What you'll do

As a tourist, you're usually looking for the walk that offers you the fullest experience while simultaneously being time and cost-effective.
I designed this as a walk to standout and take you through all the old and saturated buildings that make up the city's downtown landmarks and be honest and educated about them, showing you the two sides of the coin: the “grand narrative” and the not-so-pleasant-info that is frequently left out because it has no place in it.
This walk is everything in between the heavyweight history book and the lifeless compact guidebook — with a sense of humour.

Born and raised in the city; have lived here for the longest part of my life. The food is great, the weather is priceless but growing up I only cared about finding the best way to go around it. I believe this is what got me into majoring in Art & Architecture History and why I might be just the right person for this walk, aside from my sense of humour. But that's just my guess. Where you'll be

Every country has a unique history and its buildings have a very particular way of letting it be known, but you won’t spot it unless someone points it out to you. Portugal is no different and I (like to) believe that all of it will be brought up during this walk — from the golden age to the dark times; past to present; history and architecture but also pop culture. This is the closest you'll ever be to a live-action version of a Wikipedia page.

It was such a wonderful tour ! Ell is a great story teller. He made us travel the time through religious, political, geographical and architectural aspects of Faro. He also add a touch of humor which makes the tour really entertaining. We learnt a lot, had fun and also had a list of good places to eat during our stay. Highly recommend ! Many thanks Ell !

At 30 minutes drive from Quarteira (where we stayed) is Faro, we chose to take a tour with a guide I have been communicating with since late 2019 during that long Covid year Eli & and I have built a great friendship. Eli is so knowledgeable of the History of Faro and Portugal, it is really amazing, the good, the bad and all the rest. The tour was to last 90 min lasted over 3 hrs 😁😀 Eli's English is so perfect that he answered so clearly all of our questions,(we had a lot) including why they were so many Huge Nests (over few hundred pounds) of the Storks that instead of migrating every year made their home in Faro permanently. He explained in detail the culture, the true side of the history that is rarely discussed (i.e discrimination, slavery & more) a true eye opener, architecture and how Portugal actually became Portugal but also the difference in social classes, how someone is known to be rich just because of their name. We both would recommend Eli's experience to ANYONE visiting the Algarve, He is truly a Super Guide and extremely caring about his guests. ***** is a Star *****

If you are intrested in historical stories, I would recommend this activity to you. He is a knowledgable, friendly leader who can help you to get more familiar to the place. Moreover, I find him a supportive person if you need extra help for finding good restaurant and transport system.

We would highly recommend Ell's culture walk through Faro! Myself, husband and 18 year old son enjoyed the experience and came away with a much deeper understanding of the architecture and history of the Algarve region and Portugal in general. We are now noticing different architectural details as we journey through the area on our own and have an idea of the political/historical reasons for certain details of buildings. Ell also gave us several recommendations for restaurants in Faro and Olhao. We are excited to try some of the places. We also learned about Portuguese culture and some of the upcoming holiday traditions. Ell is friendly, enthusiastic and goes out of his way to answer all questions and give recommendations. He also brought us yummy Portuguese pastries to snack on. And pointed us to the best churros in the Algarve which were incredibly delicious! Thank you for a memorable experience, Ell!
