This 1880s townhouse has stunning Hudson River views and is a perfect place for guests of all backgrounds to breathe deep and take a break. Autumn foliage on the hills is not to be missed! Victorian details combine with modern conveniences in a living room and front porch overlooking the Hudson River, a private bedroom, and a dining room that opens to a spacious kitchen & back yard. Within blocks are restaurants, art galleries & shops. Great hiking, wine trails & more are a short drive away.
Two cats live in this space; both are sweethearts. One is very sociable (Sokito, male) and my previously very shy cat (my little tiger cat named Bob) is beginning to come out of her shell! For short stays of 2-3 nights, there will no need to feed or water the cats. There is no litter box (or smell) as both cats roam freely outside via the cat door in the kitchen. For longer stays, we can work out arrangements for me to come in and take care of the cats.
There is a baby grand piano in the living room. It's not always in the best of tune, but guests are welcome to use it - with due consideration to guests and tenants upstairs - and my sheet music (mostly American Songbook tunes from the 20s, 30s and 40s).
Guests can use the entire apartment, including fully equipped kitchen, and enjoy both the front porch and the back yard.
Interaction with guests
I like providing guests from all walks of life with a beautiful location, comfortable rooms, an equipped kitchen and lots of privacy! If a need arises, I will be nearby, or will have arranged for a close friend to be available.
Other things to note
Newburgh has great restaurants to suit a range of tastes and budget, cafes and bars. Many are within walking distance of the house, and the walk includes some not so nice blocks where you will want to keep your eyes open and won't want to walk alone.
I have a binder of restaurant, hiking, art, music and shopping recommendations for your perusal and more detailed brochures of local attractions.
- NO SHOES in the house. I provide a shoe rack and slippers; you can also bring your own indoor-only shoes.
- NO SMOKING. This is a strictly non-smoking property.
- No matches or candles.
- No drug use.
- No outside pets are allowed; my two independent cats live in this apartment.
I've been a traveller all my life, starting at age six weeks when my family moved from one Navy base in Florida to another in Virginia.
After 14 years in New York City, I moved to the Hudson Valley. While new to Newburgh, I've been in this general area for nearly 20 years - and I love it - the natural beauty, the diversity of people, the four distinct seasons, the art/music/culture, the hiking and the proximity to New York City.
Sustainable agriculture and food justice have been both my passion and the center of my non-profit professional life for the past 25 years.
Italy and Spain are travel favorites, as is Yellowstone.
Swing dancing is a new passion and I'm lucky to have great teachers, fellow dancers and dances right here in Newburgh and throughout the Hudson Valley.
My favorite music is from the 1930s and 40s. Favorite poets include Rilke and Mary Oliver.
For fun, I garden, sing, hike, play the piano, eat good food with great friends and sip good New York wine. Now that I have Riversong, I love to sit quietly and watch the river flow while listening to the cat on my lap purr.
