This is a very special place. Mark and his family were super responsive and helpful. They provided extra pots and pans for us to use, set up extra beds and were always quick to respond with ideas or suggestions based on our questions. The Hogan itself was incredible - lovely and …

This traditional Navajo hogan is an amazing place. It's neat and well kept and organized. One has to get ready for the camping experience though. The showers are off location and the outhouse is an outhouse The location is unbeatable, basically in the heart of Monument Valley. T…

The hogon was a great experience. The sunset and the stars were amazing. We loved being joined and guarded by the dogs. The two local restaurants were mediocre and overpriced. If we were to visit again we would take advantage of the camp stove instead. The outhouse is, well, …

The location of this Hogan is NOT in the park, it is about 10 miles out of the main gates and located in someone's front yard. The beds are old, really short and uncomfortable. The concept is great, the story behind it is great just don't be misled. The value isn't there for the…

Response from Mark:
This is the perfect example of a guest, who has in their mind what Navajo people are or what Navajo accommodations should be. Except they are disappointed when they are completely wrong. Navajo all live by the roads, we do so because that's where we are waiting for electricity and running water, how our kids catch the bus, and how we are found by tourists. All Navajo you see on your way here all live on the roads. The other issue raised by Kim is that we somehow advertised that we were "inside" the park. We are Navajo, we live here, we grew up here, I think we know what Monument Valley is. It is where you were, and there are 18 Monuments outside of the hogan that shows you that you are in Monument Valley. No we are not in the commercial area, inside the Tribal Park. So here is where your misconceptions actually ruin your own trip. The entrance to the Navajo Tribal Park used to be at Gouldings, when Gouldings refused to see the hotel to the Navajo Tribe in their Land Buy Back Program, the Tribe decided to build another hotel, 4 years ago called the View Hotel. They moved the entrance to the Tribal Park to the Welcome Center, and then to the View Hotel when it was completed. But if you look at Gouldings they too claim they are in Monument Valley like we do, because it is Monument Valley, we have more Monuments than the Tribal Park, and there's no cost here because we are the residential area. its sad that ignorance can impact a trip so greatly, and Kim, unfortunately is an example of this. We ask everyone, if everything that they see is okay. She said it was wonderful. I'm not sure what she means by concept or story or being misled. She seems to want to be misled, because she doesn't know what she's talking about in the first place. Its sad, and unfortunate, and we feel sorry for her attitude. Because she missed the 18 Monuments that were right outside.

My husband and I stayed here for one night - it was great! It was a different experience but we had a great time. The beds were comfortable and the stars were great. I will echo what others have written and if you dont like dogs you may want to find somewhere else to stay. Th…
