What you'll do

Open a hive and discover how honeybees are organized

We will get suited up in protective gear and you'll learn about the art of beekeeping.

We will explore the wonderful world of the honeybees by snooping into real active beehives, handling the frames and introducing ourselves to "Her Majesty the Queen Bee".

There will be plenty of opportunity to see how bees communicate by doing the waggle dance and witnessing the birth of a new worker bee. You will learn about the different stages of bee life, from egg to larvae, to nurse bees and foragers and their roles within the colony and in pollinating plants.

Bees or the Maremma? How can we say what fascinated us most?
My wife Ale and I moved from Padova, in the north-east of Italy, to Tuscany in 2000.
We worked for 4 years on a beekeeping farm, where we learned how to approach this complex and wonderful activity.
Finally we decided to set up on our own, so we bought 10 hectars of land and we planted an organic olive grove and built a wooden house.
Now we are professional beekeepers and we have 400 hives.
Our honey highlights these unique nectars of this beautiful landscape.

A unique experience I would warmly recommend to every nature passionate person. We spent several hours getting to know the life of a beekeeper from Alessandra and Piero who are both very dedicated to the job of beekeeping and have remarkable knowledge and experience which they are more then happy to share with a great deal of patience and humor. We were able to get close to bees in their Beehives, learn about their social structure, find out about the different produce of bees and the challenges that Beekeepers are facing. I am very lucky to have had this special experience. Thank you Alessandra and Piero!
