What we’ll do

This 1 hour 30 minutes history journey will start at the Cultural Village Museum in Saldanha on Hoedjieskop. We will enjoy a slow walk through the town to visit various historical buildings. We will visit the old Saldanha Hotel build in the early 1900's which today still belongs to the Silverman Family and how the Silverman brothers started one of the biggest fish factories on the West Coast. …

The walk will be easy and less than two kilometers long. It's mostly flat and it will take one to two hours, depending on how long we visit each area. We will walk at the pace of the slowest walker.

Wear comfortable clothes with a warm top, a hat and walking shoes.

Where you'll be

The history and the area with the remaining old fishermens' houses and the wooden structures where the workers who worked at the Saldanha Bay Canning Factory lived is very special. Here, you will relive history and the early years of the fishing industry while you overlook the town—and especially, the canning factory from Hoedjieskop.
