What you'll do

** We provide a corona safe tour. Small number of passengers. Captain wears face mask and will keep his distance **
You probably know about the famous Amsterdam canals, the Herengracht and the Keizersgracht. This is where in the Dutch Golden Age the rich merchants lived. But there were also people that served in the 'palaces' at the Herengracht, worked in one of the hundred or more mills that ground corn, sugar and coffee or that built the ships that sailed to the West and East Indies.
During the tour you will see a lot of the touristic highlights of our beautiful city like the houses of the rich merchants on the Herengracht, the seven bridges of the Reguliersgracht and the Anne Frank house on the Prinsengracht. But we also head for the Jordaan, the former working class district and pass along the famous Amsterdam house boats.
Meanwhile your guide will tell you everything about the architecture of the houses, low and high life in the 17th and 18th century, the poverty of the industrial revolution and the 'Jordaan rebellion' of 1934. During the tour we will serve traditional Dutch stroopwafels.

Your guide will speak English, but also, depending on the guests, French and/or German (and of course Dutch). If you want a private tour or this tour on a different boat: send a message to Freek (info@boatnow.com

I am Freek, the organizer of this tour. Hans is the co-host. He has an MA in history, has developed this tour and will be your guide most of the times. Your guide will be in any case an experienced 'Amsterdammer' who knows all about Amsterdams' history and who likes to show you not only the most famous spots of Amsterdam but also some of the parts of the city center that are less known to tourists. Our transport is as it should be in Amsterdam: we go by boat, the beautiful Sarah (see pictures).

Where you'll be

We will start at the Kloveniersburgwal. Then we head for the Amstel river and the Herengracht and make a left turn to the Prinsengracht where we will pass the Anne Frank house. From there we will go to the Jordaan -the old working class district-. From the Jordaan we get back to the Prinsengracht and the Amstel river. Drop off will be at the Town hall (Stopera) or Kloveniers.

Very good tour! We were only 2 on the tour (my girlfriend and me) so it was very unique for us. Not sure it's like that every time but it was great. Our host made us feel very confortable and we learnt a lot about the city. We really enjoyed the visit. At the end of the tour at noon, we were going to search for something to eat so our captain even dropped us near Rembrandtplein where you can find a lot of good restaurants. Definitely worth the few additionnal euros compared to the tours you can find in the streets. I recommend!

L’expérience en bateau était correct. Dommage pour le temps. Hans, notre capitaine parlait Français. Nous aurions aimé plus d’infos sur la ville, son histoire.

This has been my favorite experience thus far on Airbnb ! Captain Hans went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable and safe. We were the first post-corona cruise and would highly recommend this tour now! The captain new the ins and outs of the history of the canals and he personalized our tour based on where we were staying so we could see more. The boat we took, the Sarah, was so beautiful and comfy! We would do this again if in Amsterdam. Thank you!

Wonderful tour by Hans on his boat. It was an intimate experience (and I would imagine much better than doing a bigger boat tour as you get to chat to each other and ask lots of questions). Would really recommend choosing this experience for a lovely trip round the canals!

We booked this tour at the very last minute on a rainy winter day and Freek was quick to reply and set up a link to pay so we could have the tour that afternoon. We met Hans and the boat, Sarah, in the centre and our group of four enjoyed a private tour of the beautiful canals. We were offered some soft drinks and stroopwafel and Hans explained the history of the area and the architecture. A highlight for us was seeing the amazing houseboats permanently moored on the residential canals - really unique! I would definitely recommend this experience to other friends and travellers for its good value and relaxed and homey atmosphere.
