What you'll do

Capture Camden's landmarks in a hands-on photo workshop

London is a photographer’s dream—a diverse and interesting social and cultural landscape with historic buildings, gritty urban areas, the perpetual motion of its population, and the calm of its parks and gardens. Working in partnership with the creative photography organization, Lomography, I'm offering this workshop as an experience for the whole family because I think it's a cool way for kids and their parents to explore London photography and iconic spots together. I'll issue a camera to each child and adult and instruct you on how to use it. Don’t worry it’s surprisingly simple. You will be able to explore double exposures, light filters, and more as you learn how to use the Lomography cameras to create your very own artistic photos. This experience makes the city fun and enjoyable for kids, and the magic will happen when your child’s imagination finds inspiration in surprising places. I recommend it for children aged six and older to use the cameras. However, children of all ages are welcome to attend with their parents. All participants will receive a digital set of prints.

I was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia. After coming to London for what was supposed to be two years, I fell in love with the city's vibrancy and buzz—there is always something happening and something new and different to do. I've worked in London as an early years teacher, and internationally, as a governess and nanny. I hold a bachelor’s degree in education and have studied pediatric first aid. I'm currently completing my master's degree in child studies.

Where you'll be

We'll start at Chalk Farm underground station and Camden Town's iconic Roundhouse. We'll make our way toward Regent's Park with its amazing gardens and large green spaces. We'll then head north into Camden Town, which was once the home of rock stars and the punk subculture, and then travel down London's evolving Regent's Canal toward King's Cross.

Tour was very interesting - learning about the history of Camden and seeing the market and the canal. Cara was very patient with the kids and the photography and camera activity made it extra-interesting for everyone. Great family activity!

This was a lovely walk through Camden and Camden Market! Cara knows the area inside out and compentently expained us the old and younger history of Camden and it‘s musical relevance. She showed us some hidden areas, which we could capture with the provided fish eye cameras. Great experience also for kids! Many thanks Cara!!
