What you'll do

On this tour of Montreal's downtown, we will explore what used to be the Red Light’s district. I'm inviting you to revisit the naughty part of our city’s history. We will look into the crimes scene and the sex work of Montreal from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. The short itinerary will make us pass thru the Chinatown and the entertainment’s district of Montreal, mainly on St-Laurent street and Ste-Catherine street. We will discuss about the impact of the prohibition on our city that led Montreal to be known as the Sin City of the North or the Paris of North America. Among different adult subjects, we will discuss about the drug trade, the gambling industry, sex work, brothel activities and the famous criminals of Montreal. We will also talk about the different morality squads that fought crimes and corruptions that led to the late closing of the Red Light district. We will also observe the transformation that occurred in the entertainment’s district, a still vibrant part of our beloved city.

As a born and raised Montrealer and I'm deeply passionate about my home town. I work in the tourist industry since 2009, I'm a tour director since 2010 and now a certified Montréal tour guide since 2017. On top of my tourism studies, I studied cinema, education, politics and I have a bachelor degree in communication. Since I love to travel myself and I have multiple experiences overseas, I try as hard as I can to recreate this backpacker meeting experiences in my tours. I hope I can be this friendly Montrealer that give you a global sense of what my city is all about!

Super fun topic to learn about when it's not a widely publicized topic! He did a really thoughtful job of laying out the storytelling as you walked around the city.

I had a great time on the tour. The history of Montreal's red light distinct is something I was interested in, and Nicolas did a great job of structuring that history and relating it to what's current

Nicolas was a great guide! My husband and I love taking "true crime/darker side of" tours and the topic of the Montreal red light district was facinating. Would recommend to anyone looking to learn more than the "standard city tour"
