottle of bubbly which was a wonderful surprise! The barn is stocked with games and all amenities are provided to make it a home from home! Town was a 3 minute drive and the scenery was beautiful. Would recommend!

    Courtney2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is worth the stay! It’s amazing! Sally went above and beyond to make everything in the place so personal and we could have stayed for a week as it had everything you would need! She has thought of everything! Added bonus having gorgeous white company products and and an amazing hot tub / bath to have a glass of vino and chill or a even let our little one enjoy the bubbles! Can’t wait to stay again in the future! Xx

  • I have been using airbnb for some time, and this has been one of the best I have ever stayed in. The accommodation is very stylish, clean, warm, and modern. It has a well set up smart home system, so you can control the lights and music with amazon alexa. There was a comprehensive book with all the instructions we needed to use all the appliances during our stay. Sally was very warm and welcoming and we felt very well looked after throughout our stay. Would highly recommend!

    Chen2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for two nights recently and the place was amazing. Sally messaged before hand with all the information needed to find the place and for an easy self check in. If there was any problems they left their number to contact. The location is nice and quiet, and just a 10 minute walk into Monmouth town, and within a 10 minute drive to nice walks such as Symonds yat. Sally's place is beautiful inside, and is nice and clean. Also there is a lovely welcome hamper with a homemade cake! I would definitely recommend.

    Caru2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sally's attention to detail is second to none, from her understanding and communications prior to and post our stay, to the lovely touches that made us feel so welcome. The barn itself is delightful, if only we had been able to stay for longer. We cannot recommend Sally's barn highly enough.

A beautiful house that is full of character. In the middle of Monmouth old town. Quiet yet within a stone's throw of some fabulous pubs, cafes and restaurants. Ideally located for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Brecon Beacons and beyond. The town itself is charming, there are many small shops for browsing or indulgence and a town square in which to sit and watch the world go by. 200 yards up the road from the house is Wiggies bakery, enjoy breakfast here with newly baked bread.
  • Stayed at Roy’s place for a weekend. Very atmospheric, when you walk in the front door it’s a bit like walking back in time, but that’s just the front room. All modern amenities are provided for a relaxing stay and the bathrooms a bit special. The location is spot on for wandering around the lovely market town of Monmouth. There’s no on site parking but there’s plenty of public car parks locally. Can thoroughly recommend for creating special memories.

  • Really nice little cottage with lots of ‘oooh I wasn’t expecting that’ moments. What I though was just going to be a standard cottage was much nicer. Really nice decor/ finish and very interesting space. Great VFM and in a good location in the middle of town. Would stay again if in the area.

  • The house was great. Old world charm, nice and warm with good amenities. Be careful of the bathroom entry/exit, if you’re tall 😂. To be expected for a house that’s ‘000’s years old

  • We stayed at the Old Butchers Cottage between Christmas and Newyear. What a gem! The 3 storey property is gorgeous and so so clean. Parking really is not an issue we found free parking just a short walk away but you can park overnight outside the house. Monmouth is a lovely town with plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Is you like Wetherspoons the Kings Head is a 2 minute walk. Will definitely return.

  • A beautiful property in a beautiful village. Just next to the church and castle with some great local pubs/restaurants. Not far from local attractions also, a perfect location. The house was immaculately clean and the extra touches were well received especially the children’s toys, games, books, dog treats and cider, to name only a few! Check in and out was easy. We thoroughly enjoyed and our stay and will definitely be back.

  • This property had a fantastic location: 2 min walk from the castle, 5 min walk to the two village pubs. The amenities were great and the house is very very cosy. There is nothing that could be better or improved. I would totally recommend this property and would happily come back. Best Wishes, Mihaela

  • Couldn’t fault a thing, the cottage was fantastic and the log burner was a great touch to making it feel warm and cosy on the evenings! We loved the Christmas tree they had put up and the hamper basket on arrival was lovely putting us in a very Christmassy mood! They had really gone above and beyond our expectations so we will definitely be returning!

  • Our stay at Willow Annexe was delightful. At arrival we were greeted by the two very friendly cats. The studio is very cosy with a wonderful view to the forest. We were impressed by the gifts left for us and the attention to detail that Lesley has put into it. The place is equipped with everything you need (kettle, microwave and a little stove with a pan, if you need to prepare something). Even though we have not met Lesley, she responded quickly to our messages and allowed us a late check-out, which is very good on a lazy Sunday morning. We recommend visiting Wye Valley and all of its surroundings. It is a perfect place for a romantic get-away in the countryside. Highly recommended.

  • The cottage was beautiful, cosy and had possibly one of the best equipped kitchens. Jenny and Jemima had put the heating on so that when we arrived in the late evening, we could cuddle up straight away with a glass of wine. There were some lovely touches with milk, eggs and biscuits there for us to use. There was a folder full of info on the cottage and excellent tips on the local area. On our second day we were able to walk straight from the cottage out towards the Wye Valley, completing a loop along Offa's Dyke to Tintern and then back along the Wye Valley Walk. Well worth it! Lovely place to stay - you'd be daft not to book!

  • An absolutely brilliant time at Puzzle Tree. The welcome was immediate and appreciated. The cottage was spotless, beautiful and with all the amenities you would expect plus more. Jenny and Jemima have created a warm and comfortable space to escape from it all and the added touches like milk, welcoming chocolates and the easy to use information book were greatly appreciated. This cottage is also located close to beautiful walks and places of historical importance like Tintern Abbey, definitely worth a look if not yet seen. We can highly recommend a break at Puzzle Tree Cottage. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

  • We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay at puzzle tree cottage. It was a warm and cosy place, well stocked with lots of thoughtful touches. Lovely views and wildlife around. The hosts J and J were incredibly friendly and easy to reach if needed. We would love to visit again!

    Marie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny and Jemimas place is a beautifully appointed. It has everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay. It was spotlessly clean and had obviously been well thought through. The location is off the beaten track charming. With peace and quiet if you want it, but plenty to do if you want to explore. I would thoroughly recommend

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is spotlessly clean, everything you need in the kitchen, a bed you don't want to get out of, washing machine and easy to work heating to dry your riding clothes. Oh, did I mention I'm a mountain biker? there's Forest of Dean on the door step, Black mountains and Cwmcarn less then an hour away, Afan and BPW a bit further. There's a space to store the bikes and a hose to wash them. Not a place for you if you want to check your FB every 5 mins as there's no phone signal or wifi in the cottage (you can pick up a weak signal just outside or use Jenny's landline in an emergency. We'll be going back there later this year.

  • We had a really relaxing chilled out time at Puzzle Tree cottage. The cottage is warm and cosy, set in extensive grounds, in beautiful countryside yet near to surrounding places of interest. The hosts, Jenny and Jemima were so welcoming and helpful, even giving us a lift to the pub to save us getting a taxi! I would definitely stay here again.

A lovely village, that has a great Church (All Saints, Newland also known as the Cathedral of the Forest). A fab village pub The Ostrich also welcomes dogs. Easy access to the Wye Valley and all it's attractions plus lots of walks on the doorstep.
  • The Rookery Cottage was outstanding. A beautiful place in just at the edge of the village. An excellent place to stay when you're exploring things in and around the Forest of Dean. The local village pub serves amazing food, and is a great atmosphere. We stayed two nights and found the cottage perfect for our needs. Everything was simple, easy to find and the lock box made checking in and out a breeze. Highly recommended!

  • Rookery Cottage is clean, warm, cosy and I can imagine that in the summer using the back garden is delightful But in winter, there was a hose to wash dog down and the cottage was toasty warm. Newland is in a really pretty area, ideal for exploring the Forest of Dean as close to Coleford village and all the lovely Wye Valley walks and pubs but not far from all the cycle and walking routes around Speech House.

Upstairs the open plan kitchen and living area provides all mod-cons to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and there is an upstairs private decking area with a BBQ so you can sit out and enjoy the view across the valley whilst listening to the brook babbling by.

  • My partner and I had the most relaxing weekend at this beautiful cottage in the Wye Valley. Leading up to out stay we were concerned about the flooding in the area, however Rebecca was fantastic at keeping in contact and updating us on the road closures. The cottage was everything we could have wished for and provided us with the perfect retreat in the countryside. It was clean, comfortable and the little touches of eggs from their hens and home made banana bread made us feel very welcome. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anybody, and we will definitely be booking to stay again in the future.

A perfect place to relax and recharge in any season of the year! Our charming cottage has character, peacefulness and a dedicated spa area which includes sauna and hot tub. The whole place and it's lovely garden is just for you during your stay. The cottage is ideal for two but comfortably accommodates four so will suit two couples or one couple with children. When you make your booking request, please say a little about your trip to our area. A profile that has content will make us smile too.
If you're looking for a rustic cottage on the edge of woodland in the countryside rather than a a luxury, apartment-style break, then our place is likely to appeal to you! The whole cottage property is completely set apart from other properties and it has private enclosed garden not overlooked. By the way, the bedrooms are set up as one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. If you're one couple, let us know which bedroom layout you want.
The cottage is just outside village of Sling, near Coleford in the Forest of Dean. The Forest of Dean covers 35 square miles and is a place of few crowds and much peace, with the largest area of old oak trees in Britain. The Forestry Commission have a number of picnic sites, lakes and view points which are perfect places to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. (Text courtesy of active visitforestofdean)
  • Simon and Ruth’s place was an amazing choice for my friend and I for a weekend away to relax and unwind. Set on its own in a beautiful part of the forest, we had superb privacy all weekend, and were able to fully utilise the spa facilities, which are absolutely amazing! We spent our Saturday night sipping tea in the hot tub under the stars, in the forest, and had a quick spell in the sauna... we couldn’t have asked for more! The house is kitted out with everything you may need for either a long or short stay, and as well as the pubs being a stumble away, a large shop is only a few minutes away by car and had nearly anything you would want/need. Simon greeted us on arrival, and gave us a tour of the place and some really useful tips around the house and for the spa. He was great with communication, and is a super host! Thanks again for letting us stay!

  • Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing couple of days! Quaint, quirky, relaxing and a superb little get away! Simon was lovely and even bought milk back for us which we had forgotten! Lovely touches in the cottage.

  • I can't fault the place or the communication with Simon and Ruth, they've clearly been doing this for a while. The hot tub, sauna and cottage log fire were perfect for our weekend getaway. The whole place felt very private and isolated, which helped us relax even more. I recommend experiencing this for yourself!

    Harry2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • We arrived on a dark and wet Friday evening. Simon met us and showed us around and was really nice and friendly. We had a well needed couple of very relaxing days at the place, have two hot tub visits, popped to Monmouth for the afternoon and then to Puzzlewood on Sunday following a slightly later than expected check out. We cooked our breakfast and supper there, and found everything we needed. We found it cozy and comfortable for two people. The path was a bit slippery, flip flops were a good idea. Hot tub was lovely and the brolly was nice touch. We didn't try the sauna so can't comment. We should have taken dressing gowns and slippers. Would thoroughly recommend and stay again.

    Angi2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We have just had a wonderful stay at Simon and Ruth's lovely cottage. The lounge is really cosy with the wood burner. The bedrooms are spacious with good quality bedding and comfortable beds. Other reviews have mentioned the seating in the lounge but we didn't find it too much of a problem. The bathroom is modern and stylish. The kitchen had everything we needed and it was great that the cutlery and crockery are all matching (I'm very odd about things like that). Happy little extras like condiments, tea and coffee and washing-up liquid were especially welcome. The hot tub and sauna were really great, we're hoping to return in the summer so we can make more use of the lovely garden.

    Clare2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • A great little place. It was perfect for our walking holiday.

    James2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Where to start, this place is fantastic, cozy and allow you to enjoy freedom in a very safe place. Simon took a lot of time to explain where everything is and works. The cottage is so cozy and has everything you need, the fire is a nice addition. The outside areas is incredibly well maintained. The Jacuzzi, the sauna, the relaxation room are perfect too. Enjoyed at anytime of the day or night. Simon even put a little touch for us knowing it was our minimoon, such a nice way to start the weekend. We will be back, it would be a shame not to!

This is Bertie! A lovely converted vintage horse box set in 1 1/2 acres. There’s a woodburner and a small electric heater in the van so you’ll be cosy over winter. The main kitchen is outside but there’s a hob in Bertie too. There’s also a fire pit to sit around, a compost loo and electric shower (in wooden structure so potentially a bit chilly in winter!) . Bertie is in St Briavels, between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Price includes wood for fires and use of beautiful grounds.
Bertie is a gorgeous old boy! He's beautiful but he is a bit rustic too so only come and visit him if you enjoy the outdoors. The bed is up a set of steps, see pics, so just to make you aware you'll be climbing up to get into your cosy nook. He lives in an old quarry with beautiful limestone walls and is covered with trees. It's a fab place to just hang out and relax, make fires, cook and generally get away from the hectic pace of every day life. Please note that we have wifi up at the house and you are welcome to walk up and login, but it doesn't extend to Bertie. It's a long way down!
St Briavels is on the edge of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, on the Welsh border. It's a great place to access endless walks in both the valley along the river and the thousands of acres of forest, there's canoeing on the Wye and if you want something a little more urban we're about an hour from Bristol or Cardiff. You can walk to the local pub the George for drinks or a meal and the village has a little deli shop. We're about 15 minutes from both Chepstow and Monmouth for a bit of shopping or lunch out. Or you might just prefer to hang out in the quarry by the fire :)
  • This is a really lovely place to stay. The horsebox is really cosy with plenty of room for a weekend away. The outdoor kitchen is a great addition and a nice space to cook, really close to the firepit area, which has seating all around. The compost toilet and outdoor shower may not be for everyone but both were exceptionally clean. I would thoroughly recommend this place. I stayed with my daughter (8 years old), just the two of us. It was lovely.

  • Extremely cosy little spot. Georgie and Al were both really friendly and flexible when we ended up arriving later than we expected. Loved the electric blankets in the bed, it got chilly!

  • Lovely, quirky horse box which we had a lovely weekend away in! The weather wasnt the best but with a roaring log fire and the electric blankets on the bed turned on we had a very cozy weekend.

  • my partner and I had the most wonderful experience - what a beautiful place set in such breathtaking sorroundings. it was a bit cold during this time of year, but if you are a fire maintenance expert, then bertie is quite cosy. the little town of Coleford was also lovely and the people were just as hospitable as Georgina! Will definitely be back!

  • 'Bertie is a true glamping experience in a converted horsebox that is so cozy and compact. The wood burner is very easy to use and I was provided with enough wood to use for my stay. The outdoor kitchen facilities are excellent, although I didn't cook, everything was provided for anyone wishing to do so. Plenty of plates, mugs, cups pots and pans and utensils plus a full size cooker and fridge. The shower is very clean with hot water and the compost loo was a much more favorable experience than I imagined it would be! Bertie is set in it's own grounds but close enough to the main house should I have needed anything. Georgina is a very friendly host and communicated well, also the little touches by text after my first night just to make sure all was ok; but in saying this, my privacy and need of a retreat were completely respected. I will definitely be back in the spring.

  • We had such a wonderful stay in Bertie. The location is beautiful, secluded and peaceful. Bertie is great, cosy and warm with such a comfortable bed, and the electric blankets were amazing! The kitchen space is great with everything you could need and cooking on the fire was fab! George was lovely and gave us great tips for some lovely places to visit and even brought us ice for gin and tonics. We had such a great holiday here, totally relaxing and we can’t wait to come back again!

Relax and kick back in this beautiful, homely and luxurious cottage in the heart of the stunning Wye Valley. This much-loved holiday home is newly renovated to high standards with high quality rustic touches and feel-good factor in spades. The cottage is in the centre of Redbrook - a thriving village on the River Wye. Outdoor-lovers will be spoilt for choice with first-class walking, canoeing and mountain-biking on your doorstep.
A warm welcome to Wheelwright's Cottage! We pride ourselves on attention to detail and invite you to treat yourself to a real 'home from home'. If you want to switch off and rejuvenate, you're guaranteed an amazing night's sleep in the super comfy king-size bed. The cottage has all the modern home comforts you'd expect, too - including a dishwasher, fast WiFi and good selection of Sky channels. In the mornings, wake up to a powerful shower and a coffee on the patio surrounded by nature and the sound of the stream. On autumn evenings, get toasty in front of a roaring woodburner or dig out a selection of board games.
If you make it out of the cottage, you'll find Redbrook to be a welcoming village with great amenities. Pop into the shop / Post Office for local tips and delicious home-made cherry pie! We swear it's the best we've tasted. There are two good pubs; The Bell is known for its live music night on Fridays and meandering conversations with the locals! The Boat is on the other side of the footbridge and offers an 'oldie worldie' setting with roaring fires and a stunning terraced beer garden overlooking the river. There is a village green on the banks of the river with access for canoes, and a well maintained playground.
  • Came for a birthday weekend in the Wye valley. Lovely space to spend it in! Lots to do near by and some good places to eat but also had a lovely eve cooking for ourselves and getting cosy by the fire! (also very nicely decorated)

  • We had a wonderful time at Sarah's place. It was clean, cosy and perfectly located for a weekend of exploring. The setting is beautiful and there are walks quite literally on the doorstep. We enjoyed a lovely walk along the far side of the river one morning. Good pubs in walking distance, plus a well stocked local shop as well as quick access to larger towns like Monmouth. A great base that we'd love to come back to.

    Rebecca2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to stay. Lovely and quiet. Perfect accommodation and great host. Location is stunning and peaceful. Great place to unwind and reflect.

    Daisy2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very good!

    Rich2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • If it’s a romantic getaway you want this place is perfect! The cottage is modern and stylish and it’s facilities faultless, from the fully equipped kitchen to the log burner. Really thoughtful touches like the good selection of board games (can never rely on the weather!!) and the home made cherry pie waiting for us in the fridge. Wheelers Cottage is the perfect base for the most amazing walks and there are a couple of pubs and a well stocked shop all within walking distance......Sarah is a fantastic host and we can’t wait to come back again.

    Samantha2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect cottage, very welcoming, comfortable and little touches like the cherry pie and milk were appreciated. The log burner was very toasty and easy to light. Both pubs great, found the Boat Inn very friendly. Great walks from and near the cottage. Overall highly recommend. Quick responses from Sarah and help from Claudia with a small problem, sorted immediately.

    Niki2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is lovely - solid, beautifully converted and cosy in the winter. Its location, a ten minute walk from the centre of Redbrook village, is great if you want to walk to the river Wye, pub(s) or shop / post office. Wheelwright Cottage is a quality place, there was loads of hot water, cotton sheets, fluffy towels, cherry pie, milk....the list goes on. In terms of support, help was there almost immediately when we had a minor technical problem which was sorted in seconds - you can’t ask for more than that! Sarah messaged us to say the cottage was ready before check-in, which was a kind touch. A charming discovery we made was that the brook we could hear running close by the cottage marks the boundary between England and Wales. If you stay here you will be in Wales!

    Janey2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Would highly recommend. The property is very nice, spotless and welcoming. Really nice touch with the boardgames 😊 the village is lovely and central, thanks for a lovely weekend!

  • David was a great host. Accommodating, kind, helpful; he made me feel right at home. More amenities, extras, etc. than I'd ever need, but as they say (and I agree) better to have and not need, than need and not have. If I had of forgotten anything, then I'd have been covered here. I'd highly recommend a stay here.

A cozy 'shed' with twin beds and heating for chilly nights. Situated within the owners property, sited in the centre of the Forest of Dean a mere 100 yards from one of the best mountain biking and cycling centres in the UK. The 'bike shed' looks out over the forest and bike storage. Fantastic location for walking, biking, canoeing the River Wye and exploring this wonderful location. The private washroom is 20 yards from the 'shed' up and down some well lit steps in the owners property.
The bike shed is within the owners garden. The bike shed has twin beds, complimentary tea, coffee and water. Access to washroom is up and down some well lit steps. Access to washroom is up and down some well lit steps. There is bike storage and facilities to wash your bikes. The garden is used daily by the owners family and pets (dog, cat and two free range chickens). The property has direct access to the forest with a variety of walks. We are located almost opposite Cannop cycle centre (pedalabikeaway) and its fantastic mountain biking downhill trails- one of the best in the UK.
We live in a small quiet village with forest all around. There is direct access into the forest over a small brook. We have constantly changing views as the trees go through the year. The birds and wildlife bring a morning chorus and evening song,(often very loudly). Wild boar and deer often pass the gate. The Wye valley offers walks, canoeing, riding and peregine falcons. We also keep honey bees. The Forest of Dean has some fantastic attractions for everyone including Clearwell Caves, Hopewell colliery, Puzzlewood, Secret forest, Perrygrove, steamtrains and MaryRose pottery to name a few! Nearby is a butterfly farm and maze and River Wye boat trips.

Di is welcoming and kind hearted, offering us great advice on trips as well as providing home made healthy breakfast. This room is on 1st floor, clean and tidy with a shared bathroom, and the house itself also situated in a good location. I would sure recommend this room to people who are planning a trip to wye.

We are situated less than a mile away from the village of St Briavels. It is a vibrant little village in the Forest of Dean, on the edge of the beautiful Wye Valley. It has an inn, an art gallery, a deli, a church and a castle. A monthly farmers' market is held in the village on the first Saturday morning of every month, where you can buy a whole range of local produce, including bread and cakes, cider and real ale, fish, and speciality meats.
The lodge is an annexe next to 150 year old cottage - close to Offas Dyke path and Wye Valley. The accommodation is a galleried open plan loft space with private shower room, kingsize bed, single bed and a Z bed to accommodate a 4th guest, if required. There is also a seating/lounge/tv area. Own private entrance. There is a cooking area with a double plate electric hob, a microwave/small oven, a toaster, a mini fridge and a kettle. We will take your washing up and put it through the dishwasher in the main cottage. There is free wifi, but, due to our location, it can be quite patchy. The annex also has it's own private lawned garden, with a seating area - you are more than welcome to bring a disposable BBQ. along. There is also a lovely village pub less than a mile away which serves a range of delicious meals, next to St Briavels Castle. There is also a deli/small café in the village, along with a park and tennis courts. From 2020, we will also be offering a "Bring your horse on holiday" option. We have room for 2 horses at the property. Prices to follow soon.
Discover things to do in or near St Briavels: The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is home to a great range of attractions - some man-made, some completely natural but all of them well worth a visit. You may wish to discover the area's history, or enjoy a stroll around a nature reserve. There’s an array of family oriented attractions where you can all have fun, relax or enjoy some animal magic. On rainy days there’s also plenty to do from museums to caves or how about spending some time riding a steam train through the forest or taking a cruise down the River Wye. There really is no shortage of ideas for things to see and do in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Christmas time and Clearwell Caves is the place to be. Their themed ‘Christmas Fantasy’ always comes up trumps and they never fail to deliver an awesome display that can be enjoyed by the whole family. At various times throughout the year keep an eye out for other inspirational theatre and musical events at Clearwell Caves – the setting is so unique it makes the shows very special. Father Christmas also sets up his grotto at Beechenhurst and Puzzlewood near Coleford.

  • Large loft space, very comfortable. Lovely hosts, very accommodating and approachable. Good location, good value. Lanes are dark in the Winter so take torches if you are going to walk the mile to the pub. Contact the hosts by phone (as we did) as the Sat Nav brings you to the village but not direct to the property - they gave us great directions to get to them and left a light on for us.

  • The lodge is a fantastic base, spacious, peaceful and remote on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It is clean, light and comfy, with many easily accessible walks in the Forest, or a little further afield the Brecon Beacons beckon... Tintern Abbey is also only 15 minutes drive away, and there are amazing walks along the valley. Delightful cottage set in the pretty village of Clearwell, close to excellent local pubs & restaurants. Dog friendly.
Foxglove Cottage is a very well equipped spacious three bedroom cottage recently restored to provide a high standard of accommodation. It is located on a quiet country lane in a row of four cottages, with parking outside the front door. We welcome you to a haven of tranquillity – away from the hubbub of modern life, a real ‘cottage’ feel but with a home from home range of amenities and facilities. Foxglove Cottage is the perfect setting for a leisurely break away from it all, and with central heating and wood burning stove it is cosy at any time of the year. The area is a paradise for walkers having many varied walks on the doorstep: there are maps and books provided in the cottage, covering leisurely strolls to full day hikes in the Forest, or along the Wye Valley and Offa’s Dyke path. After a busy day, why not unwind in one of the local hostelries in the village for great food & drink or enjoy a BBQ in our pretty courtyard garden. The enclosed courtyard garden is secure and suitable for pets.
The picturesque village of Clearwell is on the edge of the Forest of Dean, close to Monmouth & in an attractive valley adjacent to the Wye Valley Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. Just a five minute walk from Foxglove Cottage is Clearwell Castle plus the famous Clearwell Caves, with their atmospheric mine workings and impressive caverns with winding passageways. Puzzlewood, just up the road, is also well worth a visit, with its magical wood used recently as a film set for Dr Who and Merlin. Within easy driving distance other places of interest include Tintern Abbey, the Wye Valley, the Cotswolds, “Go Ape”, Symonds Yat, the Parkend to Lydney steam railway, Dean Heritage Museum, and Chepstow racecourse.
  • Foxglove Cottage is in a beautifully quiet village. It is well resourced inside and I think everything you might need has been thought of. Clean throughout, well designed with comfy beds and linen. There is a comprehensive guidebook should you have any queries.

  • Four of us, a toddler and a dog spent a week here in October and loved it. Such a gorgeous, cosy, cottage. Tastefully decorated with lovely added extras. It was close proximity to the stunning Forest of Dean as well as other great attractions for kids. It was lovely to come back to a log fire and a spacious kitchen to cook dinner in every evening.

  • Foxglove cottage is perfect! Comfortable and stylish inside with everything you need. Our daughters loved the toys and games and were sad to say goodbye to the teddies when we left! Outside is a very pretty courtyard garden with a handy shed in which we stored our bikes. Clearwell was a great location for us and we had a fantastic time canoeing on the Wye and cycling in the forest. We hope to return soon.

It has a separate secure entrance and absolutely beautiful views over the stunning Wye Valley. We will meet you at the property and show you around and are always in contact for any questions you may have.

Our place is thoroughly cleaned between visits. Surfaces are wiped down with anti-bacterial cleanser. Charming converted stable with private entrance via an old (uneven) cobbled courtyard. Easy walking distance to centre of Monmouth. A self-contained house consisting of sitting/dining room with small kitchen area (including fridge, hob, sink & microwave). Double doors onto a pretty terrace. Shower room with toilet. A narrow spiral staircase leads to a large bedroom with double bed.
Dating back to the 19th century, there are many original features within the stable such as low beams! Also a narrow spiral staircase for access to the bedroom - therefore we are not suitable for disabled I am afraid. The bathroom has shower only. If you want to use the sofa-bed please order for 3 guests, whether there are three of you or not, as we do make a charge of £10 per night for the sofa-bed, and it will not show the correct price if you only ask for 2 guests.
Monmouth is pretty market town in an area of outstanding natural beauty - situated on the River Wye. There are many local activities available in the area such as walking (we are not far from the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons), canoeing, cycling and lots of lovely local country pubs.
  • A fab place to stay. I cannot think there can be any nicer place in Monmouth. Great location, many thoughtful touches. Very highly recommended.

  • The Wee Calf was an absolutely amazing place to stay, Louise and Frank were really lovely people, kind and very helpful, recommending a lot of beautiful places to visit in the area. The Wee Calf is highly recommended, it has everything you need with all the lovely touches which Louise is more than happy to explain how to use. The four poster queen bed is a great touch and so very comfortable and the hot tub is relaxing after a big explore in the special forest of dean. Thank you Julie, Sue + Saffy xx

    Julie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, what a cute little place to stay. The wee calf was incredible and we loved the little touches and the hot tub after a long day out exploring with the dogs. So many great things to do in the area, we will definitely will be back to explore more and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!! Louise and Frank were so welcoming and gave us some great food tips. The local Chinese takeaway was brilliant and we enjoyed a meal at the Butcher's Arms. We would highly recommend to anyone 😁

    Rachael2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time here. Lovely secluded area. Hot tub was incredibly close to the building so we didn’t get too cold after getting out in January! It was also well covered so didn’t get windy and felt very private. Very close to lots of good areas for walking. We had a particularly good meal in The Miner’s Arms in nearby Whitecroft. Louise was a fantastic host and responded very quickly to messages.

The lovely village of Lydbrook is situated between the Wye Valley and The Royal Forest of Dean, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nestling amidst the village’s picturesque houses are the village store, Post Office, fish and chip shop and a number of pubs with restaurants. Close by are Goodrich Castle and the market town of Ross-on-Wye. Stroll along the river bank, take a cruise, visit Symonds Yat or simply immerse yourself in the charm of the Forest of Dean.
Our guest studio is ideal for guests who seek a clean, comfortable place to stay whilst exploring the Forest of Dean. It offers a tranquil retreat, a beautiful view and a range of pubs, inns, restaurants and takeaway venues nearby. The kitchenette is equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, slow cooker and mini hob to enable visitors to prepare snacks and light meals. We have recently installed a small dishwasher. Please contact us before making a booking if you would like to bring a pet, bikes, fishing rods etc. We charge £10 per pet per night and can provide a lockable store for bikes and fishing rods.
  • A lovely place to stay! A relaxing, peaceful studio to spend time in. Very clean, spacious and welcoming. Had everything we needed for a week away - we were able to cook simple meals in the little kitchen. Fantastic views while eating breakfast. A little tricky to find but Clare's detailed instructions were spot on. Clare's communication was great and we received a lovely, friendly welcome when we arrived. A great base for exploring The Forest of Dean area; so many places nearby to visit etc. We visited during the dreadful floods of Storm Dennis but were still able to go out and about easily enough with a little extra planning and advice from Clare on local road closures.

Tucked away in the woods, Sacred Tree Spirit is a beautifully quirky escape from the stresses of modern life. Jon is a sound therapy practitioner and craftsman, so you could have a relaxing sound session or learn to make a spoon during your stay. There are all manner of interesting details in the house and in the grounds, a fire pit and wood fired spa pool are amongst them. A sculpture trail is an upcoming project. This unique place to stay might interest someone ready to rekindle creativity.

  • Jon’s place is a fantastic, peaceful woodland retreat! Exactly as advertised. Perfect for a relaxing getaway or adventure in the Wye valley. Just a short walk away from many of the hiking trails that run all the way along the river and right next to some excellent pubs in Symonds Yat. The location couldn’t be any more perfect. Jon was a fantastic host during my stay. He even drew a detailed map to help me with my walk to the pub on the first day. I would highly recommend staying here and have already planned to go back myself!

    Andrew2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, quirky woodland retreat. There really is no place quite like it. Jon is incredibly helpful and friendly and has great knowledge of the local area and the best places to walk in the surrounding woods. He and his partner went out of their way to accommodate me at short notice and make me welcome. Home cooked meals are offered for an extra small fee: home from home! But of a magic place really. Would definitely visit again.

Mike and Diana very easy to communicate with and really went the extra mile with all the lovely additions to the flat including food, toys, books and games. There was a cot and a high chair which was a big help too. We would definitely consider returning in the future! Great experience and great holiday!

  • Excellent find; ideal location with lovely views across the valley. Perfect spot for walking, and lots of maps/walking books in the kitchen which we made good use of. The apartment had everything we needed, and was clean on our arrival. Mike sent through all the details we needed in good time, and it was a hassle-free stay. The apartment is really spacious - there were only two of us but even with four people there is plenty of space, with a large kitchen area, with sofas, plus another lounge with more sofas and a large dining table, and two bathrooms.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the utility room with storage for boots and coats, a washing machine, ironing board, iron and counter-top freezer. A covered external walkway leads from the utility room to the conservatory which has a comfy 3-seater sofa and table and is the perfect place for an afternoon read or as a playroom for children. The first floor is accessed via an oak staircase off the lounge. The bedrooms and hallway have thick natural wool carpeting, hand painted furniture and solid wood windows with stunning views over the valley. There are two bedrooms in the cottage – the master bedroom has a kingsize bed and the second bedroom either two singles or a king (please specify your preferred arrangement when booking). Beds will be made before your arrival and the towels will be laid out. All bed and towel linen is 100% Egyptian cotton. The Bathroom has a full length bath with separate shower above, heated towel rail, WC and counter top basin. The bathroom also benefits from some of the best views of the valley from the cottage. Spring Cottage is set within an acre of its own land which includes a pretty cottage garden. A barbecue and outdoor table and chairs are provided during the warmer months. Above this garden is an apple orchard and beyond this is woodland, which is blanketed in bluebells during the spring. Parking for two vehicles is available in the driveway. Please note vehicular access to Spring Cottage is via a one and half mile long narrow single-lane road which whilst suitable for cars is not suitable for vehicles larger than a Ford Transit. Children of all ages are very welcome. We can provide a highchair and travel cot if requested but don’t provide cot linen as guests generally prefer to bring their own. We also have toys, books, board games and DVDs to keep our younger guests entertained! We are dog friendly! Up to two dogs are welcome at Spring Cottage but in the interests of other guests they are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture. A fee of £5 is payable per dog per night to cover the additional time needed to thoroughly clean the cottage for the next guests.
Spring Cottage is spoilt by the number of great options for places to eat and drink nearby including the following favourites: The Brockweir Inn, with it’s open fire, serves wholesome pub food, ale and cider and is a short one mile walk from the cottage. Tintern, two miles away, has a number of pubs. Our favourite for steak is The Rose & Crown Inn in Tintern and for a fine view of the Abbey and a hearty pub meal The Anchor Inn. A little further afield are two fine gastro-pubs both serving quality food in traditional pub surroundings: The Inn at Penalt and the Ostrich Inn in Newland are both 10 miles away. For fine dining, we would thoroughly recommend the Michelin Star restaurant The Whitebrook, which is 8 miles from Spring Cottage. Past guests of Spring Cottage have also recommended a number of restaurants in Monmouth (15 miles) including The Misbah and No 7 Church Street for Bangladeshi and modern European food respectively.
  • We stayed at the cottage with our 4 month old baby. It was spacious, so clean and incredibly quiet and peaceful. It's tucked away at the end of a country lane so all you can hear are birds and nature! There is a garden room which was perfect for practicing yoga or having a quiet read in - an extra hideaway! The log burner was so relaxing, and the bed incredibly comfy. Even with our baby waking I slept really well! I want to own somewhere like this cottage :-) its also in the perfect location for lots of walks.

  • Spring Cottage made the perfect Xmas getaway for my partner and I and our dog (which left a spare room with two single beds unused - so plenty room for families/bigger groups) . The place was pristine and very homely providing everything we could need and more, even a decorated Xmas tree. The location is stunning and very peaceful, lots of owls to be heard at night and great adventures to be had in walking distance so that we could abandon driving for a few days. The kingsize bed was like sleeping on a cloud, the bath lovely and deep and plenty of wood for the log burner, perfect for relaxing after long muddy walks. The kitchen is big and well equipped so made preparing our Xmas dinner a joy. We'd love to see the area in the Spring/Summer, so hope to book another stay. Would highly recommend.

  • We had a really lovely time. The cottage is in the ideal location. Away from the hustle and bustle and surrounded by stunning countryside and walks. The cottage was clean, cosy and warm. We had a really lovely stay and will definately come back.

  • The perfect cottage for a relaxing retreat! This detached cottage is very homely, with a lovely sitting room, a very well equipped kitchen and extremely comfortable beds. Warm and cosy, with a fabulously wood burner, radiators and tons of hot water. We had a dog with us, and the enclosed garden and tiled lobby were perfect for muddy paws and boots etc. David was a great host, and very communicative and quick to respond to any queries. Highly recommend this hide-away and will return if at all possible!

  • Just returned from a superb stay at the Spring Cottage. It was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. The directions David gave us were spot on. The area was absolutely beautiful and really peaceful. The king size bed was very comfortable and we were most grateful for the heating being on when we arrived at 5pm on Friday. Just 1 thing we missed though - it would be great if there was an ice tray to fill up! 5* trip and would definitely return.

  • This is a hidden gem in the woods. Secluded and tucked away up a quiet lane, but with all the mod cons. The house is comfortable, clean and modern with nice features, esp the log burner. Beds very comfortable, plenty of hot water and kitchen well equipped. Autumn is a beautiful time to visit with numerous walks on the doorstep. Look forward to returning in the spring as there is plenty more to see and do in the area. PS. Very practical house for dog lovers.
