This is Grandma and Grandpa's farmhouse opened up and made available for you! We are Grandma and Grandpa, the kids have all grown and left home, but it is still warm, cozy, and full of love for you to come, settle, and stay a bit. We are off the premises except to come feed the animals (horses and chickens) and tend the gardens or orchards as needed. Otherwise, you have the whole area to kick back and enjoy!

The space
The homestead has been in the family since 1893 and the property is still being actively farmed. Ron’s grandfather purchased the land from the Menasha Wooden Ware Company after it had been used as a logging camp and all the pine was logged off. The land was sold as farmland to anyone adventurous and industrious enough to buy it and tackle the removal of numerous stumps and even more numerous rocks strewn all over from long ago glaciers. There remains rock “fences” dividing the fields from each other and the woods, adding to the country charm of this part of Wisconsin, and evidence of on-going “rock-picking” that has taken place for over a century.
There is a beautiful maple woods in back of the house, still being used to produce maple syrup in the spring. The sap is gathered from pails and cooked down to syrup over an open wood fire the same way Ron’s grandparents did in the 1920’s. You can drive and walk around the loop driveway through the woods to see the sugar shack, and enjoy a spot in the center of the woods set up for campfires. Three of our daughters used this maple woods as the setting for their weddings…looking up, the tall trees took on the majestic appearance of a cathedral.

Guest access
The house was built in 2003 in a farmhouse style and decorated with furniture and pieces from the late 1800’s to the 1960’s, reminiscent of how Grandma kept her house. Truly an eclectic assortment, from the old threshing table with an oil lamp in the center, to a stereo console to play LP’s. To bring us more up-to-date, the house is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, and wi-fi internet access. The kitchen is fully stocked with dinnerware, cooking utensils, stove, oven, and refrigerator for your use. The upstairs bath/washroom has a clawfoot iron bathtub with shower surround, set up to be an old-fashioned luxurious experience, whether as a tub full of hot bubble bath, or a refreshing hot shower. The porch, facing the southwest, is a favorite place to watch sunsets or storms approaching, visit with friends over coffee and dessert, or just chug a cold glass of iced lemonade after a game of croquet.

Location

Tigerton, Wisconsin, United States

Our farmstead is centrally located between Green Bay, Appleton, and Wausau. All are about an hour’s drive from us. The Green Bay Packers’ Lambeau field is about a 75 minute drive. Rib Mountain State Park with the Ski Hill is about 60 minutes away. We are 7 miles away from the Caroline Lions Colorama Trail ride with over 1000 horses doing the trail. Tigerton’s ATV park is 2 miles to the northwest of us, with lots of great trails for riding ATV’s, your horses, or just walking. The Embarrass river runs through the rocky gorge near the park, making for some beautiful, untamed, wilderness scenery. Within walking distance from our place is the Wiowash State Bike trail, taking you past the big split rock by which the little community we are in acquired its name from the Chicago and Northwestern railroad company when the rails were first being built here in 1879. Shawano County is known as the Barn Quilt Capitol of Wisconsin, and there are various tours set up in the county to bike, or even ride in an Amish buggy, to view these colorful quilt squares on the barns with the beautiful Wisconsin countryside in the background.
