Attractive modern daylight basement apartment in one of Seattle's most charming historic lakeside neighborhoods. Private entrance with self check-in, large living room, private kitchen, and separate bedroom.

The space
This entirely separate and private daylight basement apartment is a modern addition to our 1914 craftsman home. Completely remodeled in 2013, the apartment has all the modern comforts of home, from a new mini-kitchen to a large flat screen TV. Unique original art and folk art are used throughout the apartment.

The large living area has a comfortable L-shaped sofa and TV. Cosy throw blankets, lots of colorful cushions, and a unique coffee table create a comfortable and attractive environment to relax after a day of activity.

The kitchen includes a washer-dryer, coffee maker, microwave (no oven) and toaster so you can enjoy a light breakfast in your apartment (coffee and snacks will be waiting for you when you arrive).

The separate bedroom has a comfortable queen bed (no closet, but plenty of hanger and drawer space). We're happy to accommodate up to 2 children on a spare mattress in the living room on request.

COVID preparedness: Self check-in is private and contact-free. We are following Airbnb's cleaning and sanitation protocols. Our neighborhood has lots of green space and ways to enjoy the outdoors, as well as restaurants with take-out and outdoor dining. We leave at least 2 days between guests to maximize health and safety.

BEFORE YOU BOOK: The apartment is in our home, and we love to know a bit about our guests. We really appreciate it when guests share a bit about your trip in your message at the time of booking! What brings you to Seattle? Will it be your first visit? Who are you traveling with?

NOTE TO GUESTS: This apartment is not suitable for more than 2 adults. We are happy to accommodate up to 2 children at no extra charge.

Guest access
Private entrance, separately keyed from main house.

Other things to note
Our apartment is a GOOD FIT for guests who want to:

Feel like you live in Seattle. You can’t get more Seattle than Mt Baker. Craftsman houses, water, parks, views of Mt Rainier, and access to downtown. If you want to get away from sterile hotels, this is a great spot.

Lots of space for the money. The living area is extensive, with a big L-shaped sofa and plenty of room to stretch out or do your evening yoga. Separate kitchen and bedroom mean you’ll have enough space to feel at home.

Close to downtown, but also great access to parks. We’re not right in downtown, but we’re awfully close. You’ll have the best of both worlds – space and nature and quiet, plus an easy commute to all the sights.

Kids welcome. Crying baby? Kids running around the living room? We've lived it, and you're not going to bother us one bit!

Friendly neighbors. Unlike some Airbnb’s we’ve stayed in, the neighbors here are happy to have you around! You can rest easy knowing your comings and goings are welcome.

Well-traveled hosts. Our family of 4 has traveled all over the world, frequently staying in Airbnb homes. We look forward to meeting our guests and sharing in your adventure.

You might want to CONSIDER these things in determining whether this is the right spot for you:

We live upstairs. While we are respectful and quiet, you will sometimes hear our footsteps and our dog.

Pets in our household. Our cat Oscar and dog Archie live on premises.

Partial kitchen. If you want to be able to fix breakfast or microwave a dinner, great! If you’re looking for a cook’s kitchen, this is not the place. Our kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, but no oven and no dishwasher.

No off-street parking. Street parking is plentiful, but there is no sheltered or secured place for your car.

Location

Seattle, Washington, United States

Mt Baker is one of Seattle's original street car suburbs. It's close to all the downtown attractions, and particularly convenient for Pioneer Square, Capital Hill and the waterfront. But its leafy streets, lakeside location and relaxed vibe make for a comfortable and welcoming break from downtown.

This historic neighborhood was originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers. Most houses are from around 1915. Lots of parks, several nice public beaches along Lake Washington, and excellent bike routes make this a great neighborhood for both kids and adults. Our house faces a park-like boulevard where neighbors gather to walk their dogs and play frisbee.

Good dining and shopping options are close at hand. Walk to Mio Posto, our local (and delicious) bistro. Walk, bike or drive to up and coming Columbia City, with a large new PCC whole foods grocery, and lots of hip dining options.

Rainier Valley is Seattle's most diverse community, so there are also many wonderful international dining options, from Ethiopian to Vietnamese to Peruvian.
