Other things to note
The village of Carro is located in the town of Martigues (13500), with a view of the Mediterranean Sea; Carro is named seaside resort.

This small authentic village of fishermen and also the first port of the seinche with tuna, and 4th port of the department of the mouths of the Rhone. Every morning on this small fishing port, you will discover from 8:30 to 12h the fish market (subject to good weather).

The culinary specialty of Carro and Martigues:
The Poutargue - also called martal caviar. These are mullet eggs that are dried in their own pockets. They are prepared in the only 2 remaining calens in France "Martigues" and "Port-de-Bouc". Calen fishing is a still traditional fishing technique for catching mullet.

Water activities in Carro and La Couronne:
Carro is also recognized throughout the territory for its windsurf spot at the spot of Arnettes. The strong southwesterly and easterly winds make it possible to hit the shoal of the sea and thus create waves of several meters in height. Stand-up paddling, diving, windsurfing are also practiced on the coast of Carro and The crown

Carro - The crown count 6 beaches. Between large sandy beaches and small coves, the blue coast is ideal for family holidays. Note on these beaches that dogs are not accepted, that some are secure in the summer, that most car parks are not free and that at Carro you will find a beach of naturists (FFN license required)

Heritage in Carro - The crown:
Do not forget when you are on Carro, the magnificent exhibition "Between sea and hills", located on the 1st floor of the fishing circle. This exhibition traces the history of the small villages of Carro and the Crown, its archeology, fishing, stones, agriculture ... in the form of photographs, testimonies, objects of yesteryear.

Activities in Carro - The crown:
- Hiking, the famous coastal path or GR51 or called the path of customs, you can discover all the coastline of the blue coast, through the creeks of Niollon, Mejean ...
The coastal path, 15km long from Bonnieu beach to Boumandariel cove, along the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Many panels along your walk will present a sample of the riches of our heritage, marine and terrestrial ecology, geology, archeology ....
Along the trail on the crown, you will see the fossil display, some are over 20 to 140 million years old.
- The botanical loop, in the heart of the village of Carro, 800 meters, you will discover the typical Mediterranean plants, between the scrubland and the pine forest, the panels will explain the plants, benefits, secrets ...

- The course health, the village of the crown, took the direction course health, you will discover activities for the whole family. Over a distance of 1 km 600, mixing pine forest and Mediterranean sea.
- The Carro market, the crown takes place every Wednesday and Saturday.

The sandy beaches among the largest of the "pearls of the Blue Coast", freely accessible, arranged and supervised for the most, have for several years, the Blue Flag for the quality of their bathing waters. A naturist beach welcomes members of the French Naturism Federation.

Carro Beach
Beach of sand and pebbles.
Carro is a charming little fishing port still active near Martigues. Its fish market, very popular in the region, is a feast for the eyes and taste buds. The beach of Carro, located near the port, is half sand half pebbles, not very big but enough to accommodate families and surfers who come, when the winds allow it, to face some waves in its waters.

It is also an excellent diving spot, like many corners of the Côte Bleue but its particularity here is the career of Baou Tailla. An ancient career, at the water's edge, that allows diving and that followers love to borrow through a siphon that sends them deep.

The Côte Bleue has nothing to envy to the beaches of the Côte d'Azur, between large sandy beaches and small coves, it will charm you.
Turquoise water, fine sand, blue sky and the sun as a witness, you are not in the most beautiful islands of the Pacific but on the Blue Coast.
From the small village of Carro to the creeks of Niolon, with family or friends, all can taste the joys of the sea.
You will find all beaches and information about them, free or paid parking, sand or pebbles, naturist beach, accessible to disabled people, dogs, no smoking ...
The beaches of the village of Carro:
The so-called Carro beach is located in the heart of the village towards the fishing port. This beach of 1500m2 mixes sand and pebbles. You can access it quite easily all year round, be careful during the summer season the parking spaces around are paying (and yes, it is necessary that the town of Martigues get rich !!!, do not hesitate to take some alleyways if you want a holiday to eat ice cream instead of paying for parking).
This beach of Carro offers public showers and during the summer a first aid station. This small beach is nice, with a little green and shaded area for children, only it is forbidden to picnic on the grass with panels (I do not know what serve these panels since everyone picnics just under the panel, but hey, attention).
The shops and restaurants are located next door, also the bazaar if you have forgotten the balloon or the buoys ...
The beaches of La Couronne:
There are 4 beaches at the Crown
The large beach of Verdon, located just between La Couronne and Carro, this sandy beach with 24 000m2 is the largest of the entire Côte Bleue. As for that of Carro, access parking is not free during the summer (from June to September), the parking is quite pleasant with grass, shade but we do not understand why this development has been made as tourists prefer to see the sea than restaurants and it is forbidden to picnic on it.
The beach has a playground, net for volleyball, showers and public toilets, lockers and a first aid station during the summer.
Very popular for family vacations but also by locals, so watch out for the world on weekends.
The restaurants on the beach offer the opportunity to enjoy all day.
This beach is also accessible to people with reduced mobility (ready during the summer and near the agents of the coast 04 42 49 63 03 of amphibious chairs (tiralos, seahorses ...).
Events take place on this beach, like weekend kites, fireworks ...
The beach of the Old Crown, mixing sand and pebbles on 50m2, this small beach remains the benchmark of the local, discreet in this small cove on the way of customs. The view of the lighthouse and the cliffs gives an air of elsewhere.
Beach Saulce, this small beach of about 2500m2 is the holiday resort of campers as for the beach of Sainte Croix which adjoins (4 000m2). All 2 are located in the very heart of the campsites of the Crown and make the happiness of the families of campers come to relax within the Blue Coast. All in fine sand, they benefit from parking (always paying) a summer aid station, catering on site or nearby and for the beach Saulce public showers.
Small particularity for the beach of Sainte Croix, it is from March to November the place of shooting for the television series "Camping Paradise".

The other beaches of Martigues:
Not far from the Blue Coast just 5km, 3 other beaches can make your happiness.
The beach of Bonnieu or Ponteau as the martégaux call it, is a very small beach of 30m2 mixing the sand and the pebbles. You will find parking facilities there for free.
The Laurons beach, this sandy beach of 100m2 offers picnic tables, parking and a first aid station during the summer.
The naturist beach of Bonnieu, accessible only with the license FFN, this small beach of sand and pebble is the happiness of the lovers of the very nature. Hidden among the rocks, be careful because the GR51 normally passes right in front, some tourists can access it without doing it on purpose. Play areas, picnic, snack, showers and toilets are also inside and a parking.
To know everything about this beach, to ask questions or to ask for your FFN license, do not hesitate to consult the website of "Naturistes de Martigues"

The beaches of Sausset-les-Pins:
On the 8km of coast that counts the village of Sausset-les-Pins you will find 7 beaches and many small creeks. From West to East.
Beaches of the lime kiln of Anse du Petit Nid, these plagettes as they are called are composed of sand and pebble, you will find restaurants nearby, free parking and for the second public showers.
Beach center is composed of pebble, with parking access and city center. Public showers.
Beach of the Corniche in the center of Sausset, this sand and pebble beach offers public showers and toilets, free parking, a summer aid station and access for people with reduced mobility (consult the tourist office for more information).
A small beach after the 2nd ledge on General Leclerc Avenue accepts dogs.
Beaches of the little Rouveau and Grand Rouveau, pebble beaches.

The beaches of Carry-le-Rouet:
Several beaches adorn the seaside resort of Carry-le-Rouet. From west to east.
Beach or cove Tuilière, consisting of sand and pebbles, this small cove near the city center is a treat for holidaymakers. Shower and toilets, free parking. Next door are 3 small identical plagettes and 2 in the heart of the city center (without toilets and shower).

Beach or cove Cap Rousset, mixing sand and pebbles, this beach is located in the heart of the Carry-le-Rouet marine reserve. You will find a first aid station in the summer season, shower and toilets.

Plage du Rouet, one of the most important of Carry, this beach of sand and pebbles offers families to have fun while tanning, with its small playground, rental companies (Kayaks, mattresses ...), a first aid station (summer season), showers and toilets. Pay parking caution.
This beach is accessible to people with reduced mobility (consult the tourist office for more information).
Calanque salt water, this wild natural beach is located after the Rouet beach, on the GR51 Méjean direction. Access is difficult and is done by stairs going down on the way (hard drive back). Calanque only of pebbles and without supervision.

The beaches of Ensuès-la-Redonne:
Some small plots or creeks are located on the coast of Ensuès and are wild beaches (unattended, do not hesitate to contact the town hall of Ensuès-la-Redonne for all information on regulations and the quality of bathing water ).

Beach Figuières, this beach of large pebbles with a width of 5m and 50m long. Far from the center of Ensuès, this beach has no surveillance and is only accessible to pedestrians.

Beaches of the Redonne, beach of Dugue or Escalayole, these small wild pebble beaches are oriented Southwest, sheltered from the winds because protected creeks. Access is difficult on these beaches and are mainly on foot.
Calanques de Méjean, wild beach in the center of Méjean.

The beaches of Rove:
Where instead the wild creeks. Between the creeks of Niolon and the coves of the Vesse. Difficult to access, unattended and adorned with pebbles. They are nice to rest after walking along the GR51.

The art of living in Carro:

The village of Carro is for some a discovery. A part of the world where the road ended its course in the sea, so close to the cities but so far from their agitation. But for many, for several generations, it is synonymous with holiday memories, stories of cabanas, aperitifs, petanque parties, naps to the sound of cicadas and shellfish hunts. In short, this lifestyle that seems straight out of a postcard of the Provençal coastline but which is far from being a legend ...
