Gorgeous second-floor private bedroom/bath in boutique condo. Capitol Hill East is a transitional neighborhood. Garden view from two big south-facing windows that look out over; first a freeway and then the beautiful Anacostia River. Comfortable queen bed and recliner chair, lighted ceiling fan, streaming TV, WiFi, secretary desk, full bath & shower, semi-private entrance. 3 blocks to metro, minutes to Capitol, Mall, Smithsonian, Eastern Market. Bike shares close by. Occasional street noise.

The space
You will love the convenience and modern comforts of the space. It's on the second floor of a razed and renovated, three-story building. The neighbours are courteous, professional people. The apartment interior is modern and elegant yet very comfortable. My cat, Cheerio, is friendly and soft (and actually likes to be held!). You have access to the kitchen and state-of-the art appliances, the laundry room which is conveniently tucked away in a large closet next to the kitchen, and to the heat and air controls. You can eat meals and relax in the living room area, watch TV (w/several streaming options) on the mounted screen, or in your bedroom on the 26" screen. You have free access to high-speed internet and the code is posted in your bedroom.
When I'm home, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have and to assist you in every way possible to make your stay in DC, inside and outside of the home, as pleasant as possible. The neighbourhood can sometimes be rough around the edges, especially late nights, but it's location to the sights is amazing. I have professional ties in the world of international journalism and music so I can be helpful with tips on entertainment as well.
I speak fluent French in addition to my native English and have great experience traveling internationally. I understand what it's like to travel on business and for pleasure so you will find that the space I've created for you fits your needs perfectly.

Guest access
You will have access to the front entrance door and the front interior door which is on the second floor #201. Once inside the apartment you have access to your bedroom, walk-in closet, and bathroom. You can also enjoy the living room and kitchen space. For short term guests feel free to use the microwave, toaster, refrigerator, tea and coffee pot and dishes. In some cases you may enjoy full use of the kitchen, but that will have to be arranged between us on a case-to-case basis.

Other things to note
Cheerio my cat really enjoys occupying all of the rooms! The two bedrooms on each end of the condo are the sole sources of natural light too as the kitchen/living room has no windows. So I prefer that you leave your door open a crack when you leave, if possible, so that Cheerio has access to the windows. If not, no big deal either. I leave that final decision up to you.
Also please note that there is a deadbolt on your door. The key is in the little silver dish on the desk in your bedroom. Feel free to lock it if need be. Do not however lock the door handle to your room and pull it shut behind you. That will cause all kinds of trouble since there is no key to unlock that. An extra set of keys to the back door are also in that silver dish in case of an emergency and you have to exit out the back door. That door is located at the other end of the apartment by my bedroom suite. It leads outside to the parking area and you can open the automatic garage door manually to access the street (an alley between L and K streets).
I have a guest book with information about the city and the house. Take a look at it as you might find it very useful. I have an informal comment notepad in there too which is a good place for you to leave me comments that you may not want to put in the on-line review.

The neighborhood is in the southeast section of Capitol Hill. The Hill East neighborhood is very eclectic with people of diverse economic backgrounds. We have a large group of long-term residents, many of whom are working and middle class African Americans. We also have a subsidized apartment complex directly next door (on the west side) that houses a number of low-income folks. On all other sides and throughout the neighorhood we have many newish arrivals, professionals like me who are employed by the federal government, Congress or nonprofit organizations. The neighborhood is transforming every day. New condos and row houses popping up, old ones getting renovated. It is very exciting. Think of this neighborhood as the Harlem of DC.
Like most big city neighborhoods that are in the middle stages of change, its also important to stay alert and aware of your surroundings. 4 blocks away on K street is my favorite gym. Walk-ins are welcome. Next to the metro which is 2 1/2 blocks away is a Harris Teeter, a Subway, Buff Nail Salon, an AT&T store, and a Wells Fargo automated teller. Walking down Pennsylvania between 14th and 15th streets (still about 2 1/2 blocks from my house) you'll find a pizza joint, a Chinese restaurant, a tattoo parlor, two bars Trusty's and Wisdom (I love both but if you want to eat, I suggest Trusty's), a wine and liquor store, and other spots to explore. The next metro stop toward the Capitol is Eastern Market which is bustling on the weekends due to the fun outdoor market, but also every night because of its awesome strip of great restaurants and shops.

I am a professional woman and international public figure in the world of music radio and TV journalism. I speak French and one African language, I sing jazz, and love to travel. I love what I do and I exercise and perform often so am usually happy. I respect privacy but also embrace community. Oh - and I love horses, surfing, and my cat Cheerio. I cannot live without food, water, and love. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer so I know how to be happy with very little material things. As your host, I will be helpful, courteous, and honest. I will provide you with a clean and elegant space and will gladly offer you help when you want it and respectfully leave you to your own devices if that is what you prefer. You will be able to count on me at all times. When I travel, I like to be in a clean, neat, and beautiful place. I like to set everything up the way I want in my bathroom and bedroom. My place allows you to the same, nice conditions. I don't have a life motto. I have a job that I love and I live in one of the best cities in the world. Life is good. Work hard. Do good.

During your stay
If I'm not at home and you need me, you can text me or call at any time on my mobile number and I'll get back to you within the hour.
I am an outgoing and open person so interacting with guests is easy and fun for me. I like to watch the news on TV a little bit before and after work when I'm having breakfast/dinner, and sometimes I watch my favorite Netflix/Hulu shows after work so you might catch me then in the kitchen/living room for chatting or information or news. I respect privacy too, and understand when work mode takes priority, so whatever style you prefer during your stay, I am fine with. I follow a routine 40-hour work week schedule and stay busy on weekends as well so you will sometimes have the place to yourselves. Basically my interaction with guests is professional yet relaxed.
When I travel on occasion, you might have the place to yourselves or share it with another Airbnb guest occupying my master bedroom suite. I will notify you if that situation arises. For long-term trips (more than 2-3 days) someone reliable and friendly will manage the house.
