What you'll do

You will be greeted with fresh coffee and tea from our cafe Living Pretty and a breakfast of your choice. I will talk a little bit about the amazing local producers we have in the area. If you are in Somerset to find some beautiful walks then perhaps making a picnic would be a fun experience for some... We will use some amazing locally sourced ingredients to make your picnic or lunch. I will teach you how to make a loaf of artisan bread using locally stoneground flour. We will make some of my famous scotch eggs and tomato chilli jam. We will make a savoury pastry and turn it into a delicious tart / quiche using local unpasteurised cheeses and eggs. We will make some sticky toffee apple buns, a Somerset apple cake, perhaps a few other treats which you may / may not have come across in your culinary journey. If you aren’t a walker and want to learn some different techniques / skills I can tailor make a culinary experience to your taste. We will finish this cooking experience with a tour of our beautifully restored and decorated pub, The Firehouse Somerset. You might want to stop for a pizza and pint of local ale or cider. A great way to end a day in Miranda’s Kitchen!

Miranda

I grew up in Somerset, surrounded by amazing local producers and ingredients. I am a published cook book author. I have travelled and cooked around the world for 20 years. I am a passionate self-taught chef. I helped set up the kitchen at The Firehouse Somerset, including the installation of a pizza oven. I trained the junior chefs, created the menus and worked in the kitchen for 2 years. I am an artisan baker and patisserie chef. I have set up a cookery school using live Rayburn and Esse Range Cookers in the showroom. My classes range from bread baking, pasta and pastry making, vegetarian food, picnic food, curries and more, using fresh and locally sourced, seasonal ingredients we have in abundance in Somerset.

Where you'll be

You will get to sample the delights of Living Pretty Cafe housed in the old bakery. You can wander across to the beautifully restored village pub which was originally an old Forge for local farriers and blacksmiths. Taste the local cider and ale.
