What you'll do

Covid-19 measures: All workshops for 2020 will be private. This means that we will accept only one group booking per workshop. (1-4 people)

We will start by learning the basics of the tools and materials that we are going to use. Aprons are provided and students sit on up to four individual potter's wheels. We then prepare our clay and our wheels in order to begin the making. We walk through the whole making process step by step focusing on the details of each technique required to successfully place and form the clay. Once we learn the basic techniques we move on to simple design ideas that we can apply to our pieces. Once we are done, we discuss the basics of glazing and firing the pots. Students also have the opportunity to let us fire and glaze the pots. Pots are shipped by post or if given the appropriate time (which depends mainly on the weather) can be picked up within about 7 days.

A 32 year-old professional potter with a small local business "Cretan Spiral Pottery". I have 9 years of throwing and glazing experience and 6 years of sharing my knowledge with guests in my family's olive farm. I was taught by a third generation Cretan potter. I can guide you and your hands into making your first ceramic pots, following the traditional throwing techniques of Crete. Your pots can also be fired, glazed and shipped directly to your home.

Where you'll be

We will conduct the pottery workshop in my family's olive farm which is located by the sea on the outskirts of the city of Agios Nikolaos. The workshops are held mainly indoors, in an enclosed studio with a small balcony overlooking the sea.

Costas realy knows what he is doing. He speaks perfect English and shows you a lot of details and deep insights in the art of pottery. The place is very unique and with a lot of history, and we felt very welcome by the family. I will be back to glaze our work, bake it again and bring it back to germany.

An amazing experience that I’d recommend to all. Costas is a wonderful tutor - we covered a lot more than I expected and had lots of fun. He was patient and helpful and the class was small so there was lots of time and attention. We each made a plate, bowl and cup and we opted to have Costas glaze and post to us. The wider farm and shop was very picturesque and we could have spent much longer there. We thought the class was very good value for money and would love to attend another back home, so was a good introduction/taster.

Very special experience. Costas took a great care with all participants to explain, guide us and assist us so we can create our own pieces. I was delighted to create a bowl, plate and a cup. You can also let Costas glaze your pieces and ship them to your home for a very reasonable price... The whole experience was a lot of fun, and the farm is absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended..
