Nestled amongst tall cedars, Tiny Haven is situated in the magical south end of Salt Spring Island and is surrounded by lush rainforest, idyllic and secluded beaches, and rolling farmland. Whether you've come to retreat into quietude or adventure in nature, you'll feel at home in this private, self-contained and uniquely appointed little space.

The space
Tiny Haven is a 330 sq ft custom-built tiny house for up to 4 guests, including children aged 5 years and older. We lovingly built this home ourselves with a focus on using reclaimed and natural materials, and with its large and ample windows and warm wood tones, there is a sense of the surrounding natural world being invited inside. Breath in the scent of cedar as you enter and allow this warm and cozy little A-frame to lure you into relaxation.

The home boasts many unique features, including a kneeling-height sleeping loft with queen bed, accessible by a sturdy wooden ladder. This is an adult-only space, not suitable for children under age 12. The second bedroom offers cot-sized bunk beds, suitable for children aged 5 and above, and has its own outside entrance and attached deck. The front of the house features a large covered deck and private fenced area, a perfect space to relax, have a barbecue and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this quiet neighbourhood. Venture to nearby farm stands and enjoy preparing your meals in the well-appointed kitchen, complete with a gas stovetop and oven. The bathroom is equipped with a eco-sensitive and user-friendly Separett composting toilet.

The house feels surprisingly spacious inside, but please note, the hallways, interior doorways, and shower are slightly more narrow than standard and the kitchen ceiling height is 6'3" at the lowest point. Tall, broad-shouldered folks may need to dip and sway occasionally!

Explore the road's four beach access points, including the gorgeous Tsawout Reserve Trail that connects by foot to nearby Fulford Harbour and its quaint shops and eateries. Launch a kayak, play or forage in the surrounding woods, or amble through the forest, field and shore habitats of nearby Ruckle Park. Hop on our complimentary bikes and pedal through the breathtaking pastoral scenery of south Salt Spring.

Where you’ll be

Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada

We simply cannot say enough good things about the deep south of Salt Spring. We can direct you to several excellent nearby hiking trails, and where to eat afterwards, from the nearby Salt Spring Bread Company, to Tony's Tarts and The Salt Spring Island Cheese Company. The Mercantile at Fulford Harbour, a 12 minute drive from Tiny Haven, is a surprisingly well stocked and licensed grocer. Fulford Harbour also boasts a waterfront restaurant, post office, pottery studio, and an eclectic gift shop.
Ganges is a pleasant and scenic 20 minute drive north. Make sure to have cash on hand and drive slowly, as you'll want to stop at the numerous roadside farms stands for fresh produce, baked goods and flowers.
If you want to avoid crowds, discover hidden beaches, cycle on country roads and sample the slower pace of life that Salt Spring has to offer, the south is where it's at.

A warm welcome to our Airb&b community and guests. Thank you for your interest in our guest house here on beautiful Salt Spring Island. Tiny Haven was home to our young family for nearly four years, a space we constructed ourselves in order to live simply, consciously and in harmony with nature and the seasons. For over twenty years we were tourists on Salt Spring, camping, hiking and exploring the island's lakes, farms, eateries and hidden beaches. We always dreamed of making this island our home and in 2018 we rolled our tiny house onto the Fulford ferry and settled it into its forever home. We feel incredibly privileged to be raising our two children in a rural community that values deep nature connection, slow food, creativity and play. Jocelyn is a Registered Nurse who is passionate about hiking, cycling with her children on her family cargo bike, food gardening, cooking from scratch and camping in our province's incredible parks. She loves equally Salt Spring's vibrant, buzzing summers and slow, drizzly winters. Jarvis is a home-based software developer who can't resist a DIY project. From carpentry to gardening to mechanical pursuits, he enjoys getting his hands dirty and learning new skills. He is an avid cyclist who loves road tripping, camping, homemade apple pie and a fully stocked wood shed. As a family of four we delight in the simple pleasures of island life; taking night walks on our quiet road and marvelling at how bright the stars shine, sharing picnic dinners on the beach, and gorging ourselves on blackberries in the summer. We strive to live lightly and reduce our carbon footprint by eating local, buying secondhand, cycling, avoiding plastics, and finding recreation and rejuvenation in our own beautiful backyard. We hope you'll come share our little slice of paradise in Salt Spring's stunning south end.

During your stay

We live on site with our two children and our home is slightly uphill from the tiny house. We love being available to our guests and are happy to share our knowledge of the local area. We also value your privacy and desire for relaxation, so take as much time to yourself as you desire. The tiny house has a clearly defined area and it's own marked parking spot directly adjacent to it.

Our children are seven and three and as a family we love to garden, build, stack firewood, take our meals outside in the warmer months and frolic and play together around the home. We feel blessed to share our beautiful surroundings with you and you can expect to see us outside puttering and playing. Enjoy your private space, and let us know what your needs are.
