Welcome to my place at Cosmopolis Oktogon! Our building can be regarded as a corner stone of Andrássy Ave. wich is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in 1873-74 and is almost fully renovated.
So is the apartment which has been turned into a truly cosmopolitan place offering two bedrooms for short-term rental. There is a nice bathroom, a shower, a toilet, a cozy kitchen and dining area for common use.

The space
It is very convenient to stay in this apartment as it is at the throbbing heart of Budapest in other words the Piccadilly Circus of our City.

The address of the accommodation is: Oktogon tér 3. 3rd floor./Door 8. H-1066, you'd better check it in a map and you'll see that it is really very central (not on a shitty side street).
It can be found right at the square (it has 8 sides, "oktogon" means that shape:-) Look for the building with ROLEX roof advertisement atop!

The building was built in 1873-74, the original old tenement building was nationalised after the World War 2, then privatized again around 1990 thus now almost all the apartments are freehold properties.

I myself lived in the apartment for almost 20 years and loved it!
I used to have a language studio there and my daughter was born into it so it is still very special to me!:-)

Guest access
Besides your room you are welcome to use the kitchen, the dining area and the bathrooms (one with a bathtub, another one with a shower and there are two toilets)

Other things to note
Please do not forget that the building is primarily for residential homes even if the number of businesses is growing there rapidly. Please be respectful:
-don't be noisy when going/leaving home
-don't stay outside the apartment and speak loudly
-refrain from smoking inside the building, smoke only on the street

Location

Budapest, Hungary

Oktogon Square is a fantastic starting point for all of your explorations either you wish to make them on foot or by public transport, which is amazing in Budapest.

SIGHTS:
There are a lot of things to do and see:
1) Along Andrássy Avenue (Unesco World Heritage Site)
St Steven Basilica (800m), National Opera House (400m), Liszt Ferenc Sqare with the best cafes and restaurants in Town! (150m), Liszt Ferenc Music Academy (200m), Liszt Ferenc Múzeum at Vörösmarty utca (200m), University of Fine Arts (former Museum of Fine Arts, 300m), Kodály Körönd (600m), Epreskert (where scuptorers and restorers are trained, 700m), Heroes Square (1500 m) with the Museum of Fine Arts (world-renowned collection, building presently being restored), Art Hall with a lot of temporary exhibitions.
Heroes Square is the beginning of the City Park where you can find the following places:
-Ice rink, Vajdahunyad Castle, Széchenyi Thermal Spa, great paths for walking

SHOPPING:
A lot along the Great Boulevard (Andrássy Avenue intersects Teréz Boulevard (Körút). The nearest shopping mall is WestEnd City Center next to Nyugati (Western) Railway Station.

EATING OUT:
A lot of great pleaces (Liszt Ferenc tér abounds in them), however you find a lot of restaurants along Andrássy Avenue (TGI Friday's and Planet Sushi are under our building, a bit further on you find Like Restaurant, close to the Square there are two Turkish restaurants and at the corner of Teréz körút and Aradi utca there's a very cheap (5EUR!) all you can eat place, where you can have meals from early morning till late night. International brands like McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Starbucks etc. can also be found in the neighborhood. However, I would rather advise you to sample genuine Hungarian food once you're here. Really not worth cooking, our rerstaurants are really good and the price/value ratio is excellent in Hungary.
Király utca is also very close where there are some fancy new places.

RECREATION:
City Park, Margaret Island, Liszt Ferenc Square, Hunyadi Square, Danube Lido

SIGHTSEEING BUSES:
Hop-on/Hop off services have a stop very close, please find fliers in the apartment (entrance hall, Tourist Info boxes)

MONEY EXCHANGE:
just round the corner of the building there are two places (on both sides of OTP bank) with best rates in town

First of all I love Budapest, especially the downtown area, where my place is located. The apartment I am renting now is my first apartment in which I lived for 15 years, first alone, then with my family, my daughter was born into this place, so it is really dear to me. At the beginning I even ran a language studio in it where I worked as a private English teacher. Besides teaching English (sometimes also Hungarian) I do translations and also work as a registered tour guide. My hobbies include interior design, sightseeing, hiking, jogging (my favourite place is Margaret Island, just 3 tram (4/6) stops away from the apartment) and gardening. I also enjoy socializing and cooking for friends. I used to work abroad (in London as an au pair, in the USA as a camp counselor and on cruise ships I ran activities for guests aged 3-17) and have a lot of international friends. I also enjoy travelling and have visited quite a few places. After all I can righteously say that Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are so many sights to see, so many sounds to listen to, so many remarkable events (a lot of them are free or very reasonably priced) to take part in. I would rather not recommend anything now as if I start it now you will have to read a really thick book and not a short introduction;-), just feel free to check out the sights yourself, make a plan based on your interests and enjoy yourself. If you have any questions, drop me a line or ask me in person. I do hope that by providing very centrally located accommodation for you, you will have a very good chance to get the most out of your stay as the most important sights are within walking distance. Besides the sights, you also find the best restaurants, bars, theatres, shopping malls, pubs, ruin pubs, cafes, stores (do not forget to try our cakes!) etc. in the same neighbourhood. While you are very welcome to cook in the apartment Hungarian restaurants are so cheap and Hungarian dishes are so distinctive and delicious that I would rather recommend you sampling as many local dishes such as lángos, as you can (if you need recommendations, I can definitely help out with that, you can also find some information booklets in the apartment). The apartment is meant to convey true cosmopolitan spirit: the entrance hall is called Budapest (what else??!), the two rooms which are rented temporarily are named after New York and Provance, These rooms have double beds so they are suitable for two guests. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and another one with a shower. There is a separate toilet with a basin. We and all of my friends loved the kitchen and the dining room, we partied there a lot. In spite of the central location, there is peace and quiet, so it is important that you make sure that you do not disturb those who live there permanently and please do not smoke on the corridor. The place is a perfect oasis for recreation but when you step out of the building you will love the contrast as you find yourself in a really lively city. If you enjoy walking, you can reach almost everything on foot. At the same time, public transportation is amazing in Budapest: it is cheap (buy a travel pass!) and takes you everywhere within minutes. I hope you will be enjoying your stay as fully as you can. I would love to welcome you at my place. I speak fluent English, so there are no language barriers if you can speak some English too. Hope to hear from you soon. PS. I would also like to remind you that if you need a professional tour guide for a private tailor-made walking tour (it can be as short as half an hour or as long as you wish) or if you just want to get orientated in the area, I can do it for you. Besides, I am available for mini-Hungarian courses too so if you are interested in learning something about this very fascinating language, I can provide an overview or just teach you survival Hungarian or/and one or two folk songs;-). Send me an e-mail for private arrangements if you are interested in booking any of these additional services. Now it is really time to say goodbye: I wish you safe travel, a good number of pleasant experiences, fantastic memories of our gorgeous city and a lot to write home about. See you soon!
