All about Halifax
The provincial capital of Nova Scotia, Halifax is noted for its maritime history, blend of architectural styles โ the glass of Halifax Central Library sits comfortably alongside 19th-century buildings such as the Old Town Clock โ and as a convenient jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding areaโs natural beauty. Home to one of the largest ice-free harbors in the world, Halifax became one of the most prolific commercial ports on the eastern seaboard. Today, a stroll along the downtown waterfront takes in heritage vessels, sailboats, and tugboats still zigzagging around the harbor.
The Atlantic port city is also known for its universities, thriving arts scene, and bohemian neighborhoods. Thereโs classic and cutting-edge art to admire, while historical walking tours can lead you through the cityโs past, and the North End is home to a host of buzzing craft breweries. Halifax performs a careful balancing act, both a business hub and a center for the arts, brimming with modernity and dripping with history.
