Some for the fit and adventurous, others who may want to roam through the calm and stunning bamboo gardens overlooking a waterfall of coy carp ponds. There is a good restaurant in a beautiful setting open for lunch. The park can get busy , but there are some really tranquil corners and a small zoo.

The local supermarket is handy for cupboard essentials and has some fruit and vegetables, there are also the roadside fruit and veg stalls on the road to La Gaulette.

La Gaulette, Black River, Mauritius

Neighbors will greet you as you stroll through the village. This place is set in the heart of an authentic Mauritian village, all day long you will hear birds singing and the rustle of coconut trees in the wind then at night the village will spring to life. Occasionally the local musicians will get together and rehearse. There are several churches on the street where worshipers sing enthusiastically and the preacher can be heard a mile away .Religion is enormously important to Mauritians and all of the churches and temples are packed to the rafters. Mauritius is a tropical , green and jungely environment. There are geckos , giant snails, flying ( big) cockroaches, rats ,shrews , spiders ,frogs and mosquitoes. But nothing is dangerous or poisonous (no malaria) We won't kill anything ! But there is a can of bug spray in every apartment , feel free to use it.
