This 1880s townhouse has stunning Hudson River views and is a perfect place for guests of all backgrounds to breathe deep and take a break. Autumn foliage on the hills is not to be missed! Victorian details combine with modern conveniences in a living room and front porch overlooking the Hudson River, a private bedroom, and a dining room that opens to a spacious kitchen & back yard. Within blocks are restaurants, art galleries & shops. Great hiking, wine trails & more are a short drive away.

The space

Two cats live in this space; both are sweethearts. One is very sociable (Sokito, male) and my previously very shy cat (my little tiger cat named Bob) is beginning to come out of her shell! For short stays of 2-3 nights, there will no need to feed or water the cats. There is no litter box (or smell) as both cats roam freely outside via the cat door in the kitchen. For longer stays, we can work out arrangements for me to come in and take care of the cats.

There is a baby grand piano in the living room. It's not always in the best of tune, but guests are welcome to use it - with due consideration to guests and tenants upstairs - and my sheet music (mostly American Songbook tunes from the 20s, 30s and 40s).

Guest access

Guests can use the entire apartment, including fully equipped kitchen, and enjoy both the front porch and the back yard.

Interaction with guests

I like providing guests from all walks of life with a beautiful location, comfortable rooms, an equipped kitchen and lots of privacy! If a need arises, I will be nearby, or will have arranged for a close friend to be available.

Other things to note

Newburgh has great restaurants to suit a range of tastes and budget, cafes and bars. Many are within walking distance of the house, and the walk includes some not so nice blocks where you will want to keep your eyes open and won't want to walk alone.

I have a binder of restaurant, hiking, art, music and shopping recommendations for your perusal and more detailed brochures of local attractions.

Kathy was a great host. She was very cooperative and flexible. The space was great. We loved her cats and her view. Parking was ample, and the full kitchen was of great use. Thanks Kathy!

Omar, it was such a pleasure to host you and Ruby. You were so friendly and easy going and took beautiful care of the apartment. Best of all, my cats got lots of TLC from a true cat whisperer and cat lover! I hope you'll visit again soon, you're certainly welcome any time.

Kathy's apartment is so perfect for a weekend trip to Beacon/Newburgh! It was exactly like she described. The kitties are sweet, but will leave you alone if you are not a big cat person (like me). The apartment is SO CLEAN and spacious. We were bummed that the Beacon-Newburgh ferry doesn't run on the weekends because the dock is a brisk 15-20 min walk away, but it would be great for anyone staying during weekdays.

Response from Kathy:
Sarah, You and Paul were amazing guests. Thank you so much for staying at Riversong and being kind to my kitties despite not being a big cat person! I also deeply appreciate that you left the apartment as clean as you found it - it's hard to express what a wonderful feeling that is for a host. I do hope you'll come back when the ferry is running! You are more than welcome any time.

Kathy's place has it all! It is filled with thoughtful touches, an amazing view, is impeccably clean, is in walking distance to local restaurants, and is conveniently located to local attractions like Storm King, Dia:Beacon and so much more! Although we didn't have an opportunity to meet Kathy, I could tell through communications that she is very sweet and thoughtful, making communications and our time there a breeze. And we loved snuggling with her two wonderful cats while relaxing in her home. Her house is really a treasure and we feel so lucky that she shared it with us. I recommend it to other travelers without hesitation.

Kathy's apt is exactly as advertised. Spacious, an astounding view, friendly and approachable cats (my girlfriend fell in love with them within minutes), close to dozens of Hudson Valley attractions, and overall a great place to relax. Kathy herself is very available without interfering, and the price is appropriate for all the amenities. Well worth it.

Response from Kathy:
Marcin, I'm so glad you enjoyed the apartment and the area. It's such a joy to have folks really take advantage of the views, the river breeze, the front and back porch, the kitchen and the feline affection that all come with the space. I do hope you and Christina will come back to visit, you were terrific guests and are certainly welcome any time!

I've been a traveller all my life, starting at age six weeks when my family moved from one Navy base in Florida to another in Virginia.

After 14 years in New York City, I moved to the Hudson Valley. While new to Newburgh, I've been in this general area for nearly 20 years - and I love it - the natural beauty, the diversity of people, the four distinct seasons, the art/music/culture, the hiking and the proximity to New York City.

Sustainable agriculture and food justice have been both my passion and the center of my non-profit professional life for the past 25 years.

Italy and Spain are travel favorites, as is Yellowstone.

Swing dancing is a new passion and I'm lucky to have great teachers, fellow dancers and dances right here in Newburgh and throughout the Hudson Valley.

My favorite music is from the 1930s and 40s. Favorite poets include Rilke and Mary Oliver.

For fun, I garden, sing, hike, play the piano, eat good food with great friends and sip good New York wine. Now that I have Riversong, I love to sit quietly and watch the river flow while listening to the cat on my lap purr.
