All about Ibiza

Luxury Retreats, an Expert in Ibiza vacations

Situated approximately 100 miles off Spain’s eastern coast, Ibiza is smaller than Majorca and Menorca, its neighboring Balearic Islands, but its outsize reputation as one of the world’s biggest party destination precedes it. However, there is much more to the White Isle than nightclubs, not least some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches, the charms of historic Ibiza Town and a laid-back, bohemian vibe which is hard to find elsewhere. The northern coast of the island is the quietest, with craggy coves, deserted beaches shaded by pine trees and crystal clear waters it is easy to escape the crowds and find a little slice of paradise.

Ibiza is busiest during the warm summer months, from late May to early October, but the island is particularly beautiful in early spring when the almond trees are blossoming. The island is easily reached, with flights into Ibiza International Airport from cities throughout Europe. There are also ferries from the cities of Valencia, and Barcelona on the Spanish mainland, and from Palma on the nearby island of Majorca.

Watch the sunset from one of the island’s many bars

Ibiza is famous for its sunsets, and how what better way to watch day turn into night than with a glass of wine or a cocktail at one of the island’s stylish cafes or bars. Located on the notorious San Antonio strip, Cafe Mambo offers a taste of the island’s nightlife scene. Founded in 1994, it attracts some of the world’s most famous DJs, as well as a diverse crowd made up of people of all ages who come to enjoy the buzzy atmosphere. Another favorite spot is Cala Conta, where the Sunset Ashram beach bar hosts live bands who play as the skies turn shades of amber and scarlet. For a more spiritual experience, head to Cala d’Hort with its fabulous views of Es Vedra – a small, uninhabited rocky island which is believed to give off a mystical energy.

Dive into the Mediterranean

As you might expect for a Mediterranean island with so many fantastic beaches, Ibiza is an excellent spot for scuba diving. With clear, warm water, the conditions here are ideal for amateurs and more experienced divers alike, and the area is home to submerged shipwrecks, underwater caves and grassy seabeds, which play host to all sorts of fantastic wildlife. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a whale or a school of dolphins. If you’re feeling less adventurous, you can always pick up a snorkel and explore one of the island’s many coves, or rent a boat and see the shoreline in style.
